Known Issues and Frequently Asked Questions
Known Issues:
All known issues in PhilZ, TWRP and CWM on locked boot loaders apply, see their respective threads for more information.
Busybox updaters can kill XZDualRecovery, see the FAQ below for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How to set the correct time & date in PhilZ 6.59.0
Boot to PhilZ Touch;
Tap 'Recovery Settings';
Tap 'Gui Preferences';
Tap 'Time Settings';
Tap 'Change date and time';
Tic one of the last 3 options in this menu to try it;
Reboot to PhilZ Touch to see if it sticks, if not, try another and reboot to see if it helped, do this for all options to try them;
If one of them does help but does not stick at reboot, tic 'Try Force Persist on Reboot' once (it will un-tic itself after a reboot).
Done!
NOTE: if it's close to being correct (max 15h difference before or after your time) you need to correct the timezone.
About TWRP 2.6 and the use of INTERNAL STORAGE

A workaround for this issue is to use TWRP's advanced options, after creating a backup you wish to move to the PC:
go back to the main menu
go to advanced
go to filemanager
navigate to /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/*SERIAL*/*BACKUPNAME*
select one of the backup files
press chmod button (the one without 755)
type 0664 and press go
repeat 5->7 for each of the files in the backup, you can skip boot and the md5 files.
reboot to system and you should be able to copy the files without problems.
Alternatively you can install adbd Insecure by @Chainfire (non-free app from Play, or for free from it's XDA thread) and run ADBd itself as root, which elevates the rights and omits the issue all together.
I think it's a feature and not a bug (as it secures your backups), but I'll try to convince Team Win to make the setuid/setguid a choice rather then a default.
Installation of XZDualRecovery on UNROOTED devices
The 2.8.21 and older installer package uses Easy Root Tool for various Xperia phones, it is able to gain root on all of the currently supported devices, allowing to install XZDR.
Confirmed working:
Z - C6603
Z1 Compact - D5503 (doesn't seem to work on JellyBean), SO-01F (docomo)
Z1 - C6903,
Z Ultra - C6802, C6833
ZR, C5502
Z2 - D6503
Z2 Tablet - SGP511, SGP512
ZL2 - SOL25
If you want to help me perfect this list, use the tool done by @zxz0O0 in his topic and try to root your device. When testing also try older ROM versions, the latest FW versions may have been patched.
Thanks @zxz0O0 for the initial list.
The rootless installation has been made possible by:
@geohot: Root exploit
@MohammadAG: Disable RIC kernel module (Link)
@cubeundcube: Disable RIC on Z2 phone (findricaddr/writekmem)
@zxz0O0: for creating the initial tool where I have based this unrooted install option on.
Thanks for your hard work guys! :highfive:
The 2.8.22 and later installer package uses rootkitXperia for various Xperia phones, it is able to gain root on all of the currently supported devices -if they are running the correct Lollipop version- allowing to install XZDR.
Thanks go to @cubeundcube and @zxz0O0 respectively for developing and making some changes to allow me to utilize it for XZDualRecovery installation. Thanks guys!
XZDualRecovery's (2.8.21 and older) Busybox dependency and compatible Busybox updaters
Busybox Updater/Installer: If you have XZDualRecovery installed, un-install any Busybox updating app/tool as most if not all of them will install a version of busybox which does not support the lzma compression applets XZDualRecovery depends on. The version installed together with XZDualRecovery is very stable and I have yet to hear anyone complain about it's stability.
@vaisakh7 found a busybox updater which seems to be compatible with XZDualRecovery: Busybox On Rails, which installs a version of busybox created by stericson, which leads me to believe his Busybox installer should also install a version which works together with XZDualRecovery.
Either case, be careful with updating busybox as there still is a possibility it will break your ability to enter recovery or even break full root, which means you might not be able to recover from the broken situation. Your best bet is the installer version, using that to break the lock on the system partition and reinstall the correct busybox.
XZDualRecovery 2.8.22 and newer do not suffer from this dependency, you can use whatever busybox updater app you like when you have 2.8.22 or newer installed.
I installed XPOSED on Lollipop and now I am experiencing a boot loop!
@ondrejvaroscak found a workaround to fix your bootloop issues: [WORKAROUND] Bootloops with Xposed in Lollipop
While using the installer I get the message "This device is unauthorized" and I can't install XZDualRecovery!
Authorizations... The latest versions of adb and android need this, it's nothing XZDR related. If you have USB debugging turned on, and your mobile disconnected from your PC, just make sure you 'revoke all authorizations for USB debugging' in the developer options menu. Then reboot your phone and before doing anything else, make sure you're looking at the home screen on your device, then hook up your USB cable. Your mobile should then ask if the connected PC is authorized or not. Once answered you can start the installer.

Will this also work with unlocked bootloaders, or is there anything similar for unlocked bootloaders?
Apologies if this is a silly question but I'm new to XZ and I'm still trying to get my head around the weird recovery situation

Yes, it should work with unlocked bootloaders when you are still clinging on to the stock kernel. DooMLoRD's DooMKernel v6 has the same functionality built in, so when using his kernel this package will not be needed.

Yes, I think (Why don't you just try it?), but it would only make sense when you still run the stock Sony kernel.
I would however make a backup of /system/bin/chargemon (and .stock) and alike (charger) before installing. This package overwrites them, its best to have a copy handy for when it doesn't want to work anymore, your way out of trouble
just tested on pacman rom, works a charm :thumbup: thanks again!
Installation seems ok, but I'm not able to get into CWM, but able to go into the TWRP.
Previously had CWM - tried flashing using the CWM and then tried to install using the installer as well.
Any idea what's wrong?

Updated OP structure, it's now in line with all the other device Q&A threads.
Bumping up the topic ... It's in fact the only one which has never been used by users to ask questions yet
It either means all Z owners know where to find the DevDB thread or just don't have any questions... either way: BUMP :cyclops:
I'll ask a question.
If I already installed an incompatible busybox by other means (stericson's installer), will the recovery installer overwrite it with the included compatible busybox?
I don't feel like having to recover from possible problems (if any) arising from an incompatible busybox today, so just asking.

The installer/flashable package will overwrite any incompatible busybox anyway at install/update, but the current version also keeps a safety copy somewhere else and will copy that to /system/xbin as soon as it finds an incompatible version.

You need to unpack the installer and open up a terminal. Change to the directory and then do 'sudo ./install.sh' to install.
All i can say to you @[NUT] is your dual recovery is working perfectly fine on my device and don't have any issues

Use PhilZ Touch, disable MD5 checking and try again. It's a bug which has been fixed but it breaks backups made with older versions. This incompatibility will not be fixed.

Maybe you should then insert the memory card in a pc, copy the contents and reformat it to then copy the contents back.
Sounds to me you might just have a faulty sdcard.
XZDR is designed to also use the cache partition if an sdcard is not found though, so it should be able to boot to recovery either way. You can try to insert the sdcard while in recovery to see if you can use it then.

[4.4] How to Speed-up Tablet Z SGP321

Hi, if someone want to speedup LTE Tablet here you go (my TabZ run so smoothly and without LAGs, also with TabZ2 live wallpaper^^).
Requirements:
1. TabZ LTE DEODEXED!
How to deodex 4.4
2. You can flash it on Odexed Rom, but it is strongly recommended to use a deodexed ROM if you want to use Dalvik patch.
How to:
1. Download Qualcomm-optimized Dalvik & Bionic libraries:
Orginal Nexus Thread
Xperia Z Thread about this Fix
2. Clean Dalvik in Recovery
3. Flash and reboot.
4. Download newest Seeder2.0.apk

5. Enable Seeder lag reduction, set root privileges and turn on "Suspend RNG service", "Start automaticly on boot" and RNG Service: Moderate.
6. Download form Play Store "No-Frills CPU Control":
Google Play
7. Set: min/max 384/1512, interactive CPU Control with CFQ, Start automaticly on boot, save everything.
thats all, just reboot your Device

i think so, but deodex is only for sgp321
Dalvik versions inside your zip are the same that are in KitKat ROM (.230). Bionic versions are different, but there are thoughts that ROM actually contains newer versions.
So flashing this will actually do practically nothing considering performance, benchmarks.
Well, I would recommend you to try CM11 if you really want a great performance enhancement...
Even better if you enable ART...

I tested pretty much any available 4.4 ROM out there and just recently installed the sony 4.4.
I don't see any difference in performance besides laggy settings wich seems to be a bug in the sony ROM.
I have tested ART and used it allways with custom ROMs but to be honest: I never felt even the slightest difference between ART and Dalvik.
CM11 didn't perform any better then the official firmware either in my opinion. I never did any benchmarksa though.
Well, what can I say?
I didnt run any benchs either but as far as feelings go I feel CM11 faster and smoother than any sony iteration I have tested, granted that I didnt test KK.
I guess it is a matter of preference indeed, I got a new tablet when changed to CM11 but I wouldnt change my Z1 rom as I dont think there is any advantage to it.
Nonetheless, if anyone care to try CM11 or AOKP I urge them to do so!

Error reporting:
Please, when reporting errors or problems:
Put up a notice in this thread providing the package name you used to install or update;
Include ROM name and/or FW version numbers;
Include what SU apk you are using (SuperUser or SuperSU)
Send me the contents of all the log files from right after a failed boot attempt or a link to an archive containing these logs by PM (that's including the .old rotation logs!). If you have no website or online location to store the logs, PM me for an email address to send them to.
Logs can be found inside:
/cache/recovery
/tmp/XZDualRecovery
/storage/sdcard1/XZDualRecovery
/cache/XZDualRecovery (if the previous exists, this one will not!)
NOTE: I need them ALL!
I really need them to troubleshoot what failed and what worked OK. Thank you!

There seems to be a problem with the dualrecovery2.7.129-BETA for the Z2 tablet on locked bootloader. I was on the 2.7.125-BETA when I updated to 2.7.129. Philz recovery is not coming up and just the Sony logo was showing (the TWRP however was working). I had to hard shutdown the device and downgrade to 2.7.128 and it worked perfectly. I tried both the flashable and the installer. Just wanted to let you know.
Keep up the good work. Thank you!

It's possible but I'm really stretched for time as it is already.
If anyone else wants a crack at it:
[DIY GUIDE] Create a personalized ROM yourself!
It's really easy, just replace the recovery files in the base packages with the one's for the Tab Z2 and give it a spin.
You have my blessing to release it publicly of course :good:
Anyone have luck to mount external sd card with TWRP? I seem to not find any solution with any of version of XZDualRecovery to mount external sd. I´m on SGP511 402, stock kernel, rooted, SuperSu Pro 2.00. Thank you NUT for you work.

What filesystem is there on the sdcard?
Only ext2/3/4, exfat and fat32 are supported... But it could also be because of a strange way it got formatted from the factory.

Some manufacturers format the entire module instead of creating a partition. This is a common mistake among manufacturers ... You can try to copy all of the data off the sdcard and reformat it with exfat in windows, that should fix any weirdness on the sdcard.

I'll have a long hard look at why, it's working fine for me... With exfat and on the z2, but it's basically the same hardware...

Thanks for nothing...
Logs, screenies, anything about WHAT you did to install!? How am I supposed to fix anything if I have no clue what's broken?
I can't reboot in recovery mode (neither TWRP nor PT).
When i switch on my XZ2T if vibrates, then green light goes on, I repeatedly push vol up (or down) but then it goes on the blue wave animation...
any clue?

Yes, remove the XZDR.prop file and reboot. I think the paths to the input nodes got fubarred somehow.
Where do I find this file?

It's either on your SDcard (the 'external' one) or in /cache inside a folder called 'XZDualRecovery'

Xposed and framework for lollipop 5.1.1

So, I had several modules working with previous version of KK, all of them properly working (one for all: AMPLIFY).
These modules helped a lot in order to extend battery life.
Now the question: is there anyone who has been able to install Xposed and Framework on our M7 with latest firmware B324 (LP 5.1.1). If so, please, advice:
- procedure to follow
- files to be used
I'm on Mt-L09 rooted and bootloader unlocked.
As far as I know Xposed is only in beta version for Nexus and just a couple of others, not M7.
For moderators: I haven' t fount any other thread in which this discussion has been already faced.
If I'm wrong, please link it with the others, or just delete this thread. Thank you.
No working xposed for now. I try flash v75 and I lost my touch button and status bar to.

I'm sorry tuddu, I also tried... No framework... it kills system UI (navigation and status bar)... That's why I rolled back to CM11... I wait/hope (if Huawei releases a suitable 5.x kernel) for CM12... I'm really done with EMUI !
Same problem here, tried to flash all latest versions of xposed and only one that flashed properly was v75 , which makes notification bar and control buttons dissapear
Had to flash uninstall zip file in order to recover notification bar and controls.
Hope xposed will be compactible with m7 soon

Yes, already tried and already faced the same problems.
For me Xposed is quite important since allow me activate apps like AMPLIFY which helped a lot in battery drain reduction.
Let' s keep this thread alive, I think soon some news will be added...
I think you should post in Xposed thread with some logs to help development.
I'll have a Mate 7 in a few daysand will try it again
Is there any news from other users who already tried installing Xposed on LP 5.1.1.?
Same installed latest xposed but failed....
+1, subscribed. I've gone through the same process, same results. EMUI is a rather heavily modified skin, so here's hoping the xposed team find a way...
