Test it underwater ?
I easily get 80K+ on lowest brightness

here is mine, reached 76k+!! (76958)
The phone is in a leather case, so I think it is normal I didn't get 80k+!!

Defective device?
I just got 50334 with no Stamina stuff no background apps. Is the second time I test it. Using antutu 6.0.4
I am really disappointed on this device. Listen Spotify (offline) and no background apps is enough to heat the device.! So disappointing!!
(The OS and apps are all update.)

install "cpu temperature" from play store (it's free) and check the temperature during the test....
also set the brightness to minimum!

Score: 62622, stamina off, battery on 50%, medium backlight

got 81582 after MM update on auto brightness

got 89488 on MM
3d 30487
ux 30079
cpu 22954
ram 5968

Can someone tell the settings used to get those scores? I only get around 5K - 6K

I guess the issue is alway heat generation
Try running with some cooling to see if there us improvement

Got 92K on MM!

Both on idle? (I mean wifi/mobile data turned off and no app open)
check the cpu usage when you are monitoring temperature!
On idle I get 32/33C on cpu temperature!

Well... Then we could say those scores are not realistic or useful since in daily life the real score is around 5K - 6K. I'm honestly disappointed of this phone. I was expect much more from Sony

what do you mean by "those scores are not realistic"??
I have mine in a leather case and a tempered glass installed on the back, on auto-brightness I get +81K score on Antutu!!
what is not realistic about it?

What I mean is that the score in daily life at least in my case is around 5K.
Use Spotify offline is enough to heat my device. The battery don't last even a day.
I tried to restore using the Sony software (companion), updating the OS and installing the updates.
I contacted tech support and their brilliant answer was: "this is normal" and they couldn't do anything. Worst support ever.

[DISCUSSION] Battery life with overclocking is epic!

Only had the phone for two days so this should improve even more:
overclocking to 1.4ghz, under clocking when screen off to 0.3. 9 hours screen off, didn't lose a percent, still 100 on desire Z. EPIC!
thats good to hear ! Cant wait till i get my hands on it! damnit ! 5 or more days togo
Did you have any other functions enabled? 3G/WiFi? Sync'ing with FB or Twitter apps? Anything like that?

how many hours can you get out of it when you are using it throughout the day, e.g. email, internet browsing, twitter, bit of music and phone calls? using data and wifi?. Im on my 5th day and averaging about 14 hours, hoping that the battery hasnt settled yet, otherwise my hope is for the NAND being hacked and roms for optimal performance!
Do you actually get more real-life performance out of the overclocking (snappier menus, faster app launching), or the only place where it shows is the benchmark? Is Sense faster, or is the difference not visible (0.8 vs 1.4)?
On the other hand, underclocking could be really useful to preserve battery. But doesn't the processor underclock on its own when in standby (by design), do we need to use 3rd party apps?

contrary to what you should expect,
overclocking this SoC just hightens the clock's max roof from 800MHz to 1GHz, 1.2 or 1.4GHz, not the "permamnt" MHz count,
because it auto-fluctuates and adapt depending on usage
AND with the SetCPU app (which I assume JupiterDroid is using),
cycles per second can be optimized even more.
The phone won't go up all over the way to 1.4GHz when idle, but will maintain a very low cycles per second clocks, thus improving battery life
Here's my experience w/ battery life and overclocking the Desire Z (for today).
I only have it set to overclock to 1GHz and I have typical SetCPU profiles to underclock to 245MHz when not in use.
My phone has been off the charger since 9am (5.5 hours) and is sitting at 92% battery power. This includes permanent connection to WiFi (no sleep policy), receiving updates to email/gmail and some text conversations with Trillian and a 15 minute email (composed w/ keyboard).
Compared to my old HTC Hero (Running VR 1.5.0), this is a huge improvement, though with VR 1.5.0 I could run JuiceDefender & have similar battery life with the right profile setup.
Yup I even notice better battery life in actual use. My friends were running youtube and doing web searches like crazy on my phone last night + games for a good 5 straight hours and the battery was holding up well.
I've got to say, the battery life on the Desire Z is outstanding... 18 hours with light use and battery still @ 92%!!!
What about 1GHz core compile?

are you using set CPU and overclock?
Is anybody getting time without a signal percentage in the cell standby item in the battery usage? Im getting 12% sometimes more and im getting about 14 hours battery life with moderate use! I dont feel im getting the best out of the battery and worried this might be part of the issue!
Hi guys.. sorry for the novice post.. i have had my Desire Z for a day and am interested in overclocking it - but
a) are you saying it possibly INCREASES battery life?
b) is the speed diff noticeable in day to day use - or just benchmarks?
c) How do i overclock - what is SetCPU and how does it work?
I don't think my battery has settled yet .. I hope not anyway, and I just (temp) rooted and overclocked to 1Ghz last night, haven't tried higher yet because I feel like my battery is kind of just disappearing so far, none of this epic "all day and then some" stuff some people are reporting. I think it may be that fact that I've been using the device pretty sporadically so far, and it hasn't had a chance to settle.
Also "cell standby" seems to be using a lot of battery, and I'm thinking that's because I'm unfortunately in a spot where I get extremely poor to no coverage most of the day. So I'm thinking the cell radio is using a lot of juice trying to get that 1 bar I sometimes see here. There didn't seem to be a way to easily disable the cell radio without disabling wifi though, until I found this "airplane mode wifi tool" on the market which I just installed.
So now my cell radio GPS and bluetooth are all off while wifi is on, hopefully that will make a difference. I'm wondering if using 802.11n is more draining than 802.11g also I know both my router and the desire z support N but "network info II" reports I'm only connecting at 65Mbps, while my laptop connects at 150Mbps.

I don't think there's any way overclocking can actually increase battery life, but managing CPU speed with SetCPU seems to be more effective than the default behaviour for some reason, so the fact you're overclocking when using it but underclocking when not using it results in longer battery life. I'm pretty sure it does regulate the speed automatically without setCPU but maybe it doesn't clock the CPU down to absolute minimum by default when the screen is off?
Anyway the noob friendly guide to overclocking by JD is on the forum with an [INSTRUCTIONS] tag.. I can't link to it apparently since I'm a noob.
Edit: Added link ~TheRomMistress
Thanks guys. Main thing i'm curious about is whether i just install SetCPU or i have to "root"
Yes, SetCPU needs root access.
Still trying to figure out how the OP is underclocking to .3 using SetCPU.. Lowest I can go is 245..
Unless I'm an idiot and completely missing something.. I'd love to turn this phone way down when the screen right off. As it sits, I'm lucky to get a full day from a fully charged battery.

Saving battery on zte blade?

What are the best ways to save battery on a zte blade using latest cm7?
Sent from my Blade using XDA App
I would love to know if anyone can describe what their battery life is like. I am using cm7.0.3 and after full charge, on stand by mode I have 80% left after 8 hours. Is it good? Bad? Tips to improve this please!

Tips: amoled therefore use black background
- lower brightness
- disable data connection
- use task killers
I get around a day's use with fairly heavy usage. But games do suck the juice up.
@Drupad yours sounds good, although I'm using N78.
Use Green Power from the Market to turn off Wi-Fi when screens turns off.
Don't overclock.
For my 2¢, I've been using the SMARTASS kernel governor for a while with pretty good results for standby (CyanogenMod settings, Performance, CPU settings).

Hi Oly, Nice to see a familiar name in this forum I was wondering if you are as regular here
If yours is bad - I guess it's because of CM7.0.0 - upgrade it, they have fixed that bug (read on CM7 forums)

My brightness is set to 'auto' - should I stop that?
I don't use data connection for anything other than email sync. However good you mentioned task killer. I have installed advanced task killer and set it to kill all tasks when my screen is off. However, as soon as I activate the phone from sleep mode, I can see at least 8-10 apps already active! - could it be a dodgy task killer?

I get more than a day actually now that I've upgraded to latest nightly CM7. They seem to have fixed to battery drain. I charged my phone last night. I've listened to about 45 minutes of online radio while travelling, made 1 call (about 2 mins) and played angry birds for 10-15 minutes. It's been 9 hours since I first used my phone and I have 53% battery remaining. I am also using a live background with auto-screen brightness.
In a nutshell - I think CM7 N85 is better than N78 - give it a go if you like!
I don't use Wi-Fi. I only use data connection from Orange (they seem to have given me unlimited internet so will get as much as I can - yes because I don't like Orange.)
Overclocking doesnt seem to work on my blade. Anything more than 604 and my phone restarts if I use more than 2 apps!

hi drupad
task killers are different in android apps need to constantly run in the background
its just the way it is (not like WM task manager!) it's normal for the apps to start running again after standby
thanks for pointing out cm7.0.3 changelog thingy! i'll try to reflash to 7.0.3 when im free sometime

I spend almost 3 nights (nearly!) reading Modaco forums, but nothing impressed me as much as CM7! CM7 was the only ROM that had most if not all feature functioning. I am presuming android custom roms have more 'functionality' issues than WM! And if you are going to 7.0.3 - also get nightly 85! It's Gingerbread 2.3.4!

i made a thread abt this (tg01 forum) some time back comparing it to spb 3.5 winmo.
it is faster than it was on tg01 and a bit prettier
also it may save some battery.... (if you should, try launcherpro - i think its really good for battery too!)

Thanks a lot for that advice mate! I had completely forgotten about the SPB Shell! It will be very interesting to see how it integrates to already beautiful android layout! I am going to give it a go straightaway! Will report back soon.. I used launcherpro for a few hours, but soon realised as customizable as it might be, it's only good if I buy a full version (gives more options!) So ended up uninstalling. Won't be spending much on market just yet, may be after a couple of pay days
It's AWESOME! Definitely better than Stock, AWD and LauncherPro! It's sleek and smooth. I like it already.. however, will give it some try in over-all functionality. The app drawer scrolling has improved by 150%... Doesn't lag AT ALL..
Thanks for suggesting this mate.. If the functionality is good for day to day use and if battery drain is minimal, then this is my THE APP!

yeh it's very smooth somehow! launcher pro / stock app drawer is laggy and choppy to scroll through, but buttery smooth on spb!
new carousel is a nice improvement on the android version compared to wm3.5 right?
it is actually incredibly smooth on SF ! it is also cheaper than WM version..
however, i only use it on my SF, not on my other devices... (some reason it lags a bit on my galaxy tab... )

Kernel governors from my understanding help determine the way the device responds to dynamic frequency scaling.
Performance is the best for device response but consumes the most battery as it's hitting the upper frequency constantly. Powersave is the opposite as it's hitting the lowest clock speed constantly.
Interactive polls cpu demand based on a timer rather than just currant demand (uses a bit more juice than ondemand).
Ondemand gives a good balance between response and battery.
Conservative is similar to ondemand but ramps up/ down to currant demand more smoothly (at the detriment to response).
Smartass governor caps the max sleeping (ie. screen off) frequency to 352Mhz, so uses less battery. However it acts like Interactive when the screen is on & can use more power than ondemand.
For me Smartass works best on my blade, however on my N1 ondemand is better - go figure

Yes 120% smoother and improved carousel! I think they've got it almost right this time.. I've noticed the reduction in SPB widgets though. Thought they might give integration to most of the shell. I wonder what WM users might do without these integrations, widgets. I think buying SF is one of the good decisions I've made this year - it's worth the money for android phone! (Still jealous of your SGS2 though!)

The Xperia SP's battery is mind blowing

Its been about 2 weeks since I got my phone and I'm mighty impressed with the battery life, probably because of stamina mode. I know it's only this good since I also haven't installed too many apps on it yet, but it's still much better than any android device I've ever had before.
Shame the battery isn't removable though. How's the battery holding up on your phones?

Holy crap, what's screen on time like? Performance?
If you post such a screenshot you might aswell tell us the trick that did it I could get 4 days out of my phone on stamina mode and this was with some hours of music and music browser of course, but not much more.
the best that i have seen on my phone is 45 hours ( almost 2 days ) but with 4.5 HOURS SCREEN! too much i think!

I use mine moderately most days sometimes heavily and I still get about 1.5 days usage.
Stamina mode is very impressive indeed. :silly:

No tricks really. Here's how I've been using it.
Settings:
Bravia engine off
Mobile data off most of the time
Wi-Fi on most of the time
GPS off
Stamina mode on of course
Apps:
Streamed a video episode
Streamed music (on chrome)
Played music (on app)
Took pictures
Used flashlight once or twice
Sent a couple of files via bluetooth
Yeah its generally light usage, but again I suspect the lack of apps that have running background services are also a factor in this. Apart from Gmail I don't have any other email or social network apps set up yet. I check my accounts manually on Chrome.
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app

Hmm, well that's just great. Thing is I have cleaned all the bloatware from my device and I dont use social media, I do have whatsapp and gmail+google calendar running. Normally I get 2 days most out of one battery and this is when stamine mode is off because of whatsapp. But maybe I should try data mode off, wifi on and see what will happen that way. There is almost no situation where I'm not near wifi which I can connect too Still I think using whatsapp a lot eats battery.
I'd love to see 3 days with average use on this device.
My results are just shi**y!
My brightness is on auto.
Data always off.
Sync off.
No other apps installed, which are running in the background except whatsapp.
Stamina is on, for sure! But the battery life is anyway very bad!
5.5-6 hours of screen on time isn't mind blowing. My friend's iPhone 5 gets 8-9. What's surprising is that this has a much bigger battery, and even when the brightness is low and the CPU is underclocked it still drains the battery faster than similar devices. I don't think it's very efficient....

well he doesnt seem to use the phone to play or use apps.... so if it is idle all the time you can pretty sure get even more out of it. If you set a cpu-profile for screen-off time, it will be hardly losing battery. I did that on my old phone and despite it was lagging when waking up it lost less than five percent over a week while i did nothing but checking clock from time to time
Greetings
ps it is said that screen-off-profiles are not good for processor.... but i don't know anymore where i read that

I haven't checked the screen on time and I already charged my phone yesterday. I'll check it again when it's needs a recharge again and post it here (it might take a while lol). Also, not using any performance altering apps or techniques, is there a certain way you check performance?

Hmm, well that's just great. Thing is I have cleaned all the bloatware from my device and I dont use social media, I do have whatsapp and gmail+google calendar running. Normally I get 2 days most out of one battery and this is when stamine mode is off because of whatsapp. But maybe I should try data mode off, wifi on and see what will happen that way. There is almost no situation where I'm not near wifi which I can connect too Still I think using whatsapp a lot eats battery.
I'd love to see 3 days with average use on this device.

Whatsapp does eat up a lot of battery. Since I charged my phone I've been using Whatsapp and the phone is already down 20%.
I don't know if this affects battery or not since I haven't tried it before on any other device, but I'm using 3 home screens instead of 5, I'm gonna try adding back 2 screens on the next charging cycle and see if it makes a difference.
I might have a look into changing cpu frequencies when in idle then. For now I'm with a HTC One X because of dead pixels on my SPs camera sensor.
The HTC(nVidia Tegra3) has less battery capacity but with average plus use it gets two days easily, makes me wonder what is wrong with the Sony firmware....

Do you know, that in Stamina mode you can allow certain apps to run.
So turn on Stamina mode, long press on stamina, and add Whatsapp.
mine loses 10% when im asleep lol. with stamina mode on, its around 7%

I did know this but I thought the stamina mode switches of the 3G connection, when the screen is off, which is needed for whatsapp or am I mistaken? Thanks for the hint.
I'll try, my phone should be delivered home tomorrow morning

You haven't really thought this thoroughly
The iPhone cpu runs at 1.3 ghz vs 1.7 ghz on the SP
The iPhone Gpu runs at 275 mhz vs 400 on the SP
The resolution is lower than the SP, which means the GPU on the iPhone doesn't have to work as hard
My Xperia SP still runs longer than my friends iPhone 5,
Easily get two days use out of it, screen on time of about 5-6 hours
That's not bad,

Battery Performance - Post Screenshots Here

I came from a Z2 and that battery was really great. Not only was it a good size but Sony did a great job with optimisation.
From my experience so far the AM7 does well With the battery using it in normal battery mode which is recommended for games and movies. I don't want to use any other mode to reduce performance.
Let me know what you think. Overall I am happy with battery life but they could have optimised the phone better I think.
Here is an example of a heavy day use when I had the phone off charge at 10am and used the camera loads plus all the other stuff we all use.

How come cpu z says my battery is on 3000mAh? is this the same with everyone? im only getting about 12 - 14 hrs mobile data on and about 2 to 3 hours gaming. most of my apps are just social and messaging i wonder if there is something wrong with my unit.

Phone off charge at 0530 this morning and its now 2307 !!!
I changes the battery mode to smart and it made the battery so much better and made NO difference in performance (from what I can notice) with films and camera.
39% left at 2309hrs after 18hrs !! That's insane.
I can barely reach 1 full day with my battery and Im wondering if its because of all the things running on my phone like I installed Nova Launcher and I have 2 desktop screens heavy with widgets plus my corporate mail is set to auto push my mail. What are your thoughts?

I use 2 emails on gmail. Stock launcher and high auto brightness. The phone gives you notifications what is draining. Post a PIC of battery page like below as that's not right. What model you have ?
thanks. i checked out the app but i cannot suspend my connection when my phone is off as i need to continue to receive message and be alerted anytime. also looking at the features of the app it looks like it is already available in the phone tools of this phone which is why i love it it already shows you a lot of info about apps that are heavy battery users and you can set it in a way where you can have them close and suspended when your phone is off .
What I have done so far is to remove my data manager which is being shown to be extensive battery user and also went back to emui suspending nova launcher (there are users saying its draining their battery) and HD widgets so far my battery lasts longer even with mobile data always on.
shame because i like nova launcher if it turned out to be too much of a battery hogger i may have to ditch it and try apex i can never get used to emui having no app drawer.

Ah this makes lots of sense. I was under the impression the 3gb model was just for the people in China and the 2gb model was for everyone else. I avoided the 3gb model as I was under the impression it would have radios specific for that country. Did your phone come with play store installed already or not ? I maybe totally wrong but this could be why your battery is draining so bad still ?? Let me know as interested.
Could you also download CPU z and take a screen shot of the battery section like I have below. The model I am using only shows 3000mah battery and am wondering if yours shows the same ?

Mine says 3000mAh as well. TL09 model.
it shows the same with me on CPU Z 3000mAh. probably the app is not reading it right. i think i was able to sort it out. took out power hungry apps and suspended apps that i dont need running on the background and i am able to get a day of charge at light to medium usage.
From what i know the gold version is offered outside china although some country doesnt have them. looking at my package the document actually says austrailia.

Ultimate Battery saving solution Thread!

Hello guys,
I have been researching, experimenting and trying many many things to understand how cell phone battery consumption works and how to find the solution to be able to use the most of the battery! HTC did a very bad job on the battery side of M9 and in my opinion, Battery is the only downside of M9. I will explain later why I say that.
I will share the tips and tricks I found to get such battery life that none of you ever think of getting out of M9. Look at below battery stat. It looks like M8 battery stat which made all M8 user really happy with their device! Now we will be enjoying that too! BTW This is my birthday today, so its a very good day for me to post this thread. Wish me luck!
First Let me explain some things about why a phone drain the battery in relation with CPU and Apps.
1. Random CPU freq change.
2. CPU heat.
3. When phone is idle, means you are not doing anything(not opening apps or neither you have apps opened in background, CPU freq not being able to stay down.
4. GPU related drains(while playing games or not)
5. Display category. Amoled or LCD or what type.
6. Buggy ROM keeping wake locks. ( I am not going to talk about wake locks at all. There are good enough threads for this)
7. Apps. Each you open and close an app, the cpu starts working, freq goes high. So, this means, the less opening and closing you can do the less battery you consume. Now, all these concepts of app killer running in background, killing apps after a certain interval, ARE COMPLETELY WASTE OF BATTERY AND NOTHING ELSE! Android keeps opening apps in background according to its algorithm. So, if you want those app to stop bugging you in the background, then task killers are NOT ANY USE AT ALL! Remember! The less app in background the less drain you will get. We usually use home button a lot when coming to home screen but we dont realize the app just got minimized and consuming as much as battery as it would if it was open in the foreground. So result is, bad standby time + more drain while screen is on.
So how can you get rid of those background apps? Best way is to use Greenify. Greenify is the only app that can hibernate any app without hogging battery by itself and keeping wake locks. How to find which apps to put under auto hibernation list? You need 2/3 days to observe. Greenify will automatically mark those apps which opens in background. Once you are with good number of apps, greenify all of them. In greenify settings, select autohibernation so that even if some gets awake by the app, can be put to sleep again. Now two things will hapen because of this.
1. You will consume MUCH LESS CPU power means you will save battery. The device will be very snappy. Ram will be at least 1.3 gb free.
2. It will take more time for an app to open which are under your hibernation list. Now I have thought about it. My conclusion is that, I need to choose between battery and super fast device. When I on battery saving priority I follow the solutions of this threads and when I am not worried about the battery I try to enjoy the device.
So, we can restrict apps from hogging with greenify. Now how to control the CPU?
Out CPU is actually ULTRA FAST and is capable of fastest performance amongst all smart phone around. Here is the antutu benchmark to show how crazy this CPU can be! So crazy CPU will drain battery. Its cor-relational. So, the solution is to limit the CPU from putting too much power, especially when it gives more than the phone and user needs. When I was using HTC Sensation, I was feeling like, there are 2/3 things which should be better and I demand nothing more from a phone. LIke battery, camera, ram etc. But after M7 I have never felt that the phone should get faster and we should get like 4 gb of ram either~! But newer means faster and better. So CPU + GPU are getting more powerful and eventually the phone is getting such overrated power which it doesnt even need! After all we are not flying to moon with our phones! lol!~ Right?
ok Now how to limit the CPU?
We need
1. Elemental x kernel 4.01 installed with all stock configuration. This is important. Yout must use STOCK values. I have seen anything else other than STOCK values drain the battery even more! So STOCK IS BEST!
2. Elemental x kernel app or Kernel adiutor kernel config app to tune the kernel for our battery saving mode.
Steps-
- Set HTC pnp manager off
- Set max cpu freq of small cluster to 864 mhz, min cpu freq to 384
-Make sure you are on stock gov.
- Set GPU max to 320 GHZ.
-Flash this zip by @ivicask Battery tweaked php zip

[/URL]
Disclaimer: These settings will make the phone performance slower but not laggy. So, just consider a power saver package which has very decent speed too!
After applying these settings, you better restart your device to let settle it with new rules for CPU. leave the phone for 2/3 mins. The things that you will notice when you turn on the display -
1. No rapid CPU freq changes
2. Phone is ultra cool as the temp of CPU and battery has gone down to 35 C. M9 with default setting will never come down to 35 c ever! The lower temp would be 40 c. So, cooling the cpu will minimize mA consumption.
3. when you open any heavy app like fb or chrome you will see the consumption mA rate is almost half of what it is with default settings. Max rate of discharge was 700 mA for me with 50% brightness + 3g internet + FB/chrome/youtube.
4. When you leave your phone to sleep, here is the fun! I have never seen such low mA discharge rate on M9 and I didnt even expect! It goes as low as 40 mA! Insane! The avg screen of discharge rate I found was 70 mA which means on full charge our M9 will get 40 hours standby! And that is with internet on.
5. If you are charging with official m9 charger, you will see the charging rate is 850/+- mA while your display is on with internet. When screen off it will reach mac to 1340 mA. My phone previously was charging at 600 mA with screen off. So, now 0 to full charge is only in 2 hours.
6. Clash of Clans used to drain 1200 mA and now it drains only 550-600 mA.

Instead of turning PNPMGR off, have a look at this first. http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/mod-htc-one-m9-enhanced-thermal-t3369574
It's a pretty indepth thread on the pros and cons of PNPMGR, and also custom thermal configuration files that change clock speeds of your CPU, dependent on your usage.
Also, your Antutu benchmark picture isn't anywhere to be found.
What about CPU boost? Do you disable it?

Hi,
If you did an OTA update to MM and are losing that much battery in just an hour of heavy use, then I would back up everything and do a factory reset. I can go for 5 hours of very heavy power user performance before dropping to that level. Either that, or you have a malware app on the phone that is being used in the background. Which a factory reset will also solve.( except in rare cases, requiring a firmware reflash)
