I was trying out a few roms, and when I went to rstore, I got error messages on startup. Mtf storage is not sonething, system gui something something... worst part is my notification bar, clock, and pull down is absent. Any ideas?
Band Rood was supposed to be nandroid... autocorrect...
Actually, I fixed it. I just kept reinstalling my nAndroid until it booted up right!

My most recent cyanogen mod kept freezing and rebooting, so I restored my most recent Nandroid backup. But it keeps displaying the ............ . It's been doing that for the past 10 or 15 minutes. A lot longer then all the other times I restored a backup. Should I stop it and try it again?
Edit***
Anyways, I got impatient and yanked the battery out. Put the battery back in and powered her up. It works... i think. i got all my apps and everything, and the version 4.2.5 of cyanogen is running. one of the processes crashed and it was just a black screen, but i could still display the notification dropdown menu. I rebooted, and then it asked me to enter in all my google information again. opening up cm updater crashes, and it appears that many other apps crash upon load. I think I can pull outta here by just doing a wipe.
Thanks
did you wipe it before you did your nandroid restore?
HI,
I have installed and used some modified TouchWiz roms and then MIUI for a week or so in my i9505, but it lacks a bunch of features I liked on the Samsung rom, so I decided to go back to it.
For my surprise, the NANDROID backup I made and saved to my computer was somehow corrupt, and the MD5 sums check failed when I tried restoring it.
So I downloaded the original ROM for my S4 (the brazilian one, same as before) and installed via Odin, wiping user data and cache before.
It worked fine and I got my Samsung ROM back, but some features aren't working anymore:
The hover touch function won't work anywhere.
And now, when I receive an SMS, it doens't preview the message on the status bar or in the notifications . It justs says:
Message
New message
Anyone know what happened?
Seems like there was some holdover from tha other roms...

There's an option in SMS > Settings > Preview message on lockscreen and status bar.
When you say hover, do you mean Air View? Did you try it in the gallery or flipboard? Only a few apps support it.

Hey guys, new owner of the Verizon Note 3.
Love the phone and everything is fast and great.
I'm on 4.3 MJE and rooted. Safestrap installed with no slots, just the stock. Wanted to be able to make backups and have the recovery option.
Just this morning my Note 3 stopped letting open the settings from any angle. From notification panel or anywhere else.
It immediately closes and shows the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped"
I tried rebooting to safestrap and wiping cache and dalvik cache.
no fix.
I have some system apps frozen with Titanium backup, but have defrosted the ones I very recently froze to see if that helped. And still not able to get into settings.
Any advice? I'm sure you all appreciate how much of a pain in the butt it is to factory reset or flash and start over! I hate reconfiguring my apps and settings! So if that can be avoided in any way I'd be soooo happy!
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you need to reboot after unfreezing; you didn't mention if you did that.
The best way to avoid this kind of situation is to make Nandroid backups before you start tw3aking. Sure they are huge, but look at your situation now. You can always delete them after some time after it is clear they are not needed, but you can't create them out of thin air when it is too late.
So, before you make things even worse with further experimentation, make a Nandroid right now of your semi-broken setup. If you break things even further trying to fix this current problem, at least you can go back to where you are right now. You might want to make an TiBu market app/data backup as well and get the TiBu backups onto external media in case you need to go all the way back to Odin.
Dump your logcat after the "Settings" crash. There will be further clues there (possibly undecipherable, but hey.) Post that up to pastebin.com for others to look at if you don't grok it. (but scrub any personal data in there first). If you don't already have USB debugging turned on, you can use a terminal emulator or a Logcat capture app.
# logcat -c (to clear the log)
( force the settings crash)
# logcat -v threadtime > /sdcard/my_logcat_after_settings_crash.txt
There is a chance that it is something simple, e.g. one of the sqlite databases in /data/data/com.android.settings is corrupted, but the various Activities that are launched from underneath "Settings" touch stuff all over the /data partition (e.g. /data/misc and elsewhere). From where you are right now, there is no way to know whether your problem is due to:
(1) a problem in /system
(2) a problem in /data
(1+2) both
your turn.
Restored nandroid backup
Thanks for all the tips!
With some reluctance I managed to move to a much older backup i forgot I made and the settings works fine again!
those backups are a life saver.
Thanks again.
tw3ak.
Glad you got it fixed.
I had something similar happen last night - I accidentally fat-fingered a language change, and every time I went back in to fix it (Settings -> Language & Input), Settings would crash. (This is on MJ7)
Took a while to manually figure out how to fix it (Doh, /data/property/persist.sys.language) without restoring a backup. I didn't mention it here right away because your symptoms sounded different - Settings was crashing for me only when I went in to the Language & Input sub-menu)
Try using SS 3.65 and not the newest version and see if that fixes the problem.

HI Everyone, I am having this issue with my Note 3.
About six months ago I flashed the Lollipop software.
I backed up my S note files and could not recover them till I worked out this week they were in a zip file on my Google Drive.
Today I tried to get them back by downloading the Titanium file and restoring once I got Titanium working again.
I had to change my SuperSU too allow grant always and block Knox to allow Titanium to have root access.
Anyway, I tried restoring the file and it sat for about half an hour just saying it was restoring.
Then the phone shut off and restarted again.
Now I am constantly getting the Sorry S Note has crashed notification at 1 second intervals. I can see the phone is loading software in the background, but I cannot turn the notification off long enough to press anything else. It wont stop looping.
I have tried booting into recovery and wiping the cache and partition and factory reset. When the phone rebooted, it showed me the first setup page you see when you first start your phone for the first time, so I know the factory reset worked, but immediately the error started popping up again.
I tried booting into safe mode, and it still flashed up.
When you press ok, the notification immediately comes back again, so you have no time to do anything else.
You cannot go into settings, or press any other buttons, another notification shows up right away.
I am currently downloading a new firmware because I think this will be the only solution, has anyone else had this issue, if so how did you fix it, or will the new firmware be the only way?
Can you add screenshots pls?
*COUNCIL: S-Note use 2 folders that have to be in your internal memory: S Note Export (empty) and SnoteData (where you put your .spd files).
I currently have 2 backups in TWRP, the first from a couple weeks ago of a CM14.1 installation, and the 2nd I just made today prior to updating my current AICP nightly build.
A while ago I restored the CM backup and remembered I hadn't backed up my texts from that period, so I download SMS Backup & Restore and go into Messaging just to check that the correct messages were there. Sure enough they were, and at a glance I could tell the contents of the first few conversations were definitely from a couple weeks ago when I had them, but I could only see for a split second because immediately upon opening the messaging app, all conversations flew up the screen and disappeared over the span of about a second as if they were being deleted spontaneously before displaying the "Once you start a new conversation, you'll see it listed here" empty inbox background.
I didn't know why but I didn't care at the time so I left it for another day. Well that day is today, as right after I made my backup before updating the AICP nightly I saw the old one and thought hey I'll try grabbing those old texts again. Same thing happened so I restored back to today's backup and rebooted, went into messaging, and the same exact thing happened, albeit I was able to see that the conversations were indeed from recently, up to earlier today, before they all disappeared.
WTF? I installed a couple other 3rd party messaging apps just to see if the SMS content was still in the database and the stock app was just messing up, but they showed empty inboxes as well. Weird thing is if I restore from the nandroid backup again, I'll reboot and sure as sh*t, there the messages are once again, for a sweet split second before whoosh, they're gone! Does anyone know why it does that? Is this a nougat thing or has anyone experienced this on earlier android versions as well? I don't care about the backup, I just want to archive my old messages, but they nuke themselves as soon as I boot into a restore.
Oh if it helps, it seems upon restoring, the adopted SD card storage is wiped as well, so apps that were previously on the SD card show a dead white link on my home screen. The portable storage section of the card is just fine though (I did the fastboot trick where you split the adopted storage 50/50 between internal and portable storage)
I've noticed the same thing. It is not just you. SMS database doesn't survive TWRP restores on N roms.
I've got another phone that would give endless "Phone has stopped" FC messages upon a TWRP restore when it was first brought up to 7.1. It needed a fix in the roms to get TWRP backups to work right with it. Just a wild guess, but could be something similar at work here.
