After attempt at installing software update to Nexus 10 tablet will not boot. Have wiped Cache and even then did a factory reset. Nothing. Google appears and then twirling colorful dots and nothing. For hours just twirling dots., Samsung and Google and Best Buy geeks says nothing they can do. No longer under warranty but very upset since tablet was working great until update. I am not very tech savvy but can anyone help or do I just have a new paperweight? Thanks for any advice.
I have not made any modifications to the tablet.
Just flash the newest factory image. Get it and the instructions to flash it from here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
yes flash the newest image
After getting a notification of the latest update I went and rebooted for the update to install but it went to the twrp recovery and nothing happens, is there a way to install the update?

as a newbie .I'm not allowed to reference your link !!
I rooted my nexus 10 using xda instructions., installed CWM. All good. I tried backup and recovery and screwed something up in recovery. Got stuck in recovery mode reboot loop. Many gyrations, no fix, so I tried factory reset. Still no fix.
I decided to install a new version of the OS using the Mantaray tar you reference above. UBS connecting and fastboot. All messages look good. Now I have the problem reported in this thread. Stuck with flying balls and no boot. Very interested in any suggestions you may have.

So you keep just boot looping into twrp, right ?
Did you try installing a custom ROM through adb or just connecting your device?
If it keeps boot looping you gotta to wipe the full storage.

No, on a normal reboot or a shutdown/restart it's fine no problems there but when I try to install the update via system update it reboots into twrp. I attach a pic of my system.

Oh I see, well, you should just flash a custom ROM or if you want to stay with official factory images, you should just follow instruction there:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
What you do need is just have fastboot executable once you are into the bootloader.
You can easily access the bootloader from twrp : shutdown > reboot into booatloader
Cool thx for your continued help :good:
The problem is due to your attempting an OTA update with a custom recovery (TWRP). You can only do OTA with stock recovery. Once you are in this situation, your easiest way out of it is to simply apply the latest factory image using "fastboot", but this will also wipe your user data so backup any photos, music, etc. before you start. You will also have to reload programs from Playstore once the new image is installed.
Hi,
I'm on this since morning today and still stuck.
I'm flashing the stock 6.0.1 image (https://github.com/motoxplay/stock/...562_LUX_RETASIA_DS_6.0.1_MPD24.107-52.xml.zip) via FASTBOOT successfully.
After the first boot, I flash the recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/orig-development/recovery-twrp-2-8-7-0-t3194656) which also goes fine.
But when I flash SuperSU (https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip) ... it gets stuck at the boot logo.
It must be 20th time I reflashed the ROM trying various things. What am I doing wrong??
Thanks
flash su2.63-3 works on 6.0.1

Hello All,
I finally decided to upgrade to Android 7.0 today. After the update was downloaded it tried to install and rebooted into my Team Win Recovery. I didnt know what to do so I just rebooted it and after the phone boots up it says "system update failed." Reason: The system update package did not match the phone. I'm not sure what to do? Can someone please advise me on the easiest way to safely update to Android 7.0 without losing everything? I'm not tech savvy at all so please help me out. Thank you all very much, I greatly appreciate it!

You can't flash the official update with TWRP. But you can try out this (only for A2017G I guess) TWRP-flashable update .
It worked for me. Just don't wipe anything before you flash the bootstack and stocksystem.

I have already wiped my dalvik cache before the normal update yesterday. Does that mean I cannot update following the guide you linked?

Dalvik cache doesn't matter if you didn't wipe system it should work. Make a backup in TWRP and then just follow the guide to get 7.1.1
I know i know i should't use the ota update having root + twrp + custom kernel.
But now i am stuck at a kind of bootloop always booting twrp. I had made a back up before even downloading ota update but recovering it does not fix the problem.
Any way to fix this ?
EDIT : UPDATE : bootloader -> start -> works!!
But now everytime it reboots it goes to recovery.
It shouldn't be a problem now since i can boot to android but if there is a way to switch default 'boot to recovery' to 'boot to android' i would be very glad to know.

This question asked many tines and has same reply,
Read this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/bootloop-to-recovery-update-t3787623
I tried to unlock my bootloader with the Asus official unlock tool. But failed to unlock then I used this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-2-laser/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-asus-unlock-app-t3405850 to unlock my bootloader and successfully unlocked my bootloader. Then I installed twrp using fastboot. I saw an error in my twrp which is -failed to mount/factory invalid argument. After all of these I installed custom rom and gapps successfully (I wiped cache after installation) then I reboot my device and my device was stuck in boot logo. I waited more than 30mins but nothing happened. No matter which rom I tried but had to face the same problem every time.
Is the twrp errors the main problem of my bootloop?
If it then how to fix it ?
Please help me I posted here with lots of hope. I hope I'll find a
good suggestion which might help me out. I don't want to stay in marshmallow anymore please help me ??.
Please forgive me for my English.

I got the same problem but error was in /asdf partition. So after wiping that my problem got solved.
You also try wiping everything except internal storage and SD card. Then install rom and gapps and check. :good:
