Looking to purchase a Verizon Note 4. Are there any Verizon Note 4's that are rootable besides the developer's edition? There are several brand new unopened Note 4's on Swappa that haven't taken the OTA ever. Will those be rootable?
I just need to be able to use a hotspot without paying $30 a month. My Galaxy S3 has the synergy Rom which has built in hot spot. I tried using foxfi but it disconnects you after a few minutes.
If there are any ways to get hotspot withouth $30 a month I would just buy any Note 4.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Also, when people write "Unlocked" what does that mean? Does that mean it has a unlocked bootloader?
If you want to root you'll need the developer edition. Otherwise it's currently not possible on the other Verizon variant.

All of the Verizon versions are unrootable? When people write "Unlocked" on their swappa listings, does that mean an unlocked bootloader? If not, what does it mean?

Unlocked on swappa means sim unlocked. Will work with any Sim.

Has anyone used the T-Mobile variant on AT&T? Also if I buy full price from the T-Mobile store does the Note 3 come unlocked or I have to get T-Mobile to unlock it?

TMO Note 3 comes unlocked.
If you buy the T-Mobile Note 3, you may have to get it unlocked (SIM unlocked) from somewhere else. I bought one yesterday to use on AT&T and the rep at the store told me to wait 60 days to get the phone unlocked. I ended up buying a code online in the parking lot and got it an hour later.

Sorry. Didn't even think of sim when I saw unlocked.
I'm looking to get an s5 for use in north america. My sim card is using AT&T towers. I want a bootloader that allows unlocking using "fastboot oem unlock" or a similar command; no workarounds like loki. I will be buying outright, not carrier subsidizing for 2 years. Given these criteria, which model numbers should I be considering?
I've heard that the t-mobile one has the unlockable bootloader. Does it support all the bands to use AT&T towers?
I've seen more than one model number for international units. Are all the bootloaders unlockable? What's the deal with the region-locking? Will some of them work better for me than the others?

There is no unlocking of bootloaders. It's either unlocked, or locked from the factory.
To answer your question, get the G900T (the tmobile version). You can get this at costco, best buy, target, .... and of course a tmobile store itself. It supports all of AT&T's bands and more.

Best Buy doesn't carry T Mobile phones except I prepaid, so they can't buy it there.

I bought the g900t and have been using it on att networks. I bought the phone unlocked but new beside that on ebay. I did have to play with some different apns to get it to take on different towers. I had some issues while traveling in different cities that I wouldn't get data. But I think I got the issue fixed. Just took the 133mb ota, hoping that it doesn't mess with the cell unlock or keep me from rooting. Well so far it hasn't messed with the carrier unlock

Weird. Mine did. Just buy it at Costco or a tmo store. I just bought it from a tmobile store. Went through really easily.

the tmobile store told me that they would not unlock a new phone like this for at least 6 months even if you buy it outright. So if you do that plan on unlocking it with one of the many websites that do it

Well i'm on tmobile so I didn't need them to unlock anything, but you're right, they won't unlock it so the OP will need to use some unlocking site to use it on ATT.
So the s6 sucks, gonna get a note 4 note instead. I've been reading all these threads but I'm not sure what variant I'll be getting. I'm on att and want to know if I'll be able to root it and if I'll be able to use custom roms, preferably without using safe strap. Any help/advise would be appreciated.
How about if you go and browse/search Note 4 forums? All this has alrdy been said
I've been, but there's too many forums for different models. The one I think is for the phone I'm gonna get has nothing but a kernel.
AT&T and Verizon variants are not rootable unless you have the Google play developer editions of the phone.

Get the T-Mobile version to run on at&t. There is several threads about why this is your best option.

That's probably not gonna happen since I'm getting it thru my upgrade on att and I'm not switching because I'm grandfather'd in for unlimited data. I can't afford to pay for one out right.
Then there is obviously no question about what Variant you will be getting, it will be the Att one which is as of now unrootable. You will need either a TMo one look in craigslist or an international version.

If that's your only option and want to root I would buy it, sell it immediately brand new in box, and then turn around and buy a T-Mobile version off of CL or eBay as the previous person stated. The at&t version can't be rooted. It has a locked bootloader and it doesn't look like it'll ever be any better.
The Galaxy Note Edge still to this day does not have Root. I was wondering if it was worth it getting the Note 7 from At&t or should I get an unlocked one. What do you guys think?
I had the At&t Note 4 as well, which also never got root. I recently sold mine for over $200 on eBay and I found a T-Mobile Note 3 that I rooted and ROM'd and it is nearly as fast as the Note 5. I've already pre-ordered the Note 7 through At&t only because I've used the S7 Edge and it is fast enough to not really need root. But to be fair the S7 and S7 Edge do have root so it may be possible for the Note 7 to be rooted in a similar fashion. Now the bootloader is a whole nother story!

It seems to really depend on the popularity of the phone, whether it gets root or not. The Note 4 Edge was a great phone, but was not that popular with the general public. With all the excitement generated for the Note 7, I think we will get root. I do really wish they had put the snapdragon 821 & 6GB of ram, like the rumors had said. Then it really would of been an iphone killer. Btw, I also Pre-ordered a Note 7.

We do have root, what are you talking about lol. S7 edge Verizon rooted
I'm gonna also pre-order and I have AT&T. But I'm gonna go to best buy and out right buy the unlocked no plan version. AT&T can kiss my rear end, if it weren't for my wife not wanting to leave them I would have dumped them way back when bootloader got locked.

Dont buy it from best buy, they upcharge. They wont carry a sim unlocked one anyways. Buy on amazon. For me as much as I used to like sammy I cant deal with locked bootloaders and the price tag is too high. If anything id consider a international exynos model s7 from amazon. Theres at least stable root and development.

Good advise, I went to best buy and asked if they were taking pre-orders for the unlocked version. She looked at me like I was talking some alien language. Gave me a weird expression and walked away.
You shouldn't support ANY carriers - including AT&T.
Buy unlocked and do what you want with YOUR device!

N930F (Europe); N930G (India)
I think both of these models come unlocked and I think there are also dual sim variants that come unlocked as well. Not sure.
I always go for the F variant - N930F - which is usually the international unlocked version.
Yes, it should be possible to unlock the bootloader and root - at least it was on the S7 Edge I used to own.
Keep in mind, the international model uses the Exynos processor as opposed to the SD820 the US version uses.
They both have pros and cons - do your research before you purchase. Especially if you are planning to root, use Samsung Pay etc...
I prefer international for less bloat/carrier restrictions, better battery life, root etc...
P.S. -> if you root then no Samsung Pay

Thank you for your input! Can't do a phone without unlockable BL. I don't even know what Samsung pay is so that's okay.

Don't the unlocked phones use different frequencies/channels compare to US carriers and might not get full potential of US LTE network?
Even between US carriers the frequencies/channels are different. For example my Note 3 T-mob doesn't use some channels that Att uses and I can't get full LTE speeds on ATT network because of that.

Yes there are. There's some cons too.
Many individuals claim better battery with the unlocked firmware but I saw a small hit tbh. Maybe it's because of the lack of 4x4 and 256QAM.
I personally only use the unlocked firmware because it has a better locking LTE icon that tmobile lol
You can switch SIMs between any carrier
S8 experience
Looking for help on deciding what to do about the note 8. Looking for words of advise from you s8/8+ ppl since you already have experience.
Did not have the note 7 long obviously and honestly did not even realize it was locked down tight. Soooo now i am thinking about buying the international note 8 instead of the us one since i hear it will be able to be rooted. Soooo my questions to you guys
1) what do i lose by buying the international version?
2) what do i gain (other than flsshing) by buying the international verdion.
3) will the international version work on both sprint and tmobile should i decide to switch.
4) what's the best way to buy the international version and what do i beed to look out for. All the s8's on amazon i have seen only appear to work on tmobile.
Thanks for any and all help
