Second Screen No Longer Offering Toggles as An Option - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Not sure if this is related, but I rooted my phone yesterday, went through and formatted data, etc (twice since it needed to be done after a bootloader unlock and again when I installed supersu), set up my phone and restored data with the LG backup I made, and everything is working great. Only problem (that I've noticed so far) is that my second screen doesn't give quick toggles as an option. It was there before rooting so, again, not sure if it's related. Any way to get it back?

Never mind, figured it out. Occurred to me that I froze something called "Quick Tools" via Titanium Backup because I didn't recognize it and I didn't have a "run app" option. But tada, it's back now.

?!?! I've lost multitouch, market, NookColor Tools and I don't know what else

So I was (and I hope still am) happily rooted with touchnooter. Mostly I'm using my nook to read pdfs with ebooka pdf for grad school.
I had the thing plugged into my comp for a bit to download the week's assignments and I noticed once or twice the thing disconnected and reconnected itself without warning. No biggie. I finish the downloads, do a few other things eject the device and unplug the USB cord.
Since then, strange things have been happening. Symptoms I've noticed so far:
1. n button no longer emulates the home button but has reverted to the old bottom menu that comes with factory setting nooks (home/library/etc)
2. While investigating this, I noticed that the shortcut to NookColor Tools is now a dead link. Has the android box icon and doesn't do anything when you click it
3. Search market lets you enter in text, but when you hit search... nothing happens. Market seems to have vanished from my app drawer. In fact several have but I can't identify them.
4.The music app, which I thought I uninstalled, has reappeared in my app drawer
5. Multitouch zoom no longer works in eBooka PDF reader. Don't have any other apps to test multitouch with, but this one's kinda critical and was what led me to finally posting on here.
Up to this point I'd never had any of these problems. NoRefresh was always a bit funky, often turning itself off for no apparenet reason, and sometimes not being able to start up at all. But that was it. Now I feel like my nook might be losing it. Any idea what's going on or how to fix it?
Now I've noticed that Nook Touch Tools, while still installed, has lost root permissions. Also when I try to hit the B&N buttons thing, I get an error saying "No patched android.policy.jar found"
SU still installed, I'm going to try to futz with it and restore root permissions manually. Still clueless and worried.
EDIT I've been poking around more and found the following:
-BusyBox Installer, when run gives the error "The su binary was not found on your phone. This application will not work without root.
-#superuser runs fine and lists nook touch tools, button savior, norefresh, usbhostmode and ES file explorer as all being allowed to have root access. Don't see an obvious way to add more apps to that list (or why nook touch tools thinks it doesn't have access).
-Super Manager does not run
-youtube app doesn't run. Not like I use it, but given market disappearing it seems ominous
-the thing has now frozen on me multiple times while using Ebooka PDF reader, which use to be rock stable.
...do I need to factory reset and start over? I'd really rather not if I can avoid it.
EDIT (again): Man, as if this wasn't weird enough already. I've just went into nook's system settings and the firmware appears to have downgraded itself to 1.0.0. I could've sworn I'd gotten it to 1.1 before I rooted it, but since that was almost a year ago I guess I could be mistaken.
Progress! Or at least a clue. I did some research and found that 8 false boot attempts causes the thing to factory reset. I was not in the room the entire time the thing was accidentally disconnecting from my computer.
You see I have pretty much given up at this point and resigned to factory restting and re-rooting. So I backed everything up, got nook manager, made yet another backup with that, and then told it to use factory.zip. So it did. The thing restored factory settings, then rebooted... and looked exactly the same. Still registered to me and everything and all apps are pretty much exactly how they were before when I first started noticing problems.
In other words, I think this all started when, without my realizing, the thing factory reset itself.
I'm gonna try upgrading the FW and rerooting, this time using Nook Manager. If things get nasty, I can always restore the backups.
Solved. I hope this solo thread account is useful to someone else who encounters the same problem. Thinking a little more carefully, I went back to TouchNooter instead of Nook Manager and used the 1.1 FW. That and the multitouch and usb host kernel patch via CWM did the trick and my nook is back to functioning as well as it ever did. That was several hours I wish I'd been asleep for instead...
NOT Solved. The d*mn thing reverted and I don't know why. I didn't have it plugged it at all (ie none of the disconnection problems I mentioned before), but all of the old symptoms have returned and I'm back on firmware 1.0.0. Will re-root and re-patch the kernel. Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on or how to prevent it from happening again?
EDIT: Well that plan failed. TouchNooter semi-bricks the device. I can recover using Nook manager to restore factory.zip, but haven't figured out anything past that. I'm going to try erasing as much as possible and then rooting via NookManager...
Well. I erased and deregistered the device, upgraded the firmware to 1.2.1 (per Nook Manager rooting instructions), and rooted using Nook Manager instead of TouchNooter. I used GApps attack and everything seems to be working fine... except I've still lost the main features that brought me to making this thread in the first place: multitouch, usb host support, and now also NoRefresh is nowhere to be found. Is there a way to get these back without using adb? I can't get my comp to recognize my nook as a device through adb, but I've got a ClockworkMod disk image I can easily play with, so .zip patches would be most welcome. Thanks!

[Q] Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.

Hey guys, new owner of the Verizon Note 3.
Love the phone and everything is fast and great.
I'm on 4.3 MJE and rooted. Safestrap installed with no slots, just the stock. Wanted to be able to make backups and have the recovery option.
Just this morning my Note 3 stopped letting open the settings from any angle. From notification panel or anywhere else.
It immediately closes and shows the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped"
I tried rebooting to safestrap and wiping cache and dalvik cache.
no fix.
I have some system apps frozen with Titanium backup, but have defrosted the ones I very recently froze to see if that helped. And still not able to get into settings.
Any advice? I'm sure you all appreciate how much of a pain in the butt it is to factory reset or flash and start over! I hate reconfiguring my apps and settings! So if that can be avoided in any way I'd be soooo happy!
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you need to reboot after unfreezing; you didn't mention if you did that.
The best way to avoid this kind of situation is to make Nandroid backups before you start tw3aking. Sure they are huge, but look at your situation now. You can always delete them after some time after it is clear they are not needed, but you can't create them out of thin air when it is too late.
So, before you make things even worse with further experimentation, make a Nandroid right now of your semi-broken setup. If you break things even further trying to fix this current problem, at least you can go back to where you are right now. You might want to make an TiBu market app/data backup as well and get the TiBu backups onto external media in case you need to go all the way back to Odin.
Dump your logcat after the "Settings" crash. There will be further clues there (possibly undecipherable, but hey.) Post that up to pastebin.com for others to look at if you don't grok it. (but scrub any personal data in there first). If you don't already have USB debugging turned on, you can use a terminal emulator or a Logcat capture app.
# logcat -c (to clear the log)
( force the settings crash)
# logcat -v threadtime > /sdcard/my_logcat_after_settings_crash.txt
There is a chance that it is something simple, e.g. one of the sqlite databases in /data/data/com.android.settings is corrupted, but the various Activities that are launched from underneath "Settings" touch stuff all over the /data partition (e.g. /data/misc and elsewhere). From where you are right now, there is no way to know whether your problem is due to:
(1) a problem in /system
(2) a problem in /data
(1+2) both
your turn.
Restored nandroid backup
Thanks for all the tips!
With some reluctance I managed to move to a much older backup i forgot I made and the settings works fine again!
those backups are a life saver.
Thanks again.
tw3ak.
Glad you got it fixed.
I had something similar happen last night - I accidentally fat-fingered a language change, and every time I went back in to fix it (Settings -> Language & Input), Settings would crash. (This is on MJ7)
Took a while to manually figure out how to fix it (Doh, /data/property/persist.sys.language) without restoring a backup. I didn't mention it here right away because your symptoms sounded different - Settings was crashing for me only when I went in to the Language & Input sub-menu)
Try using SS 3.65 and not the newest version and see if that fixes the problem.

[Q] Weird, weird issue - Home button/notifications panel don't work

To preface,
I'm running an AT&T LG G2 rooted (with a couple of Xposed modules). I'm running 4.2.2
Today, I rebooted my phone after updating some apps from the play store, and then all hell broke loose. Here's a list of what went wrong
1) ALL of my settings were reset. Sound settings, call settings, screen on settings, etc. EVERYTHING.
2) My home button doesn't work. It lights up - it knows I pressed it, but it doesn't send me to the launcher. I have the home button programmed through Nova Launcher to open my voice search when I'm on the home screen - that doesn't work either.
3) My notifications panel stays empty - nothing shows up. On top of that, the little "gear" icon that should take me to settings doesn't work. There's a gear setting above that for sound that DOES work.
4) When I go to "About Phone", my phone name was reset to "G2".
4) Here's the kicker - When I go to "About Phone", the "Software Update" button has disappeared. What the hell happened?
If anybody can solve this issue, I have a small bitcoin prize for you...
Edit: Noticed something new. I went into Titanium Backup and it gave me a notification that my "Device ID" was changed. It states that this commonly occurs after a factory reset or ROM change? Here's the thing - I've never factory resetted my phone or even installed a recovery for that matter.
Notice #2: Volume keys don't respond. Although changing volume manually through the settings does work.
Quick note: I changed a value in settings.db using SQLite manager. I tried changing "tether_entitlement_check_state" to 0. And then I exported the DB and saved it. Would that have caused an issue?
well all hell really did break loose here, have you tried entering download mode and flash back to stock(I'm pretty sure this isn't you want to do) but it might be the only thing to do

Interesting. Thanks for the link. I wonder, other than hiding the "root" flags, how is this different from performing a factory reset? I would be opting to restore 4.2.2, not Kit Kat.

well tis is different to a factory reset as in it makes everything the way it used to be like if you were just powering on your phone for the first time while with a factory reset- if you have lets say deleted bloat and modified anything in the /system or other areas they are gone forever, the factory reset is more like a wipe your phone and start again(sometimes if you are rooted it remains rooted just without the su app)

Alright then...hmm. Wait I have another question. Does a factory reset delete my internal memory, the pseudo sd-card? Like my photos/TB backup/etc.?

I'm pretty sure it does but I have always had doubts about that(I usually always wipe with custom recovery so I don't remember when was the last time I used factory reset option, plus I upload a most of my backups into onedrive/goole drive/dropbox) also using the flash to stock method will wipe everything from the phone like I said its like powering it on for the first time just in case you were wondering

Okay, so here's my plan. I'm currently ADB pulling my entire SD card (with the titanium backup contents) onto my laptop. I plan to factory reset (the default android one that's in the settings). If that doesn't work, I will use the other flash-to-stock method.
Once I'm done, I plan to use Titanium backup to restore everything including settings. Here's my question:
When I'm restoring everything, will it be 1-click? In the past when I had other phones, the only time I restored TB was when I flashed different ROMs, so it caused havoc with my settings. Since I'm keeping the stock-ROM software, will I be able to 1-click "Restore" and have everything be how it used to be (Except for the Xposed Modules of course) ?
Also...I really don't like how MTP hides the Titanium Backup folder...

well I don't think you can one click restore with titanium backup(I don't see that as an option) you have to restore everything manually
as for mtp hiding the backups, I'm on the same boat as you

Referring to TB, you can set it to restore your backups with 1 click through "batch mode", but I believe you need to have the paid version.
Anyway, everything's fixed! I actually just put a recovery on it, and then deleted data and cache. That way my internal sd card didn't get wiped.
And I did a little more searching, it seems like modifying the sqlite database when you try to remove AT&T's tethering check causes the weird issue. I wonder if it's a secret backdoor program that makes your phone unusable...

Any other way to set up wireless tether? I've read that most wireless tether apps don't work. I haven't actually tried, but is that true?

GT-i19500 worked after being rooted, but stopped after the second or third restart.

Good evening xda-forumers, thank you in advance for any help.
I apologize if this question has been made 1000 times before, but I am kind of new at this. As you can see from the title, I am having problems with my cellphone after rooting it. To be more precise, it started working badly after I tried to to access recovery mode (to make a nandroid backup) and clicked "reboot system now". Now, every time I turn it on, it says "[App name] has stopped" for every app I had previously installed on the phone. Trying to turn off the device gives me the usual "Turn off/airplane mode/reset" window that I normally get.
My phone is an Samsung Galaxy i9500 with Kitkat (I think it was 4.4.2). The programs I managed to install before this were "Titanium Backup Pro" and "BusyBox". Both seemed to work fine.
Did I mess my phone going to recovery mode, or did something else happened?
Yours faithfully,
~BeardedGuy
Rooting shouldn't affect the installed apps. I have rooted several s3 and s4 phones without a problem.
I recommend backing up the data, flashing back to stock ROM, install TWRP, flash supersu from TWRP, restore apps and data.

Issues After Root - Rotation and Encryption

Howdy,
I got a new Note 4 from Bell Mobility about a month ago...
I updated the software, rooted it and installed the Wanam modified Xposed framework.
I have lost the automatic rotation, except for the built in camera software. Nothing else will auto-rotate. Checked the gyroscope and checked a few 'leveler' applications - all tests pass. Oddly I noticed the camera software still auto-rotates, no idea why it is special.
I tried the Wanam Xposed module to 'Enable all rotation angles' it has made no difference. With screen rotation software, currently have "Rotation - Orientation Manager by Pranav Pandey" installed. Auto-Rotate On and Forced Auto-Rotate neither option will rotate the screen when I turn my phone. If I choose Forced Landscape, it will go into Landscape mode. The only way to return to Portrait though is to use one of the Force Portrait options though.
My other issue is with turning on Device Encryption... Using SuperSU Pro for su..
If I just go through the prompts without changing anything, it reboots but doesn't encrypt.
First I tried installing as a system app so I could use the Disable function in the Android Application Manager, as I did with my Note 2, SuperSU tells me "Not (currently) available in system-less root mode".
If I turn off "Enable Superuser" in SuperSU, encryption enables properly, but I am unable to turn the "Enable Superuser" again, it says it has to update, but the fails. Suggests a reboot and try again. Sadly, this did not help.
I had success with one of the exploit root methods, KingRoot. While this worked when my phone was encrypted, it wasn't stable and kept popping up stuff. I tried to replace it with SuperSU, there are a few guides written to do just that, but they all indicate that it is very hard to get rid of, regardless, none of the guides worked for me. I ended up resetting the phone and starting over...
I tried the CLI command to start the device encryption from a # prompt..
vdc cryptfs enablecrypto inplace password 1234567890abcdef
The phone rebooted a couple times, but took a very long time (hour plus) to come back to the Android Lock-Screen.. But still a non-encrypted device. If I intrupted the process because I thought it had crashed, it started up and immediately told me something when wrong with the encryption and I need to use Recovery to reset the device..
As for root methods, I was using the CF-Auto-Root at first, trying to look for solutions to both issues, I tried a few ways of getting SuperSU installed.. The last time I reset I tried the "SkipSoft Unified Android Toolkit" method. 'Grasping at straws' to get SuperSU installed into /system so can use the Applicaiton Manager to disable and enable it...
My mobile's specifics, if it matters..
Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Model number - SM-N910W8
Android Version 5.1.1
Baseband version - N910W8VLU1COK3
Build number - LMY47X.N910W8VLU1COK3
Currently have the Team Win Recovery Project v2.8.7.0 recovery software installed.
I am looking for suggestions for both issues, but really want to avoid resetting the phone if I can at all possible... Yes, I have Titanium Backup Pro installed, but have never actually gotten a restore to properly restore all my applications and data... I rely on it now just for the Uninstall and Freeze features.
For an update,
I also noticed that rotation works on the Lock Screen and in the camera applicaiton.
If I rotate my screen on the Lock Screen, the red handset picture and camera icons rotate.
If I rotate in the camera application, nothing changes position, but all the icons rotate as well.
I'm still completely stuck though, open to suggestions...
For rotation, it is likely caused because you removed the com.thingy.facebook system app. I tried removing it because I thought is was bloatware but read somewhere that messing around with it cause the auto rotate and pedometer to fail. I fixed it by reflashing the rom without data wipe then never removed it again. Page Manager is safe to remove though.

Thank you,
I had it frozen for a while, completely uninstalled it, trying to see if lack of space was why I couldnt' get SuperSu to become a System App..
I will try to put the facebook app back to see if that helps. Hoping I don't need to do a ROM reset, but if that is what it takes.

I tried installing FaceBook from the PlayStore, no change.. So I uninstalled it again.
Took a backup in Titanium Backup and in TWRP.
From the stock image, I extracted system.img.ext4 and used SkipSoft's application to make just this file Odin flashable..
Flashed it.. When I got back to Android, my phone hadn't reset (what I was going for ), rotation is working, SuperSU still giving root access
I went back into Titanium Backup, the freshly installed apps were listed on top, because there was no backup of them.
Froze each, one at a time and checked the rotation after each.. Froze all the apps with no backups, and rotation stayed working, which I thought was odd for what fixed it.
So.. The Facebook applications are all frozen, as they were before I erased them the first time, and rotation still works. Hurray..
Now for the device encryption, I will keep messing with it.. Trying FlashFire to mount System as RW and to write the newest version of SuperSU, hopefully it will install to System this time.
Thank you again.
