NFC power consumption - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On Marshmalow... Anyone correlated higher battery consumption when the phone is dozing with NFC switched on? NFC shouldn't consume any power when the screen is off (let alone in doze mode) as it only works when the screen is on, right?

My NFC is on all the time for contactless credit card payments and it had no impact on battery drain OR if it does it is very insignificant.

NFC is eating up my battery

Usually when I'm using my phone at work it lasts me for about 8-10 hours.
NFC eats about 5-7% battery.
While the phone is resting, with mostly screen off, it ended up eating 15% battery.
I used internet sharing while the screen was off, is that the reason why NFC suddenly jumped to much higher battery usage?
But I can't seem to turn NFC off. It's grayed out.
Now, I found a solution on internet that I could just delete the NFC file from the phone. But I don't really want to do that.
Why am I unable to turn NFC off? There must be a reason.
Google or Samsung Pay running? I disable them because my banks don;t support them anyway- I get 24hrs batt life every day w/NFC off.
I would look into a widget to activate NFC when needed....

Cell standby still consuming power with AOD off...?

Hey guys, I have a small but annoying issue. Even if I turned off AOD, Cell standby still places second , after Screen, in the battery consumption statistics. With 19%. Is there a reason for this? I never has that high amount of power consumed by Cell standby.
Thank you for your thoughts.
It's normal. It still maintains a radio connection with the GSM tower, in order to be able to receive calls, right ? And if the phone is idle, since most of the OS is consuming less power, it's normal for the cell standby power draw to amount to a higher percentage from the total power draw (since the total power draw is lower).
I would theorize it would also be affected by signal quality and how much 'chatter' your phone ends up having with your closest tower(s).
I've no clue about the low level protocols in use but TANSTAAFL.
Thanks guys, I 'll leave it be then..
Which carrier? if T-Mobile turning off VoLTE and Wifi Calling (assuming you have a good cell signal) will reduce cell standby considerably.
Exynos thing cell is alwayd 2nd for me but i only look 1% every 8 hours in standby

Huge difference between battery life with AOD on and with it off.

finow x5 plus battery issue

When my finow x5 plus is in power savings mode and not being used, the battery drain is about 1 or 2 % per hour. When the watch is worn and subject to movement, still in power savings mode, the battery drain is about 10% per hour. I suspect this has to do with the pedometer function. In this situation, gesture mode is disabled so there is no screen activity to contribute to the battery drain.
My objective is to enable functions such as wifi, cellular, gps, or pedometer only when needed so as to improve battery life. So is there a means of stopping the pedometer service or disabling the sensor?

Strange-Higher Battery Drain on Medium Power Saving Mode/Adaptive Power Saving Mode

The 'adaptive power saving' mode is resulting in higher battery drain overnight (about 8-10%) compared to optimized mode (2-3%). I have tested this for a few nights and the results are the same. Disabling the adaptive power saving helps but this is not the solution as it defeats the very purpose of the feature. It's a similar issue with 'Medium Power Save' mode. Enabling this makes no difference to standby battery and overnight drain is anywhere between 6-10% compared to optimized mode. I dont have the screengrabs but I'm sure of this issue. Not sure if its just me or is this an Android 10 issue. (S10+ Exynos here).

i am using s10e, and i experiencing similar problem with yours. Medium power save mode drains more battery than ootimized mode.
That sounds ridiculous, samsung must fix it.

Battery drain Fossil gen5

Hi all,
Since a few days I have a huge battery drain om my Fossil gen5. It never was the best battery, but it lasted from 6am till 9-10pm before it went in battery saving mode (without sport exercise)
Now it's already in batt saving mode after 10 hours .
Everything is "on" except WiFi, nfc and OK google detection. The same settings and apps as a month ago.
Are there any tricks/mods/custom roms to extend battery life without compromises in functionality?
I already did a reinstall, but unfortunately it didn't affect the battery life.
Hope someone can help me

Other than turning off things like Location (as you already have Wifi and NFC off), not too much else than uninstalling apps you don't need, and turning off Notifications on most of your apps except the main essentials you want.
Turn off Always On displays, or the Tilt/Tap to Wake (they do consume more battery and it's just as easy to hit the main crown).
Only turn on Location/etc when you need them rather than on all the time.
Also the little battery inside, if you've been using it from 0% charged to 100% the whole time, instead of keeping in in 20% ~ 80% (ie: not charging more than 80% or so), the battery itself will deteriorate after a while. Keeping it between 20% and 80% typically keeps most Li-Ion/Po batteries healthy longer. (kind of why wireless ear buds can't hold a charge anymore after 2 or 3 years).
