I dont know which method you used but you need to flash a custom kernel after the rom afair. Did you flash the one?

Press and hold volume down, home button and the power key until you get to the Download mode screen.
Press volume down to restart.
Immediately press and hold volume up, home button and power button.
You will see a message about "Installing system update..." which will then change to a Recovery Mode screen.
Use the volume keys to select the factory reset option.
Press power key to confirm that choice.
Once the wipe is complete, use the volume up/down keys to select "Reboot device now" and press the power key.

Trying to enter bootloader, goes to reset instead

I'm trying to get my hd2 to stay on the tri-colored bootloader screen but it quickly goes to a white screen that says "this operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel".
Pressing volup and other keys does nothing. I assume this is because I have CWM installed and im using an android rom.
To clarify: I can boot CWM and my android from nand, but I am trying to run task 29 because my rom is messed up and I can't get the bootloader screen to stay. It thinks I'm trying to reset the data but I'm not.... Any help?

Vol down and power button
Thats what I'm doing and it results in what i described in the first part of my post.
ive tried all sorts of button combinations and none work
Throwin this out there but could ur vol+ button be sticking???when u do vol +/- ull get that screen
i did a button test and all the buttons work like they should, except when i press vol up nothing happens but when i press menu it registers both menu and volup
but yeah volup by itself does nothing...
In order to get to the reset screen you must be pushing the Vol Up + Vol Down + Power on. To get to bootloader it is only Vol Down + Power on. Make sure that you press at the bottom end of the Vol button.
Ok so that means my volup is stuck or malfunctioning. Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Apart from getting a service, No. Sorry.

HELP! I can't access recovery!

I recently went back from liquid smooth to stock rom for my s4 and now my custom recovery TWRP won't open if I manually try it it will show the blue line then restart on to normal launch. :[ I lost my root and was trying to get into download mode but now I can't get that if i can't access recovery. Please help!

So holding the volume down button while powering on the phone does not get you into download mode? I thought that always worked.
volume down is Odin Mode. You want boot mode.
Volume Up. Home Button. and Power.
When you see the tiny blue writing in the top left corner. let go of the power. continue holding volume and home until it resets again. You'll be in Recovery Mode.
Be careful in there. Id suggest going to "Reboot Now" by pressing the power button.
That outta do the trick.
Hope it helps.

Hardware button boot into Recovery with TWRP

Sorry if this post is redundant, but the methods I've seen haven't worked, so I can't be alone. Here is how to boot into TWRP if your phone is boot looping/soft bricked. (info pulled from here, of all places.)
1. Make sure phone is completely powered down.
2. Press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button.
3. When the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again.
4. Release both buttons when the Factory Hard Reset screen displays.
5. Press the power button three times, like it says. Even though it says it will delete everything, it won't (I can confirm that if you are at least on v2.6.3.2).
6. After a "factory reset processing" appears, you should get the TWRP flash screen, and you are good to go.
Hope this helps someone besides currently frustrated me.
I LOVE YOU! I honestly didn't think this would work but it does and i'm so happy.
just about to make a thread asking how to do this. Glad I searched. way to make you jump through hoops tho.
thanks for this. for me the phone didnt even have to be completely powered off.
i wa sin a sleep of death so i held down power and vol down until lg logo appeared let go and then pressed power again. pressed power 3 more times and it booted into recovery

Thank you, doing my best to help out.
Sent from my LG-D800
Awesome. Didn't know this!
Thanks
@jadengore : I was stick in a bootloop, and your thread helps me a lot !
Big thanks !
:good:
Also, if you're too scared to try that, I've had success using rom toolbox to reboot into recovery. Of course this is assuming you have a working system.
Thanks very much, but...
Hello,
I unfortunately dropped my VS980, cracked the screen, and the digitizer only works on the bottom portion of the screen. I have a new screen coming, which should fix this issue, however I would like to get my data off my phone (pics), but I can't as I have a password (draw a line/shape kind) and without being able to enter this in, it will not connect to my PC as mass storage.
I was hoping to be able to boot into recovery with hardware buttons and get my data that way, not sure if that is possible either, but at least try it. This I found to work to get me to the factory hard reset screen, but I am skeptical to push the power button and have it wipe my data!
I am open to other options to get to my data if anyone has any, including android device manager which is something I have thought of, but not sure if I can reset the security to nothing, or maybe as the bottom portion of my digitizer seems to work, I can enter in a space or a period for a password and enter that in.
Looking for any guidance!
Thanks!
Got it!
Redid the password with android device manager, which got me in, but I didn't even need to do that as I had the brainwave to plug a mouse in with a usb adapter. Works flawlessly, got my data, now just waiting for replacement screen!
Strange Problem
I am using F-320K[G2], Cloudy G3 Rom, when I hit boot into recovery it does bring me to TWRP but hardware buttons doesn't work. It just restarts the phone.
Vol down+Power till LG logo up, release and press and hold again and after few secs it restartsand came back to LG screen. If I continue to held it it just repeat restating.

steps to enter recovery that worked for my Sprint LG G2 on ZVC firmware.
1) hold power and volume down button till you see LG logo -- quickly release these buttons and
2) immediately hold power and volume up buttons to enter into factory reset menu.
Then 3 presses of power key to confirm wipe and enter TWRP recovery. :good:
I was going mad trying to enter recovery for an hour. It appears like different models/software versions have different key combinations for entering recovery mode.
My phone was stuck at lg logo screen and i didnt have nandroid backup of the phone. so couldn't try the TOT restore method too as i waned my phone data.
Another way to get to Custom Recovery

The way that let me get into custom recovery is different.
I hold 'vol up+power+vol down' to start from turned off state and keep holding it[Don't leave just keep holding the 3 buttons]. It doesn't show factory reset screen, it get me into TWRP[Custom Rom] directly. I heard 3 buttons gets u in safe mode IDK but I got into proper working TWRP.

if anybody's looking for the information in this thread like i was, and the posted method doesn't work (it did not for me):
1. Power off
2. Hold volume down and power
3a. release both at logo AND press BOTH at logo right after releasing
4a. Enter recovery
You should enter recovery, but if not...
3b. Keep the buttons pressed (your phone might continue into the start animation, but if you keep the buttons press it will return)
4b. The first logo will appear. Release both and press BOTH
5. Enter recovery
hope this helps someone

this worked omg...thanks a million...
Just wanted to contribute here in case anyone else had tried everything listed in this thread and still was unable to boot into TWRP.
I'm on Sprint, stock, rooted ZVE, and I have TWRP 2.7.
1. Power off phone, wait a few seconds to make sure phone is completely off.
2. Hold power and volume down.
3. As soon as LG logo appears, KEEP holding down power... BUT release volume down and SWITCH to holding volume up.
4. After a few seconds, screen appears saying "Recovery mode" and TWRP opens up after that.

Cant enter to Recovery Mode

1. Sorry for noob English.
2. My S4 home broken.
3. Before i format System partition i use power menu to enter recovery mode
3. After i formar System partition i got Samsung and GT-i9500 at start up and got black screen ever
4. How i can enter to recovery mode to install new rom ?
Ignore the home button. Try pressing just Volume + and Power.

Thx bro for answer !!!
When i try pressing just Volume + and Power
My phone restart and black screen and restart and black screen TT
Flash a stock ROM through Odin. That should get you back to a running state. From there you can customize as needed. None of the key combinations need the home button to work, so you shouldn't have issues. But, you should repair that home button anyway.
if you still have a recovery then you need to let go of the buttons as soon as you see blue text at the top of the screen. if you continue holding the buttons it will try to boot the rom...
With broken home you can not enter recovery mode or download mode. Recommend replace a new home button or sell it to buy a new phone.
I dont think you need the home button. Press and hold volume up. Then press power button and release it after a few sec but keep holding volume up.
Same method applies for download mode only then with volume down.
@DSA: Next thing you know, he will have a way to reset the Knox flag.

Stock recovery XT1642

Does anyone have a working stock recovery for the XT1642. Everthing i find and flash gives an error (file not signed or corrupted) literally everything gives me this. I now get the "no command" error when i open the recovery from the bootloader. I'm looking for one cuz i just got the nougat update but i cant update with twrp or a broken "no command" recovery.
Can anyone help?
As long as your recovery flashes with OKAY at the end of your command, the recovery should be flashed. Reboot into recovery to ensure it's not overwritten.
With the no command in recovery, press the power button, and whilst holding the power button also press the volume up button, then release the volume up button and then the power button. After a few seconds of pressing that combination, you should enter the recovery options with 'Apply update via SD card', 'wipe cache' and other menu items.
Hopefully you'll be able to install your update - in the event you get an error 7, you may have to re-flash Marshmallow or flash the fastboot Nougat ROM. Good luck either way

To piggyback on this reply, it can take a little practice to press both buttons correctly and get this to work. Or maybe it's just me

It's possible, as Mistersteve posted and I concur, the key combo takes some time to get used to, also, I recall the top option when you get into recovery is 'reboot to system', so that might have been accidentally pressed. Thanks google....
All I can suggest is be a bit slow with the key presses, I think the key combo last time took about 5 seconds. It's fiddly, though hopefully you'll get there!

Okay, starting from the top: (credit to the steps listed in the Motorola support document: https://motorola-global-portal.cust...prod_answer_detail/a_id/105537/p/30,6720,9390)
1) With your device powered off, hold both the power button and the volume down key until the device powers on, then release.
2)This will boot your device into the bootloader/fastboot mode. Use the volume keys to select Recovery. Press the power key to boot.
3)At the No command screen, hold the power key and then press, then release the volume up key, then release the power key. You should then be at the recovery menu screen. This step might take a few tries.
You may choose to skip steps 1 and 2 via adb, so whilst your device is powered on and booted, plug your device into your computer (checking that USB Debugging is enabled), and in the adb terminal execute the command 'adb reboot recovery'.

It did work, sadly the update failed anyway. I thought fixing the recovery would make the update work but no.
