Windows Server 2012 <-> Android via SMB and 3G network - Networking

Hello,
first of all, this is my current working setup:
- PC with Windows Server Essentials 2012 with shared folders (AD + domain) connected to ADSL router TPLINK W8970B (with active dynDNS account)
- Sony Z3 Compact (Android 5.1.1.), non-rooted
- ES FileExplorer and Solid Explorer
Now to my problem: I can connect to my PC shared folders (via ES and SE with exact local lan IP of PC) only when I`m using wifi on Z3, but for connecting to PC via 3G I`m trying using exact dynDNS address and enabled SMB ports in router forwarding to PC (445 and 139 TCP/UDP) with no success. Firewall in PC has those ports enabled, I can ping dynDNS address from 3G network too. What am I missing ? Or is it not possible at all ?

Seems it wont work according dynDNS : dyncommunity.com/questions/35068/dyndns-and-smb.html
Wheras SSH and HTTPS are normal internet capable protocols, SMB server access protocols are MS proprietary and not designed to work over the public internet as such, but designed for use within LANs. For example, Windows server expects to see an internal (AD) network name which you cannot provide when using a Dyn DDNS hostname.

But, I tried using direct IP address from dynDNS and it works then. At least some workaround...

Remote connection to home PC or work

How can i connect my home pc or work pc through my Pocket PC through GPRS.Is it possible by any software.
Yes, this is assuming you have set your home PC to accept incoming Remote connection, and selected which users has the permission.
From your Pocket PC, you can use Terminal Service Client:
- First of all, you must know your home PC's IP Address.
- Launch Terminal Service Client, key in your home PC's IP Address, click connect.
- Once connected, you'll be prompted username and password to log in.
- Always use a different username than the one already logged on, as this will log the current desktop session off.
Well, since most of us use Dynamic IP DSL connection, the IP address changes everytime the PC reconnects. Therefore I have made a small Windows program to be run in the home PC to constantly update its current IP address to a website. So, from anywhere you can log on to this site (just bookmark the site) and check your home PC's current IP address. If you're interested, you can try my program, it's free.

It's designed to fit a PPC browser.

Make sure, your XP Pro is set to accept Remote connection, from your XP Pro PC:
- Start > Control Panels > System > Remote > Remote Desktop
1) Check "Allow users to connect to my computer"
2) Click "Select Users" to add users which you allow for Remote Connection. * Strongly advise you to set password for each username
Once this is done. You can check your PC's IP address:
- Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
1) Type in ipconfig
2) You will the various IPs for your PC.
If you want to test using your Pocket PC, use your PC's LAN IP. (Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection).
However when your on WiFi or GPRS, you'll have to use your PC's WLAN IP, which you can obtain by using my program I mentioned earlier.
Thank you so much. But can itry to browse my PC dekstop while i have connected to Intenet and using Active Syn while i have docked my Pocket PC in the cradle.

Yes, you can. However, you'll still use your home PC's LAN IP when the PocketPC is docked in the cradle.
I have come out with the guide on how to use MyLastIP client and thet website:
http://www14.brinkster.com/MyLastIP/guide/guide.asp
Its realy nice job!!As you said to use Home PC Lan IP.I dont have netowrk on Ethernet card no cable pluged in.So i cant see Lan IP address. When I tried POcket PC Terminal its not connecting to Server,i was trying by USB Docked PPC.What to do
I gather your not connected to a LAN nor having an Ethernet card installed.
If you want to try out Terminal Services Client from your PocketPC, you may want to download this program called vxUtil from http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html
Once u get this program, you can view your Pocket PC's current IP addresses. If you want to use TSC via USB cradle, take a look under "Serial on USB", the IP address for its Default Gateway should be your PC's IP address.
VPN?
Great thread for me guys. Really helped a lot. Now I can use Terminal Services to remote control my VPN Server which has the public internet IP address.
Next, however, I need to remote operate one of the workstations on my VPN. I tried logging onto the VPN through GPRS that worked. I can TS remote the server, but cannot connect to the workstation. After connecting to the VPN I tried TS with the workstation ip (local network ip of 168.192.xx.xx All I got was a could not connect server timed out message. Any ideas?
Thanks
BTW the LAst IP Address web site is a great idea for us that travel constantly. Thankfully my cable modem keeps my IP address fairly static for long periods at a time. But this will make a great backup for those Murphy Law times when I gotta get on and the modem rebooted! Thanks for a great service.
Steve
Did anybody tried J-Desktop to access via Pocket PC?

Could it be a built-in or personal firewall installed on the workstation? or maybe the workstation's port for Remote Desktop is not opened?
VPN
No, no firewall and remote is open. In deed, I have VNC running on the workstation and after logging on to the vpn i can remote the workstation using vnc viewer. but i hate the interface compared to TS and don't really want to run another server if not necessary. btw i can run the workstation from my xp laptop using remoe desktop connection after logging ono the vpn
thanks for any tips.

Wifi access to internet via ISA firewall

I've just set up a small wireless network at home through which I intend to use several devices to connect to the internet through my LAN!
The LAN gateway is running ISA 2004 and my home computer is running the necessary Firewall client (a completely secure connection with username and password)!
Now everything's working fine... the pocket pc hooks up just right and i can browse the network and do what I could probably do using my own personal computer BUT the internet doesn't work!
It keeps asking me for a username and password (which like i usually provide in internet explorer on my personal computer) which i do supply... three times in a row after which it gives me an error saying that ISA cannot authenticate me!
The home computer doesn;t run the internet without the firewall client, and i'm supposing the pocket pc is facing the same dilemma! is there any way to circumvent this issue? perhaps a mobile version of the isa firewall client?
Please help. Thanks!
afaik there isn't a mobile version of the firewall client.
I set my ISA server to allow anonymous internet access ,and set all my machines up as secure nat clients (set isa servers ip as default gateway, I use a dhcp scope to do this). There is lots of info on this on microsofts ISA server website, I'd suggest a look there first, or try a google for secure nat.
Good luck, works well for me but ymmv.

LAN access USB

Hi.
I need to have lan access from my pocketpc 2003 (Qtek s110 / magician) using usb cable.
Activesync is version 4.0
When using internet explorer i am able to navigate using the usb cable, after specifying the proxy server, username and password(!!).
using the vxutil i see that the ppc IP is 192.168.55.101 (Serial on USB)
default gw is 192.168.55.100 (is the pocketpc, or the host conputer??)
My computer's IP addres is 10.0.100.108 (given by the enterprise DHCP)
on Vxutil, when i try to ping my computer (by the name) or any other computer on the nework the name is resolved(!) in it's IP address but ping times out everytime. Strange because DNS server is 127.0.0.1 (localkhost) and dont have any hosts file (at least that i know of).
Can it be a route missing on my local computer? but there is no network interface to the qtek when i do ipconfig on my pc!
please help!
thanks!

Pocket explorer problem over VPN (GPRS)

Hi all,..
Maybe someone of you can help me with the following problem concerning VPN over GPRS.
I'm using the WM5 build in VPN client often, and seems to be working fine for the terminal application (Remote desktop).
Now I want to access shares and folders on the VPN server with my WM5 client (same server as the remote desktop server). When I set up a VPN connection with my universal to the Windows 2003 server, I cannot access shares and folders. When I try to connect to the remote desktop it goes fine.
On my laptop I can access the shares, but only on my Universal I cannot.
I think it must be something with a default gateway. There is an option on my XP laptop, which say's "use default gateway on remote network". But this option is not avalable on my universal. Is this the problem? how come I can access the remote desktop and not any shares?
(PS: When I connect internal through WiFi It works fine, only over GPRS-VPN is doesn't work)
Best regards,..
Arjan
no one?
I have not been able to get VPN to work over GPRS. How do you configure connections?

Idea | Hamachi + Remote Desktop Mobile

*A Win 7 PC + WM 6.5 Phone
*Computer with nonstatic ip over net connected to net via an ADSL modem.
*Installed hamachi network both on PC and WM Phone.
*Remote Desktop Mobile installed on WM Phone.
????
Can anyone create a tutorial to make it possible controlling PC remotely over Hamachi?
*Domain= No domain [blank]
Why the hell do you need Hamachi for this?
You only need a DDNS service for this. The msot known is no-ip.com. It is completely free. You get a Domain-Name like xyz.no-ip.info and you will be redirected to the current IP of you Machine with a dynamic IP.
If you have a D-Link Router you can use dlinkddns.com for updating ur DNS with ur Router without PC.

this requires you to open your firewall for incoming traffic, which many don't want..
hamachi makes an outgoing connection, and you get a unique static IP.
once connected to your hamachi network, you should be able to open a remote desktop connection to your pc. Just use the specific hamachi IP 5.xxx.xxx.xxx
also make sure in Windows 7 your hamachi network is set to the correct type: if it is set as public, your Windows 7 firewall will block incoming remote desktop connection.
btw, I didn't test this setup lately myself
Hamachi way is easier and safer
Install cab to you WM and exe to your pc.
Create a network (VPN) from Hamachi menu (you can create from your mobile or your PC).
Connect to the network (both from mobile and pc) that you just create ("join to an existing network") via your internet connection (or your home network of course).
Now you can use remote desktop (or any other similar program) from your WM to access your pc from anywhere in the world.
Also you can map you mobile device (storage card) from "remote desktop" menu and transfer files from your PC to your mobile and vice verca.
ps: now i have to go to Thessaloniki center to kick the ass of Greek prime minister xaxaxaxaxa
