Hello
For a few weeks i've seen the Omnriom 6.0.1 in the update dialogue. I am running the last version of 5.1.1 (20160108-NIGHTLY) on my hammerhead device.
Can I just uprade using OpenDelta as I would from a 5.x to a 5.x.x? Or do I have to wipe my device entirely first?
Thanks for your answers.

You SHOULD be able to seamlessly upgrade unless we screwed up.
So make a backup first!!!
If things misbehave, try wiping.
Ok, to be honest that's what I did the first day it showed up. Phone way extremely buggy then (understandable). How is it today? Do you use it on your everyday device or just on a testing unit?
So I tried it via OpenDelta and after the upgrade "com.android.phone" crashes over and over. Same thing if I wipe the phone first. Went back to 5.1.1.
I opened an issue http://jira.omnirom.org/browse/OMNI-1272

Download a full package from dl.omnirom.org - and make sure to upgrade gapps.
I don't use gapps.
Are there any stable releases of Omni 6?
After flashing my mako to omni 6.0.1 I can´t login in any new installed google app they don´t find my account? Any ideas?

You need to flash a 6.0 gapps. Backuptool should not preserve any addons (such as gapps) across version upgrades for this reason.

And now getting "Infortunately Setup Wizard stopped"
Will try full wipe + flash then
I had to reflash the backupt from 5.x. Then I wiped instead of format and flashed Omni 6. Now it works.
I couldn't format, update TWRP, install Omni and SuperSU because when I tried to encrypt the phone it would never boot.

That trick worked but I'm now getting a lot of Google Play Services crashes
Can someone confirm that Omnirom includes the patch which is referred to on that page: https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Notes-for-Android-6.0

No, it does not include that patch. If you can get into settings, you can allow the necessary permissions manually (ie all of them). A full data wipe should work as well...

I've always been a bit nervous about that patch.
CM does not include it either, they do however include two patches that are in AOSP master but not any release branches:

There is no file Manager on the system. Nor do I have GApps installed. And when I try to install any thing, it wont install. & since I dont have the Play store, I cant go through that to download/install any thing either… What a mess

Your issue maybe that you don't have gapps installed and it's missing the installer files to install the apk

Does 'adb install' from a PC work?
Many of the gapps APKs are required to be in /system so they can't be installed via 'adb install' or any other method. Maybe the APK you're trying to install has a dependency on gapps.
Google apps, as well as apps that rely on the APIs they expose (mapping is common) are a tightly intertwined mess. You'll get seemingly silent install errors because you're missing libraries, for example. Trying to restore apps through Titanium Backup will similarly fail if they are missing required libraries.
They generally will show up though logcat if you look carefully. Resolving the issue requires the sufficiently complete and self-consistent (sub-) set of Gapps.

Yeah. What a lot of people don't realize is how many apps that are out there which aren't part of gapps, but require the presence of the core gapps components.

I was trying to flash GApps (Paranoid Android GApps) Google Stock Package, but got 'insufficient storage space in \system partition' instead. I tried formatting, wiping the system partition, and some other stuff. Could someone tell me how to fix this? I did a complete return to stock and tried flashing from there, but the error still came. The ROM that I'm installing this with is Euphoria-OS 1.0. I know it is possible because I was using this setup earlier, before I managed to break it. How do I install the GApps package without compromising and using a smaller package instead (maybe wipe/format \system partition in some particular order?). Using a Nexus 4, 16GB variant.

I guess that would work, but that's not really 'solving' the problem, more like brushing it under the carpet.

Have you used something like Titanium Backup to go in and remove the apps installed on /system you do not need? (additional language keyboards etc.)? I have not run into this on the N4, but have on other phones (try getting 4.4.4 KitKat on the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, I did ) , I would go in, remove the unneeded apps to free up space, and then reflash Gapps again.
I'm running into the same problem with my Nexus 5.
Even choosing the "mini" GApps there is not enough space to install.
This is really weird.
Would say this is a general problem with LineageOS
I only use Pico open gapps for all the roms I use and have tried so far that way you never have to worry about the insufficient storage space error
I've been fighting with this error and finally solved it... the system partition was not getting mounted.
It was expected to be here: /dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/system

To resolve:
adb shell
cd /dev/block/platform/soc.0/

LOL!!!! I'm going through this frustration right now. Couple things I've done first install a custom recovery it won't let you update. if you do get the endless bootloop clear cache and it will stop (the update is downloaded to the cache). It might do that twice then will pass. This worked for me until factory restored my device. I ended up forgetting and now I'm marshmallow.
Next thing I'm gonna try is pushing a build.prop from the next update to /system. It hasn't been pushed yet but they usually release it on the site with the factory images. If I don't flash aosp first.
Yes but i wonder if theres a way to disable it. it sucks that i have to clear cache every time it attempts to update. its happened 3 times on me now. i will try to install my own custom recovery so hopefully thats all thats needed but i noticed android also downloads the update in the background, which probably wastes more space if your not planning on upgrading.
Once you clear the cache it deletes the update. Almost forgot I read some where here on xda that deleting otacerts.zip will stop it from downloading entirely. Not suggesting you try it but next update I'm gonna
You might want to try the method I suggested at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62865084&postcount=6 and see if that works or not.

Tried this, and while it did stop the download from verifying, it just caused the nexus player to loop over and over by constantly downloading the update again, only to fail and repeat the process. This worked for a couple of days while i found the proper workaround, so thanks. keep in mind though that because it just caused the device to keep redownloading, this method could cause those on limited data plans to quickly go over.

for whatever reason service disabler did not want to work for me. it caused a constant crash every time i tried clicking on any service within the app. I did however, eventually come across "My Android Tools" by the same developer as service disabler. Using this app i was able to disable the systemupdateservice within both google framework and google play services. I had to use a bluetooth mouse to navigate though, as the remote didnt want to work on its own. Once i used this app and followed your directions, now when i attempt to do a manual system update in settings, it just acts like im on the current version, which i assume means it fails instantly. Thanks so much man! so far so good!
For anyone curious, the app is:

keep in mind you may need to connect a mouse somehow to the nexus player to navigate and disable the services.

I'm glad to hear that things worked out for you with this method and the alternate app by the same developer. I've been running Android 6.0 Marshmallow after flashing its factory image but once the monthly security updates and unwanted reboots in to TWRP start happening, I may disable the updates using this method.
How do you sideload either service disabler app? Neither are listed on apkmirror and searching the play store in browser doesn't give an option to install for nexus player.

Thanks for the info. Much more straight forward to do then sideloading app while hoping the app won't force close.
adb connect 192.168.xxx.xxx:5555
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
mv /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip /system/etc/security/otacerts-disabled.zip
mount -o remount,ro /system
Pr-requisite: must be rooted and ADB Wireless already installed.
Don't use this method (renaming ota_certs)! It will just cause the updates to continuously download and fail, then start downloading again. You'll use a lot of bandwidth this way, and if you have a data cap, this is a sure fire way to bust through it.

[UPGRADE(Dirty Flash)]
I have noticed if you dirty flash on first boot you may experience a little lag or possible reboot. After it settles down no issues. Not sure if its art related on upgrades or what. Its hard to pin point as it only happens once and smooth after that. Recommend after an upgrade let it settle in before playing hard.

FIrst boot is a little slow but that is due to art. I always recommend a clean install when upgrading but if you feel luck. Backup and try a dirty flash. If you have issues run a clean install and if you still have issues please post with a logcat. You can upload via bugreport in the toolbox under settings. TP Toolbox v0.42 Complete Data Reset Guide with Updated Links
NOTICE: THIS THREAD WAS ABANDONED BY THE OP, BUT I WILL KEEP THE LINKS IN THIS POST UPDATED
This guide is for a complete data reset to start from scratch. You should only need to use TP Toolbox to either adjust partition sizes, or start from scratch if any partitions got corrupted or you get errors while adjusting partitions or installing new ROMs.
If you end up having to start from scratch in TP Toolbox v0.42, follow these steps:
- Download a TP Toolbox Compatible ROM
- Download a TP Toolbox Compatible GApps
- Download a TP Toolbox Compatible TWRP
I recommend keeping those files on your PC hard drive so you can always re-use them in the future if needed.
1. In the TP Toolbox v0.42 main menu, do a 'Complete Data Reset' to start from scratch
2. Select the 'Install Android' option from the main menu
3. Copy the 3 above files from your PC to the "tpinstall" folder after the TP is mounted
4. When given the option to adjust partition sizes, increase the System partition to at least 1312mb
5. Finish install, and reboot to TWRP
6. While in TWRP, flash the newer 3/24/17 TWRP 3.1.0.0
7. Reboot into the new TWRP that you just flashed
8. In TWRP advanced wipe menu, wipe the System partition
9. While still in TWRP, flash the Wifi model ROM or the 4G model ROM along with some OpenGapps

Great work @flintman! Will test out now! Many thanks on your continued attention on the tenderloin!
PS: Your OP says you are working on "Marshmallow(Android 7.0.1)"

Missed that one. Remember to upsize your system partition.
Wow.
Thank you flintman for giving our touchpad a treat of fresh nougat.
I increased the system size to 1.5 gb several days ago and waited for your nougat. Now downloading it...
Edit: are we required to use the new twrp recovery in the OP? I have twrp 3.0.2 with an older time stamp.
BIG THANKS @flintman

Yes use the one in the op you will get an error (not fatal) on older recoveries.

I actually enlarged the System partition to 1500mb just to be safe, and am testing the Nano OpenGApps. So far everything works great! I've installed several different apps, and all seem to work just fine with no FCs. I also get to test out the apps I'm developing on the Nougat OS, so that's really nice. I do miss CM theme support and the Evervolv toolbox, but I promise to be very patient; as I know those are out of your hands. I also flashed AdAway to the system and that is also functioning fine.
EDIT: For those who would like a flashable zip of AdAway to flash it to the System, I attached it to this post.
I dirty flashed over evervolve 6.0.1 and it boots up in about 6 minutes.
It feels much faster than 6.0.1 and the multi window is amazing.
There is no evervolve toolbox tab in setting, so there is no option to change the cpu frequency.
In the OP, it mentioned evervolve toolbox for bug report. Is the toolbox supposed to be absent?
Edit: second question: where do we control root permissions?

Im surprised a dirty flash worked. As stated above not alot of features have been added but the toolbox access at the moment is only though the launcher you should see toolbox just like any other app. Root permission is controlled though the toolbox as well.
How can we promote this thread to the xda news portal? Flintman deserves a spot there.
Edit: there is no thanks button any more on XDA? I can not find that button.
Edit: now the thanks button shows up. Weird.

Toolbox is located in the launcher for now. All features will be added back little by little. 8) trying to get a good base and then we move on.

Ok, it looks like my setup. I find in touchpad toolbox the partition "media". So "media is like "external" right?
And about "cm-cache", i think i set it up in the past from 200 to 1000. Is that better? So normally yes because
of more. But i don't know how android handle it. That's why i ask.
Hey gang, using tptb I placed jcs rom and the gapps and used jc twrp recovert. it failed. ant pointers? thanks..

If you've switched to f2fs, then that's the reason. TPTB is unfortunately incompatible with it.
Hi didn't switch to f2fs. I downloaded the files and used pc tptb for the installation.. Currently I am trying to get wifi working better. I installed the job new rom and cm 12 going to the WiFi forum. I have just bought a new one that's 16 gig, it has WiFi access but falters..
But on this issue I will try to get it going on the other TouchPad see if it works..
Amazing stuff
Great job as always. Flintman, you have always been the first ou with the new release of Android since i have had a toucpad for the last few years. Congratulations again and thanks for all your work.
And Multi screen works too!
It looks like Hashbang is working on bringing Nougat to the OtterX
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=110844 :good:
Yep, it's booting and pretty much everything is functional now.
Hi
I tried the cm-14.0-20161003-UNOFFICIAL-otterx after a full wipe, and am getting constant com.android.phone has stopped messages.
I tried clearing
rm -fr /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/
rm -fr /data/data/com.android.phone/
which seems to have worked in other cases , but not here.
trying the cm-14.0-20160920-UNOFFICIAL-otterx now
Any advice?
-----------
edit: loaded the 0920 and pico gapps, no issues at all with the com.android.phone, seems very good. Thanks!
Thanks for your providing these

Bravo! Late to see but you made OtterX immortal. Too bad mine doesn't work anymore
@a.cid we need a blog post.
It's mainly the work of hashcode. I mainly fixed a couple of things and picked some commits to add compatibility with otterx (I've pushed these commits to CM gerrit and they were merged a while ago, so no more commits need to be picked when building otterx).

I have cm-14.0-20161003-UNOFFICIAL-otterx.zip installed with pico gapps but I'm getting constant com.android.phone has stopped messages.
I will try 0920 and report back.
OK no stopped messages on 0920 but this ROM has lots of lag.
Any way to speed it up?

To possibly fix the com.android.phone fc messages, try to freeze or uninstall the phone package as this device isn't a phone so it likely won't make a difference (although I could be mistaken). To speed it up, download kernel adiutor and then put low memory killer on "Very Aggressive". Next enable developer options in settings by tapping on the build number a bunch (if you are able to flash a ROM I assume you know the process). Go to developer options and turn animations down to 0 for everything. Next, try to stop any apps running in the background on boot etc...

re: com.android.phone....
I'd love to disable it but there doesn't appear to be a discrete app called com.android.phone in /app or /priv-app.
I recall in the Éclair era there was, but I haven't located it in this 14.1 environment....

My age must be showing lel. All jokes aside let me check and I will get back to you.
On that build, does it allow you to even boot up and use apps? I see a few packages that are part of system containing "phone" in Titanium Backup so it must be there somewhere.

well, I Think there's a newer release anyway that doesn't have the issue.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=110844
I fired up my Kindle OtterX, and its using a later build (cm-14.1-20161105-UNOFFICIAL-otterx.zip) that I don't remember having any issues installing, but
I must have installed and put the Kindle to the side.

@mikeataol I found the package
To remove it delete "TeleService.apk" in /system/priv-app/TeleService/

Going to test the latest build in a bit, I am basing this knowledge off of a Marshmallow ROM on my nexus 6, but I think it should be somewhat similar anyway. I will see if the com.android.phone package is the same (or there at all) when I get the Kindle all fired up with the newer build.

So I could be going crazy, but after installing the latest build (1105) even without gapps, every time I try to select the language for cyanogenmod it says the settings app has force closed on me and I cannot get past that screen. Any ideas?

So.... is everything functional?
WiFi, Bluetooth, Location, Good battery life, Google Play store?
Can I ask what recovery everyone is using to install these cm-14 roms
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
So excited to see 7.1 on here. I had issues with installing as well (TWRP 3.0.0), so I changed the install script directories to match those in CM13 and it seemed to install fine.
The problem I'm running into is low memory. Once it boots I have about 3MB free, which leads to crashes to the desktop and soon a reboot. Is the RAM supposed to be compressed or is there still more optimization that needs to be done?
Keyboard issues
My keyboard won't show up on any of the builds. Any suggestions?
Hi there!
It's been a while since i was using this tablet but here we are. I want to use it without PlayStore, just for reading so i want it to ask if this CM14 Build is working well or recommend me a solid Otterx ROM.
I don't know if this is legit... https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=312968873555011561
But according to that link, there is a CM14.1 build from 11/05. is it safe to flash ? What Gapps ?
Thanks in advance.

yes the build is fine. If you don't need PlayStore than you don't need any gapps...
see the posts above about removing the CM setup program while in recovery before launching the rom on first boot.
