[Q] 3 Hardware Buttons Support - Firefox OS General

Hello,
I am pretty new to this FirefoxOS but I think I know a lot about Android.
Today I found a official build of FirefoxOS for Huawei Y300-II or Y300-F1 I'm not sure. I flashed it on my Huawei Ascend Y300 (old one with android) and it worked flawlessly untill I found that only Home button works.
And I would like to make atleast my Back button work. I was alto thinking - when I extract System.img it has some files same as android and one of them is /usr/keylaout/generic.kl. I compared those two files and they seem to be pretty same.
So will FirefoxOS ever have support for 3 buttons phones? Is there already a 3button phone from where I could try to port support for it?
And also what files are used to control sound? Because it doesnt work either.
Thanks and sorry for my english.

FXOS does not use any other buttons than home. Apps should be written in a way that you dont need any, much like IOS.

Correct me if I am wrong.
Isn't possible to "bind" this taskmanager (long home press) to maybe menu button?

Wake up Legend with trackball?

Hi, do you have some news about waking up the Legend with the trackball? It is a little bit annoying to wake it up with power button and afterwards unlock the phone sliding your finger down. I am still searching for this feature across the internet.
If you will have some news or find a solution, please post it.
Nobody?

That's what I'm looking for too. Or anything else. Tap the screen and then slide unlock, or get rid of the unlock slide at all and use just power button etc etc. This HTC lock/unlock solution is just the worst one.
Hello,
I'm interrested in that too !
It is annoying to use the power button...
Any news yet ?
Thanks
hi yeah use No lock app
It simply disables the lock screen. Press the unlock/menu button just once and the screen turns on immediately.
I wrote a config file to unlock with menu and home button..
Trackpad button is different from others buttons! Kernel doesn't assign a code to trackpad.. I'm taking a patch from desire's forum and i'm trying to apply it to legend kernel..
instead of power button plus swipe, you can do power button plus menu button
i'm interested in this
Yes it works!
Root is needed and a kernel compiled by myself needed too..
(i add those patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703539 )
No root necessary!
I just randomly came across this... Downloaded a free app called "No Lock" (BoD ) which obviously removes the lock from the screen, but it also enables any button including the track ball, volume keys, menu, search... (you get the point) to turn on the phone screen. Its up to you guys but since there is no hardware button for making calls I dont really see any problem with pocket dialing - just no lock Also, there are programs to solve that such as chompsms which lets you do pattern lock to use it...and there are others to cover all apps too. Hopefully this helps someone.
Sorry - Just saw a few posts down the same thing was posted. I guess I wont completely erase mine tho since I evplain it a bit more if there are noobs reading.
I dont have access to the market right now, can someone kind enough upload the APK for No Lock?
i really really need a way to wake up my legend with a key other than power as it is acting funny.
thanks a lot in advance...

Thank you guys! I really appreciate it
But unfortunately this doesnt work for me... I think on Froyo there is no way around this. as my power button doesnt always work im going to downgrade to 2.1 and then use a custom froyo rom with this ability or maybe just stick with 2.1 for the time being...
a little update on froyo!
it seems that when you are charging your phone and using a program to disable sense keylock you can wake up your device. so I think on froyo they have prevented other keys to have power and be active....

[HELP!] - Hardkeys not responding! Need remap help ):

Hi!
I was stupid enogh to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6594359#post6594359 since it read "Manilla 2.5", not noticing it was for Touch Pro2.. Now my Hardkeys have died and I have to restart my phone (battery in and out) each time the screen shuts down.
Anyone got a resolution to this? /: Been searching with no luck for some time now ):
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
I got a response from the authour of the app. that uses this and it reads:
"Goto to Start/Settings/System and you will find there the Keyboard Config.
- Open it and you should see ther the Home key created.
- Press and hold on the top of the "Home [10"] and a small menu should popup.
- Hit remove and than update config.
- You should also remove the dotcompt TP2 Start Menu Hardware key remap.cab.
- Soft reset"
I got no key-values in the list.. and I cannot add new keys (the app says I should press a key and release it to set it, but nothing happens, no reaction)
Is there something similar designed for the HD2?
Hi guy, wich key doesn't works?
You have uninstal the cab for remaping? You try AE Button?

None of the 4 hardkeys work.. AE-button? I cannot uninstall the cab, because it is not in the installed apps list (though it is in system settings.....)
Same problem
I'm having the same problem. None of my hard keys are working at all. Touch screen controls are fine. Tried going in through "System", then Keyboard Controller, but it says wrong drivers are installed :/
Bad mistake to use soft from TP2 topic

Oh, the volume buttons are also dead.
Well, I guess I'll have to wait a couple of weeks and just live with it until I'm ready for a hard-reset of my device.. a couple of days worth of work modding it back to what it was earlier today ><
Sorry guy :/

Thanks for the time and effort man, appreciated to see that some are comitted to helping!
That, I know all about, after a couple of years in cust. service for mobile d: contacts and messages are luckily saved through Windows MyPhone <3
I fixed this issue. Go into your REMOVE PROGRAMS screen and delete the application that has KEYBOARD Controller, or something similar to it. I noticed it on my list of applications and did not recall it being there before. I removed it, then performed a soft reset and all was back to normal afterwards.

[Q] How to get an app menu button on Android

I've installed CyanogenMod 7 on my HD2 but having trouble
to get an app menu key. I thought it would be the windows key
but it just exits the application to the main menu.
For example in contacts - I need to press the menu key to see the application
menu - without the menu button it is not much use.
I tried to remap the keys but the only key that I can use would be the back key.
But this would mean i loose the back key which is not desirable too.
I'm not sure if I miss anything but appreciate if anybody could point me into the right direction.
thanks
HJ
It is the Windows key.
Sent from my HTC HD2 überphone
does your Windows key work properly under WM? if so, and if in Android you get exit after pressing the windows (central) key, sth is wrong with your build, maybe consider either updating or switching to other,
as temporary solution enable Tablet Tweaks in Settings / CM settings (it should be there), it'll give you an option to have virtual home, menu and back keys on status bar
I had no problems under WM. I'm running the ThphooN_v3.3.8MAGLDR upgrading from the 3.3 version. I already had that problem in the 3.3 version.
That tablet tweak as mention is not available but would be a great workaround.
thanks
u can use button savior (from market) to replace the hardware keys ...it might be helpful
I've installed Button Savior - great it gives me the work around.
Not sure if I should install a different built seems to be a single device problem if nobody else reported this.
My HD2 is an O2 version.
thanks anyway I can survive

Did you ever work out how to get the menu/windows button working in the Thphoon build? I'm having the same issue, windows button working correctly in WM6.5 but not in Android 2.3.7

Thoughts about HTC One hardware keys

I've just read/watched the Engadget review.
I'm sold on the device. My concern is around the hardware keys. I much prefer hardware keys to software keys because the SW keys eat up so much of the on-screen real estate, and they also push the keyboard higher and make it harder to reach.
That being said, it seems by dropping the menu key, HTC has taken a step backwards after they mapped the legacy menu key to the HW menu key in recent versions of the One X / X+ build in Sense 4+. From what I've read, the legacy menu is back.
This is *bad* and has me thinking about another direction (although there doesn't seem to be a great device like the One - don't think the S4 will be anything interesting unless they've been setting up a smokescreen!).
I run an alternative launcher because I dislike Sense (other than the Camera!), but it won't solve the missing HW key / legacy menu.
Thoughts?
The two button layout doesn't bother me too much. I removed the soft keys on my Nexus 4 and use PIE so if I can function without any buttons, I'm sure I'll live with two. As for the legacy menu thing, that's an odd on HTC's part. Granted, apps should be updated to have proper menu button support, but it's something I can live with.
The removal of long press back remapping was/is probably a bug, I'm sure it will be back
idk about everyone else but i will root and flash my device just like every other phone ive had. with that we will be able to do almost what we want personalization wise. how long will we have to wait is the question.

Agreed. I heard about this early on but it's not being mentioned in reviews. If nothing else HTC will cave to peer pressure like in the HOX. Long press on back is a passable solution - particularly if we can also get the in-app menu button too.
Otherwise the other idea being thrown about (by non technical people) is if the kernel can be modded to recognise the HTC logo as a button - given that the touch panel should extend over that as well. No idea how possible this is and I presume it couldn't be done until kernel source is out.
M.
Only two buttons doesn't bother me either, i only have one on my iphone!
I'm actually cool with just 2 button too. I rarely use my menu button on my mt4g. I do everything with just the home button and back button. Also rather have capacitive buttons instead of hard buttons.

I use the multitasking and menu options quite a bit, thus my concern
I also use the menu button quite a bit.
I am sure once we get used to it, it will be like anything else and heck, we might even like it more. Who knows till we get to play withem...

I guess. It's possible on TouchWiz, so I guess you can add a line in the build.prop in Sense too.

My main goal would be to deactivate the hardware buttons and go completely nexus wise.

Are stock on screen buttons smart enough to activate the additional menu button when needed?
Also... can long press software home button activate google now?

So do I but a long press of the button to bring up the multi tasking menu is hardly a dealbreaker for me. Could prove to be annoying though. Time will tell I guess!
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium
^ I don't mind long-press for multi-tasking (it's what I am using today); the issue is that you can't have home, multi-tasking, Google Now and Legacy menu all on one key! I've been seeing some comments about long-press back used but the legacy menu really needs to be a single-press.
Dun recall where i read it, but the home key on double tap brings up multi tasker and on long press can b configured for google now or menu key. Thats acceptable to me.
I do prefer the 3 keys on my hox, but i realize that htc had to make a compromise to accomodate the logo. The logo could not have been placed elsewhere on the front without adding to the height of the phone.
In the end, its not a big issie and we will get used to it. Moving from 4 keys on dhd to 3 on the hox wasnt pleasing to me in the beginning, but adapted soon.

i think its great, i never used the other two buttons anyway.

Multitasking idea

Hi,
I was going to post this in one of the kernel threads but thought maybe it'd be interesting to more people. We've seen a few mods changing the navigation key behaviour (s2l l2h and what not). I previously suggested implementing the nexus layout into the htc using the logo as I'm a fan of having a recent apps key and I think others will like it too. However I think a better solution would be to re program the home key (or maybe the back key since home key uses google now) so that when you swipe up it opens the recent apps. I know it'd only save half a second but would make this more fluid than having to double tap. I'm not a developer but I'm just giving my idea. I thought it might be easy to do as well since it's already done with the home key swiping up to google now, so the same code can just be copied to the back key?
(
So, what do you guys think? If its easily doable I think this will be popular and could be a standard feature in most roms (or kernels?) , like the 3-dot menu removal and such.
(Also, was having a hard time answering the 'is this a question', its more of a suggestion but I could be wrong so sorry
I use the logo for recent apps on my GPe One.

You can configure the buttons in ViperOne. I have long press home set to open recent apps. I also use LMT launcher as a menu button, and it also has a button to jump to my last used app. Its awesome for multitasking.

It's definitely not a perfect solution, and I'm still REALLY MAD at HTC for ruining what would have been the perfect android device, but it's better than nothing.
I flash a kernel tha offers logo2menu and go into system\usr\keylayout and change the bindings and reboot. Obviously requires root.

May i know which file under /system/usr/keylayout did u edit? Is it synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl?
This is the content for the file
Code:
key 102 HOME
key 158 BACK
key 139 MENU VIRTUAL
I would like to change the HTC logo to multitasking, but im not sure what to change key 139 to.
Any insight on this would be helpful.
Update: figured it out!
for anyone interested in doing this, here's how you do it.
Just modify key 139 to this
Code:
key 139 APP_SWITCH WAKE_DROPPED
Hi
Is it possible to change the home swipe up config or the long press home? I have rooted and custom kernel but any way to do so by file editing?
Thanks
