Porting CyanogenMod to Desire 820s MT6752 - Desire 820 General

I came across CM12.1 rom for Lenovo K3 Note on needrom. Considering that K3 have the same chipset as ours, I've been thinking that it can be ported to our device.
I've tried to port it past few days but failed. Any developer would come up and try to port it?

What have you done? Device tree something else?

Nope. Just changing libs here and there, according to this guide. I'm still noob in porting roms so I can't do much.

Yes. I'm actually having problem in repacking system.new.dat files. The same as the guy face here. Finding the solution require me to learn Linux. I'm still new at Linux, so I need some time to learn.
Other than that is okay (perhaps). I followed some other guides like http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-how-to-port-lollipop-based-roms-t3223938 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2707438.
Oh and one more thing, the rom is ported by @Cheshkin. I've tried to seek his permission to port the rom through pm, but still no answer. So I cannot post the rom here (if I done porting it) without his permission.

Let's wait for the response then

Would be graet to see CM to release this device's potential. Especially since HTC is taking it's sweet time with 6.0 update and 5.1 was officially skipped.
Anyway if you would need some testers I would gladly help.

Good news! The permission has been granted. I will try my best to port this rom.

And what with 820n?

I already did, but I can't repack it. So instead I tried looking for other roms while staying away from dat files - cm12.1 ulefone be touch 2 and blisspop k3 note.
Now I'm having problems with the kernel. The rom won't boot at all, the worse I can't get the dmesg.
I don't have much free time to explore kernels in detail. If anybody can help me with porting the kernel, it would be a pleasure.

I will try porting the kernel using the kitkat kernel as base when I find time

Unfortunately, I did not succeed, I could not even get into the bootanimation. Hope someone can help us.
I am now trying to squeeze the Lollipop system partition so that we can liberate some more free space for the internal storage, hope it works

That would be the coolest thing???

Hello guys hope you have been doing great, Was too busy with school, exams and stuff.
Good news!! I have finally managed to boot into CM 12.1 after I successfully ported it today.
It's lightning fast but has some bugs: USB, bluetooth and Sim don't work currently and it needs some resizing of the framework images.
I will try to work on it until Sunday and hopefully someone else can take over with modifying it

[KITCHEN] Basic ROM kitchen for new Eris cooks [PC/Mac]

Hi guys,
Lately I have been developing a kitchen to help ordinary people learn how to build their own ROM on HTC-based Android devices. It allows you to do basic things such as rooting a shipped ROM, adding apps2sd, modifying the task killer memory threshold, etc.
Today I added some settings to make it work for the Droid Eris, but I am unable to test it, as I don't have an Eris.
Here is the link to the kitchen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Please try it out if you can, and let me know if it works
Before flashing any ROM from the kitchen, please make a Nandroid backup first of your existing ROM!
Thank you, and enjoy!
I will cook a rom with your kitchen and test it on my Eris. Thank you for your work.
Will update with results.
UPDATE!
kitchen mostly works, the roms build and they flash onto the phone. had a few problems with setting task management, then tried option 14 and 15 with a few errors as well, so i just skipped that and just did a very basic rom build. so the core of the kitchen works and you can build roms, the issues i am having could be with my setup or it could be that DSIXDA was unable to test it before releasing, but for an untested kitchen it is FANTASTIC!

what from the first two posts made you think this?
because i was reading that with this we can make a rom that doesnt belong on our phone and make it to where it can go on our phone. soo if we get a rom that can be over clocked will that work
Thank you!! Of course I am damned by the leak but I feel a root coming on and this will really come in handy...

I don't believe you would be able to make a ROM that have the capabilities to OC. With all these current ROMS that have been made by competent cooks, yet none of them OC. But hey, you might be able to and prove me wrong. Which I do hope you can. But I have read from a few forums that OC is not that possible.
We don't have the source for 2.1 for our phone. When we do then OC'ing will be possible. That won't be released until hopefully with or shortly after official 2.1 OTA is released from Verizon.
Thanks!
Probably won't be cooking as much as fiddling with ROMs to suit my own ideals of them, but this seems like it might open the doors to a lot more people.
Just tried porting the DarchDroid ROM:

Everything was successful and I got a signed ROM, but it wouldn't boot. Just got stuck on splash. Tried doing logcat too but nothing showed up.

Yesterday there wasn't any Droid Eris support, that's why it wasn't working yesterday. I had to modify the kernel build command a bit for the Eris. Actually, now that I think about it, the code from yesterday should still work, as it correctly figured out the kernel's base address.
I'll dig into it a bit more...

Basically the kernel's physical base address and the WiFi module. There are a few minor things as well. I did not port an Eris ROM myself when I had the Hero, but this is what people have told me.

thanks!
Have you tried obtaining the Java package with the sudo command? Unfortunately I have not tried the 64 bit method, nor have I been asked about it before. If you find a way please let us know.
If you guys are still having problems with the cooked ROM not booting, then I'll ask some of the experienced Eris cooks around here for help.

I will try cooking a new ROM right now. No porting or anything, just a cooked ROM from the original 2.1 root with some apps removed so I know it is different.
Updating in a few...
I'm working on a ROM right now using your kitchen. I just recently came across your kitchen while searching the forums. I am using version v0.38 and I'm assuming eris support is on v0.39, correct? Should I just extract the the files into the same directory that I have been using for v0.38?
I'll let you know when I sign and try to flash if it works. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

FirefoxOS ported to Samsung Galaxy S2 (JellyBean 4.3)

I've finally opened the new official thread for this port:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612940
Thanks!
Hi,
I've been working on supporting GT-I9100 for FirefoxOS with JellyBean 4.3. This is going to be the near-future for next FirefoxOS releases so thanks to the previous work done by CyanogenMod on porting this device to JB4.3, I could ported it to FirefoxOS.
I don't have "privileges" to create a new thread on i9100 development forum and announce there all the work I've done, so in the meantime I thought that someone here could be interested in testing it and helping
Right now, the only way to have an image and installing it on you device is building it by yourself, just follow these instructions: plus.google.com/117885749590235128300/posts/cH2qU1hcLEC

Hello,
I've currently no time to try compiling (and i had to uninstall my linux recently...) But I will definitely keep an eye on this thread and be happy to test when you succeed to provide a precompiled image (or when I get a little time to compile it myself)
That might be a silly question but is there any chance that it works white other aosp based rom like Paranoid Android ?
Thanks for your work !

Well, the dual boot can be extended to add other ROMs easily but it will take a lot of time to test them all so for now I'd stick with Cyanogenmod 10.2. Anyway, all my work is shared via github.com/atilag so any collaboration will be appreciated
I already provided a CWM installable .zip that you can find here: https : //mega.co.nz/#!0NUwEAxK!AQXMXzjmkQRiMvn6auQEEkN3sL8eOn0GFFXSRyXzdvE

Can you tell us what are the steps for installing this rom? Flash it via CWM? Is this a dual boot rom will it have JB in it, or do you have to flash it on top of JB? What features are functioning in Firefox? Calls, sms, WIFI?

Yes, this is a CWM installable .zip.
It is dual-boot in case you have installed CM10.2 on it. If you don't, you won't be able to dual-boot.
I wanted to reach the necessary post count to create an official thread on developers forums fot this port, so I just used this one as a preview... this is the reason cause there's no much more information about the port in this thread
Anyway, visit the link to my G+ post and you will have further instructions, I cannot post links yet, so build it yoursefl: plus.google.com/117885749590235128300/posts/cH2qU1hcLEC
What doesn't work:
* Graphic issues (some laggy)
* No mobile-data (it connects to 3G/HSDP networks but don't transmit data)
* No Camera
* No Bluetooth
I'm working on building a new version these days, so a new release would be available soon.

Hi Juan,
First of all thanks for the effort of porting Firefox to SGS2, I have successfully installed the zip file that you have posted and I have booted into Firefox. Like you mentioned no mobile data, no camera, no bluetooth. Voice call function ok. I have not managed to connect to a wireless yet. Can you tell me how to boot into android instead of firefox? I have installed the zip on top om CM 10.2 so dual boot should work.

Hi, first of all, I opened a new ROM thread (and thus the official) for this port: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612940
If you want to boot into CM10.2, you have to use adb this way:
adb shell cr.sh 1
This will reboot the phone in this very moment, and will boot into CM10.2.

I can't write on the official thread yet, you know how that is. Curious if anyone has tried the i727 skyrocket yet and what results. Thanks in advance.

A few things here, if I may, first and for most, this does not belong in this Section.
1) Ports do not go in the Original Development...
2) You do not have the Device to test yourself? And if you need to test a ROM, see #1 here
3) And the Format of this OP, is something to be worked on, which is the least of your worries. Take a look here for an example format for a ROM thread.
Thread Closed for the above reasons

Is there really no custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy J5 ?

It seems impossible to find anything when 1000s of Google results are scummy suspicious paywall blogs with oddly similar comment sections. I was looking to update my phone to use Cyanogen mod but the device is not on the supported device list but there are devices from lower tier levels.
Full name for my device is: Galaxy J500FN (maybe it has a different name elsewhere ?) a mid range Samsung phone. In Europe. I found a thread about rooting it but that's not really the same.
Not sure how/where to look for answers.
I own the same device currently and would to get answers to this question. This phone has many users in Asia and Middle East. Btw the full name for my device is Galaxy j500H
I have searched a lot but no luck. I could find anything reliable.

Maybe just wanting something different. There are phones out there from Samsung and other manufacturers of lower and same tier with Android 5.1 which have custom roms.
And it's not just look and feel improvements, voice input/output, better image/video quality, batter life etc..

Ok getting the deodexed rom is easy.
Just install kitchen and cygwin on pc and setup the up correctly.
And then using cwm recovery make a backup of a factory reseted device and then just send me a screenshot of folders which you have.
After i tell you which filder to choose paate them into kitchen and start kitchen to make a working folder.
Then inside kitchen menu deodex apps and framework folder and then repack the rom.
After repacking flaah the rom using cwm recovery.
Your root will not be lost.
In least cases if root lost after flaahing the re root it using same method as you used before for rooting.
And for improvments you want in custom rom. I will try to get them in the rom.

Thanks but currently CWM is not available, I am using twrp and I know the procedure you just mentioned but I'd rather wait for someone to cook a rom than do it myself. Time boht kam hai dost
So install the terminal emulator and write this.
Su
Tar -c /system/* /sdcard/system.tar
And wait patiently for the emulator to respond ok
Now you got the system.tar
And now get the boot.img from the rom
When you get both the files paste them in original rom folder in kitchen and stary cygwin
You can get good guids on cygwin and dsixda kitchen and how to set them.up correctly.
If not then i will tell you guys tommorow. Today going to sleep it too late here 1:27 am.

So, after a bit of research i found a CM12.1 for Galaxy E5, wich is almost the same phone as the J5 (same proc, same RAM, same display). If anyone can port that rom to this device, that would be awesome.

I just cant understand this new porting method (5.1.1 has the system.new.dat - and the base rom is just a tar.md5).

If you are on linux, write in termina: tar -xvf name.tar.md5.
If you succeed in porting , let us know

There are many roms for moto g3 which is very slow in app opening when compared to j5,
So why can't we hv roms.
C tech trinkets video moto g3 vs j5 on YouTube
J5 is midrange beast.
Because that's not how things work, your phone opens apps "faster" good for you, doesn't mean anything.

A MIUI rom for 6p?

I don't know if it's in the correct section (move this thread wherever is appropriate, and sorry for that)
Guys, miui based on MM are out, i understand that patchrom is still 4.4.4, but there's no other way to port it without using it?
Thanks

PathROM was designed to help porting MIUI to devices. I used it 3-4 years ago for porting MIUI to my LG P500. A developer/user could definitely go the manual way, but it would be mess.
Anyways, why do you need MIUI on your 6P? I have had a nightmare using MIUI. And last I used was on the Nexus S.

Well, i just like it more than i like cyanogen or other roms... Also has awesome themes and i like the design of the rom.
I understand that is not maybe the best rom for modding or battery usage, but still a great looking rom.

I can definitely agree on that point. Let us hope someone ports it.
Isnt there a miui v7 for nexus 5? Not sure about 5x, but definately should be possible, just dont think that devs are interested in miui

3rd post in this thread would help - http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-build-port-miui-rom-to-device-t3250984
When I started with MIUI port, we didn't had patchrom anyway near, so we followed something like this.

I may use some help here...
I extracted everything that is necessary and I have copied over the files, how to symlink everything together again? I'm using windows, I suspect I should use linux and extract everything there, right? Or there is any android kitchen (that support 6.x) that helps with this?
Many thanks

I remember using a script from one of the developers, not sure who or when, or would have found it for you. Give a swipe on XDA for Android Kitchens that could help. I am sorry that I am not able to help much here.

I'm dont really know anything about porting ROMs, but if you tell me what you're having issues with I can try to help in finding the solution. Willing to do anything I can to help out

Thank you guys, I will use your help.
Today I will look into it, for the moment i'm still figuring out how to keep symlinks and permissions on windows, but i guess it's impossible. I will try firing up a vm with nix if everything fails.
Ok, so... I made a system and boot img, but I didn't tested those, and I can't get the updater-script to work. If someone helps me with this, I will be really thankful.
The permissions and symlinks part is something that worries me, but I keeped the symlinks and permission from original system.img filesystem by mounting it as a drive in linux and applying mods there.
Also, I keeped every part of the symlink script that camed with miui, so it should tecnically work.
If some of you guys helps me testing this, we can do it.
**** WARNING. IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE AND AT THE MOMENT, IT DOESN'T WORK!!! ****
Here is the rom: https://mega.co.nz/#!b90GSJRa!7rXM2UhwtEw8M0fbIrK2F3za9w5KTGY1FPD4IGmHu1k
It was ported from the Mi Note (not the pro) which has really similar specs to our device, and this version also includes an italian translation (so there are 3 langs, English, Chinese and Italian)
No ones helping? I really wish i could help you with the testing but as i dont have computer access right now dont wanna brick my 6p without being able to repair it without pc.
Ok, i managed to get the rom flashed... So. The boot image seems almost fine, since i got to the bootanimation screen. There, it stucks.
I don't know how to debug it, since the adb doesn't show up (and is active in kernel)
I activated adb by the use of:
Code:
ro.adb.secure=0
ro.secure=0
ro.allow.mock.location=0
ro.debuggable=1
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb
persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.service.debuggable=1
in the kernel default.prop... I don't know if these lines are outdated, but i'm still trying guys.
