My 6P won't connect to my school wifi network using dhcp. I can connect fine to my home network, but the phone gets suck on obtaining ip address for school.
If I manually assign a static ip, the phone connects fine to the school network.
I'm running Resurrection Remix. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Thanks!
Try to enable "use old dhcp client" in developer options under networking. Maybe that will help

Thanks! Using the old dhcp client worked surprisingly. What causes the new dhcp client to not work or what is different about it?

My HTC Desire HD Wifi has ALWAYS been working at my home wifi network.
Over the last few weeks, it has stopped working for no apparent reason. My pc as well as 3 other laptops work perfectly fine...
When I try to connect to my own wifi network at home now, it REFUSES to obtain an ip address and simply keeps disconnecting...
It however works fine elsewhere....
Anyway I can fix this problem or a simple way to manually connect to my home wifi network?
Thanks in advance...
hi
Have you checked that your security settings are the same on the router? also try and reset the router i.e. unplug for 2 mins blah blah. I know the lappys are working fine but this is what I would do.
I use to have issues like this with my HTC Hero, how i resolved it was by adding the phones MAC Code to the router software. Found in ( Security>Mac Filter ) depends on router! but is something like that. The down side is thou, you will have to add the mac codes from all your other devices to the router also, so everything connects to your ISP. It has the benifts of a more secure network.
Hmm, thanks for the possible answers so far.
It is strange. I just went to a friends house who also has wifi, I connected as normal.
It immediately connected with full reception. It seems that EVERYTHING connects and works as normal accept for my own home wifi...
I have tried resetting it, turning it on/off, it still does not want to obtain an ip address...
what is your make is your router?

It's Siemens Gigaset SE568
I would advise you against using MAC security on your router. Instead try to "forget" your home network (Settings->Wireless&networks->WiFi settings, then hold your home network and "Forget network") and then re-add your network. If this doesn't work try assigning static IP address (Settings->Wireless&networks->WiFi settings then tap "Menu" and "Advanced" but this will make connecting to hotspots more difficult (you'll have to uncheck the static address every time you need to connect).

Thanks for the response. I tried the forget wifi network and readd it, still a no go...
Strange how my phone works ANYWHERE & EVERYWHERE accept for my own home network...
It's not important/urgent so I'm not too bothered. I just think it's strange why it refuses to obtain an ip address...

Did you try to asign a static IP address (don't forget to test if you are connected to the internet after/if this seems to work)? Then you'll know if the problem is with the DHCP service or something else.
Ok. Sorry, I miss understood your problem! First is the router assigning ip address via dhcp as you don't state?. So the static ip method, You can try, Im here to help not say what to do and not to try..But as your pc and laptops are working I don't think the problem with dhcp.
A very quick test is to set your router to a open network and try to connect. Does this now work when you try to connect? We will work backwards to solve your problem. Also are you using a wizard cd software from the router? Or connecting to the router software via the internet explorer?
e.g 192.168.0.1 ? etc.

Just tried the static ip address, still refuses to obtain an ip address...
As for the router, it's automatic, we simply turn on wi-fi on the computer/laptop, click the wifi network, put password and simply connect as normal....
Strangely my HTC Desire HD refuses to obtain an ip.
A few days ago I went to my brothers friends house for the first time, turned on wi-fi on my phone, went onto his network, put the password and it immediately connected without any problem...
I'm 100% sure the problem lies with my old piece of **** router, well it's not mine but my fathers and I cannot exactly tell him to throw it out the window it's complete ****...
What can I do simply to make the router work with my phone?
Is there any new device in the network? If there is turn off all wifi devices restart the ap and try to reconnect.
Try changing the ap name too.
Hope it helps!

Last resort might be to factory reset the router, then putting all the settings (e.g. WPA keys) back on.

I will try this later on and report back, thanks
The simplest way is to set your router to a open network. Then no key is needed by the phone. The phone SHOULD connect with no problems.
You then no its a key issue.

If it's not DHCP issue then it looks like authentication one. So wipe the router's configuration and if this doesn't work either I have another solution for you. It involves a hammer and an alibi
I have an i9023 UK version , 2.34 official version with 3G network (working on the phone)
I am now using the building wifi hotspot function (open)
my ipad2 & thinkpad T520 can both find the hotspot and connect
however, both deceives wont connect to the internet
my ipad shows me the DHCP config
IP address : 169.254.57.192
Network mask: 255.255.0.0
any suggesting? thanx
Well you have a self assigned IP address which is not going to get you anywhere. Try rebooting your phone or restarting the hotspot app.
Also try restarting your iPad as well.

I did it multiple time reboot all the devices do I need to root? Thanx
hi guys,
so i bought my Lg g2 yesterday and i can't connect to my wifi network, the phone says obtaining ip address over and over again. i searched the internet and found that is a very common problem. it has something to do with my router so i installed a firmware update. the router (dlink dwl 700ap) is borrowed from our cable company and is already quite old (the newest firmware dated from 2008). since updating didn't work, tried to change every possile setting in the router menu, also didn't work. (i came across a setting saying dchp disabled(by default), tried changing it to enable but some devivces could not connect anymore). i tried some apps from google play but non of them changed anything. i also tried to use static but i could not acces the web (i think the static setting were coorect since i copied them from my "ipconfig" in windows, wath i found weird is that the ip adress of the router said 195.168.0.50 while the ip on my computer said 85.XXXXXXXX.). so i factory resetted my G2, didn't work.
i can connect with every device to my router (s3, ipod touch, lumia 720, iphone 5s) and i can connect my lg g2 to every other network.
so should i return my lg g2, call my cable network or ?
can anyone help me ?
thanks a lot, i really appreciate it
ps sorry for my bad enlish
Turning on dchp will try to auto assign ips so make sure all devices are set to auto or reserve the ip at the router level if you wish some to be static.
As for static ip settings. Make sure the ip you're trying to get the phone isn't assigned.
Default gateway (from the information you've given) 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

thanks for the quick reply! i used the ip adress of the router (192.168.0.50) and your default gateway and still can't connect the web.
as for dhcp, i really don't understand how dhcp is disable as a default on my router and still every single device can connect and us the internet at the same time

still not working, thanks for trying. wishing i never bought a lg g2 in the first place
Anyone else got the same problem ?
Can you connect to the hotspot on another phone?
Might be a stupid suggestion but since you asked, the password on your G2 could be wrong for your router :/

Yeo! Hmm I would say it's a problem with the router, esp since you can connect to other WiFi networks from your phone. Have you tried resetting the router itself? Drastic but I can offer no advice from the settings standpoint

yes did a reset, no change. Are you sure it is the router because i never had any problem with it.
I cannot be *sure* of anything but if your phone can connect to other devices perfectly well then the most obvious source of error is the router
You mentioned that toggling dhcp on breaks the connection for other devices - does it fix the connection for your g2?
I took a look at my router settings for static IP address and I have no idea how to set up static addresses haha.. (Not sure how your other devices connect if dhcp is off as I know next to nothing about networking)

i had that problem "obtaining ip address" when i use MAC filter, which allow only registered MAC address connect to the router. i registered my LG g2 MAC address to the router and the problem gone.
hi guys
i found the problem
it happens just when you disable auto update in "settings>general>about phone>update center>software update>check automatically"
I just received my Nexus 6p last night. It connected and ran just fine on my home network. I get to school this morning and I can not connect to the school wifi which uses 802.1x MSCHAPv2 authentication. My Computer and my friend's Note 4 next to me can connect with out issue. Anyone else have this issue? Possible solutions?
*UPDATE*
I just tried to connect to our guest Wifi with the same problem. Instead of using MSCHAPv2 Auth, the guest WiFi uses a captive portal. I still can not obtain an IP address from either. It looks like it might be an incompatibility with the access point itself? This is really weird as 1 / 2 of the networks I have tried to connect to succeeded and one was a Asus router (my home). The access points I am having trouble with are Aerohive from what I read on them. I do not know what the controller specs are.
i'm having issues connecting to a regular enterprise PEAP network, it just sits there saying "Connecting...", whereas our public portal it pulls up fine. still can't figure out why.

Yep, my company network uses PEAP + MSCHAPv2 and I couldn't connect with my 6P. I forwarded that thread to our IT department and a couple days later it magically started working correctly.
OK, I have discovered a work around. Sadly I don't have a responsive IT department at my school. What I have found is to use the DCHP client from lollipop. Enable developer options, enable "Use legacy DHCP client", reboot. This is just a work around and I hope someone finds a solution to this, either on the android side or on the server side. I know my campus uses windows server 2008 for their radius and auth server so the freeradius TLS 1.2 issue isn't totally relevant. Maybe someone could enlighten me how TLS 1.2 is handled in Windows Server.
Hello,
For the last couple of week I have been having an issue with my Nexus6p on Android N 6 r3
Today 6/16/2016 the r4 update came out thinking it would fix my issue but it has not.
MY issue is that when i try to connect to my Colleges Wifi i get the following error "Connected, no internet"
My College has 2 wifis, an automatic wifi login system using PEAP and one similar to a hotel wifi login system .
All other networks I try work fine (home, friends wifis, etc)
The only way I am able to connect using my school wifi is through my VPN.
I have attempted the following
-Factory resetting
-resetting the phones network settings
-Statically setting and IP
update
another fix i found was using a static IP address.
in android N r3 and r4 there is no legacy DHCP, this may be the cause of the issues, and ideas ?
