the return of mhl? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

been searching and there is nothing mentioned about mhl output or any other type of video/sound output. It was left out of the s6 lineup as well as the note 5, and i really hope it makes it return, such a great feature. if anyone sees or hears anything on the subject, please let me know!

Doesn't look like it. Their website shows the MHL are not compatible
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

i know that the note 5 doesn't have mhl / hdmi capabilities but then i saw this http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/skp/faq/1087324 i hope yhis will work on s7 edge

@olmoney
I called twice about this same web page and was told that it was a Canadian website and that they cannot answer whether or not they had different accessories in Canada. I've called twice trying to reach the Canadiens but my calls again Auto routed to the American call center by a phone number profiling program this prevented me one time and call times for letting me another time.
I just got done typing about 250 words describing my hole coming to find out about that exact web page and presenting it to the people at Samsung America I went to go and post it in advance d after starting it as a quick reply, but later wanting to use your quote about they got rid of it on the note 5 as i use this. Then my entire post got erased upon the page change.:crying:

its a shame, i loved using my note 3 with tv out to my brookestone pico projector for outdoor movies, all on batteries. I'll have to test hotspoting and chromecasting to see if there is any lag.

Is my phone being tapped?

Very strange occurrence the other day...
I'm in a meeting with my Director and Deputy Director. My Director gestures to my 8525 and tells me to call one of my co-workers who's across the country so we can include him in the dialogue. I phone his cell, hit Speakerphone, and hand my device to him.
After a few mnutes of conversation, his blackberry starts to ring. He hands my phone back to me to take the other call, and disappears into his adjacent office. The Deputy Director asks for my phone so he can continue the conversation with the other guy.
Two minutes later, my Director emerges from his office with an astonished look on his face. He says " I can hear THAT conversation " (pointing to my phone) "on my line."
I tried to find out if the call he received on the blackberry was actually a call, or if the only thing he heard when he answered was my cellphone's conversation, but the only thing he said was "it came up as a private number". FWIW, my own number is not blocked. He's not an easy man to speak with, so I dropped the questioning there.
Anyway ... has such a thing ever happened to anyone else here? Can anyone provide any explanation? This one has me baffled ... and obviously somewhat concerned about the security of the calls I make/receive.
Thanks to anyone who can provide an explanation,

That is really strange. The only thing somewhat close to that, that has happened to me was many years ago on a wireless landline and my neighbors wireless landline. Whenever I'd be on the phone speaking with someone, he could pick up his phone next door and hear the whole conversation. I know it's not exactly what you experienced, but it's true that any kind of wireless signal can get crossed pretty easily.
I can't say this is what's going on with you specifically, but i do know that there is software that can be sent remotely to any cell phone without the owner knowing about it. This software can then be used by the person who sent it to the phone and they can listen to any and all calls you make, read and record all emails, text messages, and even utilize the microphone on your device to pick up conversations you're having when you're not on your phone. For example, you have your phone charging across the room and you & your spouse/friend/etc... are having a conversation across the room well the "hacker" can activate the microphone and pick up the conversation. There is even an ability to activate the built in camera's etc....
I know all of this sounds totally bogus and i thought it was as well until there was a somewhat recent national news story on it. It was on the msnbc website as a major story not to long ago and even had a video segment you could watch. Apparently this software is marketed as a way to "catch your cheating spouse" and it's from what they said very expensive to use. The story they were covering specifically was about a teenage girl who constantly recevied phone calls that were threatening her and the caller would be able to play back converations that she had when sshe wasn't even on the phone. Very Very Very CRAZY stuff! I'll see if i can find the link to the news article and i'll post it. It still blows my mind.
Also, blackberry's are a specifically easy phone to deploy the software on as well.....
i'll post the article if i can find it
One thing it happened to me is that a guy phoned a friend with my number. Is it possible? I was not in the town, and of couse i had my mobile in my pocket in the whole process...
Is this hack possible?
Do you guys know cases like this? poeple getting black mailed or listeners in companies head quarters... hehe Xfiles!
ok i found a the specific video i was referring to. it was on nbc. here's the link
http://video.nbc10.com/player/?id=122710
for some reason the video seems to load slow but be patient it will load....
I also found this new's article http://www.clickpress.com/releases/Detailed/40926005cp.shtml
and in this article it refers to a news broadcast of a family on the morning show and provides you with a link to a youtube video http://www.clickpress.com/releases/Detailed/40926005cp.shtml

yes i know that this is possible for a fact. I've actually had someone do it to me as well and finally convinced them to show me how. Basically it's called caller id spoofing and some websites will show you how to do it for free. other's like www.spoofcard.com charge a small fee but allow you to do it as well. i've actually seen a news story on this as well.... I'll see if i can find it. here's link to an article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11624504/
heres a link to the first video i could find....

two options:
1. the person you called added him to the conversations (confrence).
2. a very rare networking problem - got 2 complaints about it it at work(in 4 years)
WOW! This is a real eye-opener! Thank you utexascg (and others), for the very infomative articles.
I guess it's time for the AV companies to cash-in on the new tech-treachery that's available. And I guess ... if the common joe can pull this stuff off nowadays, imagine what the NSA and other governmental departments could do.
Now we'll need 800MHz processors to do the work while we have firewalls running in the background.
This is pretty scary stuff.

Hmmm, the first COULD be possible, except HIS number would not have been blocked (private).
That leaves #2. Can you provide some details about how it happens?

about the first - you did say he was out of the country - caller Id isn't relayed abroad most of the times.
about two - I don't know how or why(and I have no proof only the complaint).

No... not out of the country ... we are in Jersey, he's in SanDiego. His Caller ID SHOULD show up ... unless he's using that spoofing stuff
Hmmm ... OK. I hope somebody else can chime in with some ideas.
FWIW ... doubt it makes any difference, but the blackberries and my 8525 are on two different carriers. BB's are on t-mob, 8525 is on Cing/AT&T
Thanks for the input, elivne,

9 functions super-multi-adapter

What do you think of this item :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=160314536910 ?
Has anyone tried it ?
Yup. Comes stock with the ATT Fuze. I think you have to edit the registry to allow video output with the adapter. Iv long forgottn, but yes it does work as advertised. Allows charging while using headphone jack which is nice for that nap on the couch, or playing movies on a tv.
i ordered one of these 1st one did not come but got 2nd one.absolute rubbish is all i can say.The on board mic is an anoying waste of time as u cant switch it off,an annoying humm comes through the sound to the tv in tv mode(pic not bad),dose not sound as good as inline 3.5 adapter allso dose not allow booster and it is ruddy hugeso forget useing it in yer pokket so i would not recomend it but thats my experiance off it
cablesmith warning
I tried to order that cable but all I got was the confirmation that PayPal paid him. Nothing after that. No communication, no response to emails, and obviously no cable. Filed dispute with PayPal and keeping the details up to date on www.myspace.com/ebayscammed
I researched this after I ordered mine several weeks ago before he stopped selling them and found where someone had written this, which was same experience for me as well:
"The one I got from cablesmith worked great for me. He had a close family member pass away and just didn't take care of business stuff for a couple of weeks. When I finally got the device I noticed it seemed to give an audible hum on the TV, but I read the instructions provided and was able to take care of it by putting the volume on the phone all the way up with the TV volume down a bit. All functions work perfectly as advertised."

Shaky/crazy touch sensitivity

Hi guys, first post.
Would first like to say that this forum has been really helpful for anything Android related as I always end up on it from googling.
Anyway, after having said that I google, I could not find anyone here with this similar problem I have. At least, I'm not sure how to describe it, but I've made a video.
My touch screen's sensitivity goes haywire sometimes. It's worse on the right side of the screen, and nearly non-existent on the left.
It is virtually eliminated by a simple screen off/screen on, but starts to happen randomly later.
Makes me wonder if it's software related? Though since no one else is experiencing it as far as I've googled, I'm thinking it's hardware but I really hope not.
Anyway, here's some youtube video (just add the youtube URL at the beginning; can't post links since I'm a new user). It's most evident when I'm trying to move large widgets. You'll see me try to either hold the widget still or drag it around, which result in erratic movement/touch-releases/home screen changes. The second one is worse:
/watch?v=blYGFpqmssw
/watch?v=riAbRBLLNOM
I really don't want the hassle of returning and playing a gamble considering all the fiasco there is with lifted screens and what not; everything is fine, no dead pixels, and this isn't that of a major problem. I bought this at a local Walmart and have until the 18th till my 14 days are over; after that it's ASUS warranty. I was thinking of just bearing with this since it's minor and arrange a warranty service once craziness ends later in the year but I'm not sure how that'll go either.
Also, if someone else has or knows of this kind of problem, can you kindly redirect me? Since this problem is hard to explain in words, it's also hard to google it.

I have the exact same issue. My first Nexus was fine but I had the issue of only one channel on the headphone jack. Didn't matter how hard I pushed in the plug. The replacement jumps all over the place a reboot seems to help for a bit so I don't know that it is hardware but a wipe of the device didn't help.
---------- Post added at 01:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:46 PM ----------
For what it is worth, I just called Google and they are going to send me a new one. The lady that assisted me stated that she has had a few complaints with this issue and that they just replace it. N7 #3 should be on the way in a couple days. For some reason she said that the device wasn't set up properly in my profile so it will add a couple days to the process because of the long weekend.
Not a big deal. I have lived with it for a while now. At least they appear to be taking care of it and I wasn't transferred to Asus. At least yet.

IKWEAR IK8 MTK6577 Smart Phone Watch 1.54 Inch Android 4.0

This IK8 Watch Phone looks a lot like a ZGPAX or EC-309, but the camera points across the band instead of from the front and I think it has a faster processor.

I haven't seen any other mention of it here on XDA.
Does anyone know if it is a rebrand of something else that I'm missing here?
It's fast. I've been able to use Google Hangouts on it, even with video. Zello works with no problems and even sounds good. I'm going to get a SIM for it and see how well the phone works.
Biggest drawbacks are lack of support for Google Voice and Voice Search. I've been able to workaround most of the other issues. This appears to be a common issue for this type of phone, and it's a big disappointment here. I'd love to find a way to get those messages. Has anyone solved this?
I got mine at http://www.geekbuying.com/item/IK8-...4-0-512MB-RAM-4G-ROM-5MP-GPS-WIFI-325392.html but you'll likely find a place that ships more quickly than Geekbuying.

I own a ZGPAX s5 and I see this watch on ebay as well.
For the processor they are the same :MTK6577 1GHz Dual Core
Both IK8 and s5 actually run the same system as well (android 4.0.4)
They look different just because of different default launchers.
I just root mine and use Launcher 8 instead.
The real difference should be the position of the camera.
Both camera are 2MP and 5MP interpolated.
s5 is better for selfies and Skype while IK8 is better for taking photo shots.
Both are 2G as well.
They even share the same battery!!! ZGPAX s5 got 500mAH and 700mAH and IK8 should be 700mAH
You can take a look of this
http://www.ikwear.com/wangzhanjianshe/1.html
It should be a rebrand product.
The best solution is to mix the two products' camera into one LOL
Then I can selfie and take normal shot!!!
Cheers!

Got a couple of quick questions if you don't mind. I find some interest in this smartwatch
1 How do you like this smartwatch now?
2 I noticed on a youtube video that this smartwatch seems to have a sort of hidden menu button and back button located at the bottom of display. Am I correct?
Any thing else you would like to comment on would be appreciated.
Thanks

1. It is stand-alone watch phone, android v4.04 system, high definition touch screen, high resolution camera, you can use it smoothly and freely like a smartphone.
2. There is menu button and back button on the side of the watch, not at the bottom of display. And you can touch the screen to get what you want...

I've been using the IK8 for a few days now, and I discovered that there is definitely a menu- and back-button located directly underneath the display. In fact, they often get in the way while trying to touch lower areas of the screen .
Is this $120 the same one on AliExpress?
it gives notifications when connected to a phone?
It says 700mah battery. .. many days use do you get from it?
I got mine from Aliexpress It's super fast for me just two days to arrive to Hong Kong! I ordered another one earlier before from Chinavasion to Scotland and it takes me four days.

Looks like the same device to me. Just be cautious since this seller has only received feedback once. I'm not sure if this deal is legit, especially since the price is incredibly low. The IK8 usually sells for about $135 - $145.
Since it's a standalone Android device, you don't need any additional phone running a companion app in order to receive notifications. Just insert your SIM card (regular SIM) and you're ready to go. If you'd like to pair the IK8 to your smartphone and receive notifications over Bluetooth, maybe it is possible to install the Osmart app which is originally developed for the Omate Truesmart. I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth giving it a try. XDA user 'KOAO' already had some success using this app with his ZGPAX S5, which is not that different from the IK8;
KOAO said:
I am successfully able to receive notifications from Emails, and texts. i haven't tried to reject a call yet. However, i used the Osmart Companion app from the omate truesmart. You download the companion app to you watch by loading the Ostore app on your watch(i might ....might link the APK file i extracted from the Truesmart OS)Then you go to the post at the bottom, join the group and then download the master app to your Andriod based smartphone. Then you pair them up and test. If successful, WIN if not then try again.

The original battery supplied with the IK8 is 500mAh in contrary to what is promised on most websites/shops, it's exactly the same type of battery as used in the ZGPAX S5, but I'm not sure if they are interchangeable since the plastic 'mounting clips' look a bit different. With WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS turned off and the screen set at the lowest brightness I get about 7 - 8 hours of battery life. But I haven't been using the device a lot yet, so I think battery life will probably increase.
I ordered my IK8 from Aurabuy and received it within 1,5 week (to the Netherlands with SingPost).
Edit: I came across several 'relabeled' versions of this watch lately. They are all exactly the same, but simply indicate different brand-names. For as far as I know, the IK8 Smartwatch is originally known as the TCW-006 and is being manufactured by Tecomax Electronics. This also explains the build-number visible in Android; TECO_V2.0_20140420.
haven't posted in xda for a while..let alone in the smartwatch section...but here we go. was in hong kong for a conference and decided to drop by the it shop. came across a host of smartwatches and just for fun picked up the ik8 for $90. haggled it down to $80 and figured i'd ditch it sooner or later. didn't play around with it until like 5 days later after i got back to melbourne. lo and behold, was actually quite surprised and impressed with it. my 2 cents worth:
display/interface
- not bad, quite responsive though i replaced the screen protector with a matte (anti-glare) one
- the small keyboard takes some getting used to but once you've used it you'll get around the limitations. i still make the occassional mistake but that's only when i'm using playstore
hardware
- camera is quite good though i have no plans of using it as i have my note 2
- speaker is surprisingly loud for such a small device
- one con i have is the lack of a 3.5mm jack. the built-in micro usb (for data transfer and charging) is also the plug for the earphones which comes with the watch. thus you can't really plug your own set of earphones...unless of course you use bluetooth
- quite light, watch strap is quite sturdy
- took in my 32gb microsd with no problem. pretty easy and straightforward in mounting the card
- same with the sim, but no plans on using the phone function
- don't think its "water proof" as some smart watches that claim to be (e.g. omate). but i'm not complaining.
internals
- i installed adw launcher which spiced up the homescreen (better than the default launcher). no hangs or whatever
- installed a bunch of widgets, just have to be careful as some are obviously built for larger screens. example, clokr (time widget) tends to not fit due to the length
- installed button savior to avoid using the hardware buttons. no need for root as i only need home, back and power off
- mx player works well, can actually watch a movie on it. no plans though as i have my note 2
- not planning on using this for music but poweramp works well on it. though there is sometimes a tendency for some icon labels to overlap given the small screen
gps
- i had to put a separate review on gps as i'm quite impressed with it
- installed navigon, apk had no problems loading. through wifi, the additional data and maps were installed
- also installed gps tester as well as other apps for cycling
verdict: gps signal takes around 1-2 minutes to get a good fix. the watch is able to lock on 4 satellites. accuracy is quite good but tends to be a little off when it's cloudy. the gps is not as spiffy as the one in my note but i'm not complaining. for a device this small, i was quite impressed how good the gps works
- strapped on the watch on my bike, used bikemate app. speed was quite accurate as well as keeping it locked on the satellites. didn't lose a signal as i cycled away
- had no issues with navigon. plotted home and the watch took me back to my house with no problems
haven't really tried out the full extent of the battery but without using wifi and gps, i was able to use it for 3 days before having the charge. with gps, battery went down to like 50% after riding for an hour or so. not bad in my opinion. overall, quite happy with it and i've now removed the speedo on my bike. no more wires and no more replacing batteries. this watch has now taken over the speed indicator duties for my cycling.
cheers
I got me one of these too, ordered from a Dutch guy who'd better pay back the import taxes caused by him drop-shipping it while pretending he had it in stock, or he'll be getting some negative publicity. Having to wait 3 weeks was bad enough.
I already had a ZGPAX S5 which I damaged, which is why I got this as a replacement. This is almost exactly the same hardware, as evidenced by the ability to restore a complete TWRP backup from the IK8 on my S5 with everything functional except the cell phone system. The IK8 is definitely the better of these two watch phones though: better build quality, no buzzing during calls, better cell signal reception, better clock & launcher system, no dead zone on the touchscreen. Definitely not waterproof with the gaping hole of the microUSB port, but it looks not as vulnerable to a few raindrops as the S5, whose screen doesn't even seem to be glued tight.
For the rest I concur with Robson, very good loudspeaker, the GPS is indeed impressively good and seems better than on the S5, at the condition that one does the usual dance of enabling EPO etc.
Can't login to Google PlayStore
The problem is that the teeny tiny keyboard is just too hard to navigate and when I try to switch the keyboard from alpha to numeric I get an "Android Framework has stopped" error message and the Google setup/sign-in app crashes and reloads.. Arrrggghh..
I tried installing two different Bluetooth keyboards to get around this problem but when you link the keyboards and go into the settings it will say "Use as input device" great, but when you go into "Languages and Input" to set the default to the Bluetooth keyboard the Bluetooth keyboard is NOT shown as an option just the default AOSP keyboard.. Can one of you guys help?? You know what a PIA it is to return anything to China so I just may be stuck with this which sucks because I can't use any of my Google apps (e.g. Gmail) which is why I bought this thing in the first place!
Any and all replies are appreciated!

I have tried to get Bluetooth keyboards and mice to work with two different phones that use this same chipset and Android version. My conclusion is that it is impossible. The devices pair, but the phone does not react to them. It looks like a fundamental bug in this Android release. If anyone has more success, I would certainly want to hear about it.
Your best option would be to install a half-size keyboard like Slidy Press, that has much bigger keys. Of course, installing the official version would require logging into the Play store first Your only option is to download the APK and install it from the file manager. I have made a customized version of Slidy Press available for download. I would post the link here, but for some reason the forum forbids this, so you will have to Google for this exact phrase between quotes: "I recommend installing Slidy Press" and you'll find the download link.
Unfortunately Google Framework Services has stopped

Thanks!!! I installed Slidy but I'm now finding that if I touch any key that appears in the lower left corner I get a "Unfortunately Google Framework Services has stopped" error and the app crashes. Any ideas???
Thanks again!!!

So, regardless of the keyboard you're using, it always crashes when you touch the lower left key? That is extremely weird. Do you also get strange things when you touch that location without keyboard? Maybe your screen is defective and you'll have to send it back anyhow…
i concur with lex, i've never had this problem despite installing multiple apps on the watch. in your posts you mentioned that the error message first came up when you tried switching from alpha to numeric. and again the message comes up when you touched a key in the lower left. coincidentally, both areas you touched are on the lower left portion of the screen. there might be something wrong with your device/screen. unless of course another app is somehow causing this issue? though somewhat related, i once installed usb toggle in my note 2. though rooted, it seems that my note didn't like the app and frequently crashed. i had to fix it up it to the point of going to the bootloader to wipe out the cache. in any case, uninstalled it and now my note functions well. the same could be for your watch. again, unless of course there's something wrong with your screen/device...in which case you should have the watch replaced.
at first in setting up my wifi connection, playstore id/password, etc..it was quite a burden. though the keyboard is small, you'll eventually get the hang of it. i still get the occassional mistake of pressing the wrong letter. but i rarely do this anymore since the watch has been set up to what i need it to do (which is mostly for gps).
the one thing i'm looking around for is trying to either deactivate or change the watch face. i noticed that this can be done for the sony smartwatch...i'm still trying to find a way for the ik8. no luck at the moment though...
Returning
Guys,
Thanks.. I've done a Factory Reset and the problem persists. I think the digitizer is faulty in that one spot so I'm sending mine back for another.. Will let you know if the next one acts up! Thanks for all of the replies!

IK8 Review
I wrote a review about the IK8 (I think I should be allowed to post links by now). Because I already had a ZGPAX S5 and the IK8 is very similar, the review mostly focuses on the differences between the two. The general conclusion however is that the IK8 is noticeably better in most aspects.
The review also contains a list of tweaks and hacks, and custom versions of the clock screensaver and launcher. Enjoy!

hey lex
thanks for sending that link to your review. I rooted the phone to change the watch face lock screen. I think somewhere along the line I sort of did something wrong because now the lock screen watch won't come up....which is a good thing! what I did was installed ADW Launcher and used a live wallpaper for a nice watch face. I kept the home screen free of any widgets. Swiping to the right then brings up a whole bunch of short cuts and widgets which I use.
cheers

Screen Flickering - Navifly 12.5inch - Android 11

Hello!
I have ordered a new Android 11 - 8Gb RAM 256Gb ROM - 12.5 inch screen for W205 Mercedes.
The OEM UI works fantastic, even the starting Android UI app selection works fine, but when I enter GooglePlay and login, the screen starts to flicker.
I download Youtube somehow, open it and watch a video - it works fine. Then I minimize the video and start scrolling the video search list, flickers again.
If I exit youtube, back to OEM screen - flickers are gone... but if I go back they appear again.
Any clues?
I will post two sample videos for reference

Unfortunately, the forum crystal ball doesnt know what you unit is and from the hundreds of made up models and brands, the seller could be selling units of different types, from different factories, despite branding with the same model name.
There are are a small number of active members in these forums, you want to be posting in a way that helps those people help you, they're likely tired of answering the same questions for new users that join, get answered (often not) and then leave.
Post screenshots from Android system information, including the MCU version when posting questions. Doing this will at least help others help you, or you might find the information has already been posted or discussed here, yourself.
Curious, what does the seller suggest when contacted for support.

Thank you and sorry for the non-detailed description. I was thinking it might just be a setting inside the android developer settings that someone might know straight from the video example. My fault...
I've also sent a message to the seller (aka "official navifly factory"), no reply yet.
As soon as I get to the car tomorrow I will post the rest of the info, also I will post the seller info if I get a reply by then.

What I've discovered is that when I turn on dark mode, it doesn't flicker as far as I've been able to test.
But when there is a google app with full white background (light mode), it tends to flicker...

Well... Even in China it is called Weekend... and they don´t work on Sunday.
On top they are something about 6 hrs a day in front (German summertime related) and if you are located in the US, you may have a time difference of 12 hrs, dependent on your location, so may be you will get an answer tomorrow.
Regarding your sent pictures: I fear there is not a single user who can help with this kind of issue. You need to wait for the seller and their statement.
Have you checked cpu temps etc. could potentially be overheating
Good point, @deadeye920
Does it only flicker in YouTube?

I will check the temps, it really does seem as if it works good in the first 30 sec to 1 min and then the black lines take over, so it would make sense

No, as far as I've seen, any Android app that has a strong white background will start flickering. I've switched the theme today to dark mode and the glitches weren't appearing.
For example, I would have GooglePlay entry screen in dark mode that isn't flickering with a 'login' button which would take me to a light theme (white background) Google login page that again starts flickering.
Going back to a dark screen removes these distortions again, as seen in video
When eye protection mode is on it works... I suppose the ribbon cable is defected?
Did you ever fix this issue? I have the same issue with the flickering black but mine show up as scrolling horizontal lines. I just installed an android unit 2 days ago I know it's not the same unit but your post is kinda similar to my issue. Thank you.

Would you know what the factory password is for this device? I bought a similar one Navifly, Snapdragon 662, 6/128 for and while I do not have any flickering, I need to set up the screen to show the original BMW screen with the correct resolution.
