Where to buy an unlocked version? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I live in South America, but I have a friend that is studying in USA who can bring the phone in March. I'd like to pay the full amount of the phone and have it UNBRANDED (I just can't stand the logos) both in boot-up, and physically.
How does one go about doing this? If you buy the phone form AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile for the full prize are they unlocked or do you have to put in a request? I have no idea how it works. Which version should I get? I checked best buy and they only sell carrier-tied for $300+400 I want to pay the full $800 or whatever they cost.
Thanks.

They all will have carrier apps and some form of branding, and they all will be locked(Except Verizon). You should be able to purchase any of them outright. The unlock policies varies by carrier. Also I believe only AT&T and Verizon request locked and encrypted bootloaders.

I don't have anyone living in UK that can bring it to me. Besides, UK will have Exynos which means no ROM development from what I read.
So, clearly, no way to get an unbranded one right now, but will I be able to get one in the future like from Amazon? One that has the snapdragon and is unbranded? Thanks.

Oh nice info, but is snapdragon 820 available? I read for ROM development compatibility one must get the snapdragon.

OH, sorry I didn't know that. You can buy direct from them on their UK site.

I contacted them and they asked me to wait until the release date, I live in DR and I'm in the same situation. I already contacted a couple of local sellers that are doing pre orders and will deliver on the 15th. Look around your local market, it will be a bit expensive but if you really want it is an option.

All new s7 models are region locked so a europe version wont work with a usa sim , the lock is a temporary lock that switches off after 5 minutes with a phone call with the correct sim , carrier models lock to the first sim card you insert and do not unlock , which is why its always better to buy phones in independant shops , apart from no locks its also carrier bloat free

Clove UK and Unlocked Mobile are claiming all they need to do is exactly that, insert a European SIM card then make a 5 minute call and it should be ready to use in the US.

This one looks promissing - http://www.ebay.com/itm/191814209192

I contacted UnlockedMobiles and they said the region SIM lock might apply to Europe carrier variants but not to the Global/International variant.

IS AT&T SGSIII carrier-locked when paying for the full price?

I'm attempting to buy the AT&T SGSIII with the full price since it's probably the cheapest you can get among all the options.
As I am going to use it on Rogers network in Canada, I would like to know if it's carrier-locked even i pay for the full price???
I know Android phones are pretty easy to get unlocked. I just don't want the hassle.
I plan on driving down to the Seattle this upcoming weekend and nail one!!! Cannot wait anymore!
Even if you get it without commitment, the device will still be locked. AT&T won't unlock it for about six months (I don't know the exact length). Why not just try cellunlocker.net? It unlocked my phone in thirty mins. It's just 25$ so give it a try

Wow..... 6 months.... So, if i get it unlocked through cellunlocker.net, and I flash back to the factory setting and have AT&T unlocked it for me 6 months later?? Will they still honor the warranty??
Sorry for my noob question. Coming from iPhone and not quite familiar with American carrier.
AT&T says they have a 6 month period when they have exclusivity on the phones, but they obviously don't have exclusive rights in the US. Also, they've been unlocking iPhones that were purchased outright, so you can use that to your advantage.

Once you do a sim unlock, it's unlocked forever. No need to get a code from AT&T when it's available.
AT&T is interested in selling phones for it's network, not selling to people looking to sell or take them somewhere else.

HTC One Ireland Users Thread

Post any info related to HTC One in Ireland in this thread.
I'll get the ball rolling.
Was in town today (Dublin)and here are my findings.
Carphone Warehouse - They don't have any stock and "don't know when they will" great customer service as ever.... NOT!
3 Ireland - Have stock in Grafton Street branch but only for bill pay customers, said didn't know when they'll have it available for pre pay customers, even though it's advertised on their website for €599.99!!
Vodafone - Available for both bill pay and pay as you go customers, on PAYG the phone costs €579.99, sales guy said minimal stock (Grafton Street branch)
O2- Available for both bill pay and pay as you go customers, on PAYG (best deal I've seen yet) its available for €550 according to the sales guy In the shop, I'm getting mine tomorrow and getting it unlocked, great price, (Henry Street branch)
EMobile - Don't appear to have any stock, sales guy didn't seem overly fussed.
Meteor - As above
Tesco Mobile don't have any physical shops but can't see it on their website, so assume they too don't have it.
48 months - Is a SIM only network aimed at teenagers so N/A

Got one from meteor for 530
Got one on Vodafone PAYG as I'm not due an upgrade.
Surprisingly its unbranded (no vodafone splash screen) and unlocked/sim free out of the box (stuck a three microsim in to test and worked no bother).
Also have a double-dip case and HTC screen protector. I had ordered from Expansys (€632 for unlocked) but due to their delays cancelled and picked up the phone here. Was amazed its sim free & unbranded.
charge time
alright lads can anyone answer how long it takes to charge 0-100%, think its suppose to feature quick charge 1.0 from qualcomm

It's faster than the One X, but not that fast. 2-2.5 hours. I read somewhere that HTC purposely made it that way, although I'm sure there's the potential for it to charge faster on custom ROMs/kernels .

thanks for the reply man, just thought with the quick-charge feature 1.0 that it would charge in bout hour an a half like!
Getting mine from Amazon this time, since I'm mid contract in 3. Amazon've a way better return and replace policy than any network or retailer.
Gonna be sticking with network 3, after Meteor and O2s various billing errors over the years (one of the two charged me €900 by error and took almost year to correct the issue...in credit for use on their network only).
Not to mention, no other Irish network offers as much bandwidth allowance as 3 does - I hate limits
Has anyone heard any news on LTE in Ireland yet? I've seen that the 800, 900 and 1800mhz ranges were sold off, but there's no news which of these will be used by either network or if even a combination in each network.

Vodafone said they would be rolling it out for their top tier billpay price plan this month and pay as you go by summer time.
Considering three are the only ones that will give a big enough allowance for LTE to make sense i'l be waiting for them, their CEO has said he's in no rush to roll out in the UK so we might be waiting a while.
I collected mine on upgrade from eMobile on Grafton Street on saturday. Says its the meteor one though (i know they are the same network. Is it possible to check if its unlocked without trying a different sim?

Have you checked is it sim-locked? I am waiting for my handtec order, but really tired of waiting. I am on 3 and they don't have pay as you go version.
Hmm, has anyone acquired and Irish HTC One or got confirmed specs to see what LTE frequencies are supported - if at all?
I'm guessing it'll be the same as the UK model 800/1800/2600mhz. But Comreg Ireland sold the 800/900/1800Mhz bands for LTE, so maybe the One is different here? (I asked in 3 and CPW in Cork but no-one has a clue )
Well mine is the M7_UL / PN07100 model which is the LTE version. I know LTE is due to go live within the next 3 months, but no idea on specs.

It's also not 10am EST yet. May have something to do with whether or not it shows up in their system.
I'm going with this one because of the great price(64gb) and unlocked bootloader.
I cancelled my preorder with handtec, worth the extra 1 week wait.
I wish I could get this in Canada
Does anyone know about the international warranty status of the Dev Edition?
Anything different from regular warranty?
I'm really on the fence here. I love the idea of owning a limited edition dev phone from HTC, but I don't really need 64GB of storage and the price just seems unreasonable right now since there's the $100 trade in offer and free accessories form AT&T and T-Mobile when you pre-order through them.
I really need someone to clarify this for me. Does Dev phone will get HSPA+/4g and LTE or it will only get 2g and LTE in some area?

Factory unlocked note 3 vs carrier note 3

So finally the Note 3 is comeing in October. I've been a loyal note user ever since the first one. To the point, whats the difference between factory unlocked note 3 and a carrier branded note 3? Besides not being able to use with another carrier with the branded phone. Is it true you dont get all the carrier bloat such as apps n all that usless junk? And dose the factory unlocked version of phones cost more?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Unbranded phones do not have carrier bloatware, no carrier-based branding (such as the startup logo and tune) and no simlock.
In the EU there is no simlock on a branded phone, as the EU forbids it. And you can just flash unbranded firmware to get rid of the rest. In the US a branded phone is Locked and has a different model number.
Branded phones are actually more expensive. If you count the difference between a Sim Only subscription, and a subscription with a phone, you'll note that the price for a phone-based subscription is more expensive overal. Obviously, as leases and loans are always more expensive.

I don't know about the Netherlands (or the rest of Europe for that matter), but in France all carrier branded phones are sold SIM locked. And it is a simple matter to get the phone unlocked past the first 3 months and each operator has a page where you can request the unlock code (it is a bit harder, and mostly longer if you request the unlock code once you've switched carriers, though).
Yuu can get rid off the bloat wares easily by rooting your phone.
Some carrier branded phone might have different specs (especially the US ones)

Well, I personally unlocked (legally through the carrier) at least three phones last year, and my mother had to do the same when she switched operator. I also own a nokia phone I bought in Spain 3 years ago and could never find the process to get it unlocked on the Telefonica website, even going through some Spanish friends!
I have nothing against it as long as it is possible to unlock the phone legally for free after a reasonable period of time (and 3 months seems fairly short). I guess it comes down to the wording of that law. I remember a few years back you'd have to pay a good deal for that...

The only difference (afaik) is that the Dev edition comes with an unlocked bootloader. Although the only way to get the gold color seems to be the unlocked variant. So do that if you have terrible taste.
You can boot loader unlock the unlocked model as well so don't see much difference.

You sure can, as a bonus you'll void your warranty and 'uh oh oy' protection.
does the purchase from htc.com require valid US address, card and contact no? I mean last time for suspicious orders they put things on hold and asked for a call to the CS.

Yes - the fine print on the site says it requires a US address. Not sure about a US card though, but they do require you to enter your billing address (which is US only as well).

In Canada, our credit card companies have the ability to add a valid secondary US address onto our profiles to avoid the hold issue. Can you do the same maybe?
