Greetings. I'm new to these forums though I have visited numerous times to find fixes to various issues. I have rooted my Note 3 with towel root and now have Lollipop 5.0 rooted installed. I was hoping to install the Xposed framework in order to finally be able to kill the screen turning on with wireless charging problem. I wake up at night to my phone screen turning on and off as it cycles through charging and charge full notifications. I have installed "Headsoff" app which has killed the issue with wired charging and does prevent the sound notification with wireless charging but the screen still turns on. I also installed "App Ops," went into System UI and turned off Post notification per someone elses recommendation. Again, this seems to only apply to the wired screen on with charge function. When I tried to install Xposed framework, I learned it won't install on Android 5 without writing new code in the OS? This seems highly technical and risky to me as I am not that savvy with writing code. I have searched the forums and find many postings complaining about this problem and the best fix seems to install Xposed which seems hard to do with Android 5. I would greatly appreciate any input about how to solve this. Perhaps going with a custom ROM? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I've already tried that and have confirmed the "stay awake" fnt in developer options is turned off. Also, this is only happening with wireless charging. I have a wireless charge base next to my bed and also have one in my car. If I bypass wireless and directly hook up the cable, I have no problems. Very frustrating.
I am still hoping for help with this problem. I have searched and just don't find an obvious fix. I keep waking up to my display lighting up briefly. Once it starts, it cycles every few minutes; on/off. I don't know for sure but think it is the charge full/wireless charging cycle. It doesn't buzz or make noise as I have killed the sound notification. However; I can find no way to prevent the display from turning on. I found an app called "Screen Stay Off" which is supposed to prevent this. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. It causes the screen to flicker on/off rapidly, then the screen turns on and stays on. Frustrating. I am open to using a different ROM if no other solution. Thanks.

I have an s4 with a wireless qi receiver attached to the battery terminals. It also cycles through charging/not charging and it doesn't seem to matter how full the battery is. Sometimes, it will charge for 10 minutes and then just stop charging. Removing it from the charging pad and putting it back on will not charge the phone even though the receiver is detected by the pad.
I have a qi receiver on order for my note n900w8 and hope to have better luck with that than my s4.

Thanks. I haven't noticed a problem with charging. Mine seems to get into this cycle only after it achieves full charge. Then the "full charge" notification comes. Phone stops charging and starts discharging. Then when it drops to ~ 98%, it starts charging again and I get the "wireless charging" notification. After root and going through various settings, I have killed the notifications that used to pop up; "Full charge, please disconnect the phone from the charger" and then "wireless charge detected" notifications. However, I can't prevent the display from lighting up. If changing out the wireless receiver fixes your problem, please let me know. I wasn't thinking the receiver might be the cause, but at this point, I'll give it a try. Last night I capitulated and plugged the phone in directly to the charge cable and bypassed the wireless charger. I have no issues that way. Why wireless charging functions differently is a mystery to me.
With my s4, i tried 3 different wireless pads and only two of the three would detect the receiver and charger sporadically. One of the wireless chargers was a google nexus wireless charger. Hopefully, I will have better luck with my note 3 when I get the receiver from eBay. I got two note 3 receivers with nfc from eBay but neither of those receivers would work with my sm-n900w8.
My nexus 4 and nexus 5 which have built-in wireless charging receivers, works perfectly with all three charging pads without issue. They charge fully and don't give me messages that the battery is full.

First off,
this is not about the screen turns on at the moment when the phone is plugged in/out
this is not about i want to keep screen on when the phone is charging
The problem I am experiencing is:
when the phone is charging normally, the screen turns off. But at random intervals, the screen suddenly turns on itself and turns off like when you turn it on just to watch the time and let itself go to sleep. However, I have not moved/touched ANYTHING...
What am i using?
Nexus 4 shipped from play store
stock usb cable shipped with the device
AC adapter manufactured by LG (P500) which I have used for 2 years across P500 and Gnex without problem
AOKP unofficial and franco kernel
Settings are correct
Display settings > Sleep > After 2 mins of inactivity
Daydream > Off
Developer options > Stay awake > Off
Suspecting the ROM?
Unfortunately, I also got this on everything stock, when I was testing the phone before I root and just some basic testing apps were installed (Display Tester, Speedtest.net, Z-device test, Stability test)
BBS and logcat?
Unfortunately during plugged, BBS tells me it has no logs
and I tried to turn on alogcat immediately at the moment the screen turns on itself, however no suspicious logs shown
Only when charging?
Yes, I don't see similar random-screen-on behaviour when it is on battery
I have done numerous searches around but sadly can't find anyone with similar problem... Is it my stock usb cable was faulty which reconnects power at random intervals? Is it android 4.2 feature to screen on when something happens?
Please tell me if you have insights about it or you have experienced before!!! thank you very much in advance
P.S. this is my current list of running apps FYI

Might be a cable problem. I had this with my long cable but had since disappeared after switching cables. Good luck.

I don't think any app that you have running is the problem nor ROM or kernel that you're using. I think the problem is that either your USB cable is nor functioning properly or the charger isn't working properly (which is unlikely since you've mentioned that it had worked fine on previous devices).
If you have spare cable, try that. Also try another charger if that helps.

guys thanks for helping me confirm that the culprit isnt the phone/software
i was then inspired to inspect my AC charger and USB cable and found something totally RIDICULOUS..... -_-
i found out that the line "charged" on the lockscreen blinks for several times at the moment power goes into the phone
then i suspect that the phone is expecting AC power but the initial current is not enough hence making it blink
I took out an non-stock cable and try - similar behaviour
then i plug out my AC adapter from my wall and compare it with the stock N4 adapter... lol my 2-year old LG P500 adapter was 0.7A and our N4 should expect 1.2A as the stock adapter prints... things really get old these days just like the need of changing SIM card
I searched over my home for a universal travel adapter to test out the Stock N4 charger - no blinks of word, no screen on, both cables good
US adapters doesnt fit the power outlets here in HK so tomorrow ima immediately get a 1.2A local AC adapter and everything should be fine
thanks very much again guys!
Hello again friends!
On my phone, see sig for details, I have noticed whenever I place the phone on my QI Pad, while it does charge, The 'power source' is reported as AC, instead of Wireless. I believe this to be the cause of my problem of at night, when full charge is reached it chimes to confirm full, then drops 1%, so chimes to start again, and repeats.
I tried holding my QI Receiver (After market) to the terminals on my friends S3 I9300 and it showed up as charging Wirelessly, Can anybody tell me what in my phone tells the ROM what the power source is ?
And If they know a fix for what im experiencing. for example, if this is kernel related, any recommended kernels that support 4.3 ? c:
Thanks heaps in advance

I'm using the stock Samsung charger with a third party QI receiver module in my S4. It's correctly identified as a wireless charger when connected, but the problem with intermittent charging at night that you describe still appear. I believe this problem is inherent to the technology. However, I "solved" it by deleting the charger connection sound as well as using Tasker to completely dim the screen at night. This way I'm no longer bothered.

I can turn off the vibrate and sound nd screen on in settings, But I wanted it to identify correctly so I can use Tasker, and Daydream, only when on wireless.. :c
Im thinking it may be Rom specific.. in which case Ill ask my good old friend i've never really had direct contact with Vertigo
Hey guys,
Been a long time xda member, been busy lately with working in phones for work so haven't had time for here much, but needed to make time for this. I have had an issue with 2 different battery packs to charge my Galaxy note 3 while the screen is off. I have already contacted both companies and neither have heard if this issue b4.
Both will charge the phone up to 1mAh. I have charged my phone in a .7 mAh charger just fine. I am currently using freeza's knox removed rom 2.25b with stock kernel from the rom.
Is fast charge the culprit? Not a huge issue for me at the moment as I use daydream with ultra low setting so it charges fine that way but as soon as I turn the screen off it stops charging.
Anyone have any ideas or run in to this issue themselves?
Donyou happen to have lockscreen security enabled? Password, pattern, etc?
If yes, try setting the lockscreen security to swipe and see if it works.
The reason I'm mentioning this is because the USB connection is turned off when the lockscreen security is enabled and the screen is off.
It doesn't affect a 2.1a charger as that's recognised as a charger, but anything below 2.0 ampere is seen as a USB connection, and not a charging connection. Hence, it doesn't work.

Actually, I already had it on swipe as I like to change the dpi and the screen looks funny at 380 with it always maximizing widgets.
I did try and turn it completely off to test that and same result, with screen off and with the batty packs it won't accept the charge and they turn off, screen on they work fine. Also works fine with a .7 mAh wall charger screen on and off.
I have same problem. I got 2 ports 1amp and 1.5amps but note 3 stops charging after 25 seconds .battery works with other devices. I am sure there is a process that stops it but how do we find it.
got another charger low amps that works, laptop gives 0.5 car usb 0.5 all work except the external battery.
Hi does anyone else have an issue while charging the phone where the display keeps turning on every 10 seconds and then turns itself off?
Bill
No. It sounds like a third party app is causing that.
To check, boot into safe mode and try again.
That happens with one of my wireless chargers. I guess when hits 100% then drops and back to 100% Not sure if your using wireless or not.
I was not on a wireless charger, on the other hand I was on my old HTC changer that I have on another room. Was not doing it from what I noticed with the Samsung charger.
*** tried a different HTC charger and it seems to have stopped turning on, wonder if that HTC charger is throwing out different power

Or maybe it's got a short in it. My car charger was doing this on and off this morning. And I can tell the wires going into the base are going bad.

Yes I have this issue! I just bought this phone a week ago. I've been using the fast charger included with it. Every time I charge with the fast charger, no matter if the phone is on or off, the display will turn on and off every 10 seconds or so like it keeps getting disconnected/reconnected from charging. I tried charging my phone with a regular phone charger and the display no longer turns on and off. What's going on?

Yes, been having this issue as well (happened before I rooted). Only happens when I use my old HTC chargers, doesn't happen with the included Samsung fast charger, or a 3rd party wireless charger. Have tried turning off fast charging in Settings, disabling the Stay Awake when charging option, and charging in Safe Mode - makes no difference. Would be great to know what causes it!
Yes I'm having same issue! Only when I use my old HTC charger! Any other one it doesn't do this! Would love to know a resolution!
Its the older chargers, like the HTC, not having sufficient current for the S7s bigger battery.
Probable solution
I had the same issue with my S7. A week after buying it the display kept lighting up randomly during charging. I switched chargers to an older Huawei and the issue went away. Last week the issue came back. I tried blocking apps but it did not work. What worked for me was clearing the USB cache. Settings > Apps > Show system apps > Enabled > Search for USBsettings > Storage > Clear data and cache. PS - This also works if the phone wont charge due to moisture detection.
I had the same issue with my Samsung S7 Edge while charging using one of my dual monitor's USB Port. I just switched to another USB Port and it stopped doing it.
Weshp, thanks for your very specific answer. It seemed like it was working (my phone stayed off for a longer pause), but after about a minute, it started coming on and off again and when I check, there's data in the USBsettings again. If you have any other ideas, I'd love to know.
My Galaxy S7 has been doing this on and off for a long time. I suspect the cause is overheating because the battery is charging too fast. The lower power chargers won't charge as fast so they won't heat up the battery. If I'm wrong, I'd sure like to know how to fix it.
I can't find the path to clearing the cache so I haven't tried that.
Had the phone for a couple of days and just noticed wireless charging doesn't work. Standard QI charger that works with other phones. Tried with battery share both on and off. I installed the newest update when I got the phone and reset straight away to start fresh. Also tried rebooting now. Still doesn't work.
Any ideas?
I find mine very picky about charging wirelessly. It improved after the last update but it still requires careful alignment and doesn't work with every wireless charger I have, ir particularly doesn't like the wireless charging in the car.
