1. When Wifi is on, phone notifies me of every passing wifi possibility. I live in a populated area so these notifications are driving me nuts. Turning off the feature does no good. Other folks I know have the feature turned on without being bothered by the constant notifications.
2. Helium backup won't install. It keeps demanding ptp, but even if I switch it manually Helium will not install. I need a complete backup program for this phone.
Under wifi advanced settings, turn off network notifications. Can't help with the second issue.

Are you sure it's the phone notifying you of the WiFi availability?
Maybe you have a 3rd party WiFi scanner (or similar) app that is doing it.
If it really is the system, then you may need to re-flash the ROM.
Or maybe try Xposed module NotifyClean. I use this module to get rid of all the messages and status bar icons I don't like.
My phone isn't rooted.. My son has one of these phones and his doesn't do this. He is threatening to buy an iPhone. Yuk!
Titanium Backup Pro is best for app backups. Of course, you will need to be rooted with busybox installed. Also, after unlocking the bootloader and flashing TWRP Recovery to flash SuperSU zip for root, you can just make a Nandroid backup in TWRP.

I got a new Note 4 from Bell Mobility about a month ago...
I updated the software, rooted it and installed the Wanam modified Xposed framework.
I have lost the automatic rotation, except for the built in camera software. Nothing else will auto-rotate. Checked the gyroscope and checked a few 'leveler' applications - all tests pass. Oddly I noticed the camera software still auto-rotates, no idea why it is special.
I tried the Wanam Xposed module to 'Enable all rotation angles' it has made no difference. With screen rotation software, currently have "Rotation - Orientation Manager by Pranav Pandey" installed. Auto-Rotate On and Forced Auto-Rotate neither option will rotate the screen when I turn my phone. If I choose Forced Landscape, it will go into Landscape mode. The only way to return to Portrait though is to use one of the Force Portrait options though.
My other issue is with turning on Device Encryption... Using SuperSU Pro for su..
If I just go through the prompts without changing anything, it reboots but doesn't encrypt.
First I tried installing as a system app so I could use the Disable function in the Android Application Manager, as I did with my Note 2, SuperSU tells me "Not (currently) available in system-less root mode".
If I turn off "Enable Superuser" in SuperSU, encryption enables properly, but I am unable to turn the "Enable Superuser" again, it says it has to update, but the fails. Suggests a reboot and try again. Sadly, this did not help.
I had success with one of the exploit root methods, KingRoot. While this worked when my phone was encrypted, it wasn't stable and kept popping up stuff. I tried to replace it with SuperSU, there are a few guides written to do just that, but they all indicate that it is very hard to get rid of, regardless, none of the guides worked for me. I ended up resetting the phone and starting over...
I tried the CLI command to start the device encryption from a # prompt..
vdc cryptfs enablecrypto inplace password 1234567890abcdef
The phone rebooted a couple times, but took a very long time (hour plus) to come back to the Android Lock-Screen.. But still a non-encrypted device. If I intrupted the process because I thought it had crashed, it started up and immediately told me something when wrong with the encryption and I need to use Recovery to reset the device..
As for root methods, I was using the CF-Auto-Root at first, trying to look for solutions to both issues, I tried a few ways of getting SuperSU installed.. The last time I reset I tried the "SkipSoft Unified Android Toolkit" method. 'Grasping at straws' to get SuperSU installed into /system so can use the Applicaiton Manager to disable and enable it...

Currently have the Team Win Recovery Project v2.8.7.0 recovery software installed.
I am looking for suggestions for both issues, but really want to avoid resetting the phone if I can at all possible... Yes, I have Titanium Backup Pro installed, but have never actually gotten a restore to properly restore all my applications and data... I rely on it now just for the Uninstall and Freeze features.

I also noticed that rotation works on the Lock Screen and in the camera applicaiton.
If I rotate my screen on the Lock Screen, the red handset picture and camera icons rotate.
If I rotate in the camera application, nothing changes position, but all the icons rotate as well.
I'm still completely stuck though, open to suggestions...
For rotation, it is likely caused because you removed the com.thingy.facebook system app. I tried removing it because I thought is was bloatware but read somewhere that messing around with it cause the auto rotate and pedometer to fail. I fixed it by reflashing the rom without data wipe then never removed it again. Page Manager is safe to remove though.

I had it frozen for a while, completely uninstalled it, trying to see if lack of space was why I couldnt' get SuperSu to become a System App..
I will try to put the facebook app back to see if that helps. Hoping I don't need to do a ROM reset, but if that is what it takes.

I tried installing FaceBook from the PlayStore, no change.. So I uninstalled it again.
Took a backup in Titanium Backup and in TWRP.
From the stock image, I extracted system.img.ext4 and used SkipSoft's application to make just this file Odin flashable..
Flashed it.. When I got back to Android, my phone hadn't reset (what I was going for ), rotation is working, SuperSU still giving root access
I went back into Titanium Backup, the freshly installed apps were listed on top, because there was no backup of them.
Froze each, one at a time and checked the rotation after each.. Froze all the apps with no backups, and rotation stayed working, which I thought was odd for what fixed it.
So.. The Facebook applications are all frozen, as they were before I erased them the first time, and rotation still works. Hurray..
Now for the device encryption, I will keep messing with it.. Trying FlashFire to mount System as RW and to write the newest version of SuperSU, hopefully it will install to System this time.

This is amazing, can you please post the odin flashable file? I am having this exact problem right now because I removed it in TB. Is it just the facebook file that are flashed? Thanks so much in advance, you're saving my life here
Not sure if this is related, but I rooted my phone yesterday, went through and formatted data, etc (twice since it needed to be done after a bootloader unlock and again when I installed supersu), set up my phone and restored data with the LG backup I made, and everything is working great. Only problem (that I've noticed so far) is that my second screen doesn't give quick toggles as an option. It was there before rooting so, again, not sure if it's related. Any way to get it back?
Never mind, figured it out. Occurred to me that I froze something called "Quick Tools" via Titanium Backup because I didn't recognize it and I didn't have a "run app" option. But tada, it's back now.
I'm very confused by the behavior of my Nexus6p right now. I would like my phone to be fully encrypted, IE, you pick up the phone and can access absolutely none of my data without typing in a password. So I've clean flashed it several times, usually whenever a new update comes out. And each time I do this, the phone behaves how I want, when it boots, I get a password screen that says "enter a password to continue boot". It goes on this way for a day or so usually, and then suddenly this password screen stops showing up and I get the "you must enter a password after restarting" screen that clearly has already decrypted my data because I can see notifications and even play music through bluetooth without entering the password.
After each clean flash, I have been installing various mods. This time around, I have the things I've flashed down to TWRP 3.1.0, Magisk 12, and ElementalX 4.08. In the security settings, the phone still reads as encrypted, so I'm very confused. Is this normal behavior for this device, or is it one of the above things I have flashed? Either way, how do I fix this so that my data actually stays encrypted when the phone boots?
I have had similar issues to fix I formated everything and then installed the rom installed newest vendor image and then kept on eye on what I allowed special access to my phone
Keeper was wanting special access so I stopped using them and switched to last pass I have not lost decryption on phone boot
Also decided to pay for esexplorer pro to get ride of any possible infected ads
Your phone data is still encrypted, but your security settings are not optimized for what you want to accomplish. Make sure your Lockscreen has a password/PIN/Gesture set. There is the password on BOOT when encrypted, a password on Lockscreen when the screen is off, and In Settings>>Notifications>>Gear Icon>>"On the lock screen"- there are three settings. Default is set to "Show ALL notification content". Set it to NOT show notifications for now until you set which ones you want to show or hide. TWRP and EX are not causing your issue. Magisk might be but I don't use it. Uninstall just to be sure and/or check in the dedicated Magisk thread. This is on the stock 7.1.2 ROM. If you are running a custom ROM, YMMV.
So if I understand the issue correctly, you clean flash and you have the prompt to enter your credentials before booting finishes. Eventually you get set up and upon a reboot you notice that the prompt is gone?
Check your apps. You're using an app that requires an accessibility service (see Settings / Accessibility / Services). Granting an app accessibility service will do away with the boot entry of your pin/pattern/password. Set up your apps again and either don't use the app in question or just don't grant it the accessibility service for whatever feature requires it.
Known issue, btw. I forget why it happens, Google may turn up the results you're looking for.
Edit: Despite it not asking for that prompt on boot, your phone is still encrypted, by the way. This also has absolutely nothing to do with TWRP, EX, Magisk or how you choose to have your notifications hidden on lock screen.
2nd: Sadly, just revoking the service won't usually restore the prompt while booting. You'll need to clean flash again and not grant it in the first place.
That makes sense, I was looking in the wrong place. That's a really irritating design decision, there's no sense in having the encryption at all if you're just going to store the material necessary to decrypt the data in the clear.
For now, changing my password seems to have returned the encryption prompt while leaving the accessibility services working to the best of my observation.
It will probably go away again shortly​, most likely after the app uses the accessibility service. If it does, revoke the service and change your password again or clean flash. I don't believe there is a way to keep both 100% of the time.
So I bought a Galaxy S8+ (7.0) to replace my 6P (8.0), and I'm trying to copy my app data over. Not having any luck. Any suggestions for how to do it? The apps themselves are no big deal, I can download from the Play Store, but I want my data.
6P is still completely stock - locked bootloader, so I would have to erase it to root. This would defeat the purpose. If there is a way to do a complete backup, root, and restore so I could use TiBu that would be awesome.
I do have Google apps backup enabled, and I have a backup on Drive that I can find and see all my apps. However, according to this link you can't restore from a newer version of Android to an older one. It never gives me the option to restore when I add my Google account to the new phone, and I can't find a way to restore from Drive on the new phone, even though I can see all the apps in the backup. Downloading apps from the store doesn't restore their data either. I can't downgrade my 6P back to Nougat without root either.
I tried Helium Backup, but it just simply doesn't work. As evidenced by many comments on the Play Store it doesn't work on the 6P.
Am I just stuck? I would think there would be a better solution than this.

The problem I am having with Helium backup is that it just doesn't seem to work. If I connect through port 5000 from my PC (PC download) and tell it to backup then it just sits there and says "waiting for [IP address]" and never comes back to save anything. If I try to backup to the device, it does a couple of different things - it comes up and asks for my device password (which I put in settings) and then it fills in the password for me, but then either the "Back Up My Data" is grayed out or it sits on that screen, fills in the password, and then the apps start cycling through while it is adding characters to the password, then it gets stuck and stops. I have to reboot the phone to reset the backup to try again. (It's not locked up, just Helium is stuck.)
I'll look into Holo and Super Backup.
Followup: No go on the others. It says Holo can only be used to restore to the same device, and Super Backup needs root to backup the app data.
Bad for you, I doubt there is way for you to backup with a locked bootloader if none of the apps are working.
The only way to root a phone without a patched boot.img (SuperSU and magisk) is to use kingroot, but I highly doubt this will work. Do yourself a favor and root your s8 to avoid this the next time.

Yes, pretty much. Google restore is decent in getting your new device close to where it was, but app data (especially for non-Google apps) can be a problem. Sometimes the app has a dedicated folder and you can try copying that over. This worked for me once long ago with WhatsApp before it had it's own backup capability. After the Google restore, exactly which apps are you needing saved data for? Someone may be able to chime in if it is a specific game or well known app. Now that root is available for S8+ you should do that asap before getting it all set up the way you want it. It's only painful one time, but then you will have access to TiBu and all the other "essential" root apps.

The problem is that Google restore didn't work either since it was going from an Oreo device to a Nougat device. I didn't think backing up was a big deal since Google is supposed to handle it, but it's not doing me any good at all. I couldn't do a full restore from the phone, and when I reinstall apps from the Play Store it doesn't include the data. Most things have accounts so I can set it back up again, but all of my preferences and settings for every app are gone. I'm pretty much having to go through app by app and reconfigure everything. Plus I have lost high scores and low times for several games...
My only concern with rooting the S8+ is that I have seen that it makes Android Pay not work, and some people say the Play Store has issues. Is that true? I've just begun researching it.

I'm afraid I can't be of much help because I don't use Android Pay or Samsung devices (except the Galaxy Nexus which was great) ...but both Pay and PlayStore seem to be working fine on most rooted devices. I have never had a PS issue due to my phone being rooted. I just know I won't be without root because the root apps I use are more important to me in every day use. It's up to the individual to decide whether root is right for them, or not. I suggest hanging out in the Sammy board here on XDA, read and ask questions until you know what you want to do. BUT what I said earlier is true and most will vouch for me... make the decision asap, because unlocking and rooting will require wiping the phone.
Edit: Side note... just found this article which doesn't help you, but it does raise a question: Did you initiate the restore during the initial setup process on the S8+ or afterwards? If afterwards, wiping the phone and trying Google restore again may work.

I recently purchased the Nothing Phone 1 running on the latest version of Android 13. After rooting my phone using Magisk, I installed several Magisk modules which worked fine initially.
Here's a list of Magisk modules that I installed in chronological order:
Font Manager
NotoCJK
Fullscreen/Immersive Gesture
G-visual (later closed as I didn't see any effect)
Shamiko
DRM disabler
Revanced Youtube
Webview Manager (replaced with ungoogle chromium)
Nexus Media Before installing the 10th module, I took a full backup of my device using Titanium Backup. However, during the backup process, it got stuck while backing up a file named "Media 13-9427200." After several attempts, I had to cancel the backup for this file to complete the backup process.

After installing the 11th module, I went to bed and installed several applications before sleeping, such as Kiwi, Shizuku, App Ops, Buzzkill, Automate, Vmos, Brevent, and Greenify.

After installing the 13th module, I noticed that my phone started behaving abnormally, and it would automatically reboot. Every time I start the phone, the interface freezes after two minutes, and it restarts automatically after several seconds. This scared me, so I uninstalled all the Magisk modules and applications installed after the 11th module and disabled the two audio modules, but it didn't seem to work. So, I turned off the phone for a few hours, and it seemed to work fine after that.
When I tried to log in to my Reddit account, I found that I couldn't use "Continue with Google." When I went to the Google section in Settings, I found that I couldn't open it either.
I searched for solutions online and found that the problem might be due to the Webview. I replaced it with Ungoogle chromium and downloaded the latest version of Android Webview from the Play Store and disabled WebView Manager. But nothing worked. I tried updating the Carrier Services and clearing the Google Service's cache, but it didn't work either. (All Google apps can be opened and used normally.)
After updating the WebView, things got worse. I use a third-party launcher called Smart Launcher, and I have many customized app icons. I found that all customized app icons no longer work, only the native icons can open the app.
I am really frustrated and everything seems out of my control. I decided to restore all the data from the backup I made last night using Titanium Backup (in snap mode). Unfortunately, after the restore was complete and I restarted the phone, I found that my phone was bricked. I can see the boot animation and select the launcher, but once I choose the launcher, the screen goes black, and I cannot do anything. I am also unable to enter Safe Mode as it keeps restarting.
At the same time, I used a software control my phone. I can see NOTHING in sdcard.
What can I do? Is there any way to fix my phone and preserve my data? If not, I am willing to wipe all my data. Also, if I restore my phone to factory settings, can I still use the backup data I made with Titanium Backup?

Seems you've broken lot of system apks , clearly Nothing Launcher is first . See if you have a intact bootloader and use fastboot commands to flash the launcher but I'm quite sure there many culprits in system .
So maybe short way is to flash entirely system image shown here in one of all threads about phone unbrick
