enable wifi calling on "non carrier" device? - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my carrier supports wifi calling but only if you buy the phone directly from them which means it needs to run their old version of android. Is there any way around this? Not too keen on going back a release or two and getting their bloatware on my phone

If your device is rooted you can download CSC feature expert or CSC Master from the play store. The option is in there somewhere. There's loads of other stuff you can enable too. Your phone can do lots they don't allow by default!

thanks, my phone is not rooted. Is there no way to do this without rooting?

I'd check with one of the forum members who offers this service, they're more reliable.

I'm guessing it won't work since to the right of the page it says select your device and the L720 isn't listed.

I see you posting all over the forums trying to unlock this phone. Can I ask why did you buy a U.S. Sprint phone if you want to use a unlocked phone? And where are you trying to use it?

Problem with RAZR M

I recently got the Verizon Droid Razr M XT907 and used it to go from Cricket CDMA to GSM. It's running 4.4.2 build KDA20.62-15.1(most recent update), no root and locked bootloader. The phone is working fine except for random reboots about every one to two hours except when on WiFi. I'm using the AIO APN's and have tried AT&T APN's for preferred network type I have tried Global and GSM/UMTS with network options GSM only, UMTS only and automatic. Under Global and GSM/UMTS (UMTS only and automatic) I get H+ for data along with random reboots. I'm currently on GSM/UMTS GSM only I get G and E for data with no reboots as of yet.
I've checked with the previous owner and this is the first time it has done this. I have tried everything I have searched for from factory reset, enabling all factory apps to removing apps I installed. I didn't have any of the type of apps mentioned in my searches that may cause this problem.
I don't know if this is an issue with the phone, with it being a Verizon phone or with the sim from Cricket.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thank You
Probably software but it could be the battery or other hardware failure

Yes I have several times. After googling an app call modem fast dormancy monitor service to see what it was I came across a Motorola forum that discussed it and they had the same problems. The app only effects the phone when not using Verizon for service along with KitKat. The only way I've found to disable it is with root access and with the latest update it's not possible that I know of.

New root method... Supposedly

So I just came across this tweet from droidx - https://youtu.be/QicDqTKb_sU supposedly this root method will work with any android phone 5.1.1 or lower. Lots of caution needed here due to the origin and amount of permissions needed, but he did show it rooting a Verizon note 4. I have the apk but haven't tried it as I'm using a prerooted image and haven't flashed back to stock.

UPDATED INFO (5/13/15)
1) English version is available here through XDA (LINK);
2) This is a temporary root that doesn't survive a reboot (this is due to write protection); and
3) A permanent root solution (for the Note 4) is being worked on off of XDA (due to some thread circumstances) (reference is here).
Right now there is no word of anyone working on a Droid Turbo permanent root solution.
New perma-root discussion for the Note 4 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60713495
Update (5/18/15)
1) There is a new script out that will delete kinguser and install supersu instead! The link is here. Keep in mind that this script will need to be modified for our device, but according to the script authors it should be applicable.
2) It has been recommended to soft reboot the device using this app from the play store. There are a million of these type of apps available, but this one is being used on the Note 4 side.

Download the version directly from their website. I'm going to remove the English site link.
The official version doesn't have that issue.
I forwarded over to @JustinCase but he doesn't have time to dig into it.

Of course it attempts to bypass Android security, it's an app that gives you root.

Do you know if you can install xposed with this or do you still need a system image with xposed pre-installed?

I just read a ton of the note 4 thread, and many people had to try a few times to get it to work. Supposedly this is just a temp root method on devices with write protection. If you do get root, try a reboot and see if it sticks.
I'm not sure if this method in it's current form gets us anything over what we have now but it could lead to more.
Mine failed too

I've heard enabling allow mock locations might be necessary.
They are working on a perm method but nothing yet. This is very interesting.
FYI this doesn't install SuperSU or let it be installed.
Yeah, temp root. No write permissions.

Anyone try this with flashfire http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3075433
I have root haven't tried xposed

I confirm doesn't survive reboot also
So what's the point if write protection is still on?
I don't believe this kind of sites
tried the app and the pc app method.. both didtn work for the droid turbo. now im thinking they stole some info.

You have to Odin back to stock. You can't just wipe in factory recovery, it still leaves the eng kernel in place.
Well I was on official PG1 firmware , and followed the instructions on how to root I did it and nothing of my stuff got erased neither did I factory reset anything

So to do this the right way I have to
1 Odin back to stock
2 run root presses

I removed all traces of the icon in the imsservice.apk and it is still showing up. I'm going to dig into SystemUi.apk and see if it's in there. Will be busy until tomorrow catching Pokemon at a PG meet up, but I'll keep you guys updated.
Yeah that shouldn't be showing up if you're completely stock. IF you still have the eng-kernel then it'll be there no matter what you do unless you either edit the imsservice.apk file or odin back to stock factory rom.

Even editing the apk isn't working. I feel like it's deeper in the system. I removed every trace of stat_notify_volte* and stat_notify_rcs* and it is still there

There are threads throughout the forum about removing the rcs icon in the status bar. It shouldn't be too difficult to remove. I was able to do it but I was receiving an "imsservice error" every time I called certain people. Which lead me to believe it wasn't completely effective so I reverted completely back to stock (it was gone) then flashed the engkernel (which brought it back) and from there I simply considered it a small price to pay for root access. Wouldn't you agree?
It's there to remind you of root

Cellular Data frequently disconnecting on t-mobile network

My cellular data keeps on disconnecting and it shows a exclamation point on the signal. I'm using G900v on t-mobile network. The issue only happens running Marshmallow. I've tried AICP, PhoenixRom and Cyanogenmod 13. All have the same issue. It happens randomly and immediately after a phone call. I constantly have to turn on and off data to reset it.
If I install Lollipop there are no issues. I've tried everything I can find online but nothing seems to work. My APN setting are correct.
Can anyone help figure out why?
Make sure you are on a mm modem check by going to settings about and check what baseband /modem you are on

Best bet is to reinstall a lolipop firmware in odin and reroot and reboot bootloader unlock then reinstall mm rom

Tried that already. Went back to stock Verizon Lollipop.... Rooted.... bootloader unlock and updated to MM.
Let me know if you find a solution to this! Been bothering me for a while. To be clear, my problem only exists in non-TouchWiz ROMS.
I am also having exactly same issue but instead of exclamation sign, I get small white x on the signal bars. I also have Verizon S5 that I am using on T-mobile. I had no issues when I was using ATT but this problem started as soon as I switched to T-mobile. My data disconnects randomly and I have to either disable or switch to airplane mode to enable data. Is there a solution to this problem without going back to Lollipop? Currently, I am on Cosmin-OS 7.1.1
does anyone know where i can find the latest modem to flash on my verizon variant , my signal has been poor lately and i wanted to know if flashing the latest baseband would help currently im on a 7.1.2 rom and the baseband is the g900vvvru2bpb1 .
