Way's to Improve the Fire TV - Design Choices - Fire TV General

I'm sure we all have ideas on how the Fire TV can be improved upon. We can share those thoughts here. For the past few minutes I keep thinking about how the Fire TV remote would be a good place to start. A power button for your TV, IR pointer, volume and channel buttons would be nice. Also, a shuffling of buttons to make the remote gaming friendly would work wonders. It could all be done in a way that doesn't ruin the overall simplicity of the remote. I'll be more than happy to post a drawing if anyone is interested.

Rear-facing camera into optical pointing device?!

Hey! After many frustrated rides in crowded public transportation, unable to get full functionality out of my tablet, due to having to be reduced to using only one hand in confined spaces, I spent hours today searching online for a bluetooth trackpoint, trackball, or trackpad that could be mounted on that back of my tablet on the side near where my hand is comfortable and my fingers are free, so that I could accomplish this. But no dice.
The closest I could find was this small, reversed, stickable touchpad (Google "ergo reverse touchpad"), but it is wired and with a full-size male USB port no less! Plus, I'm skeptical of the usefulness of a trackpad even this large for this purpose, for precisely one reason: when you are holding the device with one hand, you lose the crucial ability to move your wrist in relation to the tablet: which is a serious trackpad buzzkill. So, only a finger-sized trackpad could do the trick -- if indeed a trackpad was the way to go.
THEN I ran into MicroPointing (Google "micropoint"). And the simple DIY multitouch mods using webcams (Google "dirt cheap multitouch pad"). And the fact that (YouTube ?v=bci7Gi05BNc) optical mice themselves are basically modified cameras. (Sorry, I had to redact the links because I'm new to XDA.)
And it dawned on me: There is a camera on the back side of my tablet.
So! I'm sure you can see where this is going. If I hadn't just started a new position as an IT manager, with a huge, looming learning curve hanging above my head, I would have tackled this project myself. But I can't. And it pisses me off. But there it is. Someone tell me I'm not the only person who would pay $100 just for a feature like this?
TLDR; ...Is anyone sufficiently intrigued to write an Android app to use a tablet/phablet/phone's rear-facing camera as an optical pointing device?

Video Shield no router laptop Streaming PSP

This is a video for people who dont have a router or nvidia gpu pc, or would like to use their laptop. Its showing hotspot streaming with the PPSSPP emulator and its performance on god of war. Natively the shield cant run god of war at 60fps..so far. With streaming it is 60fps.
http://youtu.be/0vEK_x-s0zo
Gotta admit, using this method has by far, been my most efficient method as of yet, for streaming.
Okay TC, i'm having some trouble
And the biggest Issue i've come across right now are controls.
1. Mapping Triggers onto emulators. I tried out Dolphin and PPSSPP for streaming.I was able to get the buttons recognized from the Shield Except for the Last Triggers. These would be equivalent to the L2/R2 buttons on the PS2/PS2/PS4 controller.
With the DS3, i was able to map all buttons onto dolphin. Yet I cant get it to work with the Shields Layout
2. PPSSPP Left Analog Stick Trouble. So I map controls, and the Left Analog stick works cool for going down, left, and right. But in terms of going up or forward, it doesn't separate it.
Let me go indepth alittle more.
Dissidia 012? While I can go forward with the analog stick, it also brings up the camera way to far. Same as it would if I used the d-pad to bring up the camera
With Tenkaichi Tag Team? When I go forward with the left analog stick, my character only goes up. He doesn't go forward. It's the same with the d-pad, though IIRC going up in Tenkaichi tag team has always been the case for the D-Pad. But the issue is that I can go forward with the left analog stick.
when I use a DS3 controller however, it recognizes it, and even the R2 button(which was never with the PSP) can be used to speed up the gameplay. While with the Shield, no option of recognition.

This has been discussed already. Have a search of this forum.
Basically it's due to the difference in aspect ratio between your TV and the tablet.
Under the original firmware, when using a video app like MX Player it was possible to zoom in on the tablet and this would allow the image on the TV to zoom to the point where the black bars on the disappeared. This no longer works on either the 4.3 or 4.4.2 firmware. If you use HDMI a lot and the bars bug you, you need to roll back to the 4.2 firmware. Bear in mind you will still get the black bars on the main GUI, but not in movie players that allow zooming.
thanks for your answer
i found this im not sure if working

Good find. For my part I decided to take another route. I now use a wireless dongle and the free companion app by EZCast to stream movies to my TV which works quite well now - when streaming in EZCast mode (basically WiFi direct) there are no bars on the left and right. The screen can be turned off to save battery. You can also minimise the app while you're streaming a film to allow you to open the IMDB app for those vital 'what has she been in before' arguments with your partner . The dongle was about £30 from Amazon. It also features EZMirror which, um, mirrors the whole tablet's screen to the TV but then you're back to having bars left and right, and there's too much latency for gaming. Also, when using EZMirror, there is a pronounced slow down in the tablet whereas when using an HDMI cable there is no performance penalty at all. It's a shame that Nvidia aren't taking advantage of the latter as devices that output images to a TV via an MHL port/adapter experience a considerable performance hit as the device has to work so much harder. Another negative factor here is that the Note doesn't seem able to take a charge when connected to a USB hub via an OTG cable which also limits the usefulness of the tablet as a media device connected to a TV or monitor.
To return to the original problem, my TV has an option in the settings menu to either 'just scan' or to display 16:9. The latter removes a big chunk of the bars on the left and of the screen, but it also hides part of the top and bottom of the picture, which is OK on a movie, but less so when viewing the home screen etc.

Can you share us the photo?, I'm thinking on buying one and I want it to use for playing videos on my TV.

Do you mean EZCast information?
If so, there's lots of info on YouTube that will explain/show you how it works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6_U44XUdJ0. Search for videos by EZCast themslelves - they have videos for various devices.
Bear in mind that there are two basic modes, EZCast and EzMirror. EZMirror literally mirrors everything you see on your tablet's screen (which also leads to vertical black bars on the left and right of the picture on the TV screen, just like when you use HDMI due to the differing aspect ratio of the tablet and the TV).
EZCast presents a menu on the tablet screen and then allows you to select different types of media to stream to the TV. This works well for films because it will fill the TV screen. It's less useful for streamimg music to a TV at the moment because it will only stream one song file at a time, after which you have to select another song.
If you buy one, there are different hardware versions available. Mine has 128MB of RAM. I have a feeling that those on offer that have 256MB RAM and a faster CPU will provide better streaming performance.
Hope this helps

Thanks, but I meant the vertical bands when displayed the HDMI Output on the TV

Oops, sorry. The exact size of the bands on the left and right of the TV screen will depend upon what formats the TV supports. For example one of my TVs zooms in slightly by default cropping a bit of the top and bottom of the phone or tablet's screen off (meaning you lose most of the notification bar and some of the soft keys, or whatever is at the bottom of the picture). I have another TV that allows different settings such as 'just scan' that shows all of the phone or tablet's screen. The downside of this is that on a phone/tablet with a 1280x800 resolution you have vertical black bars about an inch wide on either side of the picture on a 32" TV. I'll try and get a photo...
Unfortunately the camera on my HTC Sensation is struggling to capture the problem tonight, but here's a closeup of the right hand side of my TV with the tablet set to full screen mode, and the TV picture settings to 'just scan'. I might try and get a fuller photo the daylight tomorrow.

Gen 2 Remote Poor Response Left Click

Just was wondering if I'm just having bad luck with quality control or not, but I purchased the Gen 2 16gb Shield TVand everything is great except that on the remote, the circular up/down, left/right button doesn't work well when pressing left. There is a clear click feel and responsiveness on up, down and right but the left requires a harder press. I decided to exchange the unit and the second unit had the same issue. I'm probably just going to live with it, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
I have the same issue with my remote. I contacted the nvidia support and the are replacing mine free of charge. The new one hasn't arrived yet so I can't tell you if it works.

How to troubleshoot Android TV remote not working or How to fix an issue?

MY REMOTE IS NOT WORKING - REMOTE TESTING
In the event that your TV is not responding to your remote, this could be because of either an issue with the remote, or the TV's I/R recipient, the accompanying test will help figure out which.
On the off chance that it is an issue with the remote, this can be settled essentially with another remote, as opposed to fixes to the TV.
To start with, if you don't mind guarantee that you have new batteries in your remote.
1) If you approach an advanced camera that has a screen, or a telephone that has a camera, turn it on and coordinate the remote at the camera's focal point. On an iPhone, if it's not too much trouble utilize the forward looking camera, the back camera won't show the light.
2) While glancing through the camera, take a stab at squeezing any of the buttons that are having issues and search for a blaze of light. The glimmer is not visible to the unaided eye, and must be seen through the camera's display.
In the event that the remote is working, there will be a blaze of light visible on the finish of the remote.
On the off chance that you see a blaze of light and the remote is as yet not working accurately, or on the off chance that you see flashes while you are not squeezing any buttons, check to ensure none of the remote's buttons are trapped.
On the off chance that the remote is seeming to work effectively (lights showing up just when you press buttons) and the TV is still not responding, there might be an issue with your TV's I/R beneficiary.
In the event that no lights are showing up, and you have tried supplanting the batteries, your remote seems, by all accounts, to be broken.
Trade remotes for your TV might be accessible on our site if your guarantee period has lapsed, on the other hand, if it's not too much trouble contact our Support Team to ask about the accessibility of a substitution remote or ex-guarantee fix.
If your sheild Android TV remote is out of warranty period visit to trust worthy team by dialing 1(866)201-2001
