Force Windows Media Library to start at Storage Card? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I've got a 1 GB miniSD in my new 8125. Whenever I open Windows Media it defaults to "My Documents" instead of the storage card. All my music files are on the storage card.
I can't see anywhere to change this behavior so it defaults to the storage card instead. Does anyone have any insight into this?

after some time, windows media player seems to remember your last choice...although not always, I don't know on what it depends to remember the last used storage place....Probably you will be able to find some registry key which keeps the last used path...

You should have a file called wmpinfo.xml on your storage card and also in device memory. If you delete the one in device memory then only the storage card will appear as an option in the media library.

I just fired up Total Commander and did a search for all files starting w/ wmp and then for all .xml files, didn't find a single instance of the files with either search. Any ideas?

It'll return everytime you update library unless you remove all audio and video files from the device memory. Mine had 3 sample sounds and a video file on it so deleted them so they wouldnt activate the other library on update.

Okay, just found the file. On the Cingular 8125 the file you want to get rid of is called XMEMediaLibrary.mlb
It's located in \Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
Delete all the sound and video files in device memory, rename or delete the XMEMediaLibrary file and you're good to go.
Thanks for the pointers on this guys.

SD Card "Recycled" folder?

hi,
i use a 512 mb SANDISK card for my mp3z. a while back i used file explorer to access the card and thus deleted around 4 tunez i got tired off listening to. i then resumed using my media player and while listening i was rather surprised that the file i deleted was still there. i further discovered that all the 4 song files were still present. so i used file explorer again..etc. the thing is; when you use file explorer either through the unit or through the laptop (using activesync) the 4 files were not present. but when i use media player the 4 songs would still appear. i clicked on "properties" for the song and it said that the location of the file was \storage card\recylced. so the question here is; how do i access this folder to completely delete the contents? or does this mean i have to reformat the card?
cheers

memory card not recognized by WMPlayer

the other day i added about 30 songs to my memory card in mp3 format and now all of the sudden, my windows media player wont lrecogize the card to add the songs to the library... ive tried restarting, soft resetting, putting it in and taking it out. nothing is working. any help?
I have the same issue on my TyTN...
really frustrating but I found a workaround: browse the storage and delete the hidden folder MSMETADATA, then try to update media player library.
You won't find such folder using the file explorer provided with WM5: you must use an enhanced file explorer such as Resco one in order to view hidden and system files.
This was a fixed inanother subject and it worked for me, as I had the same problem as you.[/quote]
I just came across the same tip but you can use the built-in file explorer - just set it to show all files and the folder will appear.
Cool, works for me, but what is at fault here? Before I learned of this trick, when i went to update library without deleting this folder it took the tytn an age to add files, in the meantime all free memory on my microsd was filled. The only way to reclaim this space was to back up everything i wanted to keep, format the card then copy everything back on.??
Workaround
I have been looking into this for about 3 weeks and I am now 95% sure it is because the storage card is full when WMPlayer tries to write its DRM / Metadata to the card. Deleting the MSMETADATA folder is only part of the fix because it frees up space but it will continue to fail. It is still a bug and HTC should fix it up but the workaround it is to leave some space on the card, i.e. don't fill it full of music. I am trialling WMplayer 11 Beta on the PC and it has an option to leave some space free when syncing. Seems to be working fine. For me, this 'feature' is one of the most frustrating things about the device so if you are suffering too then I hope this helps
i dont think it is a strorage issue because it happend to me i have a 1gb micrisd card i used up about 300 to 400mb and it did the same to me when i went to add the files to the lib it found the songs but wouldnt add them it only added the ones from the internal hdd i deled every thing off the card and put it back on i havent had a prob with is since but glad to know if it does happen againg i can just del that folder
this might even happen your card has some error.
it happened to me last time, when i bought first my hermes and tried to install the WM5Storage. Theres a huge incompatibility and my microSD developed some FAT errors causing read/write issues. Once i removed WM5Storage and freshly formatted (make sure you backup) the microSD, thinks ran smoothly.
just a bit of info for you dont know if its just mine but when i had that problem and i tryed adding files to the lib it took ages so i removed the sd card and put it back it and i got a this card is write protected message
so maybe the prob could be caused by removing the card while the phone it trying to accsess it
yer its just happened to my tytn again am going to take a more detailed look at the folder as deleting it does seem to work there must be away create a fix ill let you all know if i find any thing

Windows Media Player and Storage Carge Problem??

Can anyone out there help please.
I have been happily using a 4gb card in my Trinity for the last month, storing most of my program files and all my music on the card.
I just had to resetup my Trinity. I deleted all the program files but left the music on the card alone.
Windows Media Plaey now no longer sees the card and wont update the library from it. it seems to count the music files when searching, just doesnt add them.
There are no software conflicts, i am using the same software as before this fault happened, you can still play individual media files from the card by opening the file from file explorer or media player.
Anyone any ideas please??
Delete the MSMETADATA and WMDRM folders and update the library.
I'm afraid thats not the answer, there's no file there to delete. I've used that one in the past for other probs on other devices.
Media player just doesnt see the storage card anymore, even though it did in the past.
Thanks anyway.
Problem sorted!!
1) Put card in reader in PC to delete the msme file
2)backed up all info on card to pc
3)reformetted card in PDA using poccket mechanic
4)reinserted card into pc and copied all files over again
5)soft reset PDA
Well you could have deleted the directories from Trinity as well, just check Show all Files (those directories are hidden) and then delete them.
Well I'm having the same problem. It CAN read files from the storage card. If there are nog WMDRM & MSMETADATA folders it CAN update the library. But if I listen for a few hours, put off the phone and put it back on it will not read the 'Storage Card' library.. If I select update library it just stops responding..
The only thing I can do is Soft reset, it will recognize the library again.. But I don't like having to soft reset :S
Quick reply to darkilici -
I had tried that one as well. The problem lay on the card.
Since my fix - I've had no probs so far.
Seems to be a lot of people having weird roubles with 4bg cards out there.
Dave,
this is not just limited to 4gb cards.
I have a 2gb installed with same issues described above.
Resolved (as Apoc described) by deleting the MSMETADATA and WMDRM folders.

I think I have the solution...Win Media Player sucks, use Mortplayer and TCPMP player then forget all the missing file problems.

Won't stop scanning media files

There's nothing wrong with the SD card I'm using. It works fine on my computer and on my v10. But for some reason on my v20 it is constantly scanning the sd card. Media files still show up but I cannot open them until the never ending scan ends. Also the music player also does not read the music on the card. I know this use to be an issue with older Android phones but I didn't expect my v20 to have this issue.
It says:
"Scanning media files... try again after scan is complete"
More details? App? Brand of sd card? Type of files? How do you have them organized? Do you have a .nomedia file where it shouldn't be? Etc.?

200gb Lg Brand Micro SD. Using the stock file app . The pop up comes up on all types of media files.
I can still play files on es file explorer however apps such as black player and the stock music app do not recognize any media on the sd card unless I transfer it into the internal storage. I removed all .nomedia files from the card and the card works perfectly fine when plugged in to any other device.

Depending on how much media you have (hopefully less than available internal space) transfer everything to internal memory using es file explorer (or Root explorer - my preference) (avoid the Android folder - but backup any app data you have cause if any apps save their data to the sd card, it will be lost in this method along with any apps you installed to the sd card *just redownload them from play store*).
Then format SD card using phone.
Then transfer everything back to the SD card
FYI doing this changes the modified date of any photos/videos so the phone will think they're new. Only drawback of doing this. I had an issue with my Samsung 256gb card and that was the only way I could get it to fix.
I had to backup my files with my 200GB Sandisk to my laptop, format card for hahas, then retransfer back manually. Did my 90+GB of flacs while watching a movie and the other 40+GB overnight while sleeping.
I transferred stuff onto my 200gb SanDisk card that I had been using in my tablet. The files all showed in file Explorer but wouldn't show in gallery or music players.
There was a lost.dir folder on the SD card (along with others from the tablet) the folder seemed empty (didn't check for hidden files) I deleted the lost.dir folder and the phone can now see everything. (pictures all in gallery now as well as mp3s showing in music players)
Worked for me... Not sure if it will apply to your situation but I figured I'd share...
Same issue but different scenario
Hi All,
I am experiencing a similar issue with a specific app (only so far) - 9gag.
Whenever I download an image from their feed with the dedicated 'save' button, it will save it onto my internal storage (can't change the location of that via app), but it won't show in my gallery.
When I try to open the imaeg in the file explorer it says 'scanning media files... try again after scan is completed' - however, no matter how long I wait, I can't open it and it never becomes visible in the gallery.
I tried following things so far:
- reboot: it works, every time I reboot, all files are scanned and in the gallery, however, if I save further images, the new ones won't show up until I reboot again
- stop media scanning service and clear data: no effect
- rename folder: no effect
- rename file: this works, it shows up in gallery
- copy/move onto sd card: this works too, it shows up in gallery
As you can see, there ARE ways I can make the pics visible, but none of them is a sustainable way. I can't reboot or rename after each image I save, that's pure madness.
Any ideas what else I can try?
Oh and btw, all other apps do work, for example if I save files from screenshots, downloads, Line or WeChat, the phone does create a folder in the same way it does for 9gag and it is visible in the gallery with no problems, so it might be app specific? I also reached out to 9gag already but i don't think they will reply...

Songs and Videos saved in MicroSd Card disappear

I save Songs and Videos in Songs Folder and Videos Folder created in MicroSd Card inserted in my Samsung M30s.But they disappear after some time. How to keep them secure in these folders?
Maybe you have some service enabled on your phone that wipes memory from files not used for a certain period of time, or moves them to the cloud. You know your phone best yourself. Did you connect the microSD as external memory or internally?
Which might be that services? Can you name some for an example?I connected the MicroSd as External Memory.
Look first in this application, where you have selected a directory in the external memory.
You can also move files to another location on the microSD yourself before they disappear in the location where they disappear.

Thank you ze7zez.First I shall try moving these files to already existing folders in the Sdcard watch whether they are disappearing.Afterwards I shall report the result here.
Do not use directories that the system or applications have posed.
Create a DATA directory yourself and move files to it.
Thank you ze7zez,
As you advised,I moved the Video files to the Movies folder and the Audio files to the Music folders. You know these folders are designated by the Phone itself whien I inserted the MicroSd Card for the first time. Then I watched for a day to see whether the files are disappeared from these folders.I found that those files are there still in these folders. Now I want to know why these files vanish from the folders created by me?
Describe /the actions you perform/name the applications you use/ that place files in directories where they later disappear.
I used File Manager Plus Application to move video files to Videos Folder and Audio files to Songs Folder. These Videos and Songs Folders were created by myself in the Sdcard. And these files were moved from the Send Anywhere Folder in the Sdcard itself. And to my dismay this Send Anywhere Folder itself was also created by myself in the Sdcard. Also the files in this folder remain in tact. They won't disappear.
So did the files disappear from the "Send Anywhere" directory?
What application placed the files in "Send Anywhere"?
The files did not disappear from the Send Anywhere Folder. They are still there since 3 days. This SendAnywhere directory got these files by transferring from another phone using Send Anywhere App.
