I found juice defender in the past to be a battery problem instead of a solution.
what's your battery now? how much juice do you get?
I think that anyone who experiences bad battery life should exchange their phone or battery. I can go two days without recharging and still have 29 % left. That 29 % might even last me through the 3rd day but I would prefer not to risk it.
I did a little test today.
I unplugged the phone at 7am when i got up.
I only turned it on for a couple of seconds, twice, to check battery level, and it had gone down to 75% by 9am. (so by 9am, no more than 1 minute max screen-on time)
Is that worse that others?
My battery does (like everyone else's) immediately drop to 99% on unplugging it - actually, sometimes 98% right away.
I'm surprised anyone gets more than a day's worth out of it?
I also noticed, when it was on my desk, that the screen switches on, on it's own every now & then. Maybe every half hour or so?
Is that also normal?
I'm having a bit of trouble with my battery aswell. I only have 54% left with only 1h15 screen on time and that was only for some texting and browsing.
Is this normal or should I go back to he store to check the battery?
Also, should I try the free version of Juice Defender or is it not worth to use it unless you have the paid version?

Dropping 25% in 2 hours time with a display on time of 1 minute is definitely much more drain than normal. My phone usually drops around 2-3% per hour if it's unused on my desk.
I also find it weird that your display switches on every now and then by itself.
You have a lot of apps that poll the net for data in the background? (facebook, twitter and so on)
Are you on wifi when this happens, or mobile data?
Try turning off sync altogether some day and see how much it drains your battery per hour.
Hi all ,
Today is my 1st day with new s3 bought yest. night and coming from s2,
My s3 was full charged this morning, and after abt 12 hrs of normal use ( some calls + facebook + whatsapp + viber . . . . . ) battery level is 60%.
I think that by this way new s3 battery will stay normally 2 days . . .
If people are experiencing high battery usage its because of your apps. All battery saving apps do is turn off your data or tweak your syncing.
On wi-fi with no much syncing, you should get about 1-2% drain per hour. On mobile date this goes up to about 2-4% per hour.
Tips for battery save.
- Switch off Google Back up & restore
- Accounts and sync, switch off what you don't need
- Email exchange accounts can be set with a "off-peak syncing"
- Be thorough with news and local based apps. Turn off auto syncing or reduce the frequency in which they sync.
- A good way to check which apps are using data when idle is by going into settings > Data usage. When you click on any of the apps listed, it will show how much data is used in fore/back ground. The ones with high background usage you might want to investigate. You can also disable the app from using data in he background by setting yourself a data limit
- Apps like Facebook, Google+ are battery hogs. So if you don't need it, uninstall.
My battery is awesome so far. 2 days with normal use and 3.5-4 days of light use...
Why does the a battery need to last two days? Can't you charge it over night?

It really depends on your usage. Screen on time tells something, but not everything. For example watching a hd-video eats far less battery than surfing on the internet with 3g. But still, the battery life is great, so no disagreement there.
My battery so far so good
Standard, not too heavy, day by day usage
One thing not mentioned so far is wi-fi. If you are connecting to a 'dodgy' router, this is going to eat into battery life. So if you aren't using it, switch it off.

Today i woke up to a phone that had a depleted its battery more or less overnight with just 30% screen on time.
I did experience the phone lasting 2½ days without a charge during my holidays and that was with 2 hrs screentime and 35% left. That's the kind of performance I'd wish for. The phone is rooted, and I'm using solo launcher, but hardly any customization that aside.
I took SCREENSHOTS of everything that might be important. Maybe you can tell me whats wrong. Under cpu states it says 1khz and only that. Isn't that a bit odd?

IMO that's not too bad I have a 7200 mah battery and it last me about that longs with around 4 hours of SOT, but it seems like your phone might be clocking too high, and brightness might be too high for the screen to be the main suspect like that, with only 30 mins of SOT
I think it's linked to the 3g/4g. If I disable that my phone will last significantly longer. I spend roughly 2 hours on transport a day. Conversely during my holidays it stayed in and around a summerhouse for 2½ days on one charge with 3g with long screen time and camera use. That's a hypothesis at least. Also I didn't use google music or any other audio player at that time.
I can get 2 hrs of SoT, but then I have to actively spend all the battery in the first half of the day, because after a full day the battery will be more or less drained regardless of SoT
If you don't ever use your printing features then i would delete those apps also because the printing service are usually turned on by default and searching for something to connect too or make sure its turned off in your ROMs settings so its not constantly searching.
90% of the time that unexplained battery drain occurs it is caused by low signal and the phone constantly trying to lock on or find a better signal. You can try to decrease this drain by using wifi in low signal areas but your phone will still drain your battery if the voice signal is low to. My phone lasts all day and then some when I'm in good signal coverage. When I go to my brother in law's house which is out in the middle of no where my phone will drain the battery in a matter of hours.

Are you sure? S4's battery is 2600 mAh. It should take about 15 hours or more to make the battery become low with minutes of gaming.. I have S3 mini and its battery is 1500 mAh and it takes about 12 hours or more to make the battery become low.
I can get 5 hours on 60 percent but I gotta be using battery saver with data off when I lock the acreen

Was the battery life always terrible or is it just now?
I'm having a similar problem so I'll use this thread instead of creating a new one. I hope you don't mind.
My battery is draining at a rate of 15% per hour even If I leave it on standby, ocasionally turning on the screen to get a message on Whatsapp of checking the time. It was 100% this morning, 1 and a half hours later, 74%.
After reading on the forums that the cause of the battery drain could be that the phone was constantly trying to get network signal (in cases where the signal is poor, like where I live), I decided to switch on airplane mode. To my surprise, in 3 minutes after this the phone was in 75%. 10 minutes later and I got a 76%. As I write (on PC) it is on 80%.
That's right. The phone started "recharging" without a cable (I know this is impossible, just describing what the display shows me) after I turned on airplane mode.
Any ideas about what might be going on and how can I solve this?
Thanks in advance!
P.S.: It's not the battery itself, as I've bought a brand-new, samsung original battery and the draining was still the same
EDIT: the battery started behaving like this only a few weeks ago. So I'd assume that the signal problem could be helping, but would not be the main reason on why my battery goes down so quickly.

You could try that and see if it is a rom problem.
Otherwise try to borrow a battery from somewhere just to be sure it isn't the battery.
I figured we could get this started, so we can start to post stats and screenshots once you finish initial setup/installation and get into regular daily use.
went to bed last night with the idol at 75%. woke up and it was still at 75% to my surprise. (and I did the update right out of the box, for anyone wondering.)
Seem to be great, can't wait fort mine
The phone arrived at around 40-45%. Spent around 2 hrs updating/installing/customizing stuff which was enough to drop the battery to 15%. Mind you that almost all factory settings were still there like vibrate on almost everything and sound on almost everything. Battery was fully charged rather quickly. I had around an hour of SoT before going to bed with around 80-75%. I woke up to a 70% battery after 10 hrs ( I slept in).
I think battery on mine could be improved by turning down the Google Now settings. It is the most power hungry in the battery stats at 9%. Oddly, the location icon is almost always on even if I'm not doing any location related tasks. I'm hoping to look into this more and fully test the battery tomorrow when I go to Sta. Cruz.
The Idol 3 just won't die! I'm using it around the house. Haven't actually put a sim card in it yet, so that might explain some of the great battery life that I've been getting. But this is the first full power cycle after getting it on Saturday. Auto brightness, full sync. I had to stop at 11% so I could do a charge test today. But I have no doubt that this 11% could have gotten me another hour of screen on time. Tons of streaming Sirius too over the front facing speakers (like 5 hours). Very impressed so far. The price is justified by the screen and the speakers alone in my opinion. Add great battery life to the mix and it's a pretty special device IMO.
Charging time is done. Used an Anker 2.0 Quick Charge (just to make sure it got the maximum it could handle). Went from 11% to 100% in 2 hours and 28 minutes. Not too shabby considering how long it holds on to the charge.
Bettery drain while on wifi
Hi, I have bad battery drain while on wifi. What I noticed is that cell signal goes from empty to full while unlocking screen. It goes up to 10% per hour. But when I was away from home for few hours on lte, it was very minimal. Any ideas? Software bug or maybe some app is causing that? Thanks!

Yeah, that's the first thing I did. Today I'm on LTE all day long and battery is amazing. But when on Wi-Fi my cell signal goes to emergency back and forth. Maybe my phone is a lemon

I should have checked the battery life before loading all my apps but I forgot. During sleep hours I only have the wifi, auto sync and phone antenna enabled. I also either use the adaptive brighness at 50% or have the brightness set to about 20% with adaptive disabled. The first night I checked the battery overnight usage it was down 16% in 10 hours. That was also runny 3 apps on the notification area. The drain comes to 1.6% per hour. The next night I removed the 3 apps that run in the notification area and the drain was 10% in 8 hours, which comes to 1.25% per hour. That's better than my old phone but I still think it's too high. No apps are open in the recent apps screen.
Is anyone getting better or worse? I would like to compare my battery drain with everyone else.
Edit: I did disable Wifi Network Notification and Scanning Always Available. I'm not sure what kind of effect they have on the battery though.

Yesterday was my first battery experience day. I have to say it turned out pretty good. I got roughly 16hrs from 100% charge down to 15% charge. I got a battery warning when i was headed to bed. Throughout the day, here's a list of the things I did in general to give a scope on usage:
* I had all services on, LTE, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS (High precision)
* i used it to read a kindle book. I had my screen set at about 80% brightness the whole day.
* I have "Automatic" app which uses the phone GPS to track my drives to and From work.
* I ran with Runkeeper GPS
* also streamed music to and from work on my wohle commute (roughly 45 minutes).
* Then throughout the day did normal checking of various apps and websites, and notifications.
* In general during the work day I don't use it much from 9-5, except maybe to check it once an hour , and read a little.
Previously on my Nexus 4, I would have had to have it charging all the way to work. Then charging all the way home, and many times it wouldn't make it to bed time without another charge. With the Idol 3, i didn't put it on a charger once throughout the whole day. Pretty awesome.
This is my second full day. I expect that it will improve after a few cycles but I have absolutely nothing to complain about. WiFi on most of the day. 2 Gmail accounts syncing, Bluetooth on, display only at 50%, (not to save battery, but just because I don't need it any higher)
I have a few small hiccups with the DTTW but it isn't terrible.
P.S. This blows away my Zenfone 2 in battery life.
Battery life is ridiculously good. Charging my phone is no longer a pressing issue for me nowadays. Personally, I am indoors most of the day so I have set my screen brightness to 0% and it is perfectly fine. When I am outdoors, I will pump up the brightness to 100% which increases the battery consumption noticeably.
I've had the phone for a week and a half and still have never gotten down low enough for Battery Saver mode to kick in.
For me battery hold amount of charge EOD.
100% in morning around 10 AM.
1. wifi/4g ON all the time.
2. GPS during commute to work and vice-versa
3. Music app for 1.5-2 hrs.
4. played game for 2 hrs.
5. normal browsing.
Now @ 7 PM : still 45% left.
For those still unhappy with the battery life here are a few free apps that can help:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.gpo.greenpower&hl=en [ Battery saver...does things like only keep wifi on periodically to check for hotspots and only turn on bluetooth when charging etc ]
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitocassisi.luxlite&hl=en [ Adjust screen brightness based on light levels ]
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keyes.screebl.classic [ Keeps screen on when phone is held in upright position but quickly turns screen off when phone is placed flat ]
I use the pay versions of these and consider them worthwhile.
Does anyone know how the automatic brightness works or if its even useful to have it on

I see no such option on the Axon 7.
This probably depends on phone manufacturer, try find menu or more in Wi-Fi options, most of Android 4/5 usually have this option, sorry I'm only potential buyer of A7

Sorry, ZTE Axon 7 doesn't have option "Scanning always available"(User Manual page 57), Older ZTE Axon it has (User Manual page 53).
There is an option to turn Wi-Fi off when asleep in the Wi-Fi advanced options menu. Might be worth trying.

Sounds like this is a settings issue, not zte or the phone.
This battery drain is obviously the result of a wakelock. Adjusting WiFi settings will not solve your problem.
Have you checked the 'fast battery drain apps' in power manager. Mines not liking Amazon music and the Android central app.

I think that is an issue, however I am still not getting the battery life reviews have been getting....
The first few reviews talked about amazing battery life with SOT of 6+ hrs on this phone but in my opinion it is worse than the OnePlus 3 I used for a few days. Yesterday I got just under 4 hrs of screen on time, taking my phone off the charger at 6:30am and plugging it in at 11pm with about 4% battery left. I am using GSAM Battery Monitor and Phone Radio is taking a solid 37% of my battery, is that normal? The phone does show it has a weaker signal than any of my last phones in all familiar locations but I haven't actually noticed a difference in internet speed (actually getting 40mb pretty regularly) or call quality/reception. Today I am at 63% battery with the phone being unplugged 10 hrs 47 min and only 1hr and 16 minutes of SOT. No apps stand out as using a lot of the battery with App Usage being at 1%.

Today I am at 63% battery with the phone being unplugged 10 hrs 47 min and only 1hr and 16 minutes of SOT. No apps stand out as using a lot of the battery with App Usage being at 1%.

What those 6+ hrs SOT stories don't tell you is that they gimp the phone ie turn off most if not all background processes such as: location, push emails, anything that has a hook to the web.
I mean I can always get 5+hour turning off all my smartphone services and just having my screen on to flipping around looking at locally stored stuff.
An average best for me is usually going to bed with 4+ hrs of SOT by midnight. @15% remaining and that was before the wake lock I mentioned above.

Yeah I was right at 4 hours SOT at 1am with the phone unplugged since 6:30am that morning and still 22% battery left, that is fine for me. I had everything on, including GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi

That setting is here:
Settings > Location > (menu - three dots in upper right corner) > Scanning
From here you can disable Wi-Fi Scanning and Bluetooth Scanning.
I do not know if this helps battery life though - I just now tried it myself.
Yeah I get horrible battery life too and it doesn't show any apps using alot ): , if I'm lucky I get 4hr sot

How is 4 hours horrible? 4 to 5 hours is really good battery and is a standard for any flagship device.
I don't get people that want 6 hours of screen time. Don't y'all have anything to do through the day? Spending 6 hours a day staring at a screen cant be good for anyone.

I guess I got spoiled with battery life on my old Huawei mate 8 and other phones with amazing battery.
I've been getting over 5 hours SOT pretty consistently for the past week. The battery life is way more consistent than my Nexus 6p was, and seems to last noticeably longer. I also don't worry about topping up when I get home from work if I really need to (or if I watch YouTube for 3 hours after I get home) because of how fast it charges, even if you use while charging. I'm very pleased with battery life overall.
