Thinking about buying a Moto X Play (considering the Marshmellow update) - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I saw in that forum that there was some performace issues and stuff.
It's better with the update ?

My wife borrowed my X Play on Marshmallow for a day and she commented that it was so slow. Told me to buy a new phone lol. My question is will the x play ever get faster through updates?

What did she use it for and slow in comparison with which phone? Surely the x play is not blazingly fast as other flagship phones but it gets the job done while having a longer battery life

Skyping with her mom, texting during the day mostly. I guess I have gotten used to the speed and she is new to the lag

Try changing the animation speed in Developer options from stock to 0.5x or simply disabled it (0)

Opening and closing apps is much faster now but scrolling speed is still slow

Using a mid range phone and expecting it to perform like flagship, I don't think it's right.
X play is smooth enough and lag free for daily use.
And although scrolling speed can't be increased or decreased although animations can be increased or decreased.

Did you read what I said previously? I'm not expecting anything. Don't put words in my mouth. I'm fine and used to the play myself

Bump

Marshmallow is much faster as lollipop. I do not have any lags also it is good at scrolling now. The update changed much for me in smoothness.

My girlfriend just bought the Moto X Play, I was going for the same but settled for the Moto x 2014 instead. She is always telling me how fast it is. She is a basic user. . browsing the web, messaging, the social apps etc. Certainly fast enough and then some. Her X Play is still on Lollipop.

Is your OPT feeling pretty slow?

Hey all,
I bought a One Plus 2 yesterday (coming from the Galaxy S6) and immediately noticed how unbearably laggy the Oxygen OS was - am I the only one experiencing this? I get a few moments of fluid animations but then things just get choppy, especially compared to the Galaxy S6. I've since put the Chinese Hydrogen version on and it seems a lot more fluid but I just feel like it should be a lot faster? I've been considering just selling it on but this phone is perfect in nearly every other regard.
I was thinking that maybe this is just how things will be until some decent updates come along? Unless I'm the only person experiencing the choppiness.. Then I suppose I should be pretty worried indeed. As a point of reference, I've also used the Moto X 2014 and Z3 Compact which both seemed considerably smoother in operation. Some input from you guys would be great, along with any tips you might have to get the most out of this amazing phone.
Thanks.
Lol coming from an s6 you think its laggy? I switched from an s6 and compared to that this is the fastest phone I've ever had
Sent from my ONE A2001 using Tapatalk
Yes it is laggy as oxygen is still on beta, but you should wait and give time as it is a beast, give some time to one plus and they will fix the issues
You did update it right? The build it comes with is as dog**** as the home button is
Just update to 2.0.2 and u'll be fine.
Sent from my ONE A2001 using XDA Free mobile app
Yup.. It usually lags when you switch to airplane mode.
Sent from my ONE A2003 using XDA Free mobile app
Phone is brand new. OxygenOS is in beta.. Let some development happen man, these specs dont lie
I updated and just got mine! Excited but it is slow. Some things up
Seems fast to me. I showed the OPT to my coworker who has an S6 Edge and he was impressed. He said it was faster than his S6. I didn't even ask him that.
Lol you obviously didn't use the fingerprint sensor to turn it on then or try to go to the home screen pressing the sensor home button. Jk
I've had several phones with fingerprint scanners and this one is by far the fastest so far and the phone is quick. Home button works great also. Maybe I just got lucky.
Yeah mine's pretty slow. I went into a phone store today and tried out the Huawei Mate 7, which on paper looks way behind the Oneplus 2, and it KILLED my OPT when opening apps.
I often get lag here and there, but this is less of a problem for me. My mane gripe is how long it takes to open an app. Like, I hit the Phone icon and it literally takes up to a second to launch. That Mate 7 was practically instant.
What gives, Oneplus?
A lot of the issues I initially had with oxygen were fixed after disabling hardware buttons, including excessive battery drain, heating up, and lag similar to what you're seeing. Maybe it has something to do with grounding? Or maybe I just got used to it :S
This phone is just not meant to be a daily driver with the frustration it brings. If you want to be less mad install cm 12.1. Makes things much better than oxygen
Try flashing OxygenOS 2.0.2 again and then factory reset. You may see a bump in speed. I personally have no quirks with the fluidity of the phone. While it does have some bugs all over the place, never once did the phone feel sluggish. But with that said, the OS does need a lot more polish to really make it feel truly complete. Right now despite all the OTAs OxygenOS still feels incomplete, or maybe its because I'm too used to the versatility of a CM based ROM.
It's slow for about a minute after boot but then things are really fast

Actually, the problem is because 2 google apps are using your CPU way too much. Disable the sheets and the slides apps in settings and you should be fine. CPU usage dropped by 40% in cpu-z after disabling these apps.
Update:- actually the CPU now has really less usage after disabling (5% after disabling.).

For those complaining about the slow app launching, download a 3rd party launcher and you'll see instantly the difference in app launching. I prefer google now launcher to maintain that stock feel.

You see, I saw some lag and I went to developer options>show CPU usage and the most of the CPU usage came from the sheets and slides apps.

Phone is laggy even when cold

Has anybody else found this. For example, unlocking the phone. Or turning the alarm off. Or pulling down the notification shade. Very laggy - 5 to 10 seconds to respond sometimes. My z3y was MUCH more responsive.

Thank you for your suggestions. I use Nova launcher. And no live wallpapers - I find them an unnecessary use of resources.

Well, then you could try the stock launcher. If the lag is gone, then it's definitely caused by Nova in the first place. I've seen this before on other phones.

Dunno, for me, Nova seemed to actually speed things up. Being fast is one of its selling points, after all.
I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed with the Z3+. I previously owned a z2, z3 and z3 tablet compact and all of those were far more responsive and less laggy than the z3+. Hell even my Moto X 2014 puts the z3+ to shame. I love Sony products but have been massively put off them after the shoddy Z3+, this is not even mentioning the fact that most other xperia phones, including the z1, have the 5.1 update yet there's no sign of it for the z3+. A bit of a rant but its a poor show by Sony.

I agree. It's a real shame. I'm gonna try a full reset tonight and see if that helps any. I don't have much installed on the phone. To be honest, it was much more responsive when I first got it, so I'm hoping this helps. I'll keep you posted.

I found my Z3+ to be unacceptably laggy as well. I moved to the One Plus Two phone last week and could not be happier. I may try the Z5 when it's released as I prefer the smaller 5.2" screen size versus the OP2 5.5" screen.
I had previously been using the Z2 with CM 12.1 nightlies but could not deal with the poor phone calling quality.

Does what overheat; the Z3+? Not at all since the latest firmware was released; .251.
The Z3+ does lag for me while scrolling left/right or up/down even when the Phone is NOT hot. There can be no denial of this fact. My Opinion.
Note: All this is even after I did a full clean wipe, de-bloated my phone heavily, and disabled ALL google services save for a few mandatory ones.

Nova makes the phone way faster. Set scroll and animation speed to faster-than-light.
I've been so busy developing stuff and reflashing my phone that I've not had the chance to use it in daily use. That said, it feels faster than my Galaxy Note 4. using .251 firmware, it kicks the Galaxy's ass on an Antutu Benchmark, and that's even with what we know about Samsung cooking benchmarks on their devices. It got 53.5K to the Note 4's 48.3K

53.5 vs 48.3 doesn't seem like that big a jump considering the z3+ is 64 bit.
The annoying thing for me is lag when unlocking , or using WhatsApp, or the camera. Just takes ages (5-10 seconds) to respond.

Yeah I notice it in play store, more than on other phones and I tested side by side...I think emui favors battery life for general usage over high performance (even in performance mode)

I noticed the EMUI 5 beta has helped in this. Before, Google Plus was horrible but now it's pretty smooth. I've enjoyed using my phone a lot more.

Google plus is smooth !! Then it is having great performance.
As a habitual thing, I won't open it because of its slowness. I would hide it anywhere so that I wont open it even accidentally.
I enabled performance mode in battery options and I noticed it's much smoother. Google now would have e micro stutters and now it's as smooth as silk
Yea it's not as smooth as my Nexus 5x, but the battery life is nearly 100% more. So in my opinion worth the sacrifice.

Anyone seen MKBHD's recent pixel 2 xl video? ??

So when i seen the thumbnail and title i had to watch it and jeez at least from my point of view dude was right! I was running completely stock no Root no kernel just stock at the time and i didn't realize my phone had slowed down at a noticeable rate from when i first bought the phone Back in December until i watched that video! Obviously the simple solution was to scale down animations right? So i did that and bam phone was running at full speed again BUT my issue was that for a phone this expensive, timely updates and patches, made by Google, and a stock Android experience one shouldn't have to go through anything like that to keep their phone running at full speed right? But anyway after watching that i decided to give the final beta a try and oh man I fell deeply in love with it especially the gestures. I do think the recent cards seriously need to be optimized much better because trying to swipe through them to get back to a specific app a few pages back can be really annoying. Then i got the notification for the official pie release so of course i upgraded. The battery life, speed, and fluidity is what stood out to me the most! It was perfect! Now I've been using only one custom kernel while on Oreo and that's Flash's so i decided to give that a try on Android pie and the speed and battery life still improved! From the day i got this phone I've never experienced this type of speed and battery life before. It's just freaking amazing and made me fall in love with my pixel again lol. Shout out to flash and the squad!
Any thoughts on your experiences?
I haven't run into any of the lag issues, but that's probably because I run a custom ROM/kernel. I did watch some videos of the lag and that would drive me insane!
Read an article yesterday that a few P2XL's out there are experiencing this and google is replacing the phones. Apparently it's related to a hardware issue.

I saw that too. From what I gleaned, the lag must make the phone practically unusable in order to qualify for a replacement.

General lag

My min CPU frequency keeps changing to the max frequency possible and for some reason it dramatically reduces my device's performance. Causes visible lag in general browsing. This used to happen on my OnePlus 3T aswell. What could be the culprit?

Min frequency to the lowest one possible (for all clusters).
What firmware , model are you using? Do you a custom ROM installed?
I've never had a single touch of lag in any app or the OS.
I'm on pure stock 23BA 11
My lag occurs whenever I press the home button from either an app or internet. I have about at least a one second lag. Pure stock phone with latest software update.
Anyone else have this problem?
I only notice lag in Chrome browser on a lot of websites....
YES! So I got a IN2025 in, let is restore all my stuff but didn't switch to it because dual-sim isn't working yet. Had it a week and a half using it while on Wifi at home. I wiped it and sent it back for a refund today. Felt no faster than my OP7P, and if anything felt slower at times. Not worth the 1K price premium at all. And this is coming from a guy who can't stand to keep a phone longer than a year!! . Now what to do with the cases and screen protectors I already bought

Lol what do you mean it felt no faster?
It's a more powerful CPU / GPU by some way.
But in regards to general navigation round the OS? No it's not any faster as the OnePlus 7 is as fast as if can be, there is no more speed to be had?
If that's your attitude to the best phone you can buy now I'm kind of glad you have returned it.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say? I have a OP7P as my DD,and I had a OP8P on hand as well. Both running on Wifi. Was it faster than my OP7P at most things, yes but barely. Not $999 worth of extra speed IMO. Launching the games I play and the apps I use, if I hit the icon at the same time....they both opened almost identically at the same time. Plus the 8P had more "stuttering" and random lag......maybe it was a bad one, not sure, but it seemed to just have lag issues, like the originator of this post stays......
