Hey! So recently I got a Samsung Galaxy J3 and was wondering if it was possible to get Xposed on it? Flashing a Zip is not an option, by the way.
Hey man, I'm right there with you, I want to know as well. I hope this thread gets more attention! I got this phone recently myself and am so far very sad at the lack of ability to do things with it root-wise, such as getting root to frickin stick and getting things like Xposed installed (with-out boot looping your device....).

The problem is that I don't have custom recovery either, and I'm not yet experienced enough to know how to flash something like xposed without it, without bootlooping. I actually already have the xposed you're talking about, wanam is what I need since im on 5.1, so if someone guides me on how to flash it or at least points me in the right direction, maybe that'd help.
Also as a side question, somewhat related to this, anyone know what I should do about custom recovery? There are models close to mine but not the exact same that are covered by TWRP or CWMR, but I've been very strongly advised against such a course of action.

I'd recommend TWRP, actually. If your device doesn't have a custom recovery developed, it could be a pain. Just hoping if someone could develop it one for your device.

I would agree with you, as I had TWRP on my last phone and liked it quite a bit. I just don't know which phone's TWRP to try and how to try and flash it on there. Do I do it through Odin? Theres (if I recall correctly) a TWRP for the Samsung Galaxy J2 and J5, on either side of my J3 (Which it's so odd that the newer phone came out with a "series" number in the middle like that). Which would you suggest I do, J2 or J5, or neither?

Me being dumb, I tried manually installing the required files for Xposed a few weeks ago and it bricked immediately. So I had to get a replacement. I'm not sure if it's because I did it wrong but based on that I don't think we'll ever be able to install Xposed which really sucks. Coming from my previous phone which had a lot of tweaks from xposed it just feels weird using a normal phone.

I know what you mean. Every time I restart my phone I have to re-root it if I want to do something with it. Luckily I don't really need root on this phone. Mainly because of the lack of things you can do with it. Hoping to see something come out of this though

I know exactly what you both mean. My previous crappy phone had loads of things from xposed on there that I missed. However the good news I guess is since I don't need certain UI tweaks because I'm satisfied with what this phone comes with I'm not missing out on too much. And thus far every time I get bootloop I just use Odin to flash a copy of the original firmware and somehow it doesn't reset everything so I can still keep trying without losing all my apps. Just haven't found anything that sticks. Maybe one of us should try a custom recovery from a different Samsung Galaxy J Series like the 2 or 5.

Yeah I mainly used Xposed on my previous phone to make it look more like Lollipop but since this phone comes with it I don't need it as much. And I didn't know you were able to unbrick this phone? I would have saved about $40 if I knew that ? well then yeah we should probably try one of them. I think we should go with the newest one though
Thats what I was thinking, but I don't know which J series came out before the J3 this year or I'd try that one. And yep, luckily able to unbrick it thanks to Odin. Actually unbricked it from even worse than a boot loop, I accidentally destroyed my recovery somehow so I couldn't even boot into that and do a factory reset, but thankfully Odin's separate from the recovery so it still worked. End of the day if you can at least get your phone recognized by your computer and can flash something onto it, flashing stock = unbrick (usually).
I own the J3 also. Have gained temp root via king root so I could debloat the system. We need a cf auto root option. Our device is 5.1.1 and I think the kernel has to be modified for true root. Then development can start. As for xposed,you need full root for that to work properly. I suggest to you all to get a copy of the device firmware,install odin on pc so you can reinstall firmware if you decide to use temp root and end up boot looped after debloating to much or making other potentially harmful changes.

I have the same thing, temp root that's lost when I reboot. I've already had to go the Odin route with the original firmware so I've got my backup covered. I'm also working with the dev behind Super Sume and he thinks he has the issue resolved, if not he's going to teamview with me to try and get past this. If we manage to solve the problem I'll post the results and subsequent steps here. Hopefully this will lead to root sticking through reboot. If so then at minimum may be able to solve -some- of the problems. Though I don't know if this will fix Xposed not working, as it always caused me to boot-loop in the past (only solved by going into TWRP and rebooting from there) and even if root sticks the only way to flash Xposed according to current theories is to do so from custom recovery, which I haven't found one for this device yet.
Have you been able to get a custom recovery on your J3? If so that would be the other key part to solving a lot of these problems. If I get the Super Sume to work and someone else can manage to get a custom recovery working, maybe that'll be the start of this device's support here =D.
No but I believe by repacking an edited firnware you can add xposed that way.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know the first thing about editing a firmware, much less be able to add Xposed lol. Could that be a way to manually add custom recovery? Or are we still dependent on someone making a version compatible with this phone?
will need a custom recovery built for the device. with proper root you could then use flashify to install it to the device. root opens the door for everything. temp root will never get much except ability to debloat the device.

Ive been seeing that too and ignoring/swiping it away. Not sure what it is though.

Not at the moment. There is a root method, but no factory image to flash back to.

We all just have to be patient! It's not the end of the world, rooting it allows you to remove some bloatware, then you can install themes and launchers to make it a little better!~
You can still tweak the device so it's enjoyable!
Think hard before you root it. There is currently no way to unroot. There also is no odin flashable firmware should you get into trouble and need to recover from it. Read a lot in this forum before you attempt to root. Everyday there are multiple users who run into trouble and end up with a crippled phone at best.

Tons and tons of uninformed people are messing up their phones. You're right, it's sad.
It will be great when people can comfortably root their device knowing there is a way back when all is said and done.
In the mean time, to the OP, playing the waiting game will not kill anyone in this situation.

Agreed, if most would have read just a little, they would not be having this issue. For me, I always wait until a dev gets a hold of an update and does their thing, and then I update to the newest...I have NEVER updated direct on the phone, even with all the phones I have ever owned.
Not happening OP, do a search on MF3 in the search bar you will find all kinds of things related to it.
I just want to say, if you root your MF3 phone, do NOT modify anything in the system partition, which means files that require root to edit. If you happen to do some sort of mod that borks your system, it will be very difficult and perhaps impossible to recover. Don't do anything that can't be undone with a factory restore done in recovery.
I'm fairly certain that it is possible to unroot once rooted, however, your phone and system partition must be in full working order and unmodified in order to be at complete stock. If you are new to rooting and customizing the phone in that matter, you are probably best not rooting at the moment, since you will likely mess something up on accident while learning. I think most every single one of us has borked our OS while tinkering with root stuff and had to use some sort of recovery method. At the time, no recovery method is possible, so I repeat, don't root if you don't know what you're doing.

As long as you're a smart cookie and don't go around attempting to mod your twframework and other important inner system files, I wouldn't get too disheartened and held back from touching the partition. Simply be intuitive and anything you intended on replacing, rename instead to the file with a *.temp extension. Wouldn't be that hard to roll back then (as long as you can still boot). Rooting itself mods the system, so people have already jumped ship in that regard.
Just don't go around trying to enable verbose boot or flash a recovery from some kind of mobile ODIN or GooManager.
BE SMART, not eccentric and living by the standards of yolo.

I REALLY want to root my phone to help test out the beta of f.lux. You can look it up if you want, should take you a a peachy orange page. Anyway, I really want that on my phone, and it needs root, and I've NEVER rooted a phone before, and I'm not sure what I'm doing.
I want to follow [this guide](http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-Root-the-Verizon-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3_id48247) PhoneArena link, but it doesn't say what android version it needs, and that worries me.
One more thing, I downloaded a file called "fastboot" and it has something to do with ADB that disables certain apps so that I'm not nagged to update. I'm on 4.4.4, and I can't find that file, I think it's in the root of C:\ but I ran them and it didn't work. So if I could reenable those apps to get on lollipop or marshmallow, if rooting would be easier, I'd do that. I've searched the forum, but I need baby steps.

If you're just looking to try out f.lux you could give Cf.lumen a try first. It has a non-root mode.
If you want to root you can just flash a custom recovery like TWRP with Odin.

You say, just flash, as if there is no risk. I want to get it right, no bricking. I'm on 900V (V for verizon), and I want a quick safe way to root. Also, thank you for mentioning Cf.lumen, I do have it, and the nonroot looks like ****, yes it works, but it's not remotely the same.

I recommend visiting TWRP's website and pick out the latest version for your device and then flash the latest non-beta version of SuperSU which you can find here on XDA. Flash TWRP with Odin and then boot into recovery and simply reboot, it will then ask you if you'd like to root your device.
What model do you have? Find your model first then download TWRP recovery. Use odin to flash the recovery, then flash super su.

You need Root for TWRP to backup .

First things first, EXACTLY what Note 3 model do you have? Go to Settings -> About -> Device model. If it is SM-N9005, that would be quite surprising, because we didn't get a 4.4.4 build.
American Note 3s got a 4.4.4 build, N900A, N900V (AT&T Note 3 and Verizon Note 3 respecitevly), and the methods for rooting THEM has nothing in common with the way a N9005 or N900 is rooted.
900V. Verizon, 4.4.****ing4. I had .3 but it kept nagging me to update like trial software and that was probably the end of my chances as I recall I most likely have a locked bootloader so I may not be able to do any of this.
Why can't I make a full backup on stock android anyway, seems like the responsible thing to do.
Verizon then use the verizon forum anything from here is wrong and may brick your phone .
Full backup requires a modified recovery therefore no longer stock .
Ah so it's the stock recovery that is used. So why do you think that lacks options for a full backup?

Wondering if anyone in the know has heard of any development going on for this device? I recently bought one and it's not a bad phone for the price, but I've seen absolutely -nothing- on it anywhere online for the most part. It's barely root-able with what I've been able to find, and no custom recovery or really anything custom has popped up that I've seen.
Not sure if it's just that it's been only a few months since the phone came out, or if it's just not that great a phone. I upgraded from an HTC Desire 510 to this, and it was heavily customized/rooted/etc, and I want so badly to get back to where I was with it on this phone I cant stand it!

Right now rooting isn't the problem so much as keeping root. Because apparently the colonel has protection and will remove root whenever you reboot. That means things that require root on boot like backups, Xposed and a lot of other things won't work for us until someone complies a kernel with root protection removed. You can do some debloating and possibly the AdAway but that's about it right now.

That sucks. I upgraded from an LG Volt and I was able to do a whole bunch of stuff on it. The J3 is still very new, so hopefully development will happen soon.

I guess that would depend on what you have experience with and what you can do. Thus-far root has been able to be achieved with Kingroot, though it wont stick through a power cycle (reboot/power off/etc), and using any of the methods available (at least that I'm aware of, only found two legitimate ones) to replace Kingroot with SuperSU (to facilitate having root stick past the reboot hopefully) causes a soft-brick every time forcing a re-flash of stock firmware through Odin.
At the very least make your voice heard, if nothing else hopefully more popularity will come this devices way and we'll see some development for it. My roommate is considering writing something for it, but it is a long process working solo, so anyone who has experience working with kernels or editing stock rom/writing custom roms feels up to helping out, shoot me a message and I'll get it over to him. He's a fairly experienced programmer and picks up what he doesn't already know pretty quickly.
Got one recently too. Would also appreciate any more information on rooting.

Everything is great except a lag issue with supersu. There is an exposed by wanum that works as well. Only app that has root issue so far is ES File Explorer. This version of TWRP won't work will it? Totally different phone?
EDIT: just realized the guy above has the same question... something tells me we won't see root on the ATT/cricket variants for a while.

Try official TWRP of galaxy J2. Your variant shares the same specs as J2. Others also did this to galaxy On5, it works 100%.
what about the
SM-J320VPP = the verizon pre paid planversion. any working roots for me yet?

So can you confirm this method works? Does OEM unlock setting in dev options unlock the bootloader on AT&T variant? If so couldn't I temp root and flash TWRP via Flashify?

It doesn't work tried it 3 times. I even tried other ones no luck. They locked this thing down. Im surprise chainfire haven't tried this phone yet.

I rooted it with Kingo Root. Kingo Root stated that it successfully rooted the device, but the phone OS had given me warnings about unauthorized access to the device or something.
One week later (I did *not* reflash the phone nor install any applications after I rooted the phone) I found the phone stuck in an annoying bootloop. The device status is still "official" and the Knox counter is still set at 0x0.
Now that it's bootlooping I'd like to know if it's possible to take the applications and files off the phone before I factory reset it. It's not looking hopeful as I read similar threads from 2012 saying that once other Android devices bootloop, getting stuff off of them is impossible. I tried using ADB to take data off the phone (while Odin3 was detecting it being connected to the PC) but ADB doesn't detect the phone. Should I try a different cable?

Best advice would be to try flashing the stock firmware with odin. That shouldn't delete any of your data and will usually fix a bootloop. You can Google your phones stock firmware and see if you can download it.

Best advice would be to try flashing the stock firmware with odin. That shouldn't delete any of your data and will usually fix a bootloop. You can Google your phones stock firmware and see if you can download it.

Thank you so much! I tried using Odin to flash a software update and it worked perfectly. The phone is back up and running and all of the files are still there!
Right now i have TWRP 3.0.2 with supersu and i havent lost root yet also had no problem switching between backups, xposed working fine and also overclock too with setcpu, im currently running 5.1.1 using j320FN but TWRP was from j320F, i will put up links to the files if any of you are willing to try its up to you.

Remember to turn on usb debugging and turn on oem unlock before flashing recovery, also if you manage to get recovery press they grey box on the right to change language to english. Hope this might help somebody on here because we really need full root for everyone.
ok, so there are some things i've found out by doing some research and combining what i found on here with the issues that some people were having with the Cricket version of the LG Stylo, and would like to share with you guys. while i was rooting my phone with kingroot, i noticed a threat that discussed that using supersu me and supersu wasn't an option without soft bricking your phone with a boot loop, after some research and trial i figured out how to get around the problem. The issue was the uninstallation of kinguser app form the phone, this is because using supersu me uninstalls kingroot and replaced it with the superuser binaries, but it leaves some core files of kinguser behind which causes errors, an if you keep your phone on, you'll notice that you'll start getting error messages for an about kingroot permission and all types of errors until your phone starts to freeze and act up. there is an easy fix for it all that worked for me, and would like to share this information and help people having this issue.....
I'm posting this as a hint for those who needed the help with installing xposed on cricket model LG STYLO only running 5.1.1
so to begin, download system repair 2016 and apps2sd from play store, kinguser directly from their site so it will be the latest version,,,root your phone,,,,,don't delete the kinguser apk you downloaded you'll need it for later,,,,now install supersu me from the play store and open and run it, it'll uninstall kinguser and replace the binaries for superuser, this is where its gonna become tricky,,,,,,download supersu and run which will ask for update of binaries also let it finish updating and uninstall the supersu me control,,,,,now open apps2sd and clear the davik cache and other caches without restarting,,,,then run system repair 2016, it'll show that you had a few errors because kinguser hates the fact that supersu me uninstalled it and left messed up configurations on your phone, then clear the davik cache again, now you have to use the same kinguser apk you get at the start of the process and reinstall it to your phone, or else you will be getting a boot loop issue......for some reason even though all the caches are cleared and the system has been checked for errors, the kinguser app installs itself as a system app, a dependency if you will, like a basic LG/Cricket app that if you uninstall will cause errors, so but reinstalling it we stop that problem, you can run it but don't need to activate the root option of kinguser......this will cause the kinguser permission errors to stop also from this point only you can restart your phone,,,,,now you're able to install flashfire and xposed frameworks, and even restart your phone without worry of boot looping since there isn't much support for the LG-H634 stylo model.........:angel::angel:

ok i'm not sure how you guys got bricked, but i just got bricked using flahfire to create backup, so don't use that app as of yet, but anyways working on the replacement now, gonna be trying to create a restore img or flashable zip for the cricket stylo.

I got bricked, trying to change from kingroot to SU, I´ll really appreciate when you find solution give us instructions on how you did it!!
Have you guys any luck with a recovery method? And think you for helping I'll do my best with what I have. Also idk if I mentioned it earlier but when I reboot lg symbol appears but (authentication failed #9) appears below it. It was roted via king root and didn't o anything but remove some bloatware. Idk God be with you man cuz this is a bummer

I'm pretty sure that you ended up with brick because you didn't unlock your bootloader before backing up. My girlfriend did the same thing. As of right now I'm trying to figure out If there's a way past the bootloader or at least a way to do everything the bootloader can do without unlocking it.

Can we not flash the original firmware via download mode ? I had this phone (bought from a friend, cricket sim unlocked, phone bricked while i was playing around. )
I'm not super familiar with LG phones, but i keep hearing about a KDZ , is that some kind of official image format ?
If we can flash it for stock via download mode, can someone direct me as to where I might find instructions for our variant of the device, please ?
I was able to replace Kingroot with SuperSu using a guide I found on a website called w0lfdroid, I think. I just Google 'replace Kingroot with SuperSu and it was the second one down (I'm a new user so I can't post the link). I think it worked pretty well, but I'm still not able to flash TWRP or start the process to get xposed. If I can't get it, I might unroot and try the process again with this method.

works great, after flashing with LG Flash tools tot method just take out battery and wait 5sec, and put it back in and turn on, android logo will show and then it will boot normally, now i'm back to working on the supersu install methods to help people from bricking, wish me luck . also backing up boot img and then trying to use super sume to switch to still will cause boot looping to my knowledge. got 2 phones working on it, thanks to our annonomous LG guys for the unbricking

well not really, because if you go into the developer options there is the oem bootloader unlock you can select, not sure but i've got a cricket and boost version i've been working on it for a while, for some reason the phone doesn't like the way SU gets injected into the phone, and writes things to the wrong areas, i've been playing with some scripts for superuser installers from zip, hopefully i get a hit.

I noticed there is no solution posted. I recently bricked my phone and fixed it, thanks to you. I was simply wondering of there has been progress with getting the framework installed. Your help is much appreciated.
So I'm sort of confused... I cannot install xposed, and can't seem to find a work around. I am rooted but not with kingroot. I used a one click root tool on pc, and works great... Using su that is suggested using in this guide, so no trace of king root. Idk, could someone give me a quick run down on how to install xposed?

So far I am rooted with Super SU and have exposed installer I'm just having a hard time getting the framework installed. I do not have custom recovery installed. Is there any way to flash the framework zip file with like flashify or another app like that?
Let me start by saying I never gave rooted phones much though. I knew of them but never even knew anyone that ever had one. I figured the Galaxy S8 (G950U) would be a good phone to start with:laugh: Since it was my first rooted phone I couldn't resist experimenting, a lot. So I would flash this flash that, whatever I thought had a very small chance of working i flashed, lol. I usually would end up having to fireing up Odin and flashing the most important files on my PC, Partcyborg's awesome work, which I can flash with my eyes closed basically by now :laugh: Some things I would flash would just cause me to lose root though. It's driving me nuts not to be able to get it back without Odin. I could use Odin+Partcyborg's rom and have it back in 15 minutes, but I'm tired of being feed I'm ready to hunt, lol.
The thing is, I still have TWRP Safestrap custom recovery that I can access. I flash Supersu, it appears to flash fine but changes nothing, not even an SU icon in the app drawer. I did make SupoerSU Pro a system app a while ago, was that a mistake? I see it in the Apps list in Settings but I can't do much there except disable it and enable it (no it's not disabled,lol)
How can I get root back using custom recovery only? What should I have checked in Safestrap when flashing SuperSU?, Cache, System, Modem, etc? If anyone would care to explain some of the reasons I lose root but not custom recovery it would really calm my curiosity . I'm sure it would help a lot of other noobs also.
Boot animations is another thing that I find very interesting. Trying to change it has been the cause of at least 10 factory resets
I go to /system/media/ and swap out Booitanimation.zip, change the permission then I either get no change or I have reflash with Odin. What is all the files labeled Battery _000 Battery _001 Battery_002 all the way to Battery_100? Does the resolution need to be exactly the same as stock?
Is my rooted S8 not as rooted as other rooted phone? Lol, does that sentence make sense? Because of its locked bootloader and lack of custom roms is why I ask. Am I an idiot for buying a S9+ (G965U) since I love having root? I was hoping someone "cough...Part...cough cough...cyborg would be on it. If not though, no big deal. I do still have the S8 and still use it a lot even though it has no service, lol. Amazing phones not so amazing bootloaders though:laugh:

so the boot animations off top of my head are now located in something something and your carriers folder...The can be changed

I have had it where the prompt never comes up and granting all just never works either normally a few reboots later it starts....
the custom rom thing is most def cause of locked boot-loader....
Up til boot-loader revision 2 is all we have root for and cannot be downgraded 3 and up....
I have myself tried flashing stock system img and then su and busy box from safe strap and up til now even this has been a no go...
Safe-strap is cool but basically No better than flashfire.IMO.
I am working with the possible bluetooth fix right now and have bricked and flashed 20 times over in the last 12 hours...
It actually is not rooted anymore after I flashed what claimed to be a boot animation for the G950U. If I open the SuperSU app it points me to a non-working site that has directions on "How to root". Plus all of the apps I have downloaded that require root all tell me I'm not rooted. Oddly enough though I was able to flash Xposed and had a green light once I opened it, (remember I still had SafeStrap recovery) it could only be accessed manually. I was shocked and yet even more confused, lol. I only tried out 2 modules before I reflashed Partcyborgs files again. Again, I was very confused as to why the modules actually worked but root only apps would start , only Xposed modules. I did only try 2 though AdBlocker Reborn and SpeedUp, both acted as if everything was normal . I wonder if it had something to do with making SuperSU a system app, which it no longer is since I reflashed with Odin.
Thanks for the info on the Bootanimation, but still I can't even delete the one I have now, for educational purposes only, Haha. It is a pretty freaking sweat bootanimtion Partcyborg included. I can't find it though T-Mobile (G950U) btw
