Sorry if this post is redundant, but the methods I've seen haven't worked, so I can't be alone. Here is how to boot into TWRP if your phone is boot looping/soft bricked. (info pulled from here, of all places.)
1. Make sure phone is completely powered down.
2. Press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button.
3. When the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again.
4. Release both buttons when the Factory Hard Reset screen displays.
5. Press the power button three times, like it says. Even though it says it will delete everything, it won't (I can confirm that if you are at least on v2.6.3.2).
6. After a "factory reset processing" appears, you should get the TWRP flash screen, and you are good to go.
Hope this helps someone besides currently frustrated me.
I LOVE YOU! I honestly didn't think this would work but it does and i'm so happy.
just about to make a thread asking how to do this. Glad I searched. way to make you jump through hoops tho.
thanks for this. for me the phone didnt even have to be completely powered off.
i wa sin a sleep of death so i held down power and vol down until lg logo appeared let go and then pressed power again. pressed power 3 more times and it booted into recovery

Thanks
@jadengore : I was stick in a bootloop, and your thread helps me a lot !
Big thanks !
:good:
Also, if you're too scared to try that, I've had success using rom toolbox to reboot into recovery. Of course this is assuming you have a working system.
Thanks very much, but...
Hello,
I unfortunately dropped my VS980, cracked the screen, and the digitizer only works on the bottom portion of the screen. I have a new screen coming, which should fix this issue, however I would like to get my data off my phone (pics), but I can't as I have a password (draw a line/shape kind) and without being able to enter this in, it will not connect to my PC as mass storage.
I was hoping to be able to boot into recovery with hardware buttons and get my data that way, not sure if that is possible either, but at least try it. This I found to work to get me to the factory hard reset screen, but I am skeptical to push the power button and have it wipe my data!
I am open to other options to get to my data if anyone has any, including android device manager which is something I have thought of, but not sure if I can reset the security to nothing, or maybe as the bottom portion of my digitizer seems to work, I can enter in a space or a period for a password and enter that in.
Looking for any guidance!
Thanks!
Got it!
Redid the password with android device manager, which got me in, but I didn't even need to do that as I had the brainwave to plug a mouse in with a usb adapter. Works flawlessly, got my data, now just waiting for replacement screen!
Strange Problem
I am using F-320K[G2], Cloudy G3 Rom, when I hit boot into recovery it does bring me to TWRP but hardware buttons doesn't work. It just restarts the phone.
Vol down+Power till LG logo up, release and press and hold again and after few secs it restartsand came back to LG screen. If I continue to held it it just repeat restating.
hardware keys to enter recovery. voldown+power then volup+power

steps to enter recovery that worked for my Sprint LG G2 on ZVC firmware.
1) hold power and volume down button till you see LG logo -- quickly release these buttons and
2) immediately hold power and volume up buttons to enter into factory reset menu.
Then 3 presses of power key to confirm wipe and enter TWRP recovery. :good:
I was going mad trying to enter recovery for an hour. It appears like different models/software versions have different key combinations for entering recovery mode.
My phone was stuck at lg logo screen and i didnt have nandroid backup of the phone. so couldn't try the TOT restore method too as i waned my phone data.
Another way to get to Custom Recovery

The way that let me get into custom recovery is different.
I hold 'vol up+power+vol down' to start from turned off state and keep holding it[Don't leave just keep holding the 3 buttons]. It doesn't show factory reset screen, it get me into TWRP[Custom Rom] directly. I heard 3 buttons gets u in safe mode IDK but I got into proper working TWRP.

Hold Volume up and press the Power Button, when comes Lg Logo release the Power Button and start the TWRP
if anybody's looking for the information in this thread like i was, and the posted method doesn't work (it did not for me):
1. Power off
2. Hold volume down and power
3a. release both at logo AND press BOTH at logo right after releasing
4a. Enter recovery
You should enter recovery, but if not...
3b. Keep the buttons pressed (your phone might continue into the start animation, but if you keep the buttons press it will return)
4b. The first logo will appear. Release both and press BOTH
5. Enter recovery
hope this helps someone

this worked omg...thanks a million...
Just wanted to contribute here in case anyone else had tried everything listed in this thread and still was unable to boot into TWRP.
I'm on Sprint, stock, rooted ZVE, and I have TWRP 2.7.
1. Power off phone, wait a few seconds to make sure phone is completely off.
2. Hold power and volume down.
3. As soon as LG logo appears, KEEP holding down power... BUT release volume down and SWITCH to holding volume up.
4. After a few seconds, screen appears saying "Recovery mode" and TWRP opens up after that.

Ive tried the volume down and volume and power but it wont work.... Any suggestions?
You are sure your phone is off and you:
Hold down the volume up and down with your left thumb and make sure there is a click feeling from both buttons and use your right hand to click on the power button?
I'm having the exact same problem. Have tried about 25 times to boot into recovery. Just does not work.
Pull the battery after every failed attempt took me about 2-3 tries. Before you do anything shut off phone pull battery then attempt to boot into recovery.
Yes, I'm doing that. The samsung screen comes up and if I release the buttons it does the normal boot up. If I keep holding the buttons the black screen with "vibrant" keeps coming on and off.
So far I discovered that it works perfectly if you hold the power button until after the Vibrant logo appears and then release the power button while still holding the both volume buttons. If you release the power button before the logo appears it will FAIL.
Only after the logo dissapears you can release the volume buttons.
In other words:
1-Press and hold both Volume buttons
2-Press and hold Power button
3-After Vibrant logo appears release Power button
4-Wait until Vibrant logo dissapears and then release Volume bottons
5-You should now be in recovery
Pito
Wow, I followed your directions step by step and still no luck! I wait till I the Vibrant logo to dissapear to release the volume buttons but it just boots up like normal. Thanks anyways! Is there another way of rooting my phone?
What I do as well is hold until the first logo dissapears and as soon as the second one appears release buttons. Then its in recovery.
Ive tried everything you all have said so far and I still cant get my phone into recovery mode. I was able to do it on my wife's vibrant but not on mine. Any suggestions?
Try getting quick boot from the market. It had an option to reboot into recovery. If your problem is just getting the button push right (i had real trouble with it at first) then this should work.

If you are rooted then Clockwork Recovery Mod has the ability to boot into recovery mode. Or you can turn on usb debugging and use adb. Start>Run>cmd and use "adb reboot recovery"

I recently installed the Acer Iconia Phone Disabler app, and promptly forgot the instructions to disabling it before updating. I tried to install Virtuous Picasso, now it's stuck on the Acer logo screen.
I can't even get CWM to boot (tried powering up pressing vol down and power), but no joy.
Any suggestions?

Well you're either booting it wrong or you've written it wrong. You don't power up the device then press the keys you just press volume down and hold power until the device goes into recovery. So basically you power it on with those buttons.
And the brick could be because you didn't wipe the device. did you do it?
I don't think that app is your issue, because that ROM would have re-written those apps anyway.
See the thread from SC2K on how you might be able to get back to boot.

OK, I wasn't doing it right, apparently. My phone is a Samsung Fascinate, when booting it into recovery I can let go of the buttons once it powers on. The difference is the Acer has to have the buttons held down until you actually see the recovery text appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
So anyhow...after doing it properly, I was able to get it to boot into recovery. Thanks for the suggestions. I've got my tablet back on its' feet, and restored (thank you Titanium Backup!)
Glad you've got it fixed.
And yes this tablet can confuse you because you have to hold the button for quite a long time.
How do I do this? The phone is stuck at the boot animation and i just cannot get it to do anything else, no button combo seems to work, i casnt even get it to power down properly. Never had this much trouble with a phone before.
Hi,
Power OFF your phone then:
HOW TO ENTER RECOVERY
Method 1: Hold the power button + volume down button until the LG image appears. Once it does let go of the buttons then immediately push and hold them again until recovery boots.
NOTE: The method above will arrive at the "hard reset" area, but when choosing hard reset, it will take you to CWM (without actually resetting).

Thank You, what a fiddly process!! Now restoring from backup.
^obviously doesn't understand that you cannot power your phone down properly..
Lg is a little tricky.. But.. In order to hard power down, you must hold the power button until you see the phone power off, but don't let go or it will reboot. Keep holding the power button until you see the lg logo and it will then power down completely.
To get to recovery, hold vol down+power until you see the recovery mode loading. You will see the lg splash screen first but just keeping holding the buttons.. No need to let go and then try pressing them again as the post above me stated...

Are you sure it doesn't actually reset? I'm curious ... because Ive got TWRP and just to avoid that I always reboot into recovery from the rom ... and I've just been scared whenever I see that white screen
I tried to update my LG G2 D802 from CM12.1 to 13 using the following steps:
1. reboot into twrp (2.8.7.3)
2. full wipe (all but internal storage)
3. installed bootstack-d802-CAF-signed.zip
4. installed CM13
5. reboot system
so far it worked fine, so I went back into recovery mode, installed the open_gapps-arm-6.0-stock-20151203.zip. After reboot, the phone keep throwing error messages "google service is closed" and keep repeating. I thought it may be an error in the gapps so I went into recovery again and tried to install another gapp version. I did a full-wipe again, but then I accidently did a system reboot. Now the phone is stuck after showing the LG logo and won't start properly. I try to go back into recovery mode:
1. turn off the phone
2. press power + volume down until the logo shows
3. release and repress the both button, which should bring me into recovery mode, but it didnt work. tried it numerous times, but always the same, if I release and press the both button after LG logo, the phone would just restart after few seconds...
can someone help me? Since the phone doesn't start, I can't install anything. Is there another way to get into recovery mode? Or can someone explain to me what I broke?
Don't press and release the volume down and power button at the lg logo. Just hold it until it goes into recovery.
If you can't get in, try to TOT back to stock. I would recommend you stick with rooted stock before you hard brick it(if you haven't done so already). Not only is cm buggy ass hell on the g2 but MM will be even more so since it's so new. Good luck.

+1 to this method, i have been using this when I was not able to get into recovery easily. My issue is unrealted to yours though.
I had a similar issue trying to enter Recovery on my phone. I've tried a lot both methods, so I turned off the device, waited something like 5 minutes, then tried the vol up + vol down method and it worked. I don't know why, but that's not the first time I have to wait a bit longer to try the key combination in order to enter Recovery. Just in case you can't turn off you phone completly, hold power button till phone turns off, keep holding it, wait for the LG logo to show up, when the screen goes off, release the button. Good luck

It's not working for me. I got excited for a minute since others had luck with it, but it was a no-go for me. I know this is an older thread but....
It seems like being rooted, having TWRP and CM13 and Flashify, between all those, something should freakin' work, besides goofy hardware button combos. :crying:

Quick question for all. Have TWRP installed, rooted all good.
Trying to reboot into recovery when power is off. I read to hold down vol down and power until LG pops up then let it go then hold it again.
I do that, then the bootloader screen pops up. What do I do, I'm lost!!

ONLY USE THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE TWRP INSTALLED!!!!! OTHERWISE YOU WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE!!!!!
While the device is powered off, press and hold Vol - and Power button. When you see the LG logo quickly release only the power button and re-press and hold the power button (Never let go of the Vol - button) This will boot you into the LG Factory reset screen. ONLY USE THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE TWRP INSTALLED!!!!! OTHERWISE YOU WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE!!!!! Choose yes to both options and you will be rebooted into TWRP. TWRP intercepts this command and ignores the factory reset part.
There's a nice app in the Playstore by the same guy that makes 3minit battery called 3minit rebooter. Free and works awesome to reboot recovery.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=three.minit.Rebooter
or, use adb on your computer and do "adb reboot recovery" - it is the most reliable method for me

The same method helped me get into recovery. Just remember to let go of the power button for around a sec before repressing it again.
