G900T with an AT&T Sim: No Internet - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased a used g900t online in good condition to replace my broken g900a and just received it. Slipped my AT&T sim into it and booted, it didn't ask me to enter any code, and under network settings it seems to have auto set the AT&T apn settings. I can make calls and send text but there is no internet connection, and my plan allows 4g internet. There is also no 4G symbol next to my signal strength(there was once, but after restarting it, it never came back).
Can anyone shed some light?

The only suggestion I might suggest is checking that your baseband is the newest baseband. Sometimes there are updates in baseband that cause the phone to be able to communicate with the carrier.

In addition to what @genhen had stated, this depends on one or both of the following 2 factors...
1) You may not have the latest G900T baseband Firmware version. The latest one for the G900T is the "QC2".
If you need the baseband Firmware Modem Update, you can obtain it on the following link...
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603895052
... Just place it in the AP spot within Odin and it will install fairly quickly.
2) When your using a SIM for one carrier to be used on a device for a different carrier, you may need a "BYOP" (Bring Your Own Phone) SIM.
You probably should contact AT&T to see/clarify what SIM you can use/need.
For example... SIM cards meant for an AT&T device may not be friendly on another carriers device. You may need an AT&T SIM that's meant to be used on a T-Mobile device.
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
Good Luck!

[Q] tmobile and unlocked Samsung Tablet

I apologize because I think I may have posted my questionin the wrong place two days ago. I'll see if I can delete it. I hope a few people here can answer me.
My question is that I already have a voice data account with tmobile and SIM card for that account in my Galaxy S Vibrant. Can I remove the SIM from the vibrant and place it in this particular International unlocked P1000 Galaxy TAB to use this P1000 as phone and data just by moving the SIM card? Or do I have to still notify tmobile that I am moving the SIM to this unlocked P10000 device? And will all features of this international version then work....the phone and 3G data with my SIM from the working Vibrant? If I can just move the SIM card is there anything else that I have to know or have to do?
All US carriers consider Samsung Galaxy Tab as a mobile broadband data device and make difficult to walk around this decision.
Since you are going to get a Tab not from T-mobile, it will not have your IMEI number recorded and might treat your Tab as a phone allowing for both voice and data. The issue might be only that you will not get 3G for data because software and hardware do not support unique 1700/2100 AWS frequency bands utilized by T-mobile in the US.
Do you have the phone dialer icon? If not you will need to flash a rom so you have a dial pad.
Thank you both for some answers.
The reason I was looking at this imported version was because I read that this Samsung tab already allowed telephone and since I already had a working 3G and telephone SIM from tmobile I thought this was the way to go. I really wanted this Samsung Tab to do telephone so that was the real reason even looking at this particular item.
No I have not ordered this yet. I wanted to ask the questions BEFORE I paid the money to find out that it will not work in my situation?
So what I am reading from both of you is
1. I probably will not get 3G, and
2. I would need a dialer Icon from somewhere.
Not getting 3G is a "do not purchase this" issue then for me.
Any ideas on the Samsung Tab then? I do NOT mind signing it up with tmobile, I just also wanted it to do bluetooth phone, 3G and then only need to carry this one device.
You guys are great
Thank You
The T-mobile tab can be unlocked. After it is unlocked you can flash it with a European rom and Roto's modem swithcher. You can then run 3G on any carriers sim card and switch to 2g (edge) and phone with T-Mobile using Roto's modem switcher.

WoW. Thanks for that info.
Wonder if you do all this and will hear incoming calls if you are in 3G mode. (i guess this is what the Roto's switcher does, it places it in 2G or 3G). Then if you could/would hear it ring while in 3G, for an incoming call you would then have to switch to the 3G mode with this Roto switcher? Trying to get the call before voice mail kicks in? (what is it, an icon for an on-off type thing of its installed software).
Has anyone actually done any of this?
Yes its been done by many Tab owners. Search the galaxy tab developers section for how to flash roms, modems and kernals. You'll find a treasure trove of information on how to improve the Galaxy tab. The Developers here at XDA are an incredible group of people and most are willing to share their development findings with other Tab owners.
Good Luck.

Do I understand you correctly saying that T-mobile Tab after flashing can get 3G and voice phone on any carrier Sim?
This would be my "dream". So far I can only get either voice with phone Sim or 3G data without phone capability. BTW, the latter requires Sim with paid data service separate from smartphone. Roto's swither is just a utility flashing either phone modem or 3G data modem.
Would you mind to give more details supporting your post.
P.S. European Tabs have phone voice capability and a dialer out of box. Not extra flashing is needed.

Voice + EDGE data OR OR OR 3g data/ no voice NOT NOT NOT both!!
You cannot get 3G data and voice at the same time on the Galaxy Tab. With the modem switcher you can switch between 3G data only and 2G (edge) data and voice.
Until the development community can come up with a method to run 3G data and voice at the same time (if possible) the modem switcher is the best answer to the problem.
Also the the T-Mobile Tab can be unlocked so that any GSM carrier's sim card can be used. This allows you use the sim cards from Simplemobile or any other GSM carrier and not be locked into a T-Mobile sim card.
Anyone live here in MD and want to make some money setting me up doing this thread hack/install for me?
I am a T-Mobile customer and here is set up on my T-Mobile tab:
1.Tab running Roto's JME v4 (European firmware that will allow voice+edge)
2. Roto's Modem Switcher (switch between 3G only or Voice+Edge)
3. My old Vibrant SIM card (Voice+Data)
4. Broke IMEI so i could use my Vibrant SIM to go online and stop getting re-directed to t-mobile site.
So basically i use my tab as a phone now but only getting voice+edge, if i want faster speeds i switch over to 3G using the Modem Switcher. The only way you can get both voice+3g is if you unlock the tab and use AT&T sim, if you want to use T-Mobile sim that option is not available unless a modem comes out that allows both voice+3g.
Hope this helps in making your decision.

Hello and thanks very much,
Seems that you are a match to my scenario. Are you happy with everything the way it works now (voice/2Gdata).
Do you have Caller ID working in any setting/switch?
And to make sure I understand this part. If I am in 3G mode I will NOT ever know of an incoming call by any pop up or beep or anything? The only way to know if some one even tried to call is to go to voice mail from 2G/voice being switched? (se, I am not a voice mail user. i have my Vibrant tmobile voice mail turned off at tmobile.)
So what i read at the top of this thread about having to unlock it is not the case for me?
Do I have to remove anything or add anything else?
Having to do anything at all other than these 4 things you listed for me is not needed?
That's very interesting. How do you "break" IMEI?
And these installs that you did list, is this the exact order to do these things?
And what about the thing where someone said I need a phone icon?
How do you switch to phone mode and dial?
BTW how is it as a phone with Bluetooth device? How is the volume (at both ends). Can you hear okay?
And I think one last question. If you happen to be in a wifi spot and using the tab in wifi mode, does the phone work at all?

No true. If you flash the at&t tab with Roto firmware, and install the bell modem, you can have 3g and voice with an at&t sim card, but again, at&t tab only does this.
Dear noreturn
If you so eager to get it and need help send me PM. I am almost your neighbor.
I would not recommend you breaking (meaning erasing file containing) Imei.
You have two other options
- get At&T tab, unlock it use on Tmobile with Vibrant sim. You will get voice and Edge which is very usable around dc-md-va. 3g will be only on att.
- get European Tab that is unlocked and use it on same way as #1 but no extra firmware flashing is needed.
Unlocking of either Att or Tmobile Tab is easy the same is true about flashing. however it takes more time.
Caller id works as on any phone.

Yes I really do want to get this samsung with voice.
So are you saying get this version of the Samsung tab and use my tmobile vibrant SIM?
Then install that modem switcher thing is all? And I guess I read about a dialer icon or something?
European Tab has everything for voice and Edge but Tmobile tab just cheaper.
Dialer comes installed with European, on Tmobile it appears after flashing.
Hope you understand your options. Modem switcher helps only if you have paid data service or erased your Imei. The last case is legally questionable thats why I would not advise it.

True. I should have clarified my response in that I was referring to the T-Mobile version.
I have the Hong Kong version, which has the same 3G frequence with At&t.
I use a At&T sim card and has 3G or H on phone and data works perfect.
For t mobile sim card you will only get edge for voice and data.
If you have any question you can email me.
Jimmy
Its kind of pricy,it cost me almost 700.00,but you don't have to change anything.
It depends on what carrier you use Tmobile 2G, AT&T 3G.
I love the device.you can hold it by one hand and use other hand to surf.

[Q] Using Verizon Galaxy Note 3 International

Can someone Please help me figure out why I cannot get service on my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 when I'm traveling or specifically in India. I thought Verizon Note 3 is world unlocked out of the box!!! Am I wrong?
BACKGROUND:
I have successfully flashed my Verizon Note 3 to Boost Mobile so that means I used a Samsung Galaxy Prevail as my donor phone which means I changed the MEID # of my Note3. I have also successfully rooted the phone and have also installed Beanstown106 leaked version of KK 4.4.2 on the Phone with the latest Safestrap and it works fine as far as I can tell. I used the instructions from the following thread to flash my phone to Boost; just FYI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060085
QUESTION:
I try to insert the GSM SIM card for Vodafone carrier and it's unable to connect to network even though I added the correct APN settings. So does this have anything to do with me changing the MEID# on my Note 3, is this why it's not connecting to a network?
I kept getting the error message that "This SIM card is from an unknown source" So I disable the setup wizard 1.0 using nobloat app and it got rid of that message. I'm still unable to connect to a network?
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to fix it or can tell me what the problem is?
Or if there's anyone that has used the Verizon Note 3 overseas successfully that can tell me what I'm doing wrong?
purchase a local SIM from Airtel with a 1GB 3G package and 200 minutes of talktime for about 700 rupees ($10 or so)!!
When adding the new SIM you will see message "Non-Verizon SIM detected" but apart from that voice should work just great. Go into the APN settings the + now active and add in the new APN settings for Airtel. After you do this the internet will start working and you will be able to get H/H+ speeds there.
So yes, Verizon 4G LTE phones are truly unlocked for oversees use and you can just pop in a foreign SIM and go no worries...

Yes it may very well have to do with a IMEI change. I didnt think it was possible to change the imei.

So why would the Airtel SIM work and Vodafone will not? I don't get it they are both GSM carriers so why would one work and other one wont? Even though I fixed the APN settings for the Vodafone SIM.

My mistake, I meant I changed the MEID# not the IMEI.
But apparently you can change the IMEI# of the device as well, allegedly according to the following thread. I never done it myself.

That could easily cause you issues if your carrier can't understand the identification information your phone is providing the tower.
To be safe keep a log of what you have changed that way if it is worse you can know how to go back or what you have played with otherwise as with myself once time passes I completely forget all the details.

no data access

i recently got a verizon s5 G900v factory unlocked from ebay that was a store display model and has been upgraded to 6.0.1. I have an at&t sim card in it and only gives me the 3g or sometimes an "h" next to my signal bars.I can not send or recieve picture msgs even when connected to wifi. If I disconnect from wifi I can't use any data, connect to internet, playstore, ect. I have a Verizon factory unlocked s3 mini and my simm works perfect with data usage so that seems no prove something is wrong with the phone. What are my options on fixing this problem or installing custom rom? I have searched the threads and can not find any posts with my data issue.

was told at the at&t store that even though this phone is verizon factory unlocked the hardware is not compatible with their network....I now have it rooted and bootloader unlocked with 6.0.1 and will be trying differnt roms to rule out a software issue but looks like i may have to switch to verizon to keep this phone

The following link is a comparison between the G900V and the G900A:

You'll see that the G900V uses the CDMA band and the G900A uses the GSM band.

Activate T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint networks

Hi I was wondering if anyone had tried to activate a T-Mobile S4 variant on Sprint networks . I read where one will need a valid ESn Number . I realize that Sprint uses different bands for their voice text and LTE data then T-Mobile does . Would I need to install a Sprint variant S4 rom to solve this issue with the cellular modem radio . Any help appreciated
Late reply here. You have issues that will make it very difficult for you to accomplish what you're trying to do.
1. You can't install a Sprint ROM on a T-Mobile device. Odin will check to determine whether the ROM is correct for the device, and if it isn't, will refuse to install it.
2. Installing a Sprint baseband on a T-Mobile device, if it were possible, would render the wireless capabilities of the device useless until the T-Mobile baseband were restored.
3. You'd need to convert the IMEI to an ESN. This is perhaps the easiest thing to do since the ESN is the IMEI, but ignoring the very last digit in the IMEI (the check digit).
4. Sprint is extremely reluctant to activate non-Sprint phones on their network, to the point of outright refusal in some cases.
I personally recommend switching from Sprint to T-Mobile or an MVNO using T-Mobile if you really want to use this device. Not only is the service better than Sprint, you don't have any hoops to jump through in order to get the S4 working on the network. If you insist upon using Sprint, find a different device.

G930V service switched to AT&T, root, firmware, and international service questions.

G930V service switched to AT&T, root, firmware, and international service questions.
Hello,
I rooted my S4 a couple years back so I have an idea of how to go about this, but the fact that I have switched carriers has added more layers to my confusion when reading through the how-to posts on the forum.
I have attached my phone info. I have a G930V and I just switched carriers to AT&T. The only downside I've seen is that I can't send MMS.
To summarize my questions:
1) What is the most stable rooting/firmware to date? I have the all the latest updates pushed by Verizon, including the December 2017 security update. Most the guides on this forum are over a year old and trying to read through the dozens of pages of updated responses and procedures is giving me vertigo.
2) Is there any advantage to flashing G930A over G930U to my device? It looks like I can get all the AT&T LTE bands on either firmware and I don't care about using AT&T specific apps/streaming services.
3) Finally, I travel abroad regularly (Italy this year), and I would like to be able to buy a local sim card and minutes and use my device while there. Are there specific things I need to do/not do to allow this?
Any info/point in the right direction is greatly appreciated, I know the guys on here know there stuff .
you need to change your APN to your new carriers settings. Hence why internet ant MMS don't work correctly but calling does. This is because the modem works fine but the data is not getting through to the write network (or something)
google your APn settings for your new carrier and edit your APN in the settings of the connections.
good luck
Silkmeister1
Thanks, I did switch those settings and I have full functionality except for MMS.
