Nexus 6p any lagg or stutter experiencing? After a few months - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I was wondering if you guys experiencing any king of lagg or stutter after a few months?

Yes. Classic Android. I don't think there is a perfect device. Never owned an iphone but I'm curious if they do the same. After 1 month I noticed it started to delay when switching apps or bringing up the keyboard or transferring data to other apps (send pictures, links, etc to different apps). Granted it's not enough to drive you crazy like previous samsung phones I've had but it's enough to notice compared to a freshly flashed phone.

I had similar issues especially on Chrome, very choppy scrolling. It turned out I switched on the accessibility services which caused this erratic. behaviour. I switched them off and phone returned to normal.

Been running PN rom and EX kernel for a month now, I would say that there is a very slight performance downgrade over the month... It may be nothing at all, but if there is any sort of performance decrease, it is not enough for the average user to notice. Apps load up fast, the keyboard opens fast, everything is fast. As to be expected with stock Android. It shouldn't slow down like custom overlays do

[Q] Does your Nexus S seem slower after ICS?

Not any one thing in particular, but just overall it "feels" unresponsive? I have the OTA update before it was suspended.
Am I the only one noticing this?
Also has anyone been able to actually use the new Calculator? That thing doesn't register button presses to any form of practicality for me.
I'm just wondering if there are steps to fix this, or if this is how ICS is on the Nexus S. I'd rather go back to GB if that was the case.
I haven't noticed any unresponsiveness issues, to be honest. Although I had the phone just for a short while before the ICS update came out. So I didn't have much time to get accustomed to GB in order to be able to compare them accurately.
I had some random crashes, but last night I did a factory reset and it solved those issues for me. I'm using the calculator on a regular basis, no issues there.
the same to me, seems to move slower after OTA update
Because gb was made just for this phone. Every other phone just runs it, wasn't tailored for them.
Now ics was made just for the gnex. Same as all nexus phones.
Gb was made for the hummingbird. Etc etc...
Simple as that.

Wrong section btw. Mod should move it.

Same here....maybe because of all the new animations?
Its much faster for me
Nothing slow over here my phone is faster then ever
From the browser to everything in general....
Everything is working up to par on my end.
It is fast, but GB was faster overall. Not sure even "faster" is the better word. Perhaps "snappier" is more appropriate.
You can notice it in the small things... Opening an app, scrolling in some menus, etc.
Nop, It's running super fast here.
Browser experience is best ever!! Changing tabs is fast and very cool with the zooming animations
I say overall, it's feeling even faster than gingerbread.
Even with the battery issues, I'm not downgrading.
No problem here. Pretty smooth and snappy. Of course I flashed a custom kernel, OC and all the mod goodies. All help my phone snappier. I also recommend spare a buck and buy Autostarts app from the Market, if your phone is rooted.

Runs very smooth here. Stock ICS 4.0.3 on i9023 ;-)
The experience overall is very smooth. The browser has a few quirks here and there with some websites, but overall its much better than the GB browser. The only place where I feel the phone struggles is opening the app drawer. It's like waiting for one of the older automatic cars to gear shift when u put the pedal to the metal.
My only problem is the frame-rate in ICS. Just swiping over home screens seems limited to 30 fps (definitely below 60).
Nope my phone is not slower at all.. ICS is very snappy!!
no troubles at all.
flashed the 4.0.3 stock plus the Glados v2.3 kernel (deep idle is a beast, rly...) and my NS is faster than ever. I'd never return to gb.
battery power ends in about a day if I use the phone intensively (internet, wifi, 3g, some games, music and so on...) but in a daily use (some sms, facebook news, email reading, etc) I'm experiencing no "battery drain problems" at all. charged 2 nights ago, still at 68% right now... (probably because the kernel, tho...)
edit: i forgot to mention that I'm running 110% live OC w/stock voltages and get no reboots or similar hellish-noobish things
Mine seems quicker and more responsive than ever I'm happy to say.
No lags or any problems with ICS stock rom. Also some of the best battery life for a long time.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Absolutely no,
I formerly used CM7.1 and then installed ICS in the cleanest possible way (wiped everything, went to 2.3.3, updated to latest Gingerbread, wiped everything installed ICS from the zip file)
It works alot better, it feels much smoother, web browser was improved alot.
I can use the calculator properly and it works better than in GB, maybe its a random matter that some people face.
In my case , ICS >> GB. feels as if I got a new phone.
I love ICS on the Nexus S, no sluggishness at all. Custom roms seem to be very buggy and slow. I'm running it strait stock with no problems at all.

[Q] Is anyone facing scrolling lag in setting page?

Recently i tried out a brand new S5, and i found out it scrolls so smooth, especially, but my phone scrolls a bit laggy in the scrolling page, is it normal?
It wouldn't be normal on my phone. Mine has markedly less lag now than when it was new.
The difference probably being that you have more apps installed or that I removed most of the stock bloatware, which you may still have. If you have too many apps running in the background, your phone will develop lag.
.
im keep having 600 mb free in my system
If you believe that is the only factor that counts, you are mistaken. An OS is much more complex than one metric.
.

Frustrating Lag Issues

So, I brought this phone two months ago, and have been using it since. However, I find it not very fun to use as there's always frustrating amounts of lag. (Especially in the UI)
On stock 6.0, the UI is a tad bit laggy, but bearable. However, games stutter. On the other hand, running stock 7.0, the UI is horrendously laggy, while games run fine.
I've tried every custom ROM that I could, but this device still seems to be very laggy when it comes to using it, almost to the point of being completely unusable. I do not leave apps open, and clear the cache often, so I don't know what the issue is. It's too late to return it now, too.
Anything I could do to make my phone usable?
This is disappointing, as even my old Moto E ran faster than this phone.

What defines lag in your book? Sure, there are a couple micro stutters when pulling the notification shade or switching apps, but lag is generally nonexistent. If you've come from a Pixel, S7, 6P, OP3, etc., then yeah, there's definitely a massive difference.
Also, it's definitely possible that your touchscreen may have issues as well.
Finally, I recommend the following ROMs (I've tried nearly all the ROMs here on XDA) for smoothness/battery:
- Beanstalk 7.1.2
- AOSP-CAF (discontinued but still very good)
- JX's Creampie (stock with mods)

The lag is mostly long UI stutters, but sometimes it gets really bad, especially on Lineage OS based roms. I have a feeling it's something related to single handed mode, though. I might try beanstalk soon.

I've recently installed Lineage on my brand new G4, and I honestly think the phone was better off on stock 7.0, as opposed to the custom rom. I'll agree i think the phone i just a bit stuttery/laggy at times.
I managed to make stock a lot faster by removing Greenify. Battery life seems to be better as well.
The problem does still stick around in Lineage-based roms, and I feel like One-handed mode causes this, since you can't turn it off.
EDIT: I prefer having root and all that.

Just found your post after searching for stutter in connection with one-handed mode. I only recently bought the G4 Plus as a temporary replacement for my broken Pixel and was a bit frustrated. I felt the G4 was quite stuttery, even tried a standard G5 in a store yesterday and thought "wow, that is a lot smoother.. well it just seems the G4 is a bit more stuttery. Today i compared it to my sisters G4 Plus, which was a lot smoother. You could really see the difference in scrolling and i thought it must be the digitizer or something. So before repackaging to return it to Amazon i tried a factory reset, voila, stutter gone. I tried activating one-haded mode again -> stutter. Deactivate one-handed mode -> stutter gone. So i guess that's the cause.

Framedrops and stutter everywhere - How do I fix this?

So, got my phone since monday now and I cant help but to find little framedrops and stutters all over the place, all the time... well, what would you guys do to fix this? Any settings to be changed or perhaps a custom kernel? My Nexus 5 runs way smoother, my iPhone 6, just something I wouldnt expect from an SD835 phone.. therefore, where is the issue and how should I approach this?
(Not talking about the annoying Jello.. thats an whole other problem )

"Wtf" you are surprised the s8 stutters? ???? come on, it's Samsung we should know this by now
@OP. Are you seeing this through something like gpu rendering?
I would recommend clearing your caches, dalvik and cache. That was causing textra to constantly crash for me on this phone and my z play. If that doesn't work, try a factory reset, if not, get a replacement as you likely have a bad unit. I've had no lags or stutters even while in power saving mode..

I came from a Nexus 5 to the OP5 and the OP5 is blazing fast compared to my previous phone. In all likelihood this problem is caused by an app which you have loaded. Don't compound the confusion by rushing to a different ROM or kernel. OOS is almost pure AOSP so you'll not likely get an improvement. Most of the custom kernels make changes to squeeze out battery life not speed things up which sucks battery life.
As you just got the phone you could do a factory reset including user data then test the pure experience to make sure the "stutters" aren't there then slowly add your apps and re-test until you identify the app(s) that are impacting this liquid smooth device.
If you don't believe me then check the OP5 YouTube reviews which always mention how fast the OP5 is with OOS and the 835 processor.

I'm not saying it isn't fast but the jelly effect and micro stutters make the scrolling a pain. Also it happens everywhere not just in browsers and such.

It has been commented many times that the jelly effect is only seen by some people and not others. Luckily for me I've not one of those unfortunates. As for micro stutters I've no idea what your talking about as I've not seen that either.
I did use my Nexus 5 to get an old app off it and that is where I was really shocked at how slow the N5 was compared to my OP5. Like so much of tech a good amount of what a person feels about a device is personal perception. You seem to be sensitive to things other are not as overall the reviewers and most of the owners talk glowingly about the lack of issues as you describe especially compared to the big flag ships such as the Galaxy S8, 8+ and Note 8 that costs significantly more. I've seen YouTube videos of side by side speed and battery tests with these top brands and the OP5 smokes them.
I can definitely see the micro stutters and frame drops here and there as well on the stock 4.5.14 ROM and kernel. I'm not saying its not fast (it is) but its not 60fps all the time like how a Pixel is. For context I was using a Pixel and S8+ before this.
As of right now, I'm using the OP5 with the RenderZenith kernel (an EAS kernel). As far as I can tell its now behaving similarly to my previous Pixel with noticeably fewer frame drops.

you are the first what I see that he wrote such a negative experience for the Oneplus 5. According to me, this is the racket even the stock visual style. If you find a suitable combination of ROM, kernel, then the OP5 is "Stalin organ"

fps lag

I'm experiencing famerate lag. Changing orientation, opening apps and transitions through the ui.
Anyone else is experiencing this? And if so you know what's causing it?

Yep, its a serious problem with the OnePlus 5.
Animations, scrolling, everything is a mess on Oxygen OS, to the point where I have unlocked my bootloader to try non-OOS based ROMs.
This thing stutters more than my old S7 Edge, and the Note 8 is significantly smoother than this.
Awesome example of how poor OOS is currently:
Go into Pocket Casts, subscribe to a podcast, open your subscriptions, tap on a tile. The simple animation will stutter like crazy as it opens. Same with play store.
Scrolling is atrocious for such a high specced device. 8GB/SD835 means nothing if smoothness is the worst by far out of any android flagship.
I couldn't even get an answer out of OnePlus support if Oreo would fix things.
Yup, the overall is experience is kinda jittery and laggy, my iPhone 6 and even my Nexus 5 are way smoother.
I've found OOS to be a lot smoother with Blu Spark kernel but even then OOS is so unstable that several times out of nowhere some system wake lock would suddenly go wiggy and prevent the phone from going into Doze. It's happened on three different builds of OOS and it was a different wake lock each time and caused massive idle battery drain. I haven't found any way to fix it other than doing a clean flash of OOS and fresh install of my apps. OOS isn't stable enough to be the stock operating system on any Android phone, let alone a $600 one that advertises itself as a flagship killer.
Don't know what you talking about, I never see a single lag/stutter in my OP5 and actually like OOS even coming from Stock Android (Nexus 6P)

Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with this phone. I also flashed to LineageOS to see how it would perform compared to OxygenOS, but have you noticed what I noticed? It's still Jitters bits. I have eventually got it smooth with tweaking the kernel settings around until it would scroll smooth. What has me confused is that it happened when I switched rom still, and even after trying a different kernel it still would stutters while scrolling.. so it has me really confused as to what the problem is.
My kernel setup is butter smooth in LineageOS, but only help OxygenOS a bit as it still slightly stutters. It's smooth in chrome, but certain apps like Instagram still stutters on OOS

yeah noticed this also on stock OOS. IDK whether this is just placeboo effect or not, but it feels much smoother now on my current set-up (xXx ROM + ElementalX Kernel)
Running stock oos with simple gx wouldn't be happier I actually came back from the non oos roms because I missed the smoothness and app opening animations from stock oos .... could you give me an example of UI jitters or where it occurs because I haven't run into any problems . Speaking of chrome smoothness scrolling could be better but I am fine in instagram Reddit (boost app) and wouldn't complain as per opening of play store is also smooth with opener game of apps from play store is fine as well .
