I had the note 3 and ended up having to sell it because of it's weak antenna. I take call for the Hospital and can get in big trouble if I miss a call! I read in a article that the S7 is using Qualcomms new signal boost technology, and wanted to see how it is doing so far for the people who already have their phones. Thanks!

Excellent question. Was wondering myself
I'm in the exynos market so won't have access to Qualcomm signal boost (correct me if wrong)
If anyone can comment then specify if Snapdragon or exynos!
Thanks!
Here is where it mentions it. It doesn't say anything about exynos though. Sorry!
True Connectivity with TruSignal
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge incorporate*both Qualcomm TruSignal Antenna Boost and TruSignal Multi-Antenna Boost technologies, engineered to compensate for signal impediments by using more than one antenna. These solutions are designed to improve call reliability, data speeds, and call coverage without the need to increase transmit power consumption.

speaking of exynos vs snapdragon, my initial understanding was the latter is only available in american/mainland china markets due to these markets' demand for CDMA. apparently, the S7 edge's in hong kong (which generally uses the same WCDMA as in european, singapore and the rest of the world) is also getting the snapdragon variant. is there an easy way to confirm this, i can't see this in settings==>about
Not sure, maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject can chime in.
No one has any feedback on the reception strength on the American Qualcomm variant?

That's really disappointing that the UK versions of the S7 (Exynos) won't have the TruSignal technology. The main problem I have with the S6E is the rubbish signal quality. I really hope the S7 is better or it will drive me nuts!
It doesn't mention it, but they still might have improved both versions. I am not even sure if this new Qualcomm TruSignal will even make a difference. That why I was hoping someone with a Qualcomm variant could give an idea of their experience so far.
I did some searching, and it appears that the LG v10 was the first to use this new technology. If you do a Web search on the reception of the V10, it seems like people have had very good results with it. I didn't find hardly anyone who complains about it, which cannot be said about many samsung phones.
I am coming from a Galaxy S5 and I can say that the antenna is much (MUCH) better on the S7. I live in an area that is on the edge of connectivity and most of the time I would lose connection in my house (had to rely on Wi-Fi Calling). Looking at my phone right now shows all but one bar lit up on the connection and I even have LTE (which was NEVER an option inside of the house). I noticed immediately that it was better but didn't know anything about the reported signal boost technology until I read this thread. That's clearly not buzz-words and advertising.... It works!
^ Thank you for the feedback! That is great to hear! Yeah I am surprised that they are not advertising this more!
Anyone else have any feedback?

You can call customer care and say you have bad signal at home. Don't get the signal booster, ask for the signal tower. It's basically a mini cell tower that'll connect to your WiFi I believe and you'll get super good signal! Better than the booster

I have an S7E, new as of yesterday, and coming from an S4. The reception is about the exact same. I get the same quality and strength of signal so far. I know it is a big upgrade, but I got to say that I like the phone but not impressed.
Hi
I live in Germany and i am totally exited about the Receiver Perfomance of my new S7 Edge ! The best by far for the German LTE Band on 1800 and 2600 Mhz (T-Mobile Germany).
I have an Note 3 and S6 Edge Plus to compere. LTE Signal is improved by 5-6 dB ! At my home i receive 4g+ Network wit -100 dB best on S6 Edge+ and Note 3 ( Shows 1 Bar).
With the S7 Edge i'ts -95 dB and 2 Bars contantly ! Same at my work Place ! Same with the WIFI Module even better and Stable Reception ! Best Receiver on Samsung i have oned.
By the way the s7 Edge here in Germany has not the Snapdragon 820 it's an Exynos chip and no quickcharge 3.0 only 2.0 for Europa.
It is good as most Samsung devices , but not as an iPhone. In my office i had no signal as I haven't with my s6 too. But with an iPhone I can have calls!
At least ,no drop calling with s7 edge Exynos
I am very happy with the reception. Compared to my S6 Edge it is much better. There are more bars of signal bth at home and at work and it holds onto a 4G signal in places the other phone would drop to 3G or Edge.

I've been using the HTC One for the last couple of days deciding between it and my Xperia Z.
This phone is the best I've used and IMO feels better than XZ in several ways.
However, the signal strength in low reception areas is very unstable. Compared with the XZ it is poor which I am not happy about it as I was planning to return the XZ and keep this. On XZ I get 3 bars of 4G and it stays that way with no dropped calls. On the HTC it's 1 bar and then switches to 4 bars 3g (on XZ full bars on 3g) then back to 4g. I've had calls drop mid conversation 7 times in 2 days! This is mainly in lower signal areas including indoors.
I have till today to return the XZ but I am honestly not sure what to do. Even the earpiece sound on HTC is better than XZ..hmm..
Do any of you know if HTC are any good with updates regarding signal stability?
If it's something fixable then I'd rather keep the HTC One. Other than this it's a flawless smartphone. So frustrated the signal reception is like this.
Signal seems slightly better than my Galaxy S3
I have great signal with this phone better than my nexus4 & iPhone.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
my signal is so much better than my htc sensation, tested with the same sim card and htc one has 2 bars better constantly.
How many of you people saying "it's better than my..." are talking about 4G signal strength?
Are you guys on 4g too if I may ask?
I'm baffled as too why this is happening when directly compared to the XZ. Maybe it's only in low signal areas.
I've kept it on 3g only and performance is more stable and holding on to signal better. There is no question in my experience that XZ holds on to 4g signal much better.
Haven't decided what to do yet as I much prefer the HTC but the 4g issue is a real shame.
Most probably know this, but just FYI -- often radios will fall back to HSPA from HSPA+ to save juice when no data is being used. This might be in play here.
I couldn't bring myself to return the HTC so will return the Sony.
The other advantages to me could not be over looked especially the processor, speakers, display and sense.
However I really hope the signal on 4g will improve with an update. I'm pretty sure this was addressed with other phones in the past.
This video I saw also show some of the advantages of HTC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqhUGpSd3mc&feature=youtube_gdata_player:
I was using my friends HTC ONE In canada and he'd constantly have service (like 2 bars) as he was on LTE. LTE isn't available in all areas and where we live we get 3 bars of LTE if we're lucky. So all he did was turn LTE off and it was full bars as usual. The amount of bars we had with LTE was for the most part better than my Iphone5 and my other friends samsung galaxy s3.
I don't know about 4g signal but 2g/3g signal is far better than any phone I have ever had, my local tesco express is a killer for reception on every phone I have had except the one x which held up well but had like 2 bars 3 if I was lucky, with my one I get 4 bars and even 5 bars sometimes as I walk around the store and I have had the phone a week now and no signal or gps or wifi problems at all.
I was having connection issues even on 3G/H+ so what ive done is just turn off LTE and just kept it on GSM/WCDMA as i dont even have a 4G LTE plan and that has seemed to fix my issue so it may help other non-LTE users having signal issues.

Yes you are right with regards to this. As stated earlier I'm keeping the phone but this clearly demonstrates an issue with 4G that needs to be addressed. I tried the demo unit in store again and disabled wifi; same thing with 4G performance.
In poor signal areas I lose reception totally and concerned I have a faulty phone, where as the iphone gets 2bars, I lose it all together on the one. Was in the meeting today and everyone had reception but me, however it sometimes came back with one bar...
If the signal is strong, I have no problems, is where there is weak signal I get issues. Anybody else confirm the same?
Oh sorry I misread. Other reviews have mentioned it is fine with LTE.
I finally made my return but returned the HTC and kept the Sony. Obviously the HTC betters the Sony in some ways but I need reliable call quality.
I don't care what HTC call the antenna but in my experience it does not perform as well as others.
I pay more for LTE and it bothered me to keep losing calls.
To be honest this is mostly in low signal areas but regardless the Sony and the Lumia held on much better to a weak 4g and 3g signal.

Yes it's mostly with 4g only and most noticeable with call switching to 3g. I too am with EE and got it from p4u. If you don't make many calls I think it's ok. Honestly though I wouldn't trust it in low signal areas and say you need an urgent email. In my opinion the radio is not the best. Not sure if it's h/w or s/w fault but even when I sowed it to the guys in p4u inside a shopping centre it had the worst signal compared to others (4g). However WiFi is excellent.
You may have an issue with antenna connection to the motherboard as a result of production tolerances. Try to see if you can test another unit to verify that the issue exists.

3) are you with rogers?

Just wanted to add that the poor signal reception experienced is with regards to the UK 4G Lte.
This is currently with the EE network which operates the LTE on 1800 MHz.
I have tested it against the Sony Z, Nokia Lumia 920 in the same spot and the reception was inferior and overall poor.
In the store I tested it against a S3 (4g) and iPhone 5 all on the same network and it showed lower reception in 4g.
Please note that the problem is with 4g and functions well on 3g and WiFi is excellent as previously stated.
Hey guys just wondering if there are any exynos users who have T-Mobile in the USA (Atlanta for me). Im using the n910U and i get a 4G signal pretty much everywhere but out of nowhere it will drop to 1 bar, and then drop signal all together. Its getting quite annoying as it was said that the unlocked version was supposed to work with T-Mobiles LTE bands. It also happens when using the download booster which is also a pain. Any suggestions on improving the signal? thanks in advance.
Bump. Anyone have any advice to remedy this?
Im planning on buying the sm-n910u aswell but I want to use it with metro pcs which should be using the same network as tmobile, I dunno if ur problem is the phone or network hiccups but im hoping it will work here in nyc

A few things to look at
Try 3g only awhile, you may have a marginal 4g signal and the phone keeps switching back and forth
Try to find out which bands are coming off each tower in your area as well as tower location
You are one of the first to use the new intel modem in the usa for this phone
Keep us posted
Back in the HSPA days I had nothing but international devices and frequently experienced what you described. All the carriers have different networking h/w and topology because they all grew through acquisitions. If I left my home town where I had decent coverage when my flight would land in another region I'd have to reboot my phone to get it to connect to the network. When doing speed tests with friends using "real" AT&T phones their phones were always faster and more reliable. It was only an issue less than 10% of the time so it wasn't a big deal (to me). For better or worse the carrier's optimize the radios in their phone for their specific networks. So, at least in theory, a carrier phone (used on the carrier that provided it) is always going to deliver the best performance.
I got my N910U from Hong Kong, and my 4G signal is as weak as hell, though i'm a China Unicom user.
My iPhone 5s has much better signal than it, same SIM same network.:crying:
There must be something very wrong with the Exynos version of Note 4.
Hope Samsung could fix this ASAP.
Yea it happens pretty randomly in my house and when i leave to drive around town. The signal will be 4 bars on 4G then suddenly just drop connection all together for about 10 seconds. its a real drain on the battery when it does it so often. Im wondering if its a software issue with the radio in the n910u? Since we have root already we can load a different radio on it and see if it improves?
Got the same thing going on with my 910U on Fido Network in Canada. I must note it seems like it doesn't affect performance except for a network speed, no issues during the calls but 4G signal is at 1 bar most of the time unless I'm outside in downtown or something. I must note 3G signal was almost always at full strength. Not sure what is going on here but I thing we really could use some modem update here lol

I also have hongkong N910U model and facing signal issue on regular basis. When Problem appear I can not receive calls anymore and when try to make call , signal disappear altogether. After I retry a couple of times then it works fine but only solution is a restart to get the full strength. it feels like it is a software issue rather hardware but still keeping my device in observation. I feel when I enable power save mode only after that this problem appears. trying not to enable power save mode and test the issue for few days.
Kindly also share your own experiences to solve this issue temporarily.

Swapped the note 4 again.
The third one and a new simcard fixed the issue !!
3 to 4 bars signal strength/
I have this problem since yesterday, it seem like the Note 4 is dropping the Sim card. In panama we have a provider that will need to register the sim card with names and stuff but i never did and every time i turn off the phone it will pop out that menu from the sim card.
Yesterday it was popping out every 20mins so i assume that the note 4 is dropping the Sim card. i didn't have that problem when i started using it. its been only a week and this problem came out. I got no signal, with the circle and a dash to full signal and drop signal back... all day, I can't even play online or watch youtube or other things. But it work fine with wifi!
I changed providers no more issues for me. Gonna change back next week and a new simcard also

I see a lot of people saying the reception isn't good, but I feel it's better than any other phone I've had to date? Regardless of what the signal bars show or the db shows, I can get signal where I never have before.

My Axon 7 blows away my Zenfone 2.
My axon 7 beat the pants off my Nexus 6p when I tried using speedtest.net. Both wifi and lte were significantly faster. Also using the US model. B27 seems to have improved things even further. No complains at all!
I'm using A2017U in europe, LTE band 3. My previous phone was Xperia Z and comparing Axon 7 to it, cell and wifi reception is better in any way of using (2.4 and 5ghz, 3G and LTE). So no problem with wifi and cell reception on mine A2017U. Very satisfied.
Ditto

Ditto on both points. I also previously used the Note3 and I get a super signal with the Axon 7, even in places where the Note was hit/miss. Love the phone.
Troll thread. It's obvious that a sizeable minority of owner have reception problems and telling people that 'I'm alright Jack' is unhelpful at best and smug and weird at worst.
Idea for another thread:
Lots of smartphone owners complain of easily cracked screens. I threw mine under a bus and it's fine.

I don't agree, not as good as my Moto X or my Idol 3 on band 17 LTE or HSPA 850mhz. It's the lower bands it has an issue with.

I have good reception for LTE in most places. WiFi is very good. However, when it comes to radio signal for LTE this is the worst phone of all that I have ever owned. I do not get involved in all sorts of tests but according to the Signal strength mine is usually about -5 higher than all the others. It is acceptable in most places as I live in a large city with good reception on AT&T. However, as I related on the ZTE forum I was at an assembly the other day and I was the only person with an Axon 7 in the whole place. Every other person had either an iPhone (most popular) or some other Android like a Samsung Galaxy. In the outer hallway I had a good signal, but when I went into the main auditorium all I got was a flashing red notification light letting me know that I had ZERO signal, while my wife's Moto X Pure and my daughters shattered iPhone 6 both had very good reception. The Moto is on T-Mobile and the iPhone is on Verizon. I do not think the carrier had anything to do with this issue. Clearly there is a problem with the Axon 7 when it comes the LTE signal strength. I am beginning to think it may be hardware related somehow and unable to be repaired with a software update ...unless they boost the signal strength through software which will also take a toll on battery longevity. Maybe they have the antennas positioned poorly inside the phone?? So I am trying to patiently wait to see what ZTE accomplished with their next update. But if they cannot fix the LTE signal strength then I will have no choice but to move on to another phone. Even though most of the time I am using WiFi, having a phone that cannot communicate in low signal areas when every other phone can, is not acceptable.
On TMO I'm getting a 2x stronger signal than my S7 Edge. Quite impressed. The Wi-Fi signal is much stronger also. I can stream music in my shed from the Wi-Fi ap in the house. The S7E couldn't even detect the signal.
We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 8's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.
I am blown away by the LTE speed in my area! My previous ATT branded LG V20 couldn't top 75Mbps, so this is a leap for me with LTE+
I am very curious about signal strength in areas that don't have blasting towers in the background. My old S3 always had poor signal. I was blown away by how much better my soon to be defunct Note 4 was at picking up and holding a signal. I hope that the Note 8 continues that fine tradition.

I have Verizon and I have also noticed it switches between LTE and LTE+, I assumes the LTE+ is better speeds but never saw any sort of LTE+ on my LG V20 either.
My signal blows compared to my S7Edge, but it's on par with my S8+.

I will be honest, the signal blows me away. I have never gotten any bars of signal inside of the manufacturing plant I work in, but with this phone I have nearly full service . ALL previous phones I have used, which have all been ATT branded mind you, have failed in here. I can sit at my desk here and browse the web like its no big deal. Old phones I had to run out to the sidewalk to use it, for anything... I don't understand why this is SO vastly better now, but I cannot complain. Part of me wonders if it has to do with the ATT CSC layer - which is why I have worried about flashing that to this unlocked device whenever it shows up in the wild. It is exceptional right now, everywhere I go! :good:
Using tmo.
Fastest speed I've ever seen on a phone.
i would have a question to add for everyone posting. are your phones unlocked or not and/or are they from the original region your service is on.
thanks.
Went from 90/50 mb to 150/50. S7e to n8tmo. Same location.

I'm on a very old grandfathered unlimited data plan. Previously up to my Note 4, I was only able to get 4G speeds. But since getting my Note 8, I'm all of sudden able to get an LTE connection (while still on the old grandfathered plan). Take a look at this one freak result:
Im on T-Mo and also on a grandfathered plan with unlimited data. As of this morning, the download speed has gotten less than 3mbps
No idea why. I have downloaded about 50 apps this morning since I was just setting up my Note8, but all was going fast and suddenly turtle slow.
I was disabling a ton of things in Package Disabler, but not sure what it could possibly be.
It gets better signal run my S7 Edge. In areas where the S7 Edge may go to Emergency Calls Only, the Note8 will hold 1-2bars consistently, no missed calls or deoppe calls.
Luckily I have now moved to a new office which has great signal to.
Got this speed from Reliance JIO India. Never seen such speeds before.

Buddy, check closer. WiFi was on when I took screenshot. That session was done when WiFi was off.
Very bad signal reception for me
I am using Airtel, Jio and Reliance GSM 4G sims in India and I have compared signal strength of Note 8 with Redmi Note 4, Nexus 6P and LYF Flame 1 mobiles.
And I found Note 8 to be having the weakest signal reception strength. Same pair of sims when used simultaneously on these phones, (not nexus 6P as it is singal sim) Redmi Note 4 and LYF Flame 1 never had any issues with signal reception. But with Note 8 both Reliance GSM 4G and Jio sims are having almost no LTE signals and for Airtel where other phones show all 5 bars, note 8 have 3-4 bars.
I am not sure if this is the problem with just my phone or others as well in India.
I'm with ragavbpl.
My 7+ and X show me full bars, my unlocked N8 barely 2-3.
Using a combination of 3 different carriers, slots changed out frequently, locations. But is the same everywhere.
4G drops off and goes to H+ (what is that anyway...2G?) or even E, very frequently, when the other phones on the same network have full 4G.
This causes pages not to load, just when you need them to, emails and chats to stop or get delayed, more often than not.
I wonder if this is a carrier issue? Or a phone one?
The LTE speeds on my N950N is amazingly fast when compared to my old N910C
With Freedom Mobile, I'm using Open Signal, to see what cell tower it's connected to, as well as other towers in my area. Using this tool, tests your data throughput at the tower site itself. The signal in my whole neighborhood is weak so I'm connected to WiFi (and using VoWiFi as a result -- "Voice-Over-WiFi"). Normally the signal will alternate towers from 12-15KM away and this results in dropped calls no matter what device I use -- they need to work on getting some microsites, or sharing more of the existing infrastructure (there's an underutilized tower site in the strip mall right next to me even).

netwrk speed is too slow
I am thinking on buying the s10+ and for that reason I tested the wifi signal against my....note 3 lite.
Surprisingly, the note 3 lite found more available wifi in contrast to the s10+.
The s10+ is the Exynos version.
I will buy the SD855 version though.
What are your thoughts on the wifi strength you have?
Thank you
I can compare only with mate 10 pro (previous device) and with tablet mediapad m5 Pro and compared to them seems s10+ (exynos) has worst WiFi signal. So more far room where other devices had half signal s10 is showing just above minimum and disconnecting sometimes... But speed seems same when connected.

Where my wife has 4G I have H. Where she has a workable wifi signal I have nothing. 9+ vs 10+ btw.
Wifi sucks if I'm sat in my living room it's good signal move few meters away and struggles to get 1 bar it switches to 4g yet my wifes Nokia 6.1 has solid wifi even down the garden , not to mention weak signal bars hope they fix soon starting to get frustrating for £1000 phone its lame

U know how bad is wifi signal?
This phone has some smart **** so it wont even show networks with low signal, you need any 3d party wifi scanner app to show and connect to what he thinks are low signal networks.
And yeah, in general it has very weak wifi signal compared to other phones.
So, why should I buy this phone at all?
Hello, I am bumping this thread.
Does anyone notice this?
Any differences between the SD version with the Exynos in regards with the wifi signal?

Don't if you are worried of what wifi-networks the phone can see. Why that matter I don't understand.
I've compared my SD s10+ side by side with my old galaxy s8 and the s10+ gets 5dB better signal.

I don't think anybody here cares if you buy the phone or not, unless somebody in the thread works directly for Samsung.
The Wi-Fi signal is good enough that's it's never been an issue for me, and I use the Snapdragon model by the way.
Never heard anyone making a phone purchase decision on Wi-Fi signal strength before, but whatever floats your boat.

I'm 40, and that's never been a selling point for me. I've always just assumed WiFi would work as it should, and every phone I've bought, it has.
