Need help urgently !!!!!!!! - Galaxy Grand 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HELLO EVERYONE,
I accidently corrupted my platform.xml file on grand 2 duos. Now I am unable to view anything from the stock file manager or any other, when i open file manager it shows folder empty although on my computer my phone memory and card memory appears to be consumed , so kindly anyone tell me how to fix this problem as i don't want to lose my data. My phone is rooted and i was trying to tweak write permissions on ext sd card on kitkat 4.4.2 until accidently i corrupted it. PLEASE kindly send platfor.xml file to
email: [email protected]
I WILL BE EXTREMELY THANKFUL. PLEASE SEND ME ASAP OR TELL ME A METHOD TO FIX THIS.

Do this if you dont wanna lose your data.
1) Flash your current stock rom via odin without clearing cache or anything.
2) reboot > and select fix permission if it asks.
You'll not lose your root permission as well as data.
enjoy
hit thanks

Thanks for your reply sir. Phew! That saved may data and my time
I have got another question. I have rooted my grand 2 duos and have installed philz touch recovery but when i check my knox counter it says 0x0. Does knox not work on grand 2? And can i flash a custom rom like cyanogenmod on my phone without tripping knox?
THANKS IN ADVANCE.

[Q] Problem creating a TWRP Custom Recovery with Odin

Hi everyone. I have followed the YouTube video by Chris Nacca (http://youtu.be/Ov6BXOu7SwA)that uses TWRP 2.5 custom recovery (file: openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.2-jfltexx.tar) on my unlocked GT-i9505 S4 using Odin 3.07. Unfortunately, despite the message from Odin indicates all worked fine (<ID:0/004> RES OK !!), on rebooting my phone back into Recovery mode, I am greeted with the Android character telling me there is an Error and then "dying" and saying "No Command".
The phone isn't bricked as I can move the highlight bar through the various menu options at the top left-hand side of the screen and reboot back via my stock ROM but clearly the Custom Recovery hasn't been installed correctly and, despite the Message screen in Odin showing <OSM> All threads completed. (success 1 / failed 0).
I have a rooted and unlocked GT-I9505 with a baseband reading as: I9505ZHUZME1. Anyone got any ideas or advice as to what may have gone wrong as if I can't sort this out I can't move to a custom ROM. :crying:
Many thanks in advance, Jim

Thanks for your reply. Being new to Android, am I correct in assuming that I merely download the last .tar file from the page you provided the link to and install it as I did the TWRP custom recovery file using Odin? Am I right in believing this will leave me with my Stock ROM but I can then do a Nandroid Backup and move to a custom ROM from there when I am ready?

Sorry small correction
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
use the above link which is PHILZ recovery
Edit : u have to have ur phone into download mode which u can go by
power off device unplug press volume down home power all together till u get download mode and connect to device
the file extension will be .tar use it on PDA at odin and flash it
then u can take a backup of the entire current firmware and keep it to safe place like PC Hard drive and move to ROMS

Thanks. One (hopefully) last question: The link you provided has both *.zip and *.tar.md5 files. I presume you mean I should use the latter, and do I need to remove the last portion (.md5) to make it a *.tar file or use it as is in Odin 3.07?

User .tar one philz_touch_5.06.6-i9505.tar.md5 since u dont have recovery
No need to remove md5
Odin 3.07 is fine use
below line is Just for info
Zip files are " flashable made" can be used if a one is already having recovery etc like how u flash a rom from recovery

Sorry, back again. I have done as you suggested (twice) and still can't get my phone to install a custom recovery. While Odin once again reports a successful install (as it did when installed the TWRP custom recovery), when I reboot back into custom recovery mode after installing PhilZ Touch custom recovery (as indicated by the blue text on the start-up screen), I no longer get the dying Android figure as I did when installed TWRP custom recovery, but the screen goes to a black, vibrates and then the phone reboots normally (which is a relief). So, needless to say - I am stumped. Can you or anyone else offer any suggestions?

Definitely a rooted phone. I have SuperUser on it and a range of applications from Titanium Backup, ROM Toolbox, GooManager etc all confirm that they have root access.

Ok can u tell me how u have rooted the phone ?
Also download a app from play store "root checker" and see what its saying
possibly the recovery is not getting installed on phone coz of some root access
Edit : Superuser etc can be there from play store without root also wont work thought

I used Motochopper to root the phone. I have just re-installed Root Checker, and reconfirmed that confirms I have a GT-I9505 device that has root access.

Happy to try but could you point me to how I get back to stock firmware and then reset the device? I thought I was still using stock firmware (rooted I understand) so I think you must mean that I need to unroot my phone some how, reboot and then use the rooting process you just posted before install Philz recovery. Would you mind describing a little more - I know I have taken up a lot of your time but greatly apprecriate your help,

U can download the stock firmware from ur device I9505 will be abt 1.4 gb
once downloaded extract in a folder then flash using Odin pda - need to select .tar here again as u did b4 for recovery flashng etc
This will flash a Firmware and u will have stock phone unrooted
from there reset the device from ur phone which will remoce all the bad files etc and all the data also from ur Internal phone memory
after that as told Root and install recovery hope fully this will work without issues

Okay, got all that. I am surprised that you can flash stock firmware back on to your phone as I was under the impression you needed a custom recovery installed before you could add a custom ROM. Is that purely a "safety" precaution and I could bite the bullet and install a custom ROM now (should I be silly enough to try)? I do have may SYSTEM, APPS and USER data back up. Obviously I will loose everything on my phone doing this but can I expect that I can restore the APPs and USER data from my existing backup but not attempt to do this will the system files in fear of recreating the current problem?

Yes u can flash stock with Odin no need to install recovery for that..Custom recovery is needed mostly to flash custom Roms more or less u can say
and this method is 100% safe as long as u do properly
make sure u have 60% plus battery on the phone dont disconnect while its running / installing
and dont re install backup u have taken b4 with system files etc myte create plm
rather use titanium / mybackup pro app just to backup messages/ apps etc and save it else where or SD card for later use

Hi, I have done as suggested and flashed the stock ROM and performed a hard Reset. I didn't expect the flashing of the ROM would leave all my apps and screens as they were. Is that normal? I did confirm that the baseband number had changed, which is has. I then moved on to install the root as suggested and all seems to have worked well with the red Android figure appearing. Unfortunately SuperSU is complaining of not having the necessary binary files and Root Checker doesn't seem to be able to determine whether I have rooted phone or not as it just sits there complaining that my system seem slow. Any advice? Thanks.

Hi, yes I tried SU from play store - same issue. I also reset from the Backup and Reset option on the phone which did delete all the apps etc so to the best of my knowledge, I followed all the steps as described by you and on the various pages you gave me links to.
I have just tried SuperUser. It noted the binaries were old but when it attempted to update, said it "failed" to gain root access. Despite getting the confirmatory Red Android after the root process, I now wonder if it didn't go entirely as planned despite trying 2-3 times....?

[Q] problem with EFSpro...Whether the root is unsuccessful?

@Chainfire @lyriquidperfection or anyone:
First of all, apologies for my poor English. My phone is 9505, I used CF-auto perform root.
When I use efs pro, I got the problem:
adb is unable to obtain permission of the phone(prompt one interception dialog), but supersu has allowed it. Efs pro just stayed on "adb initializing...".
Whether the root is unsuccessful? how do I deal with?
I put the phone's basic information and some tips on the picture, I hope you guys can give me some help, thank you!

Before you start reading, I just let you know few things:
# We can understand your english
# You need to reflash firmware.
So, if you have CWM or "philz touch CWM", go there and wipe data and cache. Just pull out battery, do not boot Android, just switch somehow from CWM to download mode...
*Go here and find your model, firmware, read everything carefully.HERE
USE PIT FILE (link also there) with odin, flash firmware.
I remember I successfully updated my 9505 model from 4.2.2 to 4.3 using "Germany DBT (October 2013) (firmware with Enforcing SELinux. SECURED BOOTLOADER WILL BE FLASHED, NO DOWNGRADE) and am telling you this becouse I see you have 4.2.2 version "
OK, information above is information you need to do if something goes wrong.
!!!!!!!! I don't remember order what goes first, but you need to flash "Philz touch" via odin and "auto-root" by chainfire via odin.
The problem is, that if you flash (As I said - i don't remember order) philz touch and then auto root (or auto root than CWM) - root in your phone dissappears. All you need to do is:
# Prepare yourself - you need time to do it, no step-by-step instructions here.
# Keep testing, if root dissappers, do "restore" (i described you how with odin)
# Press thanks, I want to get thanks for my time writing here...
If you need any additional help - PM or better ask here, so everyone can see

In fact, I really encountered troubles:
1, I can not enter recovery: volum up + home + power, the blue "boot recovery" flashed just for once, then stayed in a black screen. . .
2, I can not enter recovery, so can not wipe data. I directly flashed fw with odin, but failed too. Odin mode showed:
knox kernel lock: 0x0
knox warranty void: 0x1
csb-config-lsb: 0x30
write protection: enable
...
sw rev check fail:. fused: 2, binary: 1
wtf the knox is...did it cause the failure?
what a pity ... I really feel frustrated. . .

If you are in I9500 you are in a knox free bootloader , you can do whatever you want , root , install custom rom , go back to stock ..no knox .
Just do not upgrade the bootloader , no stock upgrade , no OTA
Towelroot does not work on exynos processors, stay on 4.2.2 use stock base roms if you like the stock TW look

1: Try it and find out. I can't answer this as I have a i9505 and rooted it using Towelroot.
2. The EFS folder is where the device's IMEI and other relevant configuration data are stored. If the data is corrupted either a nandroid backup or a copy of the EFS folder contents should restore the device to working order.

Hi,
You can use cf root or flash (odin) philz touch and once there go to Philz setting and chose re-root system
The efs folder is not backup by nandroid it must be done separately you can do it with philz recovery Backup and restore/custom backup and select efs or use apps like Galaxysim unlock , it has an option to do it what is is well describe by @Strephon Alkhalikoi in the post above this , once again towelroot does not work in exynos S4
Thanks for your time! Am familiar with cf auto root, but Philz one seems easier as I also get recovery with it, can u link me to Philz recovery and root?Again huge thanks, am not using towel root?

@MAX 404: I'm running TWRP. Why then do I have "efs.info" and "efs.ext4.win" as part of my nandroid? Or is EFS actually hidden and what I got from the backup was only the files I could see?

That is easy , Galaxysimunlock and philz will do it for you provide you have the backup Both app will create a folder where it will put the backup( galaxysimunlock or clockworkmod) , make a copy and save it in the pc, when you ask to restore they will go and look for it in those folders and do everything ,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spocky.galaxsimunlock&hl=en

That is easy , Galaxysimunlock and philz will do it for you provide you have the backup Both app will create a folder where it will put the backup( galaxysimunlock or clockworkmod) , make a copy and save it in the pc, when you ask to restore they will go and look for it in those folders and do everything ,

@MAX 404: I'm running TWRP. Why then do I have "efs.info" and "efs.ext4.win" as part of my nandroid? Or is EFS actually hidden and what I got from the backup was only the files I could see?

Not an expert on twrp , maybe they do include efs in their back up , which is brilliant , on philz is not part of the regular nandroid , you have to request it from the custom backup section.

So when I want to go back, first restore nanandriod backup, then open the app and then restore efs, right?

Hi
first part :
Philz thread , he recently decided not to support any more his project so in the future you may have to move on to other recoveries like twrp , but at the moment is still valid and up to date
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280457
a little guide wrote by another user , is valid also for 4.2.2
second part yes BUT efs has to be restore if only there is problems with imei , wifi ....if not is not necessary nandroid is enough

Neither am I apparently.
The EFS backup in TWRP was only about 13KB, which is way too small apparently. I just downloaded Samsung Tool and used it to make a proper EFS backup. The final result was roughly 13MB in size, which seems more like it.

Root lost when updating firmware with flashfire!

Hey guys. I am using SM-G935FD indian version (INS). Yesterday i downloaded latest firmware (that samsung cloud) from sammobile.com. I tried updating the firmware with flashfire. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-easy-to-update-rooted-phone-t3342896) I pressed flash firmware package and kept "recovery" (because i wanted to keep twrp) unticked. But after that phone goes into bootloop. Only recovery was accessible. Phone was not booting up.
But thank god all my data was saved.
Then i odin flash the firmware with only AP ticked and damn my root was lost. My data was still reserved. Only was root was lost.
1. so is there any way to retain root while updating firmware with flashfire or odin
And
2.is it necessary to wipe internal data while rooting the device (as flashing twrp with odin and then booting into twrp for first time requires formatting internal storage). I know it is necessary otherwise phobe wont boots up but I DONT WANT TO LOOSE MY DATA. SO JUST PLZ TELL ME THE WAY TO ROOT AGAIN WITHOUT WIPING DATA.
Sorry if this question has been asked before. And i know we should not post any repeated question. But trust me i read all threads before posting here.but i cant find any solution for it.
Thanking you for your kind cooperation and support.
Device:
S7 edge SM-G935FD INDIAN
Plz help guys
