S4 I9505 not booting after changed sim card tray - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505, which is not booting anymore after I tried to change the sim card tray. It gets stuck on the Samsung logo at boot. Recovery won't boot either. (says recovery booting but does not boot) I can only get it to download mode. I tried reflashing recovery with heimdall. Is there any way to recover data or fix the phone? I know it could be a hardware fault that's practically impossible to fix. Strange symptoms for a hardware fault though. Just looking for any ideas. It would be nice to at least dump data from it or get recovery booting.
Thank you for your help!

Try a different bootloader.
Or flash another rom with Odin.

Where can I find a bootloader to install? I tried googling a bit but couldn't find a clear answer. Do the modem files also have the bootloader, should I flash a new modem file?

Modem and bootloader are different files.
You can find modems and bootloaders this thread. You may have to scroll through the comments to find what you're looking for.

Tried flashing a new bootloader. Now I get a message that "Recovery is not seandroid enforcing" It still does not boot into TWRP recovery. I tried flashing another version of TWRP, but no difference.

Try this:
Open Odin, uncheck everything except f.reset time, flash TWRP, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, wait 5 seconds, replace battery, use button combination to boot into recovery. When the phone starts to boot, release the power button but keep holding the volume up and home.

Which version of odin would you suggest me to use? I tried with 1.85 and that didn't help. I'm starting to think that this might be a hardware fault, perhaps I broke something when tearing off the old sim card tray. Or the new part was faulty and somehow fried my phone. I have a backup from about a month ago. It was stupid not to take a backup before attempting to replace the sim card tray, but I tought it wouldn't be so dangerous.

Its not hardware problem. Hoy have a bootloop and Thats software problem. If you had stock recovery then the cause of bootloop also broken your recovery mode.
You will have to flash a full stock rom (Sam mobile web has them) or search here on xda.
A full stock rom has updated bootloader and módem, also stock recovery built in.

That also means losing all my data if I can't boot recovery beforehand. But perhaps I have to try that.

If you had usb debugging enabled you might be able to pull the data from the phone.
Odin 1.85 seems really old. I mean really old. You should use Odin 3.x. I had success with Odin 3.09 in the past.

Would it be enough if I flashed just stock recovery+modem+bootloader or something like that? I had usb debugging enabled, but since I cant get the system to boot at all it's of no use.
Can I use adb in stock recovery? I think the stock rom won't boot with my current data still on the device. I had cyanogenmod 12.1 installed. Haven't had stock rom in ages.

I prefer Odin 3.07 for all of my flashing needs. I have used it on a note 2, note 3, s4, s3, and s2.
If the flash fails, try different USB cables and different USB ports.

[Q] Galaxy S bricked and no USB/SD works

Hello, recently I've tried to install clockwork recovery in my Galaxy S (I9000B), so I've downloaded ODIN and all the other tools and drivers. But the USB on my phone wasn't working, and it was the phone, I've tried different drivers on different computers and the same result, "The USB device was not recognized". So I've downloaded on play market the Busybox, in hope of getting something done. After installing it, busybox asked to reboot phone, so I did it, and the problem started, the phone is stuck on the booting animation, that one showing the phone model. I can still acess the download mode and the stock recovery, but can't connect to PC to flash via ODIN, and external SD is not possible aswell. I've already tried to wipe dalvik cache and data, but nothing. What do I do?

try a a solution from My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card....Do remember to backup your contacts, data, images etc and also your EFS folder before flashing a ROM and make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Most of all i9000B is not compatible with i9000 ROMS so make sure you only use i9000B ROMS

Yeah, I've already tried that, but stays the same. I never got the chance to flash a custom rom because of the malfunctioning phone USB. There's nothing I can do, or there is something that I don't know

Maybe You should try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602877
I simply took off the back cover and heated the motherboard.
It worked for me!
If you still have access to your recovery then just install a new kernel and ROM.

[FIX] Bricked I9500 while flashing

Hey,
I wanted to flash the new stock I9500XWUBMG1,
I have quite a bit of experience doing it so I plugged my phone and odin wouldn't recognize it.
Tried a few things, and found out that it was recognized while not using download mode (but just having the phone on).
So I connected it to odin while it was on and then turned it off and put it to download mode, at this point the phone was recognized but appeared twice (the COM of the turned on phone and the one of the download mode).
I proceeded to try and flash it, and got an error quite qucikly.
After that error I can still get into download mode but no recovery or anything.
Tried flashing stock ROM again with/without PIT file, tried flashing CWM recovery with/without PIT file.
Right now I'm basically lost with nothing to do.
Is there a way to fix this that I haven't tried? What are the chances that hardware went bad and in need for replacement?
You could try...
Maybe it is just a soft brick that has occurred and nothing wrong with your actual phone hardware. Have you tried a different usb port? The only other thing I can think of is maybe having a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41072426
Using a different USB port I was able to repartition while flashing only a recovery (Philz touch),
Still I'm getting errors trying to flash the entire ROM.
I am now thinking of trying to flash a custom ROM (wanamlite) from the recovery mode.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: That did it, running on wanamlite.

System Software Not Authorized Error AT&T

Im sure you all have heard this one before. But I think mine may be alittle different. Im getting the error, System software not authorized etc. I bought it off of someone. I have odin 3.07 and it doesnt show the COM ports. I got USB drivers for samsung cellphones. I also got the stock ROM downloaded. I guess the question is, is there a way to flash this back to stock from the SD Card? I noticed this. I unplug the USB cable. The phone turns off. It does not come on unless the USB cable is hooked up. So I dont know if this means anything different. This phone has never been hooked up to this computer. It shows a Unknown Device in my device manager. Its hardware ID tag is USB\UNKNOWN. It is showing the SECURE FAIL: KERNAL. Can someone point me in the corrrect direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you when you bought it the phone booted is this correct?
If yes, what firmware is on it?
What have you done that no longer allows the phone the boot (did you flash something with Odin)?
The more info the better....

So you bought the phone and it has never booted for you?
If you have MF3 bootloader on there and someone tried to install a custom recovery it could be soft bricked.
Not sure what to suggest if you don't know what occurred to cause the phone to only go into download mode?
You could take it to best buy with a samsung experience center and have them reflash it?
The only problem with this is if you don't have MF3 bootloader, best buy will flash it and upgrade it.....
Try to Odin MDL on it first

When you mean MDL. thats the stock rom correct? I do have that. When I look at Odin, it doesnt show anything on the COM part at the top left. Like its hooked up to a com port.
What I meant by the Downloading ...... (with the driod logo guy) Im saying I can get it to do that. Im at the point where I cant get the S4 to be reconized by ODIN. I have the stock rom, odin 3.07 files. I have tried to install the samsung usb drivers....
Still no reply on how to fix this? I have no clue on what to do here. I dont know what firmware etc is on it. I bought it this way. I just want to flash it back to factory, its the att version. It only stays on when the usb is hooked up. I can get it to go into download mode. But on the computer, it doesnt show a usb device being found. I can start odin up, but nothing appears on the COM to show what com port is available. Is there anything I can do here off of a SDCard? I also need to mention that I can not hold down vol up and power and home button to get it to go into recovery mode. It flashes it fast and goes to the yellow triangle.
Anyone please.....
You need to get Odin to recognize it. Try different usb cables. Use the usb ports on the back of the computer. Try a different computer. Without knowing the firmware you're on odin may not work, but it should still recognize your device. If you're on mdl firmware Odin will work. If you're on mf3 then you're sol.
Have you tried to get into the recovery and not just the download mode?
Volume up + Home + Power - If you can get into a recovery try to do a factory reset.
If you cant get into the recovery than you'll need Odin. Sometimes (rarely) kies well affect Odin. If you have kies uninstall it and than run odin.
- Open Odin without your phone connected.
- Power on your device, go into download (Odin) mode. Volume down + home + power.
- Now plug device into your computer.
- Odin should read it, unless its MF3 firmwire.
If your phone is MF3, you may need a Samsung bestbuy rep to reflash the mf3 firmwire.

[Q] I think my I9505 is bricked help please?

Hi,
after the lollipop update the phone worked for a few days, then got in a boot loop.
recovery booting
recovery is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit recovery
what i already have done:
flashing several roms, no succes
no way to get in recovery mode with the buttons, flashing cwm and twrp without succes
i dont know exactly wich rom i need because i dont know the csc, the phone comes from groupon, i just know that if i have to send it to repair, i have to send it to spain.
i'm from belgium and the phone worked good before the update.
what can i do more to get it back to work?
thnx
When flashing, are you doing a factory reset before each flash attempt? Are you flashing a GApps after the ROM?

You said you're not able to enter recovery. Are you able to enter download mode by pressing and holding volume down, home, and power? If you are able to do so, tell us your carrier, as you're already mentioned what country you're in as well as the phone model.

Belgium doesn't have its own CSC codes, so use the unbranded German firmware found here (yes it will work) to restore your S4 to stock. After that, run with the stock ROM for a little while to make sure everything is fine, then root and install a custom ROM.

Were you able to get into the stock recovery after flashing the ROM?
no way to get in recovery. flashing the rom gives a pass, butt no recovery.
Are you using the original cable and not using a USB hub? If you are using a hub, disconnect from the hub and plug into an available USB port. If not using a hub, change ports and try again. Flashing a ROM should have cured all ills.

i'm using the cable from my S3 and no USB hub, directly into the USB port, flash result is pass and reset but no way to get in that recovery or no normal startup.
And did you change ports as I recommended?
If you can't get it working after changing ports and trying to install, look for the I9505 PIT file and use it with the ROM. The PIT file will wipe the internal storage and ensure it's configured the way Samsung wants it. If you still get no results after this, you'll have to take the phone to the repair center.
oké, that's what i thought, thanks for your help.
When we say don't use a usb hub, we really want you to avoid usb expansion cards also. You should be going directly into a usb port of the motherboard. Some people recommend disconnecting other usb devices such as external drives and hubs. My gs4 has touch screen issues when I plug it into a usb port that isn't a motherboard port.

Helpppp

Ok...
Somehow i managed to reach a point where my device does not boot when i press the power botton...
Unless i connect it to a usb or a power and then it starts and even goes to the android but loops...
If i disconnect it from the cable it just dies...
Any ideas?

Yes... It happened after i tried to update a firmware to lollilop...
After it happened i tried to fix PIT with a stock rom...
Now it turns on while connected to a usb shows the galxy logo and then reboots...
If disconnected from usb or power it just dies...
I can access download mode and cwm while connected to usb.
At some moments it even reaches the android system and tries booting but then goes to a reboot loop again.

Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist. Please provide your device make and model so I can guide you to the correct information and help you need.
Thank you.
What problem did the phone have that prompted you to flash the phone?
Did you perform a factory wipe in stock recovery before booting the newly-flashed stock rom for the first time?
The original problem was that all processes started halting...
I did the wipe to lollilop and then installed a rom... That is when tthe device bricked.
Later i downloaded a firmware which was supposed to be stock firmware and tried flashing it but it didn't help.
No matter what i try it keeps looping without the ability to power on without a usb connection being plugged (pc or power).
I am looking for an original firmware which would contain the files for the bbotloader and other in order to flash again...
Will appreciate any help.
The device was bought in Israel.
Did you try flashing a stock ROM with a pit file?
Hi and thank u for your response.
As far as i know it os a galaxy s4,
Gt-I9500 bought on Israel. Was running the cellphone company' stock version 5.0.1 with base version i9500xxuhhog1.
It started doing some problems after it was lost and found.
The cell company bllocked it and we had to replace the imei.
Then every process we tried to work with, halted.
So we decided to flash a new version and new firmware.
We tried moving to lollilop and cm12 but the dvices got to the point where it is now.
I am sure it is something we did with odin...
But not sure what.
Now the situation is as follows.
The device doesn't boot when pressing on the power button.
For booting we need to plug it to a usb power supply or pc and just go to recovery.
From there we choose the option of reboot system and it boots, but keeps looping.
If at any moment we unplug the ub connection it dies.
Following to some advises i tried getting the stock rom online and found a version i9500xxuhog1.
And a pit file.
I applied them to the device, though nothong changed.
10xs for any help.

Yes... Several times.
With several different firmwares.
So Odin never finished flashing a stock rom?
You may have to use a jtag service to repair the phone.
