The title says it all.
Contacts are on the phone and in Google.
The dialer app does not match incoming number to name in contacts.
I have this same behavior in every other app that would match a name to number.
This includes text messaging apps.
Anyone else see this??

Nope.
Have tried removing Google Account.
Wiped dialer settings, cleared cache and dalvik cache.
Nothing.
Actually some were showing up before the proposed fixes.
After trying the fixes suggested elsewhere not one contact that I have dialed or texted syncs up to display.
Here is the funny part. If I go look at the contact app and look at the history for a particular contact it's correct.
If I click on the number it takes me to the call log, but no name only the number is shows.
I have seen others with the problem but no solutions.
Solved.
Clearing "Contacts Storage" fixed the issue.

I use Google Voice for everything. I was able to swap out my default voicemail to utilize GV, but I can't seem to do it for the default text/messaging application.
When I left swipe or click on a contact and click message I want it to pull up the GV text vs the native text application.
Right now if I ever want to text, I have to open up the GV app first.
Thanks.
Have you tried clearing defaults? I have GV as my main SMS source and it works great. It asked me which to pick when I first installed it and of course you won't get that message again if you've picked a default after installing GV

Uninstalled and reinstalled and I did get this option upon first use. I must have accidentally selected messaging the first time around. Thanks! This is exactly what I was hoping for!
if it happens with another app just know that you can go to settings >applications then go to the current default app (for whatever it might be), and select clear defaults

I figured that one out too late. Definitely helpful for next time

When you go into your contacts and look under history do you see your GV text messages in there?
The only ones I see in there are the native text app and not the GV texts.
Something is up with my contacts. If I search for some people I'll get the result and see their number under their name. When I tap the name the contact opens but no phone number is listed, just all the other contact items.
For the contacts this happens to I can only call them from the diaper contacts list with the green phone icon. Even then it's random as to what number it calls if they have more than one.
Anyone else seen this behavior and/or know of a fix?
Apparently, you're not the only one with the problem. I guess it's the new blur thing. For example, my girlfriend's info, I can see everything but her phone #'s under "Contacts", without the green call icon. As far as it being random to what # it calls... I haven't had that problem... I do understand your frustration with it though but nothing's major with your phone, it's just a stupid perk moto made.
Thanks for the feedback. At least I'm not going to do a factory reset now to try and fix it. I'll just hold tight for an update and or a cool rom.
I've noticed that it happens on contacts that have facebook accounts attached. Deleting your facebook account from "my accounts" might fix it, I haven't tried. If you go to the contacts list under the phone program it will allow you to access the numbers.
Hello everyone,
I upgraded to "Android Revolution HD 4.0" (the Gingerbread version) a few days ago and am currently running LauncherPro.
My problem:
When I open the "Phone" app it normally shows the contact list on top and as you type in the numbers the contacts get filtered.
But now the list is empty and my contacts only appear after typing in a random number an erasing it again.
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here, but I just couldn't find a setting or something to fix that.
Cheers
That is because Call History is broken in those new ROMs. Try to enter Call History from apps list, I bet you'll get a FC. I did that when I was using AR HD4.
Let me know how it turns out for you
The Call History seems to work flawless.

Edit: After entering a number and erasing it again, it works fine:

When I upgraded from stock to CM7 I had a similar issue. My contact list was limited to those in my Gmail Contacts (i.e. email only - no phone numbers).
When in Contacts - I pressed the Menu button, selected Import/Export and imported the contacts on the SIM card into my contact list. No problems since.
Last weekend I modified/merged my contacts in Gmail - which syncs automatically. I won't store them on the SIM card anymore.

Actually I've had the same problem, same as screenshots, but in my case it was the Call History. Indeed, it was a known bug on that version of the ROM I've was using.
I was just able to fix it by changing the shortcut of the phone icon in the dock (launcherpro) to the phone from the app list and suddenly it works
Thanks for your replies!
Just got my phone on may 9th and recently been experiencing a caller id problem. The number of the person calling will just show not their name, and after i answer then the screen shows their name and picture. I have all these contacts in my google phonebook, i tried merging the contacts with google and deleting the contact data and it worked for 3min and stopped. Any suggestions?

This was also an issue with the S3 and only two particular modems had it working. I'd assume the same applies here. You'll need to do some research on what modems exist for your carrier and try them all.
no issues here with my Rogers S4 on Rogers

Sounds like you're using a custom rom.... That's the only case when the Caller id is not working... As already said, you may need to change your modem/kernel for a Canadian one
The thing is I am running stock touch wiz... Nothing special not even rooted.. I am going to call rogers today and see what they say..

Hello,
I've been trying to solve an issue with my Phone / Dialer app. I basically cannot call or receive calls from numbers which are not saved in my contacts. It is strange and driving me crazy. I can call my contacts normally, but the phone app crashes everytime I try to call or receive a call. The app does not open at all and there is no way for me to answer the calls. So far I have done the following:
- Cleared cache of all apps
- Hard reset the phone (after which I was able to call/receive, but only temporarily). When i restored all my apps/settings, the issue returned
- I tried the phone in safe mode and the problem persisted
- Also tried Network Reset
I really don't know what to do. I know it has to do with the Dialer/Contacts and perhaps caller ID. I used to have truecaller on my phone prior to reset, but not anymore. Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks

I can't find that option in the settings of my phone. Doesn't exist in Nougat I think
It exists but maybe not for your country. Did you try clearing the data of the Phone app?

Yes I did. I also reset the phone completely. Something tells me it is related to either dual SIM or an issue with contacts/accounts. I've had this phone for almost a year so it is strange for it to happen now. Thanks for your help
Ever find a solution to this? (My wife's phone is doing the same thing, for saved and unsaved contacts).
