FM Radio - for Samsung Galaxy A5 - 500W - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello,
I just bought a new shiny phone, Samsung Galaxy A5, and I've noticed is not so shiny.
FM Radio functionality is out for Samsung Galaxy A5 - 500W.
I tried Spirit, as recommended on this forum, but it requires "root" - also a functionality not present on new Galaxy A5, at least in Canada.
To root the phone, there is a topic explaining how to root Galaxy A5, but 500W model is not included.
All I want is a simple FM Radio, without streaming, without internet connection. And if is possible, without going through the hassle of rooting the phone.
Thank you.

I managed to install an application "Droid FM Lite", and when I'm opening the app, I got this message:
"This application is unable to make use of the FM Radio hardware, or no such driver exists on this device. If you were considering to purchase the full version, then there is no reason to do so anymore "
Does this mean the FM HARDWARE functionality is completely removed from A5 - model 500W ?

I hope this is not the case with my upcoming purchase of the A5 (SM-A510F) . I only buy phones with FM, and never use data plans (WiFi only), so FM is critical for me. I've currently got the xperia Z2 and my wife has the LG G2, again both with FM which we use all the time. You should send the phone back and demand the FM version. It's a critical piece of hardware which is why I'll never ever buy an apple phone until they change their strategy. Indeed I've never owned a Samsung either because of the lack of FM on higher spec models, so it's great to see them including this on the A5.

[Q] some questions about Galaxy s4 i9500 (before I buy)

please help and answer about what you know.. thanks
1) i heard then exyos 5 chip does support LTE 4G in korea version, and the exact same chip is installed in i9500 international version so there may be a chance that LTE will be enabled using rooting features or something?
2) do you know a good store or something in Europe (if you have in Italy it would be much better) from where I can buy GALAXY S4 I9500 version with 650$-750$(max). (looking for 16GB version)
3) do you know where can I buy extended battery for S4 (at least 3,000 mah) and I hope it wont be needed special case or something.. im looking for a good battery but not too big.. I dont know if there are already good batteries, or its still early to ask
4) there is NO fm radio in S4?
5) what is the download speed for S4 (i9500) using 3G network? is it better than S3 although its still 3G and not 4G ?
Galaxy s4 development questions:
2) there will be AOKP based rom or good roms for s4 or its still too early to talk about it?
3) do you think there will be clean- android rom (without samsung stock design) PLUS full customization like s1-3 have ?
4) I wanna buy galaxy s4 soon but im afraid..there are great roms for S1 (like AOKP) .. i hope there will be stable+fast roms with a lot of features.. i wanna enjoy my phone and NOT like s1 (because good roms for s1 came 1 YEAR after i bought it.. hope it wont be the same with S4)
BOOST AND OVERCLOCKING:
5) i never realized that.. why would simple developers make "boost" to the SD CARD, RAM ect.. and not samsung?
my father says never overclock or something because Samsung does its best and if you boost something, it hurts something else.. is that true?
6) do you think there will be good and optimistic Overclocking+ boosting features for S4?
7) I heard a new linux kernel has been released .. will it be used in Android 4.3? do you think it will boost s4 performance?

I see that no one answered you. Personaly, I have searched for 3 weeks the same information, and I don't find anything useful. I will try to answer you as much as I can:
1/Since no one has acquired the Korea version(or a very little group), we don't have much information on this model. And there isn't any information about the LTE in I9500. It is more a hardware question than a software question, I don't think a little rooting will change this.
2/I live in France. I bought mine on Ebay, since the guy has good feedback and has a lot of I9500 in stock. I first ordered on valuebasket.fr, but this scammer siteweb just make me waiting and waiting, 7-10 days before shipping, and 7-10 days for the shipping. So I just cancled. I also tried on Negri Electronics, but they are out of stock too. IFinally I go to ebay and find the seller who sells 530 euros (700 dollars) + 36 euros (45 dollars) fedex shipping fee. It will arrive early next week.
3/Dude, an extented battery will make your phone bigger for sure, there is no doubt. You cannot get both...
4/No fm radio, but who cares...On the one hand, almost nobody listen to radio nowadays, on the other hand, we can litsten to radio on a lot of siteweb if we want.
I cannot answer your developpment question. Hope these can help you.
AOKP and CM roms for the I9500 will be slow to arrive due to the non-open source nature of the Exynos chipset. This is one area where the I9505 holds the advantage with it's Snapdragon architecture as shown by the fact there is already a CM10.1 release available.
You will get them eventually though.

[Q] Is the S5 physically capable of receiving FM radio?

Does the snapdragon quad-core version of the S5(SM - G900i) actually have the hardware inside it to be capable of receiving FM radio, rooted or not?
That's one thing i think Samsung made a huge mistake with, not including an FM radio, don't know about other countries but here in Australia FM radio is still hugely popular, i was quite pissed when i looked and didn't find one when i powered mine up for the first time. We don't have unlimited mobile data in aus so all this streaming BS is too costly.
Thanks for any help.
I still think an FM reciever is more pratical use than a heart rate sensor. But I dont mind because most people dont listen to FM radio anymore (the last fone I own that has FM radio is HTC Evo 3D)
The answer is no. There is no FM reciever built into the Galaxy S5 or most of new phone nowadays.
All you can do is listen to in through online broadcast.

Google play app, reliable and doesnt need earphones to be plugged in... excellent buffering in the device, more stations than can possibly be expected.Even without using headphones (Wi-Fi recommended over data plans)
I believe only the Sprint Galaxy S5 (G900P) has the FM radio buiilt in.

Sprint S5 kernel for g900f to enable fm radio

Hi, I have Galaxy s5 g900f and NextRadio installed to receive fm radio but it doesn't work because carrier didn't unlocked it. S5 Sprint version has it. Can someone port Sprint S5 kernel to G900F version? I tried TuneIn radio but I need offline radio.
As dar as I know, it's a hardware limitation

It may just be wishful thinking, but the current consensus is that it's a software (or firmware) limitation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661286&page=16#post57373795
The phones with it seem to have the same hardware as those without.
They both share this Broadcom chip which is capable of receiving FM radio signals. Whether or not the sprint version uses this or not I don't know. It is not at all uncommon to find redundant hardware in mobile tech.
It's very unlikely that Samsung would commission a special variant for just one carrier. It really doesn't make business sense. The most likely explanation is that Samsung pays Broadcom a rate depending on which features they use. Sprint have simply foot the extra money for the FM capabilities so Samsung have enabled them.
It is possible that the Broadcom chip requires a specific external oscillator (if it doesn't somehow share the same 2.4GHz one the bluetooth and Wi-FI uses). My poor-man's electrotec instinct is telling me it's impossible to put an accurate oscillator inside an IC. Relatively speaking, these are actually expensive components. Samsung could simply not load the pick'n'place machine with this component and there you go. They've saved money with no design changes whatsoever and we loose our FM This is a visible mod and if we ever get pics of the two mainboards side by side we would be able to tell.
However! It is also possible the Broadcom chip can have features permanently deactivated via an eFuse to satisfy licence requirements. (Nasty right? but it does go on unfortunately It's a lot cheaper than making several different chips)
I think we have a great chance to be honest, but no one has announced they're working on it now.
If like me, you really want this feature, I suggest heading to the post above and pledging a donation for a working hack.
My s5 mini is same.

What Am I Getting Into If I Go with the Unlocked S8 SM-G950F? I'm in the US & AT&T

What Am I Getting Into If I Go with the Unlocked S8 SM-G950F? I'm in the US & AT&T
An experienced Google Phone Root & ROM'er I'm looking at getting an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950F from B&H Photo/Video.
Soooo much to read its killing me. I need a jump start in the right direction in the forest.
I use AT&T post paid here in the US. I basically want to TWRP for NANDs' & TBU, and Theme.
What will I have to put up with on the negativity side?
Will Oreo & updates be easy to get onto the device?
Will AT&T give me issues?
Thanks
Anything AT&T-specific or Qualcomm-related will not work. Such as HD voice / WiFi calling and Samsung Pay. Updates will roll in at the same time when the 950F is updated worldwide. Other than aforementioned feature losses, AT&T will be none the wiser and the phone will work just like any unlocked phone does.
Having said that, I do not see an upside of the Exynos 8895 this time around. The SD835 and the Exynos 8895 come out of the same fab (Samsung Semiconductor) on the same lithography (10 nm LPE), and are tuned to perform similarly as has been a tradition for the Galaxy series. Reviews confirm that they are roughly equal, and If anything SD835 seems to have an edge in battery endurance thanks to Qualcomm's advanced modem technology.
Besides which, Samsung sell unlocked phones directly from their website with a generous promotion that lets you trade in older phones, and having a record with them might come in handy if you need to use the warranty service in the future.
I can think of only one advantage of the Exynos variant of the S8 - that it does not have that stupid "Galaxy S8" marking on the back of the phone, which is a huge eyesore on all Snapdragon variants of S8/S8+ and the Note 8.

Galaxy Watch 3 LTE

Very specific crowd this is geared towards, any one with AT&T and a Galaxy Watch 3 LTE? Want to now if the call forwarding is working, it should since it has VoLTE but just checking.

You'd need to pair it properly so I'd guess you'd need to pair it whilst it's in a galaxy. Kind of had the same issue with an activ LTE and couldn't pair with my Huawei P20 pro. Watch LTE was paid for but wouldn't work on it's own without the phone via Bluetooth.
Now unless Samsung hates Huawei (probably does) and doesn't mind Oneplus (no Idea)
Then it could just work off the bat with the galaxy wear app, but I would expect the same issues I had.
As I said one way around it would be to set up the watch with a galaxy (swap out SIM) then change back to the OnePlus. That will work as expected
