Ok, I have an AT&T 8525 version. It's been upgraded to WM6 using the official patch, and the only other thing I had running on it was SPB shell trial version or something. I set a lock password, where when ever you turned the screen on you had to enter a password to access the device. With the Shell trial thingie it would actually give you the clock first, which was why I was trying it.
Now, my problem is this. I'm an idiot and my phone got dunked in water. I took it apart, well, took the battery out, SIM card, etc, anything I could get out without dismantling the whole phone. Took compressed air and blew on it until my can froze up and I had to surgerically remove my fingers from the can o' air (ok, exaggeration there). Anyways, if I call the phone, it rings and does what it needs to. The problem is that I can't unlock the stupid phone now. I'm not forgetting the number, it just won't accept it. I'm up to 8 mins of wait time before I can reenter it as well.
So, my question, is there a way to break the lock code without destroying the data on the phone? If no, how do I reset the phone completely? Do I have to do a hard reset? Can I take it to AT&T to get them to reset it?
And one big question, does the reset go past WM6 and revert to WM5?
Thanks all.
anything, anyone?
Just having the same problem myself.
Didn't dunk in water, but found wi-fi was locking up so did a soft reset with the sylus in the reset hole and when it rebooted, it would not accept the password.
Apperently, this is a common fault with WM6 where if you reset (or lose power whilst settings are in cache memory) the phone 'forgets' your password.
Maybe this is what has happened to yours - the only way round it is a hard reset.
Must be a "feature" not a bug.
*sigh*
Makes me pretty hesitant on ever using the feature again. I'm having serious issues trying to get it back to Syncing w/ my desktop and letting me access the device as a folder. Right now it's just powering up but nothing else.

Hard reset worked for me. Only issue now is I can't get it to allow me to explore the device any more. It'll sync emails, etc, but won't let me access the device while connected to the USB.
The WM6 I used was the official version, not sure if that's a difference.
My Touch (Elf) stopped syncing with my PC for no obvious reason. I tried various options with ActiveSync both on the PC and on the Touch, but nothing worked. ActiveSync recognised the device and I could explore and transfer files, etc., and the device was charging from USB but it appeared as "Guest" and I could not persuade them to sync.
The obvious soft reset didn't help. I tried deleting any existing relationships in the hope that the wizard would jump in and let me set up a new relationship, but my Touch still appears as "Guest" with no option to set up a new relationship.
Now here's the hard part...
I nuked the Touch using the "clear all data" option and returned to manufacturer's state, then loaded a backup taken before the problem arose.
Now when I turn the device on I'm prompted for a password. I've tried the one I set up immediately after the hard reset (carefully entered and noted) but it's rejected. I'm sure I didn't set any other password or PIN on it that may have been restored along with the backup.
Now each time I try a password the device makes me wait before I can try another - doubling the delay each time. Soon it will be days before I can enter anything!
So, does anyone know how I can get my Touch back to work?
The hard reset option is triggered by software (as the "clear user data" option under settings) and I can't find any hardware-only way to do the same thing. Even if I do manage a hard reset, will the password lock be released or will I have to go through the hard reset and still need to enter the secret password?
All suggestions gratefully received.
Talk to myself then!
I solved it. A hard reset involves holding both 'call' and 'end call' buttons down while poking the reset button with the stylus, and continuing to hold them down until the prompt appears asking for confirmation. Pressing 'enter' then confirms and the device gets nuked back to factory (or whatever is in ROM if you've cooked it) state.
I wasn't holding the buttons down long enough.
All is sweet again.
Hi, This is Akash. I recently encrypted my oppo find 5 mini phone to prevent any unauthorised access to my personal data in case it gets stolen. This encryption process took around 30 mins after which it rebooted. Now this is where my problem begins. It is asking me to enter decrypt password for which i need keyboard which is not showing up. The cursor inside password box is blinking but no matter how much you tap, password box won't show up. There is emergency phone icon below which when clicked gives me access to dialpad. I tried dialing my p/w & then copy that p/w into decrypt password box but then i have no keyboard to hit enter. I even tried doing factory reset by holding power button & volume down button but it doesn't work as phone is encrypted. I just don't know what to do & tried searching for any similar issue on web but found none. So i request you to please help me out of this predicament at the earliest. I thank everyone in advance for their time & consideration.
Hi there,
My ol man decided that since the scree was unresponsive to reset the tablet. I am now having trouble with the keyboard specifically s and h keys, and having to play with the display to use buttons any ideas on what to do?
He also tripped frp which google will not let me log into despite the fact i have the password .
I bought my son the Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T530nn a couple years ago on amazon it was a Refurb. at some point he changed his pin because his siblings were getting on it without asking him and he forgot the pin. his account is the master or admin account. i can't do anything account wise except use a guest account which i can do nothing with like usb debugging or anything else as far as i know.
I tried to do a hard reset and couldn't get it to work and i eventually saw that it was locked with MDM. when i did all that has been a year or so ago its just been sitting on the shelf. Wondering if there is anyone who can point me in the right direction.
The seller on amazon I bought it from only refurbishes electronics and sells them, i am guessing it was a school tablet and a kid broke the screen or it wouldn't charge. But there's nothing the seller can do to help.
Now after I typed this entire thing i am seeing how that this whole thing could sound a little fishy, i have the invoice on amazon and i will upload that and my ugly face and govt ID and the tablet to prove it belongs to me and I'm not some kid or thief that stole it from school.
if anyone can help and needs me to upload video/photos or other info please ask and ill update as soon as possible.
Thank you for reading and helping if you can.
With the tablet off:
1. Press and hold the home button
2. Press and hold volume up
3. and then press and release the power button. Once the tablet powers up, release the other buttons.
That should bring up a menu where you navigate with volume up and down. Navigate down to Wipe Data/factory reset. Press the power button to start the reset process.
If the tablet starts up in download mode, you pressed volume down instead of up. It's easy to confuse the two on the Tab 4. Just repeat the process until you get the selection of doing a wipe data/factory reset.
the tablet has MDM(mobile device management) still enabled on it and it’s blocked from being hard reset will this work still?
no. there is nothing you can do.
