Remix OS for Nexus 7 2013? - Remix Ultratablet General

I was thinking about buying a remix ultra tablet, but before I buy, I wonder if I could flash remix OS on my nexus 7 2013 so that I would know what I'm getting into before spending $300 on a device built specifically for it? Has anyone tried doing this successfully? If so, how?

Sorry, I think this is the wrong forum, I don't know how to erase post though

Tablet?
If you have a look on their website, they have mostly used remix OS on computers. I wouldn't think there's much point to getting it on a tablet, you are better off getting a normal android tablet with marshmallow:laugh:!

Nexus 7 2013 has Marshmellow and works fine with it. Only thing you are getting is the RemixOS and a downgrade atm. I;d wait until they are further along with the development before even considering experimenting.

i have PhoenixOS with Google apps working on my nexus 7 2013 and i can say that now it's very very productive with PhoenixOS...
Try to believe..
It's no good that RemixOS don't release anything for a 7" inches tablet as Nexus 7..
I hope that soon they can release a build for nexus 7 2012 and 2013 (as phoenixOS)

Indeed. Honestly, I love PheonixOS on my Nexus 7, with my Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse it's great, would love RemixOS.

Can you explain how you got google apps working? I keep getting stuck at finishing boot whenever I flash opengapps of any size

Re: Ubuntu phone os on nexus 7
There is a thread on Ubuntu for the N7 in the Original Development sub-forum.
Also general questions belong in the Q&A sub-forum.

Ubuntu for the Nexus 7 (which is available and has been for some time) != Ubuntu's phone OS (which is not available yet but will be in testing form on the 21st of February and which might be portable to the Nexus 7, hopefully)
They are two completely different products/OSes - but it seems like most everyone gets that mixed up anyway. The OP was asking about Ubuntu's phone OS which will be released in a few days, ARM-based, and totally different from Ubuntu for the Nexus 7 which is the actual desktop version of Ubuntu compiled for ARM-based devices.
I love the Ubuntu phone OS interface, it's beautiful and functional and it has those nifty swipe actions from all 4 sides of the screen so, yeah, it would be cool to see that OS running on a Nexus 7. The Ubuntu for Nexus 7 desktop OS compile is crap so far, very slow, laggy, and yes I realize it's in testing obviously but, if it becomes possible to get that phone OS version ported over to a Nexus 7 (minus the phone code, of course) I'd be more than willing to give it some testing time, certainly.
I wouldn't mind this and would love to help only problem is my computer is to slow to compile it
I'll bet that as soon as that source code becomes available on the 21st there's gonna be at least a few people working towards moving that phone OS to other devices, and I'm sure hoping at least one of those people will do it for the Nexus 7. I've watched the Ubuntu phone OS intro video on YouTube (the one with Mark Shuttleworth showing it off for the first time) and I remember when I first watched it as soon as it was posted and thinking "That's brilliant... how come nobody else has ever realized there's 4 sides to a screen and there can be swipe gestures from all 4?"
Brilliant stuff, really... and it just looks great. I'm not dissing Android because I do love Android overall but, it can't hurt to see ideas from others, and Ubuntu's phone OS is certainly something I'm interested in right now. That Firefox OS has some concepts I find appealing as well.
Maybe someone will just take the best parts of all these mobile device OSes and create one truly killer operating system that just blows everything else away.

Nexus 7 flo vs. Nexus 7 grouper

Hello all, my first post here.
Recently jumped into the Nexus 7 game with both feet and bought first a 2012 Nexus 7 then almost immediately a 2013 Nexus 7. After playing with both a bit I opted to buy yet another Nexus 7 but my purchase of choice the 3rd time around was another 2012 Nexus 7.
While on paper the specs for the 2013 Nexus 7 are sweet and it is no doubt a fantastic tablet my needs seem to be more suited to the 2012 based on the following conditions, (which I'm aware could change with hacks and kernel updates).
First of all I have USBROM installed on both my 2012 Nexus 7's. It allows me to connect a DAC to my Nexus and also an OTG Y cable which I can simultaneously charge. I have found with the latest CyanogenMod 10.2 nightlies for the 2013 Nexus 7 I can also connect a DAC but I cannot charge at the same time.
I use Logitech Media Server to stream music to my Nexus 7 and having a wonderful touch screen that won't go off during use is fantastic. It replaced a Raspberry Pi running Squeezeplug. More user friendly for the family but of course more expensive.
Another reason I'm a fan of the 2012 is because I can connect a USB 3G dongle to it using PPPWidget. I have an unlocked Huawei E303 and travel extensively. Being able to hook a dongle up to my Nexus will be invaluable when I'm working on some foreign runway with no wifi and not data roaming on my cell phone.
Nexus 7 flo seems to have kernel module loading disabled.
Anyway in my opinion the newer Nexus 7 is somewhat crippled compared to its older brother. That being said I use my 2013 Nexus 7 religiously and constantly as the others seem to have taken up duties as stereo sources at work and at home. However when I travel I leave the new Nexus 7 at home.
Anyway, just an observation and an introduction. As I said I'm aware one good kernel makes the older Nexus 7 almost obsolete but I'm living in the here and now.

There are custom kernels that have module loading enabled on the 2013 nexus.

Could you point me to one please. I have searched and been unable to find. I have tried ElementalX, franco, Bulletproof, among others.
Thanks,

Try CM Mod
wait why u bought 3 nexus 7 tablets?

Should I still buy a Nexus7

I'm wondering if the nexus 7 is still the best 7" device for the price. (250€)
Maybe a rooted Kindle Fire HDX + ROM is the way to go?

At this point, i'd recommend spending the extra cash on the newer version of the Nexus 7; it has a better display, back camera (missing from the first gen version), twice the RAM, and a different (better?) processor. It's also slightly thinner (in all dimensions i believe) and lighter.
Kindle Fire will be locked into Amazon services and their custom OS/skin unless modified, which is not nearly as easy or with many options available as a Nexus device. Though they are decent hardware for the price. Only benefit to the Kindle/Fire OS is if you are a prime member and plan to stream video/TV from their prime video service, i believe this is integrated in the Kindles.
Also, this should probably have been posted in General instead of this section.
afaik is there no new version of the nexus7. and the nexus9 is to large for my taste.

There are 2 versions of the Nexus 7, 1st gen and 2nd gen. Go for the second gen version, it will be worth the extra price.

Sailfish os on nexus 6p with multirom

Hi guys, in future it will be possible install sailfish on nexus 6p? There is a porting for my device?
Efforts to port to this device are in progress but there are some issues that still need to be solved.
I've been a fan of the Jolla Sailfish project for a long time; I think it's a great alternative to Google's bastardisation of what was once a free and open Android.
Any plans for porting to the Nexus 5X (bullhead)? As great as the 6P is, not everyone can afford it

I know someone (@ghosalmartin) who's working on it but there are some problems regarding the 64-bit architecture of the chip on this device.
I would love to have a Sailfish OS port for my Nexus 6P. I very much enjoyed using it on my ol' Nexus 5, it was very fluid and the gesture navigation was genius!
Hi, is it news on sailfish os to nexus 2015?
Anything new on this port to the Nexus 6p ? Im about done with google

same here. I've been searching but it's an unhappy coincidence that the Nexus 6 is codename sailfish, so most search results are red herrings

Can I Install Android Go Edition on My 1st Gen Nexus 7?

I've never done anything like this before, & am a total newb when it comes to this kind of thing, so please bear with me.
I have an old 1st Gen Nexus 7 but stopped using it when the OS update slowed it down. Since getting a Nokia 1 Plus & seeing how relatively great that runs on Android Go Edition/Andriod 10, I thought it would be a good idea to break out the old Nexy & see if I could get her running on this as it's designed for devices with 2GB or less (the Nexus 7 has 1GB I think).
I have two primary concerns; firstly, I don't want to download malware onto my computer or pad, & secondly, some of the guides I've seen are way over my head when it comes to the tech side of it...
Any help would be very much appreciated.
EDIT: by the way, I'm on a Win 10 PC.
Sadly it does require a degree of technical knowledge to be able to do anything
However if you want a good ROM just use Unlegacy Android, it runs lightly enough for this tablet and is what I like to use personally
You probably could build it in theory, but it may not install, considering the small system partition the Nexus 7 has and how I can find absolutely no tutorials online on how to resize it (all the tutorials are for the 2013 model and don't work on the 2012 one). Any ROM past 7.1.2 can't use gapps at all, and any ROM past 6.0 can only use pico gapps (absolute minimum functionality).
