Internal SD not being recognized by mediaserver - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, some system (or user apps) like mediaserver cannot read internal storage. It was noticeable to me, when I've installed Xposed Media Scanner. It always shows up no scan for internal storage ("internal sd") on boot. It does not matter if I place a music/picture file on it. Even most music players cannot find anything on internal storage. I always have to choose through file explorer which music file should be played in this case. Btw, there is no ".nomedia" file placed or something. I hope everyone got the point. Can anyone help?

Force Windows Media Library to start at Storage Card?

I've got a 1 GB miniSD in my new 8125. Whenever I open Windows Media it defaults to "My Documents" instead of the storage card. All my music files are on the storage card.
I can't see anywhere to change this behavior so it defaults to the storage card instead. Does anyone have any insight into this?
after some time, windows media player seems to remember your last choice...although not always, I don't know on what it depends to remember the last used storage place....Probably you will be able to find some registry key which keeps the last used path...

You should have a file called wmpinfo.xml on your storage card and also in device memory. If you delete the one in device memory then only the storage card will appear as an option in the media library.
I just fired up Total Commander and did a search for all files starting w/ wmp and then for all .xml files, didn't find a single instance of the files with either search. Any ideas?
It'll return everytime you update library unless you remove all audio and video files from the device memory. Mine had 3 sample sounds and a video file on it so deleted them so they wouldnt activate the other library on update.
Okay, just found the file. On the Cingular 8125 the file you want to get rid of is called XMEMediaLibrary.mlb
It's located in \Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
Delete all the sound and video files in device memory, rename or delete the XMEMediaLibrary file and you're good to go.
Thanks for the pointers on this guys.

[SOLVED] External SD card issues

Hello, I have searched around for solutions for this problem but can't find anything that helps me; I have an 8gb external sd card with some music, files, etc. stored on it. There are three problems I have noticed so far with this:
The music files are not found by the stock music player or any others except Tinyplayer
Pictures stored on the external SD card only show up in the gallery until the media scan runs and then they dissapear, but are still accessible through Astro.
And I am unable to transfer files from the external sd to the internal sd
As mentioned above I can still play music files with tinyplayer and access photos using Astro but this is a very annoying problem! I have also tried formatting the card (FAT32) but this has not fixed the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Deleting this file solved my problem!
using astro you can copy and paste file from external to internal, but why do you want to do that?
after the media scan runs, the thumbnails will remain until you eject the external card again
using gallery picture viewer you can see external sd pictures
it use a music player called "player" way better than the stock player, and you can have the pictures anywhere and it will pick it up
The thing is I can't though, if I try to move a file from external to internal Astro brings up an error that says "Move Error - Move Failed".
When taking photos and videos I have set it to store them in the external card but after they have been taken they only appear in the gallery momentarily and then will dissapear even though the card is still in the device.
Save your files on computer and format sd from phone
Sorry I've tried formatting and the same thing happens annoyingly!

Find someone with a card and try with his. Yours might not be good
it sounds like the Internal SD card is the problem here, not the External
are you able to create any file or save anything into the Internal SD?

Same here with Astro.. If I try to copy with My Files works ok.
Media is OK (in Music app, Gallery, etc)
what ROM are you 2 running?
that doesn't sounds right to me at all
I copy and paste files often between external to internal SD card and viceversa using Astro File, and it works without the error message you guys have reported.
try upgrading to a newer version of Astro File
if "my files" app is working then it must be either a bug in Astro version you guys are running or a bug in the ROM
i'm on Astro 2.5.2
Saving files to the internal sd seems fine and I am using the stock ROM, not rooted or anything special!
I have found out I can move files from external - internal and viceversa using the My Files App! So that particular problem must be something to do with Astro, which is strange because I am also running version 2.5.2!
I still have the problem of not being able to see media stored on the external card through most apps though, so I will try @exadeci's tip tomorrow and put some songs and pictures on an alternative card and let you all know how it goes!
Thanks for the help so far though guys

YES! It's fixed, I created a .nomedia file on the root of the external sd when I first got the phone and forgot about it, just deleted it and everything is now fine! Thank you very much!

[Q] Recover deleted file S5 internal storage (map to drive )

Hi,
I had 1 GB worth of .wav files saved on my internal storage via the Easy Voice Recorder app. I kept getting storage space notifications and the Galaxy gives you the option to view files by type. Under Miscellanious, there was a file called EasyVoiceRecorder - I though it was a temp file of sorts so I deleted it (like a total idiot). Turns out, it wasn't a temp file but a folder containing all my .wav files.
I've since rooted the phone, bought Disk Digger and ran a scan. It only returned a hand full of small .wav files but not the ones I deleted.
I've been told Recuva might help but that works via PC and will require my internal storage to be mapped as a drive. I can't find a way to do this.
Any ideas?
I've had about the same problem, but then with pictures I've accidentally deleted.
I've used Easy Recovery Pro and scanned my complete internal memory (agressive scan).
Took a while, but I was able to recover all pictures I deleted.
Solid state storage cannot be recovered once items are deleted. The only way would be if it somehow had something like a "recycle bin" like windows does. I wouldn't know for sure if that exists.

Won't stop scanning media files

There's nothing wrong with the SD card I'm using. It works fine on my computer and on my v10. But for some reason on my v20 it is constantly scanning the sd card. Media files still show up but I cannot open them until the never ending scan ends. Also the music player also does not read the music on the card. I know this use to be an issue with older Android phones but I didn't expect my v20 to have this issue.
It says:
"Scanning media files... try again after scan is complete"
More details? App? Brand of sd card? Type of files? How do you have them organized? Do you have a .nomedia file where it shouldn't be? Etc.?

200gb Lg Brand Micro SD. Using the stock file app . The pop up comes up on all types of media files.
I can still play files on es file explorer however apps such as black player and the stock music app do not recognize any media on the sd card unless I transfer it into the internal storage. I removed all .nomedia files from the card and the card works perfectly fine when plugged in to any other device.

Depending on how much media you have (hopefully less than available internal space) transfer everything to internal memory using es file explorer (or Root explorer - my preference) (avoid the Android folder - but backup any app data you have cause if any apps save their data to the sd card, it will be lost in this method along with any apps you installed to the sd card *just redownload them from play store*).
Then format SD card using phone.
Then transfer everything back to the SD card
FYI doing this changes the modified date of any photos/videos so the phone will think they're new. Only drawback of doing this. I had an issue with my Samsung 256gb card and that was the only way I could get it to fix.
I had to backup my files with my 200GB Sandisk to my laptop, format card for hahas, then retransfer back manually. Did my 90+GB of flacs while watching a movie and the other 40+GB overnight while sleeping.
I transferred stuff onto my 200gb SanDisk card that I had been using in my tablet. The files all showed in file Explorer but wouldn't show in gallery or music players.
There was a lost.dir folder on the SD card (along with others from the tablet) the folder seemed empty (didn't check for hidden files) I deleted the lost.dir folder and the phone can now see everything. (pictures all in gallery now as well as mp3s showing in music players)
Worked for me... Not sure if it will apply to your situation but I figured I'd share...
Same issue but different scenario
Hi All,
I am experiencing a similar issue with a specific app (only so far) - 9gag.
Whenever I download an image from their feed with the dedicated 'save' button, it will save it onto my internal storage (can't change the location of that via app), but it won't show in my gallery.
When I try to open the imaeg in the file explorer it says 'scanning media files... try again after scan is completed' - however, no matter how long I wait, I can't open it and it never becomes visible in the gallery.
I tried following things so far:
- reboot: it works, every time I reboot, all files are scanned and in the gallery, however, if I save further images, the new ones won't show up until I reboot again
- stop media scanning service and clear data: no effect
- rename folder: no effect
- rename file: this works, it shows up in gallery
- copy/move onto sd card: this works too, it shows up in gallery
As you can see, there ARE ways I can make the pics visible, but none of them is a sustainable way. I can't reboot or rename after each image I save, that's pure madness.
Any ideas what else I can try?
Oh and btw, all other apps do work, for example if I save files from screenshots, downloads, Line or WeChat, the phone does create a folder in the same way it does for 9gag and it is visible in the gallery with no problems, so it might be app specific? I also reached out to 9gag already but i don't think they will reply...

Cannot Manually Add files to internal Storage SD Card, but Apps can be transfered

I'm having a rather unique problem with my the Micro SD card I installed.
I can format it as internal storage and it won't pop up for file managers or my computer.
This means I can't manually move files to it all.
Despite that when it's internal storage I can move apps to it and it adds new apps to it by default.
I could go to move all and move everything it can on, but it's a fairly slow SD card so I'm hoping to mainly put music, videos and any pictures on there.
I worry about it moving the apps that I want to keep in internal storage for speed over.
Does anyone know how I could fix this?
EDIT:
I didn't manage to figure out how to add files manually while it was internal storage through either internal file managers or through the computer.
But I did manage to find the SD card while it was portable.
The trick is to use the built in file explorer on the phone and copy a small file onto the SD card.
With there being something other than just Android files on the SD card it can then be discovered by the computer.
This mainly solves my problem as I plan to use it primarily for storage of music and game files, with the emulators being on the phone itself.
I had this issue a few days ago. You have 2 options to format, (1) as a internal storage and only your phone can read this and other option (2)to use on others devices. Using the second option I managed to transfer files to my microSD like it used to be.
While using the first option I was able only to transfer apps to it through the system.
I hope it helps
I'm using one, but I'm not even able to find it with File Manager?
Is that normal for Internal Storage?
I expected there to at least be a folder in the normal phone space called SD card or something?
Is there no way to manually move music there when it's internal storage?
Also I tried changing it to be portable but my computer still couldn't see it.
File manager could actually see it and open it but I couldn't copy paste anything to it.
So I turned it back to internal as I can at least move apps to it successfully at the moment.

When I tried as Internal Storage any File Manager found my SDcard too... Thats why I'm using as portable.
After that, i could see this.
Maybe you're missing something like changing the USB connection from Charging to File transfering.
Did you checked this?
Yes it can see the rest of my phone and move files, so I've made sure to change it to file transferring.
When you used internal storage file managers failed to find your SD card as well?

Here your saying that you could find it and that's why you swapped over?
I assume you forgot to say it failed to show up separately and that's why you changed to portable.

Sorry! Yes, I failed to find my SD card too, thats why i changed to portable.
Im assuming this is a normal behavior, my last Android phone was a Galaxy S2 and I stopped following Android changes for the lasts 4/5 years. But idk why you can't see it even in portable mode... That should work as worked for me.
Hope someone help you more than I did!

Thank you for trying to help.
I think I might have figured out part of the problem, the file explorer I normally use doesn't have permission to add anything to the SD card. I'm not sure how I would go about giving it permission though.
But when I use the system built in I was able to copy paste some music onto it.
With a file on the SD Card my computer was able to locate it as well, and I can now copy and paste to the SD card using my computer.
So with your help I was able to figure out how to get portable working.
It is a bit disappointing that there isn't a way to manually add files while it is an internal storage though.
So again while your solution didn't directly work, it made me think and find a solution to my problem even if it's not the one I wanted.
