Hi all,
I decided to get the Edge s7, I'm coming from Note4 and gave owned Galaxy 1-4 in all of those phones I can change the font size to make it larger as I need larger text but I went to BestBuy to check out the S7/Edge (mine is on order) and to my surprise this was not where to be found, the Samsung rep could not do it on her S6 either. Now this is a bummer for me, the current text is too small for me as my vision is getting worse so I always changed it to 125-150%, I know there is reader mode but not all websites will have that option .
So my question is has anyone figured a way to change the size of text on the browser? Is there a repository for apps where we can get older versions maybe , would not mind getting the Note4 bersion for example. Wished HTC would make their browser available is the only one that did Text-wraping effectively .
Thanks

Maybe because of the adblock for the Samsung browser?

Could always install AdGuard for ads and then use Chrome.
I've been looking for this as well!

I like using the Samsung Browser for the fingerprint sign ins. The font size thing sucks.
I like Chrome, I think he has better performance. But it uses more battery. A lot more. I do not understand how not to implement basic and necessary things .
Look this:
Text in Chrome - Font Size: Max 200%
Note that the maximum size of the text gets to be smaller than the Status Bar. An absurd.

Text in Uc Browser - Pinch to Zoom with Auto Adjust text
Definitely, if you (like me) need more access to reading, the best choice is UC Browser.
Soo frustrating indeed. Because of this I just can not use the samsung browser. It is unusable as it is.. very surprised samsung released this thing..

Maybe laziness of developers.
Pinch to zoom with auto-adjust should be mandatory in any decent browser. But Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc. They were not able to implement it. I do not know if there is another option, but - in my tests - only UC Browser thought about it.
This is a major drawback, its just unbelievable that you can't make the text size bigger in the Samsung stock browser.

Finally yesterday I received an Update from Samsung addressing Text Size problem in the stock browser,I received it through the google play, you can change it at:
Settings>advanced>text size.!!.
Those who didn't receive the update, you can check it out manually at Google play >Samsung Internet For Android.

Not sure if you got your answer, but I see it in Settings>Advanced>Web page text size
Related
1) The browser doesn't have a way to force desktop versions of sites. Even with about:debug some sites will not allow it to view the desktop versions. This renders flash useless for me because the reason I wanted flash so bad was because I wanted to watch the Daily Show on my phone. And that website doesn't fall for about:debug while hulu does.
2) can't stand the one blink per 15 seconds notification light rate. (i know this will be remedied soon by some app)
3) can't install HTC_ime keyboard (im sure this will be fixed soon)
4) no pinch to zoom on mobile websites.
5) protected apps like documents to go are not working right. I paid good money for that app and I need it to work. I don't need just a document viewer but an editor. I'm sure that will be fixed soon but its not fun having an app that you paid 15 bucks for not working.
6) the very nice text selection method in the desire port.
7) Sense UI and all the great HTC widgets of course but I can't really fault Froyo for that.
I'll wait for Paul's next desire port with Froyo's additions. Until then I'll stick with r22 of the desire port.
try rotating the phone and then refreshing the page to make it load as desktop view..it worked for me
HTC Sense Keyboard is already working (except the voice to text bit).
Well I just moved from r22 to froyo and I think i will stick to froyo. I really miss the nice large contact photo's, favorites widget and a few other sense stuff, but FLASH 10.1 is a dealbreaker for me. My own website finally looks great on the phone, made it using Flash ofcourse.
my car charger stopped working when i updated to froyo.
i did a nandroid restore to my CM 5.0.6 and it worked just fine.
i dont understand...haha.
Um... I had NO problem watching Daily Show on CC's website. I'm stock.
You just go to the bottom of the "mobile" page and click on "desktop" page, then scroll down the left side and click on full episode under Daily Show.

That's one way to do it... but it's totally not necessary on CC's site... at least not to watch Daily Show or the Colbert Report. I tested both earlier and no problem. You just need to select the full desktop site from the bottom of the mobile page because the links to those shows doesn't show up on the mobile version.

Yup. The only site I know of requiring that is Hulu.
I'm happy to be corrected and note the corrections, no need to say "owning" and all that..
Anyways, when I did the UAS string fix and went to comedy central, and yes I went to the bottom of the screen to click dektop site or whatever, it worked but it still told me I needed to download flash player even though I already had it and it worked on other sites like dailymotion, and hulu. Maybe I need to try the rotate the screen idea, and I'll be glad if that works. That's good news if it does.
Pinch to zoom on mobile sites like m.facebook.com was helpful, it didn't zoom the whole thing, just made the font bigger, while keeping the same column format. It was useful to me. If it works in this then that's great.
And if the HTC_IME keyboard is having problems with voice to text input, then it's not fully working. I use that feature and find it very handy.
I still feel the text selection method is important as I am often copying and pasting stuff between emails and browser and chats. Its very nicely implemented in the desire port.
And yes I did reinstall docs 2 go multiple times. I know it will be fixed soon if not already, it was just a pain in the ass to first not see any of the apps I have downloaded in my "Downloads" on the market, and then to not have my most expensive app not work right.
And I love the native widgets of the sense UI.
I'm glad to hear that the flash is working and the keyboard are working, this is good news. I still feel that until there is a desire port with froyo capability, I'll wait.
If you need to either documents. You should get a winmo phone. Its why all of mine were winmo before.
But I rarely edited docs.
I went back to 2.1 (Cy's latest 5.0.8) because of:
- speed is really not all that different - at least not in the apps i'm running and the way the unit operates.
- battery life is a bit better
- trackball wake up - c'mon froyo....
- latest 720p video
- picture resize - they are locked in 1.2 mb in froyo...and I can get them as small as 130kb in 2.1
- always liked Cy's roms, anyway. WAiting for his froyo, I'm sure all tweaks will have been worked out - soon
Hey,
I've had my Unlocked European HTC Hero since the first week it was released. Even though there was quite a delay in the release of 2.1 (non rooted), I'm pretty happy. Some interesting things:
1) I received the OTA notification at a time when I did not want to update so I chose to "update later." In order to force the update later, I set the clock forward as people suggested. That worked just fine and the phone updated no problem. However, the time was set back to 1980. It was at that point I noticed the Market wasn't working. Once I set the clock back to real time, it did work. Just a note in case you did that.
2) I was actually surprised that almost everything was retained during the upgrade. I have previously flashed with some of the 1.5 Roms (official only) and it always wiped out everything. Even all my apps remained installed, though quite a few needed updates
3) FINALLY the compass works in Google Maps. When the Hero first came out everyone complained that the iPhone compass worked (with Gmaps) but not on Android. I must have missed the announcement that it was now working on Android and what an awesome surprise.
4) FINALLY we have Google search by voice. I love it. However, I understand that you are supposed to be able to use voice as input for any text box (composing email, sms, etc). How do you do that? There is no microphone button available. Do I need an app?
5) Google navigation works like a charm although it seems a bit laggy. Sometimes I have already turned before the map moves. Still - very slick. One question: Where is Car Home?
6) I though there was supposed to be a nifty new 3D Gallery like Cool Iris. Where is that?
7) Voice Search is al little strange to me. The window with results is not really a browser. When you click on a result, it opens in a new window, which is nice. But , how do you get back to the search results? It is not one of the open windows?
All in all, pretty cool stuff.
5)car home is an AOSP thing, so it is not available on sense roms. instead you get an app called "navigator" which is similar.
6) Gallery 3d is also AOSP, and not in htc sense roms. It is however in pretty much all custom sense roms, such as villain 12.
I used the goldcard image to downgrade my tmobile and now have upgraded to official 2.1 rom. I have to say i'm quite underwhelmed with the upgrade. Google navigation is nice but does lag a little. I have to admit my hero does not appear much snappier than when it was running 1.5. On the plus side I don't have to see the annoying tmobile logo when the phone boots up.
CyberWalrus,
I'm not sure I understand AOSP? You mean it is a choice to not include those features?
You mentioned an app called "Navigator." I don't see that anywhere.

stock, unmodified, pure android. The one that the nexus one, the G1, and the magic run. Gallery and Car home are features of AOSP android
HTC roms have HTC sense android. they dont have gallery 3d because htc presumably thinks its own "photos" app is better.
I am running villain 12, rather than the stock htc rom, so I have gallery 3d ported over anyway.
But the navigator app may be from the desire, and therefore only available on custom roms.

AFAIK you can choose it as a keyboard type.
settings -> locale&text -> Touch Input -> keyboard types
But I think there is a button on the keyboard, which is to change settings. You could use that to change keyboard type.
But none of the keyboard types are "voice" or anything like that.

I seem to remember that was one of the things that HTC were leaving out of their roms. Not sure if anyone on 2.1 on any htc handsets has it.
There may be an apk kicking around for it , but again, this is from a distant memory since it wasn't relevant for me as 2.anything was a distant dream for me at the time.

You people looking for voice input in every textbox, you can install the HTC_IME Mod for that, it has the voice input button.
I'm also looking for the Navigation app, can't find it anywhere... Suggestions?

PLEASE READ THIS FULL POST BEFORE INSTALLING!
Beta Version updated 2/16. Build 7
This is our 7th beta build of Handcent 4.0 and we're releasing it to the public. Because of the nature of BETA we expect you to be able to install an application manually without using the market.
Remember, Handcent is a free application, so we don't have a fancy, outsourced, technical support team to assist you with Android OS tech support such as installing applications outside of the APP market. If someone wants to link me a tutorial for this, I'll post it in this first post.
This will replace and upgrade your current version of Handcent 3.9.x. It does not install a second copy. You can easily revert back to an older version if you experience catastrophic issues by redownloading from the Android marketplace.
HELP US FIND BUGS! If you think you found something, but you aren't sure, see if myself or someone else can replicate it in this forum before submitting a bug report.
Thanks for your patience! Don't forget the THANKS button here, and show your support by removing ads in Handcent by purchasing a subscription or contribution membership.
New to XDA? The install file is attached to this post.
New Features
Handcent Talk - Allows you to bind your phone number and send text messages for free using the Handcent network.
Greater customization (particularly with widgets and the pop-up window but not everything is implemented yet)
Improved compatibility with iOS messaging from iPhones (iOS compatible group messaging planned)
Full ICS Support
Features under Development
iPhone iMessaging compatible GROUP MESSAGE support
Skinnable POPUP notification
Greater detailed ICS Notification features
SMS/MMS/Settings Backup to SD CARD feature (Which won't require subscription like the online backup service!)
Confirmed Issues
Some modded users may experience theme compatibility issues when using themes of white text on dark backgrounds.
Thanks for this! Can this be installed over the current stable version with no issue?
Edit: could you also please provide some sort of changelog so us beta testers can test/verify all the new things?
Yes. It will replace the current version. And this version is quite stable. We don't expect many issues to come up.
Only issue I can see so far is that it doesn't like dark menus as the text is black and doesn't pull thebcilor.from the android system

Hmm, is there a way to change the new top action bar? Or do we have to wait for the skins to be updated? Right now it is a light blue that doesn't fit with the Darkness theme I'm using... Or am I being mindgamed and it was always this blue?
Also, I have a suggestion for one option regarding some wasted screen space. Going to "Settings > Custom style > Bubble settings > Enable text counter" lets us enable or disable the text counter. This text counter shows under the text editor.
When the text counter is disabled, the text counter is gone, but the vertical space is still taken up by the blank space. See screenshot below for what I mean.

It would be nice if disabling the text counter would collapse the previously reserved space.
I can suggest collapsing the text counter field when it's not being used, but yeah, we are aware that there may be SOME skinning issues and we will be addressing those as best as we can prior to the public release.

I see. I'll be bringing this up with development as we are aware that many Handcent users are also advanced users who root their devices and install third-party ROMs. I'm one of them, myself. However, with Cyanogen largely unavailable to DX2 users, this isn't something I get the luxury of testing.

I will be more then willing to help in this. I am pretty sure I can make a few simple changes so the color codes call the ones from the stock android framework. It would go along way to reduce the fragmentation issues we all see with how apps look if they used the built in color codes instead of defining their own. If I can be of any help please feel free to let me know.

I thought we were finally going to get group mms compatibility with iOS? I can't find any option to enable this and it's not working natively.
If this was not added, what does "Improved compatibility with iOS messaging from iPhones" actually mean?
It's frustrating being left out of the loop because my friends on iphones like using iOS group messaging to communicate.

Good to know it's coming. If you guys are first to the market with this feature, you will make a lot of android users with iPhone using buddies very happy.
Is there/will there be an option to turn off the new 3 home screens? I appreciate you want to highlight the Handcent services and talk, but is a little annoying to accidentally change the screen when scrolling the conversation list.
The rest all looks good, much prefer the new 'unknown' contact avatar to the previous.

I find fonts are too big all over the Note, in particular on the Samsung email app and S-planner. They haven't really been optimised to make use of the Note's HD screen.
For instance the S-planner, in many calendar entries, only allows 7-8 characters per diary entry showing on screen at once, so words are cut off most of the time.
Even if you change the font settings to "tiny" in app settings, it makes little if any difference and a lot of headings fonts don't change at all.
On a more positive note, Internet surfing is ok, this does make full use of the HD screen and shrinks webpages to optimise to fit more stuff on the screen at once
Gmail's own app is sort of ok, if you alter to tiny font.
The Samsung email app and S-planner are very poor however, and haven't been optimised for a HD screen.
As for the email widget that manages to only display 4 emails but still use up half a HD screen....
It seems a very strange design decision to me.

I'm using tablet mod and very happy with font size. Google and samsung email clients suck ass. Hundreds of other good email clients you can find at market. I like AquaMail, it has a very good tablet interface.

Agree Android lets you play around with settings, if you have a bit of knowledge and time
I take it you've rooted to do tablet mod?
I'm using out of the box configuration.
I don't particularly want to root because I suspect I'll loose something - like S-Memo?
Are there any Calendar apps that make full use of the Note's HD screen?

You don't loose anything, even warranty (like some morons says). My configuration you can read at my signature.
You know that you can always make the font smaller for emails etc etc in the display settings..did you try that?
Edit: my bad...after reading the second time, i think you did try to make it smaller

Install Fontomizer and pick a small font from its database.
Change the font on GB to ICS's roboto font via Root explorer. Maybe this will help when you're setting it to tiny?
I know that my stock GB looks a whole world better when using the roboto font.

Hello everyone, I'm the dev for Javelin Browser. Javelin was launched less than 2 months back. And now, I am putting extra effort in making it work perfect on the Nexus 5. I think, Javelin browser is the best browser for Nexus 5 over Chrome or any other browsers, for the following 3 reasons. A - MULTI-TASK truly with Javelin Stack. AKA Link-Bubble functionality. Javelin Stack allows you to Open links in other apps and view in without switching back and forth to the full browser. B - BLOCK annoying ads Native ad-block means faster load speeds, use less data. C - KITKAT TRANSPARENCY Javelin is the ONLY browser that makes full use of KitKat's transparent status and navigation bars so you can view the entire website on your screen. Other Javelin features:
[*]1-touch navigation gestures
[*]Built-in VPN
[*]Uses AOSP WebView
[*]Reading mode

------------------ What do you think? Feel free to reply to the thread on your feedback and if there are any issues on Nexus 5, so I can make Javelin Browser better for current Nexus 5 owners
Note : I'm not the original developer. The thread is gone and no reason was given so I'm not sure if it was moderated or not, if it was please delete. Thanks mods. Hence the repost, because this app was made with the Nexus 5 in mind. I have talked to the OP about posting this and was given full permission.

Thanks! Still looking to accept any feedback and questions
Trying now
Glad it's back one way or another. Only thing so far is the font is too big. An option to make it smaller would be nice.

This is amazing just like you said built with the Nexus in mind. However, I think it could still use a one improvements to become more fluid but I admire the transparent system bars and the way it automatically uses up full screen while scrolling. I'll define rely recommend it to others.

Great app, love the color schemes and transparency of nav bar.
Has anybody been able to import bookmarks from your other browser(s) into javelin?
I really don't feel like creating them all over again
Mr Javelin, (lol)
@javelinbrowser
My only annoyance with the browser is when backing up or pressing x on the open tab, please make it go back to the home page rather than this black screen only to have to make it load the home screen again because there's nothing else you can do from there
I've just noticed a fairly big issue for me: If I select "request desktop versions" of websites in the settings (by the way, please remove "update" from "update settings") my wireless provider instantly claims I am using my phone as a hotspot and disabled my data connection... is there an alternative desktop mode method that does not make my provider thing I'm tethering?
edit: didn't mean to quote there
edit 2: requesting desktop mode on a site-by-site basis (rather than blanket through settings) it still does it. Doing the same thing through Chrome for Android, however, loads the desktop version as normal without triggering the tether warning.
Suggests to me that the user agent string being used by Javelin for requesting desktop sites is different to that which Chrome uses... could this please be fixed to use the same as the Chrome for Android desktop mode?

Hey! Love this browser result... I have noticed one thing that I can't find a resolution for, if you're browsing a long page there's no quick way to scroll all the way to the top and the address bar doesn't seem to show up before that.
Other than that, it's awesome. just my feedback

Swipe down with 2 fingers and the tab window opens. Then you can double tap on the tab and it will scroll to the top of the page.

Let's hope in the next version of Android, Google will release a better WebView that will NOT be laggy. Hopefully one that use for Chrome.
Guys since the 4.4.3 update things on Javelin seem much faster for me. Not sure if placebo or not, can someone else confirm this?

Either it's placebo, cleaner cache, or the update included some performance tweaks to webview...
Really nice browser you created :good:
Faster than Firefox and Chrome and the features are cool. G+ community joined!
