MTK2502C Development - Other SmartWatches

I just bought an Apple Watch clone purely out of curiosity. It was £60 delivered and YouTube reviews seemed good enough, so I thought I'd give it a go.
Whilst it's perfectly usable, I feel like they could have done a much better job on the OS. Everything is fixed in terms of colours and styles (minus 2x UI options and a few rubbish clock faces) and generally it feels a bit 'basic' and rushed.
I've been searching for ages trying to find out if there's a way of somehow 'opening up' the OS (using an SDK?) and changing some simple things like colour codes, and then maybe learning more and tweaking watch faces etc. I'm new to that kind of thing but I do programming on other devices.
I can't find anything at all on MTK2502C development. There's a few bits on MediaTek's website, a couple of Russian forums with files that go to dead links, and that's about it.
Does anyone know of any options with devices like this? The chip is reasonably popular in Asian markets it seems, as I've seen it on Moto 360 clones and other Chinese watches - so I figured it would have some info somewhere?
Thanks

Yes man, I have worked on a rebranding (changing watchfaces according to the store profile)
So yes, I've made kind of development

Wow really? I expected no response to this at all!
I want to say "How do you do it" but I fear that's too much of a blanket question. Do you have any links/advice in getting started with this, even if it's just dipping in and changing colour codes etc? Any resources you can share would be really helpful.
Thanks

Calm down, man, I'm not a brain killer I have created a relative simple algorithm so that ANYONE having minimum interest to be able to create / insert any watch skin they want
First thing first, I have to make sure that your watch is compatible with the firmware project I have developed because I don't want brick out your item, your watch has a chinese brand or something?
Tell it loudly!

Cool sounds interesting.
My watch is from this listing which suggests it's made by Goophone (however I haven't seen it on Goophone's website):
http://www.dhgate.com/product/new-goophone-smart-watch-mtk2502c-1-54-inch/165103941.html
The watch is discussed here in this Russian forum, and it seems to also come under the name as IWO watch, MOWatch and GWatch:
http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=682981
On the watch itself it gives the Version number in the 'About' section which may or may not be useful:
W300GG_02C_WATCH_INT_UV_02_151121
There's also this link which...well I have no idea what he's saying or doing but it might make more sense to you:

The series "it may be" the most important detail yes you have exactly the watch we are talking about. First of all, for any case you have to do a firmware extraction from your own phone, just to avoid all kind of unwanted events (if you speak about index table of colors makes me believe you already got over "readback breaktrough")
So the project consists in a firmware matrix having instead watch faces some markers (markers for main watches as well as for preview ones), you get it, start a small app (Mtk Res) where, by loading ROM file you become able to insert instead markers 240x240 gifs for main skins and 150x150 gifs for preview, save, flash the resulted firmware and tada
check here the stuff - link -
feel free to ask for any kind of clarifications

Not sure I totally understand but I'll have a play and let you know how I get on. Thanks very much :good:

Ok I got stuck pretty fast. I downloaded the files but I don't really know how to extract my current smartwatch software, or how to load new things in. Am I missing something?
I'm guessing there's some software I need? Do you know of any good tutorials on the web?
Thanks

Ah, I'm sorry, reading the main post in thread I thought you already was playing with Flash Tool and so on
So, you have need of Flash Tool and drivers (attached), install drivers, TURN OFF your watch start flashtool under xpsp3 compatibility as administrator, go add scatter file (the one you find in firmware you got from me) after press memory test /(ONLY) ram test, press start and connect the phone, if the phone got connection will show a report of your NOR flash, whatever, good made the link, disconnect the phone, get here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sma.../readback-extractor-mtk6260-firmware-t3289272 - and do first 5 steps (at third step instead 0x01000000 you have 0x00800000) and after come to me with the 8MB file, I can rebuild your firmware. Now from this moment you can do flashing, means press download (which means in fact flash) and connect the phone

OK I got as far as the RAM test but it sits at "0% waiting". I'm guessing it hasn't picked it up on the COM ports. Any ideas how to get around this?

Man, the watch has to be TURNED OFF, i hope you didn't forget it, maximum you get off battery and put it back. As about W10, I wasn't able to tame yet a flash tool make working in W10, maybe you know it better (switching off certificate check and all that stupid stuff), you don't have around an old good laptop with xp or w7?

Ah that explains it. I only have Windows 10. Let me look into disabling certificates. Thanks

Ok so I managed to disable driver signature checks and run the RAM test, it worked! here's a screen shot. I'll now work on the next part.

I've got to the next step re the 5 steps on the link you shared, but the address that defaults in FlashTool is not what was expected:
Shall I just go ahead with these settings?

Ok I had a go anyway. I did one file without changing the setting, and the next file changing the second address field to 0x00800000.
I have attached a zip of both files. ROM_DZ is the first one (no address change) and ROM_DZ_2 is with 0x00800000 entered.
(I know my phone isn't a DZ model but wanted to follow instructions :laugh
What happens now?
Thanks

You did very well man! now wait for me to confirm you have a solid ROM dump and to rebuild from it your original firmware. Then I will check if your firmware is primary compatible with the project and if everything is ok you can start change watch faces by your taste in the matrix file and flash it in your phone

So, everything is fine, here - link - you get your original firmware, extracted from the ROM dump you made, keep it somewhere in safe, if anything goes wrong in your flashing adventure you come back to this firmware and your watch will be like new
Now get back to the first files I gave you, the project firmware (hope you got them already) W300GG_02C_WATCH - MOD WF FULL, for the beginning flash it in your watch (choose scatter file from project firmware, press download and connect the phone), in this way you'll understand what's the catch, instead watch faces and preview watch faces you'll find markers. Now, that you understood the trick go back to computer, open Mtk_Res V1.3 ( here you find a brief tutorial about) and start to change the markers you find with watchfaces from mobile plus - full set new watch skins archive I've sent you initially, be attentive, 240x240 are for watchfaces and 150x150 are for preview ones. Once you think is ready save it as in tutorial and after flash it in your watch - and TADA! New watchfaces for your watch!
Before anything, do a copy of W300GG_02C_WATCH - MOD WF FULL firmware and keep it in safe, you'll have need for next time when you'll want another set of watchfaces on your phone!
Keep me informed about how things are going

I like it, good work. I like it especially it is a 3rd party software so that I can keep my Today screen. BTW, whats the diff of yours compared to the one at the other thread?
Anyway, although getting the aye-Phone interface is good for a start, I think it ought to be able to get some artist to make a better looking interface than aye-Phone.
BTW, as suggestion (for feature), I'm just wondering if you can make your app to respond to the D-Pad (the directional button), like those (say) SonyE phone and then display another graphics to show that the button is being selected.
Design case example:
All icons are black-white. Using your directional button, it goes from one icon to another. The selected icon will have colour (depending on design), and pushing the 'action' button will make it launch the app.
Final thing, whats the difference between yours and the one mentioned at the other thread?

The Difference is that the other one was in 12/24 hour format, it has no exit button, its 1Meg in size, it has some memory leaks that people complained about. Im sure mine has issues as well so please test and let me know.
I can possible make it work on the dialpad with different icons when they have focus. I just wanne make sure it wont eat too much memory and become to slow. Im not good with graphics at all so any suggestions will be appreciated

I can try make it(i hope). Kinda newbie at programing, but i think i can make it work.
should i make it a seperate app and just make it change the config files?
think that would be the easiest, maybe.

Yep write a new app if you want and access the config files it would be the easiest. Im also new at programming. What i know i taught myself so thats why its so difficult to do this. This app took my 8 hours to write and im sure someone else could have done it faster and better. Lemme know if you know how to get the Network operator name and Signal strength and battery level out of the registry. I know where they are stored but cant seem to read data from the registry
try this one: http://www.developerfusion.co.uk/show/4640/2/
dunno what you can make out of it, since im learning VB.NET atm and have no clue about C#
found something from a previous app i made for windows, here is some of the code i used, dunno how it's done in C# but im guessing it wouldnt be very different
Imports Microsoft.Win32
Dim RegKey As RegistryKey
Dim regSubKey As RegistryKey
RegKey = Registry.LocalMachine
regSubKey = RegKey.CreateSubKey("SOFTWARE\Example")
regSubKey.SetValue("ExampleDwordValue", "0")
i think i would have used
regSubKey.GetValue("ExampleValue")
in VB but you should just try to find it.
hope it helps you in some way.
Lightweight and fast is good. As what you're doing is basically possible with WA + WAD. BTW, as for the settings, you may want to have the (4 x 4) + (1 x 4) icon grid flexible, incase people want to have large icons (less stuff to launch?). An ayeFone alternatives design, take a look here

I got the signal strengt working as well as reading the operator name from the registry. The only help i need now is to get the battery level from somewhere withing the registry, ill update the zip files on th first post
sounds good with the provider and signal info, will test it right now.
the icons: since i just arrived home, i did not have any new icons yet. but for workaround reasons, i attached a zip-file with the original iphone-icons , and a zip-file with the alternative icons. i numbered them in the original-iphone-order and added an additional rss-icon (for the 16. field).
(i was not really shure why you choose these other icons in the release (where are they from?)), but the original icons worked just fine for me. the alternatives also.
a blurry picture with before-and-after (left->your release right-> the original icons) is also attached.

roger that! and thanks for the screen-capture application.
i'll try to install it via parallels (a mac and a pocket pc is a disastreous combination )
one request: maybe you should use version-numbers by now. its hard to follow which iphone-zip-folder is the "up to date" one.

Tried using SNAPI?
Trying to remember but I think it was something like SystemState.GetValue(SystemProperty.PowerBatteryStrength).
Will test/check when I get home
*Edit* If you don't want to download the sn api then I think wm stores all state information in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State (battery strength, display orientation, num missed calls, num new sms's etc) */Edit*
Erg, sorry, just noticed the "Visual Studio 2003" part now. SNAPI requires 2005 afaik. Gonna have to grab it from manually from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Status\Battery
ok just tried the latest release. could it be that other file-extensions then *.exe are not recognized?

This application is just a "semi" application. It will probably not work good on all devices, since I've implemented some commands that probably are specific for wm2003.
It's made in Flash, and Flash communicates with mortscript for all external commands (to open apps, import ram, change backlight, etc), except some "sip" commands and a few more.
The links to the apps can be changed through the mortscripts, but not the icons for now. I will try and research for a way to do it, but "flashplayer 7 for ppc" can only read normal jpg, so i'm not sure if it is possible. In worst case after I'm finished, I'll at least share the .fla file for tweaking, with some basic documentation.
You will also need a flash compiler that can build .exe files of flash files for ppc.
Thanks for your reply. I hope that you are going to make a full working application and share it with us.
Thank you.

sorry... I'm pretty busy getting the mp3 player to work properly... it seems that the flashprojector has problems reading xml files outside the compiled .exe file.
I'm trying to get a workaround, but with my feeble actionscript skills it takes a long time...
(the thing is that the xml files is needed to add songs, and load mp3s... not the perfect way to do it but the only way to do it with flash...) I'll post more on this subject tomorrow.
Some bad news: since you have VGA resolution, and this uses qVGA resolution, it probably won't look good on your device. I will hopefully have an .exe compiled until friday.

That's the old version. A new video should be made to show the new items added like text keyboard, weather, news, apps, games, etc.

help me identify this

Downloaded a cab file from a chinese website, its a today plugin that when you click takes control of your today screen and gives you many buttons to cycle through move around etc drag and drop. Has its own background and signal bar etc. Seems to be a simple application launcher which slightly resembles the iphone. Found it in an elf thread but not sure if it is from an elf. I searched the forum and cannot find anything really like it(i mean apon looking at the contents of the cab versus the content of other things I have found here) I would like to find it in english if I could figure out what to call it. I am attaching the cab file, havent gotten a screen shot of it yet but its not gonna trash your phone just the characters wont display if you do not have chinese installed.
Any help appreaciated.
Jeff
Anyone know what this is? Is it malicious? I stupidly installed it, but it shows up nowhere in directory structure, remover programs, settings, or program folder.
It is not malicous I have installed it myself and it shows up in remove programs to uninstall. It not showing up at all is strange, what are you running? Did you reset after you installed it?
I am running LVSW's latest wm6 release. It installs and works fine except for the fact that chinese characters do not show.
I did a check on the CAB, and it seems alright. It is called "dDockView", installed to your "Program Files\dDockView" dir. All files are installed there, 2 at "\Windows" and a shortcut. Nothing in the registry, nothing nastily `malicious`. Two of the files in \Windows are "dDockView.xml", "dDockPlugin.dll". Delete these if you want to remove it.
From what it seems, it only execute if you run the "dDockView.exe" in "Program Files\dDockView"
And runs on WM6 only.
UPDATE:
Attached screenshots. It looks.. ifoney. From what it seems, to be a launcher, that, the bottom part gives you the 'Menu' or 'Page' for the programs icons above.
You'll have to modify the XML in \Windows to point to your program and icons, I think.
Hey thanks for posting the screenshots I was just about to upload some myself. I knew it was a launcher but none of the chinese would show up as I did not have the local installed.
Is this comparable to the iphone app posted in these threads? Ive been searching but I havent found anything close to what files it installs I can only assume that its something the chinese have made but do not quote me on that. I wonder how hard it would be to convert it to english.

I have yet to take any rom plunge. I am runing wm5 on my 8525 all I have done is put on the newest version of radio 1.43.
When I installed it I told it to use my storage card and it did not fail but said install was ok.
Your afraid to upgrade os but are ok updating the radio? I seem to remember reading that it is easier to brick your device radio updating than just upgrading the os but do not quote me on that.
@hanmin Since you were able to see the chinese characters, what was displayed on the normal today screen where you launch the program? Mine just showed an icon with many squares of course because I could not see chinese.
It seems like a decent launcher for one handed operation and the drag and drop works nice, still havent figured out how to customize it all yet but time will tell.

Didn't say afraid, said I hadn't done it yet. Still reading and checking on what one I want to try first.
@Bohemian, I'm sure Psiodon doesn't meant to say 'afraid', probably the word 'worried / doubtful' is the word he is trying to use. Anyway, good that you are doing that. There are various newbies around that jump in and die without knowing why
@Psiodon
I didn't install the app myself. I've just examined the CAB contents and did a bit of goggling myself. I don't even know that there is a today plugin (probably I've missed some lines in the CAB). From what it seems, you can happily skip the today plugin and launch it 'normally'.
@Boh, yes I did not mean scared afraid as hanmin said, just that you did radio first as I have not done radio yet but have done os many times hehe.
@Hanmin, I must be retarded how did you get those screenshots without installing it, some emulator or other way of extracting them? The retard thing can be verified with your reply haha.
Jeff
@Psiodon You can google for screenshots? There are forum discussing it with screenshots. Just grab it from there? And, yes, there are emulator for WM5 devices if you are interested. Get it free from M$.
Are those forums in chinese or english, could you post a link to it?
Thanks in advance
Jeff
can anyone covert it to english Please
@Psiodon Google for "dDockView"
@aih1977, from what it seems, it uses a XML file for all the setup and stuff, but it also has a few DLL files which maybe difficult to convert to English.
Hi Guys,
This today plug-in come pre-installed in S1 Dopod in china which is the HTC Touch "Elf". But this is only availible in default for china market.
You need to edit the xml to do batches change to del unwanted icon.
Too bad this come in chinese lang only. And I having some program in adding new program using the standard GUI. Think I need to use the xml to add new program.
That makes sense the chinese care nothing about copyrights which sometimes is a good thing.
The software has its own custimizing app built in, you just click the little down arrows and it gives you options to delete and add new as well as lock unlock the drag and drop capability, you can change text font colors etc, it has its own button library graphics you can select from etc.
It does what its supposed to do, launches apps, displays your messages count etc, goes directly to what you want it to go to, email for email, text messages for sms etc, self customizing (to an extent) drag and drop icons for ordering. Clicking the clock brings up time of course, clicking the service bars brings up phone properties. Its pretty quick to do its various tasks and seems to be a complete program, I did notice that it doesnt seem to show the status of bluetooth wifi etc at the top or maybe I havent figure out how to configure that.
If it were in english would be alot better thats for certain.

Translator needed...Chinese
I know that some people here speaks chinese, so could any of you please look into this and translate it
Is there a easy way to break of a DLL change (e.g. translate) it and put it back?
easy way hmmm. I tried translating it myself but with my limited knowledge on such things I couldnt really get anything important changed to english, just a few menu options that you could already figure out yourself. I had to change my local to chinese to get those characters to show up in my editing programs. Then had to make shift sign the exe then copy it over to the phone. Couldnt figure out the signing cab thing and didnt work much on that since I couldnt get much changed into english. I guess the other chinese is hidden in there somewhere but with the programs I used I couldnt figure it out. The other thing that bothers me about the program is that it will let you add control panel items, but not program items, when you select that option it just sits there. I assume some path being different on the chinese version of windows mobile 6? So with all the effort I didnt get far.
There are many people out there who translate programs from different languages, maybe they have more of a clue than I do, and the ability to fix the path problem with adding programs.

S2U2/Startup Animations

Might have already been done, but I was creating a little file store for myself for any animations I might want to use as S2U2 backgrounds or to replace the HTC startup, and thought I'd put it up here as well as a thank you to all the people who taught me how to do it and created animations.
Anyway - the file is pretty big (circa 15mb) and is stored here - http://www.humyo.com/F/5410591-173182029
If anyone has any issue with any of the images I've included, just post and as soon as I see I'll remove them from the zip.
Also, if anyone knows how to make them full screen, that would be most appreciated!
*Addn* Realised that these are designed for a QVGA device, so here's a site that allows you to quickly and easily resize gifs - http://www.smileygenerator.us/t/gifresize/index.php
Resize it by clicking on the scaling factor bit and selecting 2x
The file appears at the bottom so just save it from there and put it on your device.
Hope it's of use to someone!
Chris.

File not found!
It will be there in 6 minutes...
I realised I'd included some pictures that wouldn't be suitable for under 18s so to speak, so I've just removed it and am currently 3 minutes and 37 seconds away from having the new one uploaded.
give it 5 and try again, should be ok then...
All done, should be able to download at will now.
Sorry about earlier!
Thanks for the bundle but a good amount of the gifs seem to be corrupted or unfinished.
Needs a login and a pass!? Why?

What do I need? New phone!!

Will be taking delivery of my HD2 today. What do I need?
File Explorer? Total Explorer? Which version? According to the website none support the snapdragon processor(unless it has a different name)
What about to change visual aspects?
Is it just a case of finding a particular .cab file, loading it onto the SD card and installing?
And how does it work? If I install (for eg) transparent slider.cab ,then decide I dont want transparent just reduced transparency, do I need to uninstall the first one and install the second?

Seriously, wait till you've had the phone for about a week before doing anything to it. You sound like a puppy that's about to go for a walk! Chill man. Get to know the phone before you start changing it, or you'll just end up asking for things that it already does!
Yeah thanks.
Any answers to the questions I asked though?

File explorer will not let you copy/move certain files, but Total Commander, or Resco Explorer will. Just get the latest version, and don't worry about the processor. They run on Windows - they don't care about the processor.
If you install theme/visual changes, there's no hard-and-fast rule about what to do to replace the changes. Some of them you can uninstall and it restores the original look. Others don't. You can usually just install a new change over a previous one, but not always. You're gonna have to just find out through trial and error, or by asking, when you have specific questions to ask.
I wasn't being dismissive earlier - there's just no straight forward answer to such ambiguous questions.
Enjoy your new phone mate. I've had mine for 6 weeks now and I still love it like it was new yesterday!

Uhh... yes it does. Menu -> Edit -> Copy/Cut/Paste/Paste Shortcut. I've got Total Commander but I only really ever use it for registry tweaks.

Uhh... just because the options are there doesn't mean they work for every file. As you quoted me saying, "File explorer will not let you copy/move certain files" (certain files, not all files).
Thanks
Uhh... You're both right!
File Explorer will NOT let you copy/move/delete certain files
However it WILL let you copy/move/delete certain files
The key is the words 'certain files'. The 'certain files' John C is referring to are, for example, most of the files stored in the Windows folder and these tend to be exactly the ones we want to delete or rename. You WILL need one of the above-mentioned apps to mess around with them.
File Explorer is fine if you're only manipulating non-System files.

I was only explaining that I wasn't wrong - he'd misread my statement. Obviously if it doesn't work for certain files then it does work for the rest. The context of the question suggests that the OP needed that explaining to him, or he'd only come back later and say "I can't copy this manila file into the windows folder", and we'd have to explain it to him then!
Bottom line, we're all right, and we're all trying to give the OP a concise answer (which I think he's got now)
Ah ok, my bad. Sorry.
Ahhh... That's nice...
Now we're all friends again, to come back to the OP's original question, I'm with John C on this. Take your time, get to know your phone and decide what you REALLY need first.
IMHO, the only thing you should install from the start is the BSB Tweaks cab (Just search the Leo forum for latest version - I think it's in a sticky somewhere). This will save you having to install a Registry Editor and installing a lot of these tweaks manually. It also makes it a lot easier to switch the tweaks on and off.
There are also some HTC updates now available (for Camera, SMS and SD Card). They have been out for a few days now and I haven't seen too many complaints, so I would say they are all safe to install...
Finally... ROM updates...
There are a couple now available from HTC. But again, unless you're experiencing a problem which you know has been fixed by these new ROMs, I would leave them alone. I've still got the original O2 ROM in my HD2 and it's working perfectly well, so I've not bothered to upgrade just yet.
All of the above is just my personal opinion. Hope you find it useful...
By the way, if you find BSB Tweaks (or any other cab that someone has invested time and effort into creating) useful, you might want to think about making a small donation. A $5 PayPal transaction is easily made, costs about the price of a pint (in the UK) and really makes these guys (and gals) faces light up!
Wont be updating the ROM. TBH I dont even know if I will be keeping the phone. I am an iPhone owner .

Now you tell us...! ;-)
Just before we all get tarred with the same brush, I'm also an iPhone owner, and will be keeping my ROM-upgraded HD2 and selling my 3GS ;-)
Got my HD2.Although Im liking(not loving) it ,there are a couple ofthings I dont like.
1) I sometimes wake up to 30+ spam emails.Do I really have to open each one and delete them individually?(havent had the phone 24 hours so happy to be proved wrong)
2) I dislike the fact that when I delete an email from the phone, it deletes from the server
3)Dont like having to mess about opening different video players depending on codec (BUT it does play different codecs so cant really complain I guess)
4) This is probably down to not having too much time to play, but how do I get the screen to turn off? Is there a setting somewhere I can turn it off after x amount of time.Or do I HAVE to press the power button?

5) Oh, and the Alarm!!! Is it possibly the worst alarm on a mobile phone ever?
Im not the heaviest of sleepers but there is a strong possibility that I would miss the 2 second alarm.

1) You can click on "Inbox" then Menu->Select Messages->Several, Choose the messages you want to mark as read then Menu->Mark as read/delete
2) I kindof makes sence to delete the email - keep the two in sync or is that only my perception on things
3) Try use one codec possibly, I'm certain there are different players out there with the ability to play a wider range its just a case of looking (sorry i don't really use my phone for music/multiple video formats)
4) Yes there is a setting settings->sound and display->backlight
5)Agreed it is rubbish I've tried G alarm because everyone seems to rave about it but i wasn't too keen but you could still try it and it does do the alarm sound for longer than 2 rings
Thanks for that Strange though because the screen is set to switch off after 1 minute. It doesn't! Was still on when I woke up this morning
