little troubling that the demo models are running the exynos instead of the 820.Wonder what the reasoning for that is.

Its because they are the international versions. The US carrier versions will have the S820. Also why is it troubling? The Exynos is pure beast.

I would rather have the Exynos. It makes me wonder if the Exynos may provide a better demo experience.I know they claim minor differences in performance but why not have the demo be the actual version you will be buying.Kind of like test driving a chevy with a ford engine under the hood.Sure it may provide the same experience but its not what you are getting in the car you are buying.

Thats true. I was looking for carrier branding on the demos. This is explains it.
These phones are so nice in person!!!!! That camera too. Wow.

What is the international version doing in the US as a demo phone? That's the question, its a bit puzzling why samsung sent any there when they should all have the sd820.

It makes perfect sense. The goal is to show off the S7, not what carrier its on. The carrier versions will be the same plus bloatware and an S820.

Not really because some of the features will be missing from the carrier versions like the Samsung browser. Why not a version from each carrier so people can see exactly what they are getting, which is not the international version.

Hard to judge as it not a real test, but it's not that impressive, not big upgrade over Note 5.

That makes less sense because you're then advertising that there are differences between each devices. Again the goal is to show the S7 period. If there was hardware changes like there was on the S2 then yes but since there won't be any changes other than the SoC which Samsung does not advertise then its easier to have one model on display to show what the phone is about. Then you can go and check out carrier versions when it is released.

There are differences.Software differences are just as important as hardware differences. If Samsung were more Like Apple and not bend to every whelm of the carriers there would be no issues.

Android is open source unlike apple. So that's just the way it is. And again you're missing the point. Its about showing the S7 as a whole. Yes the carrier versions will differ in some areas but overall it will still be a galaxy s7. And we don't even know for sure what features will be available or not. Its like saying Samsung should display an S7 with an unlocked bootloader and one with a locked bootloader.

Just got back from my local Best Buy and played around with both the S7 and S7 Edge. What fantastic phones.

Why does it list 3.5GB of RAM instead of 4? I could understand the phone is currently using 0.5GB out of 4GB but that seems odd since that list isn't the RAM management feature.

That makes sense, is just that I had never seen it like that on a phone.

Samsung has a specific demo unit variant without cell capabilities denominated by the X affix (G930X), and of course they'll only do one variant of that.

Personally, not amused. Didn't raise the bar the way the S2 did. US versions shafted with S4.
And also, I think it's absolutely hideous. "Inspired by pebbles?" Honestly, who could even say that with a straight face. Oval phones are just... not smart.
But all in all, it's probably one "Plus" away from being stunning, but alas, combined with a pretty questionable keynote, I'd say this is overall pretty disappointing. It's still easily one of the best phones on the market, but it's now in a market populated by the HTC One X and the Huawei Ascend D XL, the former which is stunningly beautiful, and the latter has the chance to be even more specs-heavy than the S3.
tl;dr: Samsung pulled a 4s.

Nice device, no doubt.
Is it groundbreaking? Don't know yet, we'd have to see some reviews to determine that.
I will say this, development is going to be through the roof for this phone, just as it with the SGS2.

When it comes out in the USA, i dont know if im really getting it. Thats what happened when the S2 first came out. It came out around summer 2011 then a couple months later on a october, the tmobile brand t989 was released with upgraded hardware. Maybe the S3 might follow the same route.

'Quad-core' is a good marketing term for selling. Minor differences in everyday use in my opinion. You'll notice the difference if you run a benchmark.
I like all the functionality of it.... but I'd like to know from someone who knows:
Will our S2 be able to do all the cool stuff they are showing off with a software upgrade to 4.0.X ? Like the gesture functions, etc... Because our phone can already do most of the stuff they are showing, and the specs are pretty close?
Some of the features they show off will be unique to it, because the S3 uses a new version of Touchwiz that the Galaxy S2 isn't getting. Our ICS update is more a minor update, whereas the S3 gets some unique features. Kind of like HTC adding unique features to Sense 4 versus phones with Sense 3.5, even though both are on ICS.
-the ultimate black dragon-
If the tmobiles version gets turned into the red headed stepchild like the s2 did with changing the processors I'm just gonna go with the note or jump ship to att..

That's touchwiz i wasn't impressed at all. It not even all that special especially since samsung didn't even bother using a15 architecture on their processor. So qualcomm will be in the lead till ti omap is released. The only noticeable feature was picture in picture and that is it. Guess ill be sticking with the nexus line because
all those features are useless. but they can be done with apps which someone will probably do in the future.

Yea that what I meant buy the international unlocked for att but again I wasn't to impressed with it so I'm leaning towards getting the note and riding it out til the next nexus.
i dont like how it looks, i also think that it is too big its almost the same size as the galaxy note. It has a 8mp camera hopefully its not the same ones they put in the galaxy s2. that being said only thing left to really know is hows the battery life.
the next nexus will hopefully be a bit better

But it only has HSPA +21
No HSPA +42 for us TMO users?

I agree with OP. Pretty much a let down here. Minor upgrades with some gimmicks. It will be the same story all over for us nerds here who want updates. Sure it has nice specs, but development is going to be slow for 6-9 months after the next OS release for android I probably wont own it, I don't need those specs for anything. which s3 lte model to get?

Hi,
I've been monitoring the S3 lte threads and researching the different variants of the i9305.
So far i've been inclined to get the HK version which supports multiple lte bands.
I need your options\advise here please. Are there any pro's/con's with this choice? Would you recommend a different model?

If you want S3 LTE I rather you get the Note II. I think more developers will develop for the S3 International 3G version than the LTE version. At least Note II is only LTE version so to me more people will develop roms and kernels for the Note II than the S3 LTE.

I've got a philosophical question for everyone. Does it really make rational sense to pay premium for an S5 only to then install AOSP? Wouldn't it be more reasonable to acquire a Nexus 5 for half the price?

AOSP is definitely great in terms of performance, modification friendliness and flexibility.
However, I would suggest that spending $699 on a phone regardless of whether it is an M8 or S5 or Note 3 just to abandon the differentiating features such as multi-window, finger print sensor and depth camera make absolutely no sense.
One could argue that just a few years ago the decision to run AOSP on a flagship device such as the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy S3 made for an excellent alternative strategy due to limitations in the stock software which caused issues including laggy performance, resource hogging and slow software updates. However, in the upscale smartphone market today, the vast majority of such shortcomings have been eliminated. Furthermore, manufacturers now focus on differentiation via various innovative features such as the S-Pen, dual speakers and IP67 resistance in hopes of capturing market share.
Hence, purchasing a premium tier smartphone in order to strip away the differentiating features demonstrates a careless squander of financial resources when the individual could have achieved the exact same experience on a mid-range device such as the Moto X or the Nexus 5.

Here's another reason why this whole conversation is still all subjective.... It's also about where you live in the pricing available to you...
For us in the US here the pricing for Carrier based phones are all around the same price... S5 @$150 or less... m8 @$199 or less, G2 @$50 or Free (recent change due to G3 release)
If you wait 1 more month...all phones will be either free or at max $50, since we pay higher carrier fees than most countries.

This is not necessarily a Nexus problem. Any manufacturer that orders the identical component from 3 different suppliers will end up building products with HW variations. Keep in mind that this issue is not only limited to the Nexus product line.

That's your opinion. But each phone and each hardware is different: you won't find an external SD slot or a removable battery on the Moto X or the N5. Some people are Samsung users for these reasons only, and couldn't care less with the "features" added by TouchWiz that they find useless (that's my case).
To give a personal example, turning my Galaxy S4 into an custom AOSP phone made it at least ten times better for me. Very fast and smooth UI, nice minimalistic look, removed all the useless Samsung apps and features I wasn't using (smart screen, etc.) In fact the only thing I'm missing is the lockscreen lol, I somehow liked the Samsung ripple effect...

You aren't taking into consideration the wide range of features available on AOSP ROMs nor the many additional features obtainable through XPOSED or even the Play Store in general. They are far more extensive and useful than any manufacturer's features IMO. As for hardware features, they'd normally be supported in AOSP, depending on the feature, such as the S-Pen. If not, there are developers out there that make AOSP ROMs supporting unique software/hardware features.
Slim
Unfortunately I can't post on the slim thread but the 9-9-2014 I have flashed on my g900T tonight. I used a version of an inverted velvet gapps for aosp 4.4.4. You can search for darkhorse inverted apps you can use any of the 4.4.2.+ I believe. These Gapps look great with it.
Also the pac-rom is fully functional with the g900t also. I flashed both and have both working.
Both roms camera, dialer incoming answer, APNs [Editable and can be saved but they are already working].
If you aren't interested in the camera for g900t Mokee Rom and Cabon Rom both are ajust about fully functional without the camera. Carbon Rom you need to just add the APN to get data which you can search for instruactions. Its very easy.
And CM11 seems to be fully functional it just doesn't have all the MODs built in that the other AOSP Roms do. Its perfect for anyone that wants to switch for stock to AOSP.
This is true up to todays date to my knowledge. I am just thrilled I finally have a working SlimROM on my S5 as of today.

For T-mobile and Sprint users the s6 + note 5 are the kings of all cell phones. The samsung phones beat the nexus 6p in every category. People on Verizon and AT&T it's best to switch to Nexus 6p because we have lock bootloaders, super slow updates etc.. I have a note 5 verizon and I'm switching, but when it comes to specs the nexus 6p can't even get close to the note 5. I'm going to do a youtube video before selling my note 5 once I get my nexus 6p.

Better in terms of HW on paper. But SW wise nexus will always be king. In terms of a fluid UI that is. Hopefully google really optimized battery life this time around to complete with OEM's. You want a fluid device with the fastest updates and good HW ... Nexus all the way.

Yep Nexus rules...its a XDA thing!
i was asking myself that exact same question, especially cuz here in Germany the S6E+ and the 6P will only be about 30€ apart (ikr, insane.... one of those rare instances where i wished i was in the US! ugh)
anyways, bottom line was that id still be going for the 6P, im just too much of a nexus fanboy direct and clean android updates, tons of custom roms, larger battery and, tbh, better looking design did it for me!

im kinda disappointed... the 810 processor have been killing phones all year. And see as how its underclocked in the 6p one can only assume that it still sucks.
Samsung is a no go. KNOX on Samsung has me running away.
Thankful
I appreciate your responses, definitely I am going back to the nexus devices.
Does anyone know when it will be available in the different carriers, here in US?
Again, thank you all.

Why do you assume when this is NOT TRUE.
Greg Joplin
If any carriers in the US does not sell 6P, jump on demand from T Mobile will be useless, I am very disappointed, I bought S6 Edge with jump, thinking changing it for Nexus 6P, what do we do now!

Not really sure where the assumption is. Not including the the SD 810v1, if you look up the OnePlus 2 which have v2 it stills suffers from performance issues, heating issues, and throttling issue....so remind me what it is that I'm assuming again unless this SD 810 is actually the 820 in disguise

Yep you're right it isn't, but the jury is still out performance wise
I'm failing to see how the s6+ and note 5 are smashin the 6p in the HW department. They are very comparable in specs.

The only way would be the better thermal efficiency of the Exynos.

That's what I'm thinking seems lame people are saying it is better hardware wise in a phone that hasn't been even reviewed yet. Exynos doesn't even have any great support but that's a software thing.
Once you've tasted Exynos you'll never want it again. No sane dev wants to waste the time on that crap. Factor in KNOX, LagWiz and Samsung's notoriously bad "support" if you ever need 'em, makes it an easy choice. If you need/want root it's even easier unless you want a goofy "warranty void" message every bootup.
Meanwhile all the Nexuses will be on Android N this time next year and the Note 5 will be abandonware in classic Samsung fashion, all the dev forums will be barren except a few old hacked stock-ish roms. Even Samsung doesn't like to support Exynos

They are comparable on specs but the note is overall better in hardware. I will say the nexus is on par with the 6S plus.

you simply cant compare specs between the iphone and android phones. ios requires so much less horsepower

Samsung did it again .... So stupid

Here we go again Samyy halts the S7 N updated .... I hate to bring the bad news but I am getting pissed with sammy
well we pay so high prices for Sammy's phones to get a good phone
First, it is so loaded with sammy's interface that kills the device resources.
Second the phones freezes more than ever all the sammys phones they freeze when they are coming from Idle state
third we got the updates very very very very late .... so when some others got alreadu Nougat and they are enjoying it for so many months
sammy decides to wait and wait and wait and then in the end at a point when we are about to get rid of the device sammy comes with here we go this is you update when I am waiting for my next phone to come in shipment
I am kinda pissed and I am guessing this might be the last Sammy phone.
this is too much

Yep they did it again, released an update, and it works fine. Phew
I'm actually disappointed in Samsung as well. My biggest complaint is that anyone willing to dish out $600+ on a phone should be able to do whatever they please to customize the phone to their liking. While everyone is enjoying the international version of the S7 with the Exynos octacore, the users on the US version running snapdragon quadcore are locked down with pretty much nothing to do. I've had several issues with my phone. The phone is loaded with 339 apps and I can't uninstall them. I can disable them, but there are still services running in the background and the awesome piece of hardware doesn't even work properly because all the resources are consumed by the numerous amounts of bloatware. I get people's frustration about the phone. I've tried cleaning it as much as I can, but it doesn't matter because even with all the greenify, forcedoze, leandroid tweaks it still drains more battery than it should and the performance is mediocre at best. The only thing I can say is Samsung does a great job with their camera's. I too ended up having to buy a new phone because I didn't want to keep playing with this thing just so that it operates like I want it to. I don't even use it for gaming or anything like that. Just multitasking, social media every now and then and that's all. Touchwiz is very laggy, and I don't blame people to be frustrated. That's just my opinion though.

Honestly it's your fault. You should have researched about the phone, in specific that variant before buying it. There were PLENTYYYY of sites online, Including XDA who reported that the bootloader was locked in the Snapdragon US variants.
I def do my research. I'm no novice when it comes to technology. I just think if you're buying something for $600 it would be fair to have a device that works properly. Not lags.. Wouldn't you agree?
I have an international S6 that is unlocked, but that phone has spotty LTE connection due to the bands. With the S7 I would run into the same issue if I were to get the international version.
The bootloader is only a small thing. The BIG issue is the lag and resource constraints in the phone. There is no need for all the bloatware. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not sure if the processor is the only difference in the performance. I'm assuming in terms of the software is concerned, it should be fairly similar in ROM's. However as I mentioned above I have 339 apps that come stock on my phone. This includes all the t-mobile apps, samsung apps, system apps etc... Now I'm not sure which ones are the ones that are so resource heavy, but I'm telling you when I switch between apps in the background there is a delay. When I scroll through a website there is a delay, when I read news from flipboard there is a delay. In terms of battery usage, I've used greenify, forcedoze, leanify and a few other apps that people on here recommended and the apps did help, but it still didn't really improve the performance. The CPU governor is set to interactive. I know I can raise the clock to make it more responsive, but I shouldn't have to do that at the cost of my battery and life of my phone. I think Samsung does an amazing job with the hardware they provide for the user; it's the software that I believe is throttling the heck out of the performance. However for those of you that have no complaints, it seems it's because you're on the Exynos version. The snapdragon version unfortunately has more issues than just the bootloader being locked.
