So, like many of you, I got my S7 Edge yesterday afternoon from the pre-order. I previously had a LG V10, and I could regularly get better than 100mbps down with the speedtest.net app, on my home tower (as well as many other towers). I saw 135x40 several times on that phone (Band 4 tower, obviously). Since getting the S7 Edge, I haven't been able to break about 40mbps down. It seems like it's less than half the download speed of the V10, in every scenario. I did a *#0011#, and although it is connected to Band 4 on a 20MHz channel, the carrier aggregation almost always says "not config". I did see it aggregate with Band 12 5MHz channel once, but it didn't seem to help the speed test much. Are the carrier aggregation capabilities of this phone less than the V10? I can't figure out why the speed tests would be so much worse. I would think that everything would be the same or better than the V10... Is it possible that moving my SIM from the V10 to the S7E (instead of using a new SIM) could've caused this?
Obviously I'm not doing anything that requires more than 20mbps of throughput, so this isn't really a deal breaker. However, it is disappointing and a bit concerning.
[EDIT: This was fixed by changing the APN from IPV6 to IPV4 (see post below). Thanks to Chakra for the advice.]
You could just be validating how poor the notoriously bad Samsung radios are compared to other manufacturers.
Just change your apn settings, add a new one, use the exact same as it is, only ipv4 not ipv6, mine went from 2MB down to over 50.
Wouldn't this mainly be relying on the SD820's modem then? I don't think Samsung designed that in the SD820's.

Ironically, the tower shows up about 3db stronger than the V10, across the board. So it probably has a better antenna than the V10, but maybe a worse radio. Interesting.

This may be the ticket! I just did this, and got a result of 60x36. I'm at work right now, and this tower is pretty saturated... I'll try it tonight at home and see if I can get over 100 again. Thanks for the tip! I'll try to remember to report back the results tonight.
This did it! Just got 131x36 on my home tower. Thanks!

Lg v10 and s7 edge on tmo both use Snapdragon processors AND modems. So that theory is incorrect.
If it makes you feel any better, my data works fine, but my S7 wonks out about 75% of the time on wifi. My 50mb up/down connection works fine with my V10 (and EVERY other phone I have) but the S7 Edge is at 0.25 mb/s about 75% of the time. Working out a return/exchange now.
Our note 5's we got early took awhile to "sync" up. Give it a week

You might try putting your phone on a strict 5ghz frequency rather than 2.4ghz. A lot of the time that can fix WIFI issues such as these.

APN is unlocked on this phone with T-Mobile, just go to mobile networks, open access points, and on the top left is add, then fill out, save then choose. I didnt delete the old one.
Done forget to add Default, mms, supl, hipri, dun, admin, under APN type.
I just copied the other one and that worked fine.

I have it even worse. My data caps out at 1mbps down and like 0.1 up. My 2.4ghz wifi caps out at 0.25/15mbps (wtf?). My 5ghz wifi SOMETIMES hits about 70/15, but 75% of the time it's stuck at 0.25mbps like you. Restarting, changing the apn settings, swapping out the sim card (I just activated the one that came with the phone since I had been using the one that was in my gs6), etc. made no difference. My gs6 works at full speed, so its not a network issue.

Yeah, tech support said a few updates were expected before the 11th, so hopefully this **** gets fixed. I'd call support to have them note your account, just in case you want to exchange and they don't have stock.

Do you guys have any issues with slow data connectivity? my data had been really slow for over two months.. like edge speeds. it never was like that before. I'm in a good 3g area and never had the issue till about two months ago. I've tried resetting the phone multiple times. tried numerous roms and diferrent radios. have the latest radio right now. got a new sim. got the network refreshed on my phone. still the same.anyone else dealing with this?
i have also, tmo is no help.
T mobile has data throttling and if you have gone over their magic number (not sure the exact number) they will lower your data to edge speeds
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
The magic number is 5GB, IE if you go over 5GB of data usage a month, you get throttled down to EDGE speeds.
i forgot to mention i haven't went over my cap. i never do especially now since downloading anything takes forever. your right tmobile is no help. I've called 4 times all they do is give me the run around or there techs are idiots. i miss my old speeds. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. do i got to buy a brand new phone. i dunno..
I haven't even used 2 gb, tech support gave me the voice stream wap but it didn't help. my tp2 is faster right now.
i'm thinking it's the new rom...
Its NOT edge speeds they throttle you at. Its around 64kbps. Just faster than dial up. If they throttled me at edge speeds, i would be a lot happier. I know, i am throttled right now. (Well, they think i am. I got around it easily)

Hey guys, I need some help.
I've been using my HD2 for two months now with little to no issue.
I've installed a couple of different Android ROMs with success, and enjoyed using them.
Recently I tried one that I didn't like, and decided to restore my phone to factory WinMO ROM.
Since then, I've had HORRIBLE data speeds...
I'm talking 50-60Kb/s where I used to get at LEAST 500Kb/s...
What on earth happened??
I'm currently on stock WinMO ROM with nothing flashed except for HSPL.
Can anyone help?

Well, I'm using stock Radio right now... 2.08.50.08_2
When I was on Android, I was using 2.15.50.14. That was the same one I had been using all along.
Makes no sense.
I actually did a Task29 and formatted the memory card, too. That should have erased everything.
Oddly enough, when I restored the phone to its original WinMO ROM, it had somehow remembered my Web2Go favorites.

You know, every time you change a build/ROM it may change the DNS settings. Have you double checked those? Most builds use a default Google DNS, but check your carrier, most likely T-Mobile. My thumbnail has those settings that can be found in the system/build.prop file; edit/add to look like mine.

What's your signal strength? Did you already mention that you're getting "H"?
I know you flashed the WMRom, but what Radio is it? Have you tried changing Radios after flashing stock Rom? I'm seeing a lot of different opinions on Roms from 2.10-2.15, but 2.10 seems to be the front-runner. I'll keep checking...
If you go to the settings tab > wireless controls > phone > band ; are network type and band frequency set on auto?
You can also change APN settings, check for alternate APN's. That's all I've found through Google and XDA...

I set my APN to match yours, and edited my build.prop to include your #DNS settings.
This is what I get for complaining that 500kb/s is not fast enough.
Maybe my pain can help you. I have been having the same terrible data speeds on both my HD2 and Mytouch Slide phones for almost a year. T-Mobile kept telling me to get new sim cards. That never helped for very long. Replaced all the phones and no change. My data slowed down to 50-60k just like yours. Dropped calls all over the place. Data stalling. T-Mobile gave up and said it was structural interference. I called BS. They even offered to cancel my contracts with no charge to me. I called in 2 days ago and spoke with someone in Tier 2 support who had a clue finally. She said I had old sims. I called BS. But she informed me that T-Mobile has new UICC SIMS that are designed for the 3.5G network they now run. Long story short I went to my local T-Mobile store and asked for 2 new UICC SIMS and that fixed the issue. I am now getting almost 4mbits down and 1.7mbits up on both lines with only 2 bars of signal in my house. No data stalls, no dropped calls, and the quality is better. Here is some info on wikipedia about the new UICC cards. They are basically a system on a chip and assist with the 3G communications stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UICC
Here is a whole thread about it in the T-Mobile forum with pictures of old vs new sim towards the bottom. http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTouch-4G/Updating-Sim-Card-Does-it-really-matter/m-p/546631

No worries, I was actually referring to WM on all accounts, since that's what you said that you were having a problem with. Searching through Google and XDA lead me to those questions and recommendations. The last post seems reasonable, I would check on that. Also, T-Mobile changed there DATA specs, and I saw that they lowered the bar to 5gs and a speed cap after, maybe you were pulling some speed doing something and they capped it? Don't know, but check on the SIM card deal, see what you got.

I checked... I have a new one. It has the "TM9073" on it.
Thanks, tho. THat was a good thought....
I actually got a text message this morning from T-Mobile:
"Free T-Mobile Message: Due to the amount of data you have used this billing cycle, your data speed will be slowed the remainder of the cycle."
So, that probably explains my 50-60kb/s speeds right now.
It still doesn't explain my typical 500kb/s, though...

It's probably because you hadn't reached the cap, yet. This is to prevent people to use phone as a modem and have internet basically for free, and not use their mobile broadban service. After the "billing cycle" it should go back up.
Hi, not a big problem as I am normally on wifi but I've noticed that my GSII is constantly dropping of HSDPA every few seconds and if I do a speed test it only gets around 300kbps.
Now I have an LG Optimus on the same network, same room and that stays on HSDPA and gets around 1800kbps on downloads.
Any idea what would cause this?

Yes I think it's a phone issue as my HTC Desire and LG Optimus are both working fine.
Hmmm. I hope this can be sorted with a software update.

I think it's a network restriction. People in another thread were having similar problems with buying the handset and the contract separately meaning the data plan they were on was only at 300kbps.
If you've got another handset that gets a higher speed, switch the sim cards and see if that changes anything.
My phone will only download around 360kbps but will upload at 1mb, so puzzled as to why it would be a network restriction (hoping it is as I'm not happy and still within my 14 day cooling period) ringing o2 later...

No, it's not a network restriction. Not on Three anyway. I've just taken the PAYG SIM out of my LG which is getting around 1800kbps and put it in the Galaxy SII and it now only gets 64kbps!!! It's constantly flickering between 3G and HSDPA. It's definitely a phone issue.
i had posted in the other thread about how it switches down to 3G when it's not being used and instantly switch over to H+ when in use. There were no performance issues
Also on AT&T network, when it's first started/activated it took a little bit of time before network performance improved both on day one and when i switched over to an unlimited data plan
Oh I forgot to mention. I reported this issue to Samsung yesterday but don't hold your breath!
The man I spoke to didn't seem to understand what I was saying and when I advised him that there were many similar problems and issues being faced by people on this forum, he simply stated that he had never heard of the site. I gave him the web address but doubt they will ever look in to it.
If your facing this issue, then I would ring them and report it. That's the only way they are going to find out about the issue.
Normal behaviour for it to sit on 3G, only switches to H+ once it's in full flow.
This usually impacts speedtests and such.
Best way to test is to download a file off a fast server.
Same thing use to happen with my Desire.

I have numerous 3G devices here and none of them cuts of HSDPA so erratically. If I start to stream AudioGalaxy on my LG Android, the HSDPA stays on as does my Huawei MiFi. The Galaxy S II is dropping connection every few seconds.
It doesn't make sense for two Android phones in the same room with the same network to get completely different speeds. Maybe a small difference but to get one having 1800kbps and the other 64kbps shows there is a problem.
I've just updated the phone to KE2 and it's made no difference. Will have to wait to see what Samsung say.

thanks, could be the lower signal , SGS2 being unable to pick it up reliably.
Please update this thread with whatever Sam says. I think I am experiencing same problem (unstable data signal in areas with weaker coverage)
Sitting next to my sister in the car and noticed her S4 has full bars meanwhile my G2 has 1 and has 1x for data and she has a strong connection to LTE. I checked status and idk which relates to service but my dBm was 110 while hers was in the 90s and my asu was 1 and hers was 45. My service has been pretty terrible everywhere. I am running green devils latest CM nightly and I believe I flashed the latest radio in the development thread. Please help! Maybe bad antenna. Also check which mode you have set for network, gsm,2g etc.
also note that some phones show levels differently, their multiple bars could be same as yours.

Must be something strange, I set the mobile network to LTE (recommended) and it's weird I've been trying out different modems too flashing those, the phone will boot up and have LTE, then it will disappear after a minute or so and I will literally never see LTE again where my town I have LTE EVERYWHERE.

yeah that sounds like the low reception bug some people have been talking about.
you try disabling fast dormancy. See if it works, might end up using more power though. Also try disabling the power saving option. Lte is less battery friendly so phone could be forcing itself to lower power mode when not using data. you should see it come back the moment you use data, if thats it.
Also check if ypur apn settings are correct.
Also check your provider. They might be limiting you on their end.

yeah that sounds like the low reception bug some people have been talking about.
you try disabling fast dormancy. See if it works, might end up using more power though. Also try disabling the power saving option. I know for me reception is fine till I put my case on... in strong cell areas all is good no noticeable effect but at home where it's a fringe area the case comes off... its only a thin featherlite case to protect against scratches

disable power saving options
try disabling fast dormancy, check apn etc
I love my 6t it is blazing, The problem I'm having is my signals and data speeds since upgrade from op3. Normally I would average -55 to -80 Max, that's with cloudy sky's bad weather. I live in between the 2 largest cities in the state of Louisiana, Signals are blazing fast normally. I don't know if it's just the radio of the 6t but it's horrible these are my screenshots standing outside in my driveway.

Are you dropping calls?
Is your data speed suffering?

No dropped calls it hangs for about a second when dialing. the problem is data, at&t and TMobile says I'm not throttled an no bad network congestion. According to them my speeds should be above 20mbps and higher but I'm lucky to get 1.2mbps.

That sounds like some network, signal issues.

It's AT&T network my friend. I'm using Verizon with 0 issue while traveling.
Let me back up my statement: my friend often can't load YouTube, while I video chat with my family members while traveling together in a car.

Yes it does, at&t and TMobile say nothing is wrong. Something is wrong if I drop from 30+Mbps to Barely 2 Mbps.

Never had issues with at&t or my TMobile service before, what is strange is the data speeds being identical. That has never happened my TMobile service always been faster than my at&t service. I'll have time this weekend to root and play around with network guru to lock bands see if that's helps.
Are you using a bad casing maybe?

I'm using the case that came with the device, so nothing bulky or thick. Once I get back home later I'll root and play around with Network Signal Guru an try locking bands see if that helps.

Or try to go to a different carrier shop and ask if you can test out their speeds. See if it makes a difference. Compare it to the employees that work there. If yours is still slow, maybe you have a faulty device.

Im thinking the bands could be locked to one instead of connecting to multiple bands. I hope it's not faulty device but it is worth a shot, I have TMobile service and at&t and they are the same speed for some reason. My TMobile speeds range from 50-70Mbps and at&t 30-45Mbps, Both are locked at 1.2Mbps. I use at&t service for work and TMobile for Personal use. I have the 13 Model so I could test with Verizon.

Let's say it isn't the network. The next step would be to get a new sim card. If that doesn't work, ask your provider to set up your OP6T as a LTE only device.
Well I managed to fix my problem with my network, rooted check network guru everything was fine all bands worked. So I googled stock files flash via fastboot all is good now. Both my networks are back to normal, guess it was just something with the radio. :good:
