I was so close buying the ZUK Z1 until I noticed some user review saying there's Cyanogenmod and CyanogenOS, I didn't know there's difference
The item I was going to buy is from eBay- http://tinyurl.com/jg8swsz
Down the page there are photos of the phone and one of them saying "Cyanogen OS 12.1"
What's the difference between the two? Should I buy this item?
Seller saying this is Cyanogen 12.1 , he doesn't know if it's OS/MOD as it something new to me as well .....
Please help me understand what does that mean
CyanogenOS is the software (rom) and it was made by Cyanogenmod.

Should I buy it from the seller? I mean all the phones of the ZUK Z1 I saw are CyanogenOS.... Will I have OTA for the 6.0 android when it's available?
Yes you will Buy it and enjoy.
OTA for Android 6 for Zuk should be in March.

I heard that there's difference between the ZUI & Cyanogen with the home button and the capacitive keys. The capacitive keys function as back & settings? is the finger id works good with the cyanogenos?
CyanogenOS model has the capacitive keys?
My friend has this phone for over a month (with cyanogen) , suddenly the phone turned off and doesn't turn on anymore, any fix for this?

My preference is version with cyanogenos, if you are interested in some modifications you can always change it to whatever you want. Check the forum. On zui capacitive home button works from start. On cyanogenos you need to install small modification, but cyanogenos is much more optimized. Whatever you buy you will get help with modifications on this forum

Cool mate, I am really looking buying this phone, great quality for low price.
As for the capacitive keys, if I buy the above item with the cyanogenOS - what do you mean I;ll have to do some modification and installation? is it something I do from the phone settings to make the keys work? I hope you don't mean rooting/flashing things :3
I mean flashing but trust me if u don't want to flash anything cyanogenos version is much better than zui and u can live without capacitive home button, maybe in March they will add it to the update.

I still think I misunderstood you
There are 2 capactive keys that function as "back" and "Settings", the home button function as fingerprint ID and pressing it goes to home and long press is the tasks screen, am I correct?
To which one of the OS I need to flash things, the CyanogenOS or the ZUI? because I heard the Cyanogen comes already with the capative keys.. please explain to me

In cyanogenos and cyanogenmod they have disabled the capacitive home button. It's only a home button now and it does read fingerprints.
They did that to conserve power because if the button is always on it creates wake locks. Only the Zui version has the capacitive button now.
B.t.w. the phone is really great for the money you pay for. It's fast, the battery life is good and Cyanogen out of the box. And it has a very fast working fingerprint reader. When you like nightly builds you will have updates available almost every day. And you have 64GB fast storage without the need for slow sd cards.

In the CyanogenOS and Cyanogenmod, there are 2 capactive keys from the side of the Home Button? How they function? As back and settings?
In CyanogenOS and Cyanogenmod the Home button function as finger print ?
What do you mean by "only the zui version has the capactive button now"?

The capacitive buttons on the left and right are usually setup to Back and Multitasking. But you can change them to anything you want to in cyanogen os and mod. Sorry that I misunderstood you. In the first versions of cyanogenos you had also swipe actions on the home button. I have these buttons always disabled as I do like the onscreen buttons more. The screen is big enough to use them.
Are you sure you can set them to anything?! If you have a Oneplus you can do it, but I tried on ZUK and there is no such option. The right key is back (which sucks)
Hmm, I think I made a mistake :/
I asked the seller multiple times if that's CyanogenOS 12.1 and he confirmed, So I made a payment through PayPal and I sent a a message with the following pictures, asked him how the phone home page looks.
He said it looks like picture number " 1 ", isn't that the ZUI OS? I'll try to cancel the order before he ships the item, but in case it's too late, is it possible to flash COS/CM? Do I need to flash custom recovery or I can flash COS/CM right away?

Htc should have stick with one x design with the capacitive buttons... or use onscreeen button..
They already have an htc logo at the back they dont need an htc logo in front.. fail.. fail..
htc should make the new nexus.... with onscreen button and this kind of hardware..
What to say on this?

Disagree strongly. If HTC had used onscreen buttons I would have 0 interest in purchasing. I cant stand the onscreen buttons on the N4 and the N4 will be my last with them.
personally speaking I prefer proper buttons rather than the on screen ones as I always feel they cheat you of screen space.
and I am sure this guy is a troll..
yeh this guy's a goon. I'm eagerly watching Paul O'Brien's website as he's just got a One and is updating his site with reviews as we speak!! He seems very impressed!

OK, go to xda - find a thread with adding onscreen buttons on one and disabling hardware and that is it. If u don't like.

Two things that Google pushed that are plain wrong:
- On-screen buttons (why would anyone want a black bar always taking up screen real estate)
- Getting rid of the menu button (we always use it, it's crucial)
WTH is wrong with having capacitive buttons? The only reason I can think of is if you have a bezel-less device, but no one has made one, so what's the point!
- end rant
I love the button layout

The black bar is a side affect of an app not supporting the ActionBar.
The onscreen buttons have the advantage of being icons, of being available at the top or bottom of the screen.
Look at Google Maps, there is a bar of context sensitive icons, with an overflow (the 3 vertical dots) that your menu button activates.
Agree

I completely agree with that. I have the One X, and after activating the "menu fix", i.e. long-press multi-task = menu, it is a lot more usable. With the multi-task button gone, it does not make much sense to upgrade to the HTC One. (long-press home = menu would be a bit weird, tbh.) There are a lot of apps still out there (and will be for the time being), that do not support the action bar.
I think they should either go with on-screen buttons only, or offer at least three capacitative ones. This in between thing makes no sense.
AW: Htc capacitive buttons fail?
Onscreen wastes a lot of space.

I've just read/watched the Engadget review.
I'm sold on the device. My concern is around the hardware keys. I much prefer hardware keys to software keys because the SW keys eat up so much of the on-screen real estate, and they also push the keyboard higher and make it harder to reach.
That being said, it seems by dropping the menu key, HTC has taken a step backwards after they mapped the legacy menu key to the HW menu key in recent versions of the One X / X+ build in Sense 4+. From what I've read, the legacy menu is back.
This is *bad* and has me thinking about another direction (although there doesn't seem to be a great device like the One - don't think the S4 will be anything interesting unless they've been setting up a smokescreen!).
I run an alternative launcher because I dislike Sense (other than the Camera!), but it won't solve the missing HW key / legacy menu.
Thoughts?
The two button layout doesn't bother me too much. I removed the soft keys on my Nexus 4 and use PIE so if I can function without any buttons, I'm sure I'll live with two. As for the legacy menu thing, that's an odd on HTC's part. Granted, apps should be updated to have proper menu button support, but it's something I can live with.
The removal of long press back remapping was/is probably a bug, I'm sure it will be back
idk about everyone else but i will root and flash my device just like every other phone ive had. with that we will be able to do almost what we want personalization wise. how long will we have to wait is the question.

Agreed. I heard about this early on but it's not being mentioned in reviews. If nothing else HTC will cave to peer pressure like in the HOX. Long press on back is a passable solution - particularly if we can also get the in-app menu button too.
Otherwise the other idea being thrown about (by non technical people) is if the kernel can be modded to recognise the HTC logo as a button - given that the touch panel should extend over that as well. No idea how possible this is and I presume it couldn't be done until kernel source is out.
M.
Only two buttons doesn't bother me either, i only have one on my iphone!
I'm actually cool with just 2 button too. I rarely use my menu button on my mt4g. I do everything with just the home button and back button. Also rather have capacitive buttons instead of hard buttons.

I also use the menu button quite a bit.
I am sure once we get used to it, it will be like anything else and heck, we might even like it more. Who knows till we get to play withem...

I guess. It's possible on TouchWiz, so I guess you can add a line in the build.prop in Sense too.

Are stock on screen buttons smart enough to activate the additional menu button when needed?
Also... can long press software home button activate google now?

So do I but a long press of the button to bring up the multi tasking menu is hardly a dealbreaker for me. Could prove to be annoying though. Time will tell I guess!
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium
^ I don't mind long-press for multi-tasking (it's what I am using today); the issue is that you can't have home, multi-tasking, Google Now and Legacy menu all on one key! I've been seeing some comments about long-press back used but the legacy menu really needs to be a single-press.
Dun recall where i read it, but the home key on double tap brings up multi tasker and on long press can b configured for google now or menu key. Thats acceptable to me.
I do prefer the 3 keys on my hox, but i realize that htc had to make a compromise to accomodate the logo. The logo could not have been placed elsewhere on the front without adding to the height of the phone.
In the end, its not a big issie and we will get used to it. Moving from 4 keys on dhd to 3 on the hox wasnt pleasing to me in the beginning, but adapted soon.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
i think its great, i never used the other two buttons anyway.
My menu position is at the top right now, where it used to be on the bottom. I liked it better at the bottom. I did switch phones, I came from an S III that had Paranoid Android 3.99RC2 on it, and now have a LG G2 with the most recent CM11 nightly on it. So, is the menu button a CM thing, or a Kit Kat thing? Or was the bottom menu a PA thing? I want to put it back at the bottom if there is a way to do that.
Also, another unrelated question, is there a way to make the home button also the 'most recent' button by holding it down?
For the second question, to deal with it for now, I just put the side menu button on at all times and put the recent activity button where I usually put the menu button, but I'd still like to have it back to the setup I am used to.

There is no front touch buttons in display. There is "buttons and layout" in interface, but I can't make it change to hold the home button to be a function.

You might want to double check the G2 Xposed thread. I'm 99% certain he's made it work with AOSP ROMs now.
Hello,
I am pretty new to this FirefoxOS but I think I know a lot about Android.
Today I found a official build of FirefoxOS for Huawei Y300-II or Y300-F1 I'm not sure. I flashed it on my Huawei Ascend Y300 (old one with android) and it worked flawlessly untill I found that only Home button works.
And I would like to make atleast my Back button work. I was alto thinking - when I extract System.img it has some files same as android and one of them is /usr/keylaout/generic.kl. I compared those two files and they seem to be pretty same.
So will FirefoxOS ever have support for 3 buttons phones? Is there already a 3button phone from where I could try to port support for it?
And also what files are used to control sound? Because it doesnt work either.
Thanks and sorry for my english.
FXOS does not use any other buttons than home. Apps should be written in a way that you dont need any, much like IOS.

As of the second or third P Beta my navbar buttons went back to the traditional Back/Home/Recent buttons and have stayed that way on the official build. I updated my father's and son's phones and they are only getting the back/home button combo. Is there a setting I'm missing to make them one way or the other? TIA

Do you guys know if the adb command that was used to customize the layout of the navbar button will still work?
space, back;home;recent, space, is this string still valid? I doubt because I now see on the far right a keyboard icon that was not there on Oreo.
