the newest pure nexus update removed the DPI setting because changing it breaks android pay. I don't care for android pay but people like useless things, just my opinion but that's the way everything moving haha.
anyway now I change the DPI directly in the build.prop. I tried going lower than 480 but it does not change. even setting to something like 300 doesn't make a difference.
the steps are simple to it as far as can tell:
open build.prop
select LCD density
set to desire DPI
save
restart phone
and walhalla! (at least it should be) except its not changing.
so if someone could help me out with this because I'm not getting what im missing.
thanks in advance! :sly:

bumpity boomp bump. anyone got any ideas for me? I like me smaller icon. easier to handle [emoji83]. my whole idea on it is with a bigger screen I'd like everything to be smaller. not bigger that theres no point to having the bigger screen.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Texdroider from play and you need gel settings from xposed for icon imo. I just use nova to get smaller icons..
I can try that but im curious to what's changed, that LCD density changed everything before and now I'm not getting the same results? or was there more incorporated into the setting that I'm not aware of?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I had to modify my build.prop, save into a different folder, boot into TWRP, copy the new version of build.prop to /system and then chmod to 644 for the changes to stick at reboot.
update
I ended up flashing cm13 and it does everything I had before. I like cm a lot more because of the customability. I just couldn't stand a bigger screen with bigger everything. eliminates even having a larger screen for me.

I've been looking for those settings all over the place. No matter how much I fiddled around with it, I couldn't get that "tile" look.
Mind sharing the settings please?
I think that was the old Youtube version. You can download-then-sideload it from here:
http://www.androiddrawer.com/7215/download-youtube-4-1-47-app-apk/#.UScS71dc5tM
(just un-install your current version).
From version 4.2.16, youtube changed to the current look. So just try the 4.1.47 version.

My cousin just bought the Nexus10. Its youtube app look just like the screenshot. Too bad he doesn't want to root so I don't think I can pull the apk out.
But I will check the version# to see what the difference. Anyway the old v4.1.47 will give the same look and should work just as good (I'm running it on my TF101).

Hi all, I've been rooting/flashing/customizing my EpicTouch4G for a while, just upgraded to the S4, got it rooted with no issues.. Everything is working perfect so far, getting some apps installed and its running great. I didn't realize the S4 comes at 1.83gHZ..
So, my question is this, I like using low DPI settings, and on my ET4G, stock TW was 240DPI, on the S4, stock TW is 480DPI. Does anyone know the lowest DPI the S4 can run with stock TW? On the ET4G, I'm sure 160DPI was the lowest setting stock TW would run.
Thanks for the help

You can use ROM Toolbox to edit the build.prop
Keep in mind that in TW, the dialer will be off-centered.

Thanks for the post. Is 361 as low as it goes without getting fc's to start? On my E4GT, I went from 240 to 160 (TW of course, I really like 100 or even 85 on AoSP based builds)
The reason why I am trying to find this info out before I test is because on TW, I have set it too low and soft bricked, I wasent able to fix cause of a boot loop.. so I am trying to avoid that happening on my S4

Well, I don't run TW at all... I only changed the DPI on TW because I had the phone before Loki was released, so I don't know the minimum... I've gone as low as 320, which I found too small... 240, 160, 100, 85, even if it did work, would be so tiny it would be unreadable... DPIs that low are fold old school phones like S1 and Nexus S... Old, crappy screens... I found 320 too small, but it worked...

Ok guys, Got ya for ya.
I changed my dpi to 320, and bascially everything is working fine. The only problem is the camera is only using the top left of the screen. Its not taking up the whole screen. Annoying.
To try and fix it, I installed xposed framework and the module app settings, set it so the camera app uses the default 440 dpi. No change. Restarted. Same. Messed with the app some more, and come to the conclusion either i'm using it wrong or it doesnt work for our phones...
So my question to you, how are you overcoming this? Just living with it? The focal points are all messed up as well which is driving me nutso. Any suggestions?
Thanksss
is the default 440? i thought i remember someone saying in another thread they used xposed to set the camera back to 480 and that fixed it?

Each zip will only do one size, but it's more for automation purposes. I made it for myself since I use omni and like a different DPI than stock, I just include it in the flash after folder so it autoflashes the DPI change and I don't have to do anything else.
I decided to upload and make specific size based ones for users that would like something different to make their flashing desires less painful.
This is awesome of you to do but wouldn't it be easier to just edit the build.prop directly inside the zip before flashing?
Kudos for using a script though instead of using a generic build.prop.

xposed does not always run the smoothest on devices and if you are using ART it wouldn't work.
Just because one person figures out how to do something one way does not mean others will want to do it that way, all users have different purposes for doing the things they do and are more comfortable with doing things different ways.

This is still useful for OP's scenario though. Put it into the flashafterupdate folder and it'll be automatically flashed when he flashes an omnirom OTA update. Just because one way of doing something exists doesn't mean it's the best way to do something.
Slightly different to how I do it with my Slim zip...
#!/sbin/sh
sed -i 's/density=370/density=440/g' /system/build.prop;
The zips are good because you just add it to your flash routine when you flash a new rom.

In really surprised at how done xda members conduct themselves...
The OP made a contribution, I see no room for negativity. Your solution does not account for ART issues, and it also insists that it is better to install a total framework modification system to do what a simple zip can easily accomplish.

Very true, I am on VZW so no custom ROM for me as of yet. I just got the S5 for a good deal. I am coming from a Moto X DE and LG G2. I miss both but I also like a few things with the S5. But the 480 DPI on this phone makes me feel like I'm running 640x480 on a 21" LCD.. Very sad that they cant allow different resolutions for large screen devices at the least.

Anyone found a quick fix to this issue at hand (misalignment on lockscreen)?
If so, which App Settings app would be used to control the lockscreen DPI? I'm pretty sure lockscreen was part of SystemUI but won't that change my system DPI as well?

Not sure if everyone already figured this out but setting the systemui to 480 in app settings does fix the lockscreen issue. You just have to make sure that you reboot the phone. Unfortunately systemui controls a lot of the things that I want to have the lower DPI such as status bar. I then had to set 480 for the camera and the incallui to fix them.

There is no fix for the lock screen. Samsung compiles all the firmwares with only one dpi in mind. To fix it someone would have to decompile keyguard.apk and increase all the values to the specific dpi. Pretty big project.
I wish the status bar and quicksettings were separate from the systemui then we could probably take care of them with the app settings xposed mod too
