Hi,
I've ordered my Nexus 6p, one area I got stung on badly with my OPO was the headphones.
Does the Nexus work with iPhone headphones with a microphone? So I can use my headphones which works with my iPad
Thanks
Chris

It has the same size headphone jack and supports microphones. So I don't see why it wouldn't
Yes. I use my Bose on both and if works great. Volume doesn't work on Android but that's it.

I was wondering if the Nexus 7 supports Microphone Input via the Headphone Jack? Mainly I'd want this for the possibility of using a Square Mobile Payment Card Reader. Anybody tried using it for such a purpose yet?
EDIT: joelee100 gave me my needed clue. I'll post back with a confirmation once I get my Nexus 7.
anybody?
I plugged in my nexus s OEM ear buds which also have a mic integrated with them and the Nexus 7 recognizes the mic and the mic works for both Google now and for voip...hope that helps

Thanks! That means there is Mic Input and Square should work. Just another plus of Preordering my Nexus 7
I installed the Square app on my Nexus 7 but was unable to get any of the test swipes to work. But, maybe I wasn't being patient enough.

I tested it a bit more and still was unable to get any test swipes to register on my Nexus 7.
I retested on my Note, 4S, and iPad and it worked fine on those.

I'm thinking maybe square needs an update for jellybean. At least I hope that's all it is, because I really want to use this app on my n7
email from square
This is the email I just received. I bought a nexus 7 to replace my credit card terminal because it seemed to meet our exceed all the specs square required.
"Hello,
We are not able to support the Google Nexus 7" tablet at this time, as the headphone jack is incompatible with our card reader.
For more information on supported devices, visit [square website removed to post].
Thank you for your interest in Square.

My wife has the intuit card swipper and a htc 4g lte was told by them that the phone was too new to use the swipper. She can still type in the card info and use the app that way. Not sure it if the same with square.

I would assume the headphone jack doesn't work with a microphone, I haven't tested that yet.
edit: after testing myself and contacting Google support, it is merely a headphone jack, not a headset jack like the documentation says.
the square reader/headset mic will not work .

Bummer... Is there any other mobile card reader that doesn't use a headset jack, Bluetooth maybe?

Could we use one of those 3.5mm to microusb adapters? Just a thought.

There have been mixed reports about this. Some people confirm mics working, others don't. I doubt "some" Nexus 7's have a headset jack and the rest headphone jacks

Interesting...
I plugged a set of new Apple Ear Pods in today and the N7 received my voice through them fine in both Talkatone and easy voice recorder...
This has been kind of ... no ... really damned frustrating for me.
I bought a Nexus 7 with SIM slot for my wife for the holidays and just ASSUMED it would work with Square (she is a self-employed artist/merchant that does convention vending). We didn't discover this issue until we were past the return period.
I'm still a bit in shock. Subscribing in case more information comes out but pretty much just going to be bummed.
I'll check hers to see if a headset works when she gets home. I don't know if we've tried it.
I wonder if maybe people who have plugged in headsets have perhaps been getting their voice input via a built-in mic and just not realizing it?

That's a likely assumption seeing as there are two of them and according to iFixIt the headphone jack is a 3-pole instead of a 4-pole without any soldering to the microphone so it's physically incompatible with the square or many other card readers. I can't even do single clicks on earbuds to pause/play music with it.
Kind of a shame though as I do use the Square app, and would have been nice to swipe a card on my N7 instead of my 1st Generation iPad. (But at least my old G2 can still do it, least til it kicks the bucket).
So I tried plugging in my apple headphones into my nexus 7 and it didn't seem to go in properly..
Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks man
I was able to connect my Sennheiser over the ear headphones easily, but my cheapo Skullcandy Earbuds won't stay all the way in, and it's a bummer..... It has a smallish jack too, so its not like the case and jack press against each other...
The first day I was in the library and opened the N7 in a reading cubicle. Just to test the sound, I put in my skullcandy headphones and played a song from Google play. After a bit, I saw everyone was looking at me weirdly. Then I noticed the sound was coming out of the speakers, not the headphones.
Bottomline:
You need to really push it in. However, it's not a great deal to me. And it works fine !
Yes I was scared to push it in at first because I thought It would break, on e everything's fine

It's the return of the headphone problem from the original iPhone. Good job ASUS!
I have the soundmagic e10 M earphones + mic and the mic works perfect with this phone. Found out it works by accident after it never working with my old wildfire.
So I ask, will any headphones + mic that is apple certified work with this phone? I was under the impression it was only the HTC with beats phones but this was a nice surprise.
Any help will be great.

Not sure "all" will work, but I think most will. All headphones I have tried that are made for the iPhones have worked on the mic and answer/end side on the N4 in my case. YMMV though, depending on what you have. The only negative is that there are only a few headphones work with the forward/back or volume up and down buttons. There are apps like Jays headset app that let you map the center button by assigning a series of button presses, but I personally find it annoying because I can never remember how many presses are for volume up and down lol. And if you longpress any of the answer/end buttons, they open up google now. So it's a hit or miss but bottom line, most will work.
Any one button headphones with TRRS connector will work with Nexus 4.
OMTP jack is not compatible. (older device - Galaxy S, Sony experia 2011 series etc).
Nexus 4 needs a headset with CTIA connector. (post Galaxy S2 or 2012 series in general)

I got this one and works great.
Older ones have black rings on connector whole newer ones come with grey or white rings on 3.5mm connector.
If you want to buy in store you can use this method but I don't have any proof to support it.

Hey there, I'm looking for some decent speakers that I can take on the go. The idea is to be able to mount them with velcro in my car and be able to use them at work as well.
Any ideas?

Like for music wise? Why not use your car speaker system?
As for portable wise, I've heard of people using the Jambox. I have no idea on how good it is as I've never owned one. I believe they're $120-$150.

My car is older and I have no desire to replace the factory stereo installed. I really enjoy it, but there is no auxiliary input. And if there was a way to easily to add it I would. That's really the only reason I can't use the car speaker system.

You can just install a new dash? Ones with auxiliary ports are cheap these days, like 40 bucks.
But if not you can try blue tooth speaker? Sony has some.

check out the rocketfish bluetooth speakers, ive used mine in the car and it's loud enough even with the windows down. It's small and light enough to carry around and the battery should last you the whole day or most of it.
another alternative to use your car's speakers is a FM transmitter, Sound quality will not be that good but sound from a bluetooth speakers will not be that good either.
I ended up going with the Jabra Solemate. I'm trying it out right now and it seems to be working out pretty well so far. The sound is pretty good, and its built pretty tough.

Perhaps the jbl playup (nfc)? decent and easy

Did you check Installer.com They have lots of solutions for situations like that.
in dash and bluetooth speaker
I have a logitech z515, picked up at Target for 50$ its pretty good and you can buy in dash stereo recievers with aux for around 60 for a sony , not a cheaper brand, if you wanted to go cheap, they even have them for like 40 on amazon. Then you have bluetooth speaker and radio in your car lol .
Has anyone heard anything as far as the speaker quality?

What above said.

A single speaker, and the waterproofing won't help. Don't expect anything spectacular.
I tested this out earlier today. The speaker is just like my note 5
So it's not the rumored 1.5W speaker?

even if it was a 1.5W speaker the protective coating would diminish it a bit especially for such a small driver.
How do you figure? Note 5 isn't waterproof lol. And as for the single speaker, I think there is another speaker in the ear part at the top. 1.2w I think. And the bottom one is a 1.5w

The S7/EDGE are water proof which I was refering to.
I have asked on another thread, but I wonder for those who have tested the speakers whether you have used the HTC devices with front facing speakers, how does the s7 edge compare to them? I ask as if I was to get the S7 edge, I'd be coming from the HTC One M9+.
its like low end Skoda to high end Mercedes
