So my ringer is a bit weird, when the phone rings the ringer is initially low and kind of distorted then a few seconds in it goes up to full volume. Anyone else have this or know how to fix?
Thanks

Its normal. A feature, not a bug.
I like it. Means I can grab the phone before it gets loud.... think of it as a pre-ring.
Yep, mine does it too. I like it so I don't get a full volume blast right away when the phone rings, making crap my pants.

That's exactly what it is for. Just in case you have your phone to your ear already it isn't blaring. it's like a warning feature.
It's one of my favorite features on this phone. I really really like it.

Why would your phone be up to your ear if you aren't on a call?

its how samsung made it.. all of these phones are like that first 2 seconds are very low then out of no where its loud... it doesnt even seem gradually thats why it sounds weird.... but its made like that! so dont worry about it
I think all samsung mobiles have this feature !
I had 4 Samsung mobiles and all of them had that feature !
I don't know why Samsung done this but I think there is a secret about it !
Oh ok awesome, thanks for clearing that up. This is my first Samsung, I've had mainly HTC's so I wasn't sure if my phone had a bug that I need to fix or something.
The volume it came originally like that cuz I went on YouTube & watch videos on the volume & it's originally like that. It doesn't bother me. I just needed to know why.
Well, I just missed yet another important call because I could not hear my call waiting tone/beep. It is so low that it's almost inaudible. Does anyone else have this issue at all? Any fix for the volume/pitch?
Edit: Running CM10.1 Nightlies

Do you have another device to compare it to? My Nexus 4s ringtone is more than loud enough, I can hear it in another room through a wall when it's charging

lmao nice reading
OP, what ROM are you using? I'm not sure about the stock ROM but with CM10.1, you can set it to vibrate on call waiting. Beyond that, I don't know if there'd be an easy way to bump the call waiting tone..
I know that there is a mod to make the speaker louder for the Nexus 4, but idk how good that is for the speaker. I also have the bumper, which lifts the speaker off whatever it's on so it isn't muffled. Maybe make a video OP?

dude reread.
Ziddey, yeah, I saw that, but I just don't know why the actual volume is so low...running CM10.1 Nightlies (first post updated).
The call waiting was so annoying I disabled it, usually I can just ignore it but not on the N4.
Running CM RC1
How was it annoying?
I thought it was just me, I cannot hear the call waiting tone usually either. It is not related to the media volume, is it?
Do you modify your /system/media folder? That's the only thing I could think of being the issue.

Usually I can ignore it and just talk through it, with the n4 it was loud enough that it interrupted the call.
I'm with the OP. I'm running Carbon 1.7 and I don't think I've ever heard the call waiting tone. I miss calls all the time because of this. If any one can shed a light on this it would be great.
Hi, ive been on 4.3(mja) since it leaked, but since i flashed it, i noticed that whenever i make a phone call or receive on the audio quality of the call is weird. It sounds like the treble is set toooooooo high. I can clearly hear the other person and they can hear me but it sounds weird. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or knows how to fix it. Currently im running Sac's custom rom v4.1, its based on 4.3.
-Oh and i download the stock tar from samsung for 4.3 and reflashed it with odin. I still have the same problem.

Don't know if this is supposed to be happening but anytime I play an audio file such as a ringtone or alarm or what have you, the sounds start off really quiet and then boost to their full volume after a second. Is there a setting I overlooked or is this by design? Anyone else seeing this?
Sent from my XT1575
Settings, sound, increasing ring tone option? Not sure if that's it or not.
I have caught this also where it starts off quite and then all of a sudden gets really loud but don't think it is every time.

Does it happen every time or on random? Some phones have in the settings->audio->fade in option.
Maybe its somewhere deeper in sound options?
Or esle, it could be some kind of software bug, hopefully not.
Hmm, it seems to happen more when I make it make a sound, like messing with the ringtone setting or volume control. Hit the volume rocker once and it's a barely audible beep even though it's almost all the way up. Hit it again and it blasts at full volume lol
Reboot doesn't do away with it

Yeah I've had this. Also the tone for notifications can be cut off short also. It's nothing major. I'm sure the next update will fix it.

Yeah, this is true for me as well. I believe it's an AOSP "feature". I haven't received my MXP yet, but this happens with my N6 currently.

Nobody mention that in the review, thats odd. We really need some quality in depth reviews.
Doesnt sound good (no pun intended).
I think it is some sort of speaker protection. I was playing music at call it 30% (it faded in). Then, as I cranked up the volume, it seemed to level off meaning 80%-100% sounded almost identical. Maybe an auto leveler/compressor to protect the twin speakers?
Complete speculation, your thoughts?
If you look at moto's official specs, they list something like "stereo speakers with smartboost". This tells me they have some sort of "feature" that dynamically controls speaker volume also.

Just received my device and its perfect...except for the top speaker being louder than the bottom one. I've seen other posts with people having the same issue so I want to see how many people this is affecting before I exchange mine.
I also noticed that at max volume they seem balanced but anything below that then the top is definitely louder.
same issue...top speaker is louder

I've had the M7, M8, M9, and a Moto X Pure.. They were all very well balanced /even sounding speakers. My N6P, is not..... And likes the OP, mine does balance out as you turn it up almost full volume.

For me it ruins the stereo effect of the phone...and 'stereo speakers' are part of the package we paid for when we bought this phone. At max volume they're fine so maybe it is a software issue.

I don't know that, but you can always try something like PowerAmp and mess with the balance. This doesn't help with videos or YouTube (or Google music), but for listening to MP3's through the phone speakers it will help.

I just got off phone with tech support, cleared my cache data and speakers are working great now..both at same volume..give it a try.
Top one might be slightly louder, but not that noticeable. I don't use speakers much anyways.

This could possibly be a software fault though...cause at max volume the speakers are balanced.

It does not appear to be a software fault. The drivers are different sizes, set in different enclosures (the bottom houses a microphone etc), so they are bound to sound different. Even at full volume, while more balanced, the tone is still different between the two. Can the balance be fixed with a software tweak? Certainly, hopefully it will be, but clearing cache has nothing to do with it.

Yeah the drivers being different sizes makes sense and would explain the difference but looking at the poll quite a few people have said their speakers are balanced?
Surely Google and Huawei wouldn't have overlooked this when designing the phone, especially when nexus 6 didnt have this problem. At first I thought it was a hardware fault too and was going to exchange my phone but I'm not sure atm.
Either way I hope a software tweak can fix this too.

At max volume, the speakers are reported to be more equal on most people's devices who are reporting this problem. I am on my second Nexus 6P after I requested an RMA for the speaker issue and both have had the unequal speaker balance. Both are also much more even at maximum volume. I think some people are just much more receptive to the difference than others and there is likely some variation between devices as well.
I have this phone for rew days now and I already noticed that the top speaker is slightly louder than the bottom one. I understand that the bottom one is a bit smaller because it has to include the microphone as well but they should fix it with a software update.
I did clear the cache, and it works, not at all, but okay, before clear cache, my top speaker so loud, almost cant hear bot speaker at high volume, after the cache cleared, its only have slightly different, just a little louder on the top
O ya, i have htc one m8 too, but dont have this problem, its sound fantastic
