now i don't know how to explain this really, but here we go. five minutes ago, i decided to plug my hd2 headphones into my computer so i'd be able to listen to a movie. twice now, once in each ear, i've gotten SHOCKED. i thought for whatever reason, static could have charged and been stored inside the soft ear-bud covers. after being shocked inside of my right ear, i took them off (soft ear-bud covers) and put the Left ear-bud into my left ear. three minutes later, SAME THING. it seemed like it happened when there was cracking in the audio during the movie. i swapped them out, replayed the area where i heard the cracking, and wasn't shocked...with my old G1 ear-buds. i've got that really low carpet in my office and always get shocked when reaching for the doorknob, that's why i suggested static in the first place...or maybe it's just a crazy design flaw!? either way, it really did hurt and i don't know what course of action i should take. has anyone else experienced this?
rob
it's definitely the headphones. i've gotten up, walked around, sat down...and with my G1 headphones, i haven't gotten shocked once, even during the audio cracking in the movie! i guess i'll be calling tmobile.
I got shocked twice, then thought to myself,
"why am I using the stock headsets? I deserve to be shocked".

wow, thanks for your terribly pointless and stupid post. FYI, the fm radio app asks for the stock headphones to be plugged in as they double as an antenna.

come on, now. that directed at me after what HE posted? give me a break. i ask for advice and hopefully make fellow HD2 owners aware that there may be a build flaw in the headphones and these are the types of responses i get? terrible.

Yep, I'm using my pair of Sennheiser ones for radio and anything else. As general rules, for every single mobile device, stock headphones suck monkey balls anyway. At least on my Sennheiser, I have noise isolation and some basses.
it may also be your computers sound card. ive owned many headphones over the time, but the ones i tried in my computer with a creative sound card shocked me. Now i have a Lenovo laptop, and have never experienced that with any headphones...
i would try the headset in another soundcard/pc jus to be sure what it is

I do exactly the same, I just can't stand those plug thingies in my ears. And of course, the quality of the Sennheiser is another world.
I have a strange issue with it though. Whenever I use the Sennheiser the phone auto-dials somebody from my favourite contacts list. I found out that if I wiggle the connector a little I can reproduce this effect. It also seems to be a problem reported on other HTC phones.
Should be related to the 4-ring (tip-ring-ring-base) connector on the stock earphone versus the 3-rings (tip-ring-base) on the Sennheiser. But how? Or is it?
Hey there, Im wondering if it's only my set that has this problem or not. I have spare htc's and apples earphones and both of them have mic.s for hands free talking. However when I plug them in to listen to music, sound appears all fuzzed up, certain frequencies such as bass are gone and/or comes out of only one side. The only way to fix this is by holding down the play/stop buttons found on these earphones. When I hold down the button, music playbacks just fine... Had problems with my headphones jack before and had it repaired but I noticed this phenomenom before the fix as well. Can any one test this out as well?
This is a known situation, there are two different ways used to connect the four wires to the jack-plug, HTC and some others use one method, and Nokia and Samsung use the other method.
Basically this means that unless you buy a special adapter/converter, the only headphones suitable for your SGS are some aftermarket sets and earphones from a Nokia phone.
Hope that this helps.
Yeh . Look for nokia n97 headsets

But will all third party Headphones work? I guess it would be better to go for those without microphones then, and to check if it works before buying. Thanks guys and sorry if this has already been answered...
That is god damned retarded. I'll have to sit through three hours of mad banter and public displays of affection in this train because someone decided to put their audio jack wires a bit different. This should be illegal.
Headphones should with fine. It's the mike that won't work. I've used apple and phillips headphones and they work fine. If you want to use custom headphones with a mike that works I've heard that you can get a nokia adapter that connects into the phone and headphones into it that should work. Can't remember the model number sorry.
Just had a look on ebay, think it's a nokia ad-43. Think it has the mike built into it though.

Is it me or the Galaxy Note headphones are not that bad. I especially like the volume controls; makes it easier to listen to music without touching the phone.
Music sounds good. What do you guys think?

i think they are pretty good considering they came with the phone.
I just wish they were black. White makes it look kind of Appleish.
Have you guys tried making calls with the headphones? If not, would you mind trying and reporting on call quality, volume, etc.? Thanks!
i LOVED them, my favorite headset, i have better headphones but as a headset these are my fav, i also dropped a screwdriver on the cable a cut the cable on them already, heartbroken, better to have loved and lost

Oops.... my brain just infringed on at least one of their patents....
Seriously though... any comments on call quality (in and out) on the headset?
Thinking of getting a Note, quick question regarding the headset. Does it come apart above the handsfree mic so that you can connect your own buds?
If not is there a handsfree cable I can buy that would do this?
I use them over my Klipsch S4i's cause of the built in controls, and I love my S4i's.
My only complaint is that these headphones are two big for my ears... I have tried to use the smallest that was included but still too big..I Think my ears do not like earphones..

I take it they don't come apart then, you can't plug your s4i's into the mic section?
If not it looks like this set is in two pieces, any idea if they would work?

call quality is fine on both ends!
i had a samsung s2 before and it was really suck. when i get my note, i dont even bother to open it at all. until one day my apple earpiece is spoilt. and then i notice that the note earpiece comes with volume control. the sound quality is so good that the crispiness of the sound is almost perfect!!! OMG!
You cannot plug your own headphones into the samsung pair, it's solid.
Personally I think there is no bass, and for music the sound is dull.
Treble is not amazing as well, I'd cut it, and solder a female 3.5" connector, make it plug-able.
I hate them. I hate earplugs that goes in the ear, so i'm still using my HTC plugs that IMO has better bass than Samsung's.

Lol...that was a simple fix. Thanks.
Headphones
All headsets don't work for some reason even though they are 3.5 mm. I thought it was a defect and maybe it is designed poorly but some sets work and others do not even when pushed flush. I guess some may need a cheap extender to fully mount in the jack.

Had the same problem. One set of headphones worked (Sony) and the other set (Sennheiser) did not.
Looking at specs the Sennheiser headphone jack is 1/8 inch. Sony doesn't specify but looks shorter. Could this be the problem?
I can't find any info in the N10 manual except 3.5mm. Afraid to push the longer jack any further in.
Both my Sennheiser over ear and ear-bud headphones work fine on my n10. I do need to push the connector quite firmly to make sure the final click happens and it is fully seated.

Thanks for the info. Do you know the model you have or how long the jack is? I have PMX680i its a sports model that has a really good sound while allowing you to hear your surroundings. (no, I don't work out with a tablet on my arm :laugh
The over ears are HD 218s, and the buds are CX 300 II. I've not measured the jacks, but they are both the same size by eye.

So I have been using nexus 7 for past 11 months... At first the headphone jack was working fine, I was getting good sound from both the ear buds but then it stopped working nd i never really cared about it because I use headphones with my nexus 7 less. But now that I got myself a JBL J04 I wanted to watch movies with these beasts on.... So i did some digging on net.
PROBLEM: The headphone jack is not working fine, it was giving sound in only one side of headphone(left one in my case) but when plugging a speaker jack it seemed to work fine. I have used both creative speakers and mini speakers. I have used mine skullcandy earphones and also jbl headphones but sound was only coming from one side... And in jbl headphones it was coming very very low.
SOLUTION: When you open up the back cover and see the loudspeakers module... There is somewhat copper conductive part revealed under those two loud speakers, and they gets in contact with the metal of back cover, when back cover is closed. So we need to TAPE THIS REVEALED COPPER side and voila mine headphones got working like a charm. For a good reference image is attached. This worked in my case so I dnt know maybe it will work for others or not. And yeah in my case I used black electrical tape.

Ur welcome bro
I know this is a bit late but after sending my tablet out for two RMA s for this problem I thought it was fixed. It's been off warranty since the end of July and yesterday the jack started screening up again with the left ear bud not working intermittently. If you tapped it it would come on and off. So I opened it up and tried this fix and it worked great. So much for Asus customer care I just needed electrical tape.
Thank you very much.

If speakers work fine, the problem might be in the headphone jack contacts, as was in my case. One of the contacts was broken and I could hear sound only from the right earphone. So I just put something between the jack and the back cover and now everything works great!

My problem is that it will not switch to the headphones when headphones are plugged in. It stays on speakers. Before I start digging around do any of you believe it is a hardware issue? I reset the tablet completely twice - didn't work.

This post saved me a bunch of time and trial and error. I was not getting sound from my left headphone and found a small piece of plastic from packaging solved the problem. I just folded it to make it springy and tight when compressed and it just stuck to the input jack (I provided images). So when I snap the battery cover back on it pushes the headphone jack back into place. Free 5 minute fix.
