I notice my firestick make a tiny video playback glitch probably every 4 or 5 seconds. You have to look but it is there and most noticeable on moving scenes. I have Comcast blast 75 and stick connected to 5ghz WiFi which per my phone is 30-40 mbps.
Kodi was previously installed when purchased and settings show 2gb free. Sometimes movies buffer, I let download prior to watching to see if it would help the a I've glitch but it didn't.

Happens on mine too, but I do my best to ignore it. It happened on a few other devices I've run it on as well. Wish I could help, but at least you know you're not alone.
Fire sticks tend to skip, freeze more then fire tv's . Have you cleared cache ? also try a different source or lower quality . Also, sometime when my kids are on youtube, and playing on steam or xbox or whatever, sometimes i get choked up, and I have 150/150 fios .
I haven't cleared the cache, thank you glad to know just not me. I'll try the cache, would removing add ons I don't need help any?

I found out a while ago (from XDA) that it has 1GB RAM but 512mb is reserved for the GPU meaning it only really has 512mb to play around with.
I run a AFTVG1 downstairs and AFTVS upstairs running the same skin setup, SQL connections and shared resources.
The G1 runs perfectly on the 2GB but the AFTVS just cant cope.
Even using Confluence and very few addons, even on full factory reset and base Kodi install I can easily drop to 20MB free RAM and watch Kodi grind to a halt.
A lot of it is the Amazon crap running in the background draining resources and nothing to do with your WiFi or net speed (I'm 200mb cable).
If I hadnt had got it for £19 it would have gone back and replaced with something like a RiPi2 or spent a little bit more and got a cheap crappy Android TV box, they would run a lot better than the AFTVS!
Buffer FIX
Buffering sucks, but guess what? I have a fix for you!
Install ares wizard.
go to system, file manager, then go to add source on left pane.
press NONE
type in exactly:
http://www.areswizard.co.uk/zip/
then go press done.
Choose name for media then select done and press ok.
Go back to main menu bar and press SYSTEM
go down to addons
install from zip file
then select the one you named.
Then select the ares wizard script .26 at this time
If you get errors, go into repo folder and select ares project then go into modules folder and select both. you will see the addons becoming enabled.
Then final select the script again.
Then go to programs from main menu
select ares wizard
let it load, you may need to force close a few times (kodi)
Then when go in to programs and launch it
then go to tweaks
select advanced settings
click next, generate settings, then apply settings buttons. It will tell you to restart kodi
R\Force close kodi
then BAM no more buffering! You can also install custom kodi builds with this puppy

what this wizard does is create an xml to adjust your available RAM and use it towards kodi. This is not another zero cache program. This wizard has custom builds you can install as well. I suggest looking into it

Hello all. I have a T-Mobile MyTouch3G running the latest Cyanogen Mod 4.2.12.2 and I'm running into some issues with alittle lag. Every time I'm running an app for awhile the press the home button I keep getting "home activity force close errors". Or when i go back to the home screen it almost seems like it has to boot back up and load every shortcut back to my screen. Also once I wake the phone up from sleep "like say when i receive a text and i go to read it" its very laggy and takes about 20 seconds for it to start running smooth again.
I rarely have many apps running usually just power manager, gmail, and messaging. I have 210 MB of space available in my internal memory.
I've tried factory reset. Different versions of cyanogen but all to no avail.
I love this phone, by far one of the best phones I've ever owned. So if anybody has any idears that'd be great!
I think I would have taken a full wipe.
boot into recovery, and full wipe the flash CyanogenMod ROM again.
Try going to ur app drawer and click spare parts. Go all the way to the bottom and check the "put home in memory" -something like that-. I had a similar problem and that helped me with 4.2.11.1
Hi,
I had this problem on my Vodafone UK Magic with 4.2.12.2 and it seems that UNchecking "keep home in memory" helps (source attached link)
"In the several threads above, solutions/fixes include disabling 'keep home
in memory', enabling compcache, and/or enabling swap. "
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmo...Priority Version Owner Summary Stars Modified
Even though I'm saying the exact opposite of the poster before me, I hope this helps.
DT
All options will work for you. But if you join them all its even better. Locks home in memory with spare parts and enable compcashe. You might also run fix_permissions. In your terminal type in:
su
fix_permissions
Enjoy
Problem Fixed!
thanks for all the input. I should have got on here along time ago instead of trying to fiddle with it myself. Two thumbs up xda community!

What in particular is slow?
If scrolling home screens is slow, or icons are taking time to show up (or refresh) try a different launcher than the default. Popular ones lately have been Go Launcher, ADW.Launcher, and Zeam.
Are you using the most recent firmware update? (2.0.71 has sped the systems up quite a bit from the older versions)
http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=us&lang=en&#firm
Are you using an SD card? (If so try adding a file named .nomedia to the card to reduce the gallery from spending time scanning).
Did you install Google Voice? (If not, you should refrain from it since, it is dragging down a lot of systems).
What speed (in settings) do you have your processor set to run. (The most responsive is the Overdrive setting).
If you want to know how to speed your system up you'll need to tell us what is slow about it.
The overall system is getting really unresponsive and what bugs me the most is when I try to install any app through .apk the device fails on me and freezes. Basically when I try to instal any app it freezez when I try to use an app it freezes most of the time
I am using the latest update with the middle setting for power but overdrive doesn't make a big difference. I am running adw launcher which helped and is really good compared to the stock launcher.
The device freezes a lot and thats not because of me having a lot of apps when I get home I will try reinstalling the update keeping the device on overdrive for a long time and will report back

i would do a reset. it really is not as bad as it sounds.
market will tie your purchases to your account, just power off, hold vol-down and power up. choose reset, and then reset device( i do & storage). make sure firmware is 2.0.71, and install gapps5. then just watch what you install, and uninstall things you don't use.
Yeah, it sounds like you need to do a full reinitialization and then reinstall the newest firmware.
My A70 was literally not usable after I tried to upgrade. It was freezing every minute. After a reinstall, everything works great.
And don't forget to set your CPU to overdrive. Really doesn't affect battery too much, and the speed is noticeable.
I turned off the animated live wallpaper. Made my 101 noticable faster.
Deinstall VoiceSearch
You should deinstall the updates of VoiceSearch ....
thanks guys I did a full reinitiolization (not sure bout spelling) and now it is working better, i chose not to install the market and just use applanet for what i want to download, working good now but we'll see how it ends up after a few days of use.
thanks guys you were really helpfull.
dont know if the contents of your memory were wiped with your full reinitialization but i have noticed that every time i install an app i get the little pop up saying that the device is updating its library. this would explain why it would appear to grind to a halt when you install anything

the contents of my memory card did get wiped and i've noticed the less things in the internal memory the better. this is because archos did not partition the internal memory for the users the should have left maybe 2gb for the system and apps and the rest for us to use like what is on the galaxy s, that is what mae the device not lag.

I had the same issue. I had a photo app syncing online and it downloaded 30,000 thumbnails. That with the screwy "update multimedia library" really brought the 70IT to a halt. It would "sync" for about 1 hour leaving about 75% battery left.
I reinitialized and installed gapps4archos v5 with only the market and gmail (no voice or maps) and it's flying now. I wish I could disable the multimedia library sync permanently.
I've had this issue ever since I got my N4 phone in mid December.
YouTube seems to work fine on WiFi.
However, if I'm on 3G it plays ok but then locks up after about 5 mins or so when watching a longer video.
It also locks up if I try to start a video from a particular time, the video just doesnt start playing & the pause icon appears on the screen. The back key doesnt respond & I get the message that YouTube isnt responding do I want to close it. If I say yes then my phone starts working ok again & Youtube menus & searches are ok but the videos wont play until I reboot the phone - I just get the 'waiting' circle thing.
I surely cant be the only one that has this problem!
Try various Kernals & ROMs and all have this issue. Also tried uninstalling YouTube & reinstalling it & this doesnt help!
Anyone know why this happens?
Thanks.

When not on wifi is the youtube app trying to play in HD or SD mode? If it's continually trying to play HD even on full bars, I usually just switch to SD mode and plays fine afterwards.
The lock up occurs on SD & HD.
Just tried it on SD for a 30 minute video. Started Video (no problem) & immediatly tapped the video to about 10 minutes in (time is irrelevant) & YouTube froze emmidately without playing any more footage: the play symbol pops up, then the pause symbol, then the play symbol again - then it locks up.
Once this occur I need to restart the phone to get YouTube to work again. Even force closing the app, clearing the cache & uninstalling/reinstalling doesnt make it work again. Only a reboot.
This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME on 3G. Kinda makes it useless when trying to watch a long Video or if I need to skip to a certain point in the Video
What the hell is causing this!!
AW: YouTube still freezes & locks up on 3G
This problem occours on my phone too, on wifi mostly. It blocks the whole phone for a few seconds.

I had this problem before, the way to fix it is go clear the cache for the youtube app, then the videos will not buffer as often anymore. you can also download a cache cleaner, which will make it easier for you to clear cache instead of going in the app menu everytime.
FIXED - Youtube Freezing
I have been having YouTube Freezing issues (like thousands of others) for a while now. The Temporary Fix would include going to Settings>Application>Manage Application, then Clear Data, Clear Cache and Force Close. This proved very frustrating for both me and my HTC Jetstream Tablet (running on Android Honeycomb v3.1). I could only assume that there were compatibility issues with the pre-installed Stock YouTube app and the subsequent Updates
Now on to the Solution
Requirements
a) Root Access to your Tab
b) A File Manager that provides System Access (I used File Manager HD for Tablet)
I
Here goes -
1) Open File Manager and go to System/app, then open File Manager Setting and Enable Root Access
2) Tap and hold the YouTube.apk for a few seconds, then select Delete from the dropdown menu.
3) Search the Internet for a trusted YouTube.apk file (I used one fron xda.developers - 4.4.11 v5b) and download/save the file to sd/Download
4) Cut the file from where you saved it and move/paste it to System/app. You can cut/paste by using the dropdown menu or the Taskbar
5) Now go back to the File Manager and Disable the Root Access.
6) Restart the Tablet to allow for the configuration.
7) After Tab reboots, go to File Manager > System > app, then tap the installed YouTube.apk icon and Install same
CONGRATULATIONS, now you can watch YouTube in all its HD and HQ glory to your hearts' content, without Freezing Issues
With YouTube loading from the System Registry, it loads faster with improved stability
The Ultimate Guide to Speeding Up Androidby BeastSpencer
Have any tips? Let me know!
REQUIREMENTS:
- your phone
- a brain
- (optional) root access
THESE STEPS CAN BE IN A RANDOM ORDER, I AM ADDING THEM AS I GO!
As for some quick speeding up, you can download the attached apk and install it (android 4.3 and up). It makes use of TRIM support, which trims your device of old crap on a schedule to help your device run faster.
FIRST THINGS FIRST! If you have ART, use it! The AOT Compiler makes booting up apps way quicker! Keep in mind enabling it with cause some apps to crash (ie Xposed).
First up, I recommend downloading Clean Master and SD Maid to clean up your phone from all the crap. Run every task in both apps, then you can uninstall them. Next, go get Greenify and RAM Booster from the Play Store. In Greenify, go ahead and hibernate ALL the apps. (don't worry, nothing will become obsolete.) In RAM Booster, go ahead and grant it root access and enable it.
Next, go into the My Files app on your phone (or use a different file manager) and clean out ALL empty folders, as Android gets slowed down with having so many. You can also get rid of old files that you never use. It makes browsing through quicker, too.
Turn off ALL the unused features on your phone except for the necessities, such as mobile data, wifi, sync, from the notification bar. Now, go into your app manager and clean out all the apps that you don't use anymore or haven't used in a while.
OPTIONAL: Get a faster launcher such as Nova Prime or GNL and enable the "stay in memory feature" if it has one. Also on the launcher, try to limit the amount of widgets and apps you have on your home screen, and try to use a static wallpaper instead of a live one.
Next, if you have a custom recovery, go ahead and wipe the cache. On first boot, your device will take longer to boot up and apps will take longer to open, but on second boot it will be BUTTERY smooth.
Now, download ROM TOOLBOX and first go to DNS Changer. Click on Google DNS and apply it. Your data speeds should be a bit faster now. Also, try "Android Browser" or "Naked Browser" from the Play Store for faster browsing speeds.
Next, go to build.prop tweaks, click the capacitive menu key, click Edit, then edit or add these tweaks:
ro.config.hw_quickpoweron=true
persist.sys.shutdown.mode=hibernate
dev.bootcomplete=0
ro.ril.power_collapse=1
pm.sleep_mode=1
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=10
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=10
ro.ril.hsupa.category=5
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.rill.enable.a53=1
debug.sf.hw=1
persist.sys.purgeable_assets=1
Then, your device should boot faster, have quicker internet, and be smoother.
If you can, install a custom kernel optimized for speed.
Now, install Xposed Framework from dl.xposed.info then install Wanam Xposed from Google Play. Activate it and reboot. Then, go to System in Wanam and uncheck "Enable Touchwiz DVFS" and uncheck "Scrolling Cache." Next Install BootManager and activate it in Xposed. Then check ALL the apps. Press the capacitive menu key and click on settings. Then click on enable fastboot. Your phone should boot way faster now and be smoother at scrolling.
Next, get Safestrap if you don't have it already and flash Walter.White's Debloater. It will get rid of all the crap and free up RAM. If you think it gets rid of too much, then use my light version.
Go back into ROM Toolbox and go to CPU control and slide both meters all the way up. WARNING: this may cause your phone to warm up and drain battery quicker.
Now, go into Settings, go to the 4th tab and scroll down to About Device. Click on that and scroll down to Build Number. Then tap that 7 times.
Go back, and now click on developer options, then scroll down to the 3 boxes with "animation scale" and set them to .5x or off.
Then go into Account settings and go into each account and disable the sync options you don't need.
Go to the Google Play store and download App Cache Cleaner and run it, then uninstall it if you want.
That's about it folks! If you have any suggestions or other speed tweaks, let me know. - Beast

no, i think as long as u have sync enabled with them ur fine
sync settings will wake the apps when needed
i greenify gmail and i still get my XDA emails etc
greenify just kills them running in the background when not needed
i dont know if its the same for u tho
and yes for the folders, it also makes navigating through your phone way quicker without having to go through all those useless lol
Amazing guide. Thanks a lot...

I have downloaded the XDA omni rom for A500:
Freshly built Android 4.4.2 ROM based on Omnirom KitKat !
"The Team 'IconiaHD' is proud to present a new ROM for your Acer A500 or A501 tablet.
This small team is composed of:
- HenrikE: A200 owner, responsible for an unofficial CM-10.2 build for the A200
- Doume: A200 owner, experienced linux developer
- macia10: A501 owner, tester"
The omni rom installs easily using TWRP ver 2.7 by Thor. Once I followed the OP recommendations all stages in the installation were clear. The rom runs well after the second and third boot. I even used ART. Here is my take so far: rom is fast and smooth. Browsers load pages fast, even high image content sites (CNN). Videos on youtube work flawlessly, wifi signal is very strong. I was able to load all my apps and have them run well. A very nice and responsive rom on the acer a500. Google play store works right off the bat. A few minor issues though: google music play app has a bit of chopping of the music playback. Netflix did not work for me as the app would force closed on me. I tried the netflixfix as recommended by the OP but it did not work either ( I am waiting for the next fix as suggested by the OP). Other than those two minor issues I can't wait to try the updated versions of this omni rom as it adds a new life to this acer a500. I am very happy to see that there are developers who continue to get value for us by implementing optimized roms on the a500. Thank you for your great work.:good::good::good::good:

Further Update on XDA OMNI for Acer a500 (unofficial)
I have been running this rom for the past few weeks. Here is what I have noticed. I hope that this will help further the development of the rom. I am attaching the logcat information.
a). Recent update from Google Play Music fixed the audio glitches I was having before.
b). Chrome Browser runs well has problems playing videos, causes browser FC (flash issue?). Lightening Browser works well.
c). Occasional window change results in zoomed icons in the apps section.
d). Netflix still FCs.
e). Network Location works on my Acer A500.
f). Youtube works without any issues.

Thanks for the report! Interesting that network location works for you. It seems to work sometimes and sometimes not, would be nice to figure out why..
The latest versions of netflix don't work, even with the fix applied. Try version 3.1.2 instead: http://gsmandroidapps.com/download-netflix-3-1-2-build-1142-apk/
I haven't seen the problem with zoomed icons, does it happen often?

You're welcome. The Netflix 3-1-2 build works after installing and subsequently rebooting! Thank you. The zoomed icons happens infrequently and occurs only when I go into the apps windows from the home screen. It seems to be more of a lag issue when switching windows. I installed Apex launcher and the lag has decreased significantly. In addition, the zoomed icons are no longer present.... so far. I have decided to use Dalvik runtime as the Art function is not compatible with some of my apps.

omni rom for acer A501 by HenriKe
I have tried to flash this ROM several times andi keep having issues. I am on Acer 501.
Op still says to use the 4-27 build for 501 as the 4-29 build has issues.
Issues I have at multiple force reboots. (Kernel panics). Also if data is enabled then WiFi will not connect. I know I should have saved the last_kmsg but just sipped and restored previous ROM.
Still waiting for the fixed 501 version to be posted.
As stated here = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52709444&postcount=109
Some tweaks that make this Rom smooth.
I would like to suggest the following tweaks that will make your experience with this rom smoother. Make sure you have a complete backup of your a500 current system. Use these at your own risk.
Before installing rom:
1. Wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, "real format" data (very important).
Installation:
2. Install rom, install mini-gapps, install super user
3. Boot up rom. Set up Wifi, Set up Google play services.
4. Reboot.
5. Make a complete back of your new omni rom.
Tweaking:
6. Use "interactive"; "sio", "set on boot"
7. Set cpu to max to 1200 Mhz and min to 456 Mhz
8. Reboot
9. Install Nova or ADW launcher. Have at least 3 screen windows . Set look and field to “faster than light” (Nova)
10. Install "prop builder" editor
11. Edit the prop file as follows (see attached image):
dalvik.vm.heapmaxfree
12m
dalvik.vm.heapstartsize
12m
12. Reboot.
13. Run a benchmark app and compare. I got an Antutu score of 9036 (see attached image) up from 7700. Overall system is more responsive.
14. If all goes well, make another backup with a different name.
Good Luck and enjoy.

I think you have a typo. dalvik.vm.heapsize cannot be set to 12m or it won't boot. Maybe you mean from 384mb to 128mb ?

Thanks for the feedback. I made the corrections and edited my previous post to reflect what the attached image of the buildprop file shows.
dalvik.vm.heapmaxfree
12m
dalvik.vm.heapstartsize
12m

Problem waking up
Hi,
I installed this ROM, and everything seems to be working well, expect waking the device from sleep.
It sometimes happens, after the tablet is not used for a while and is sleeping, that the power led is on (white), but the screen is black. If you try to wake the device by pushing the power button, nothing seems to happen. The only option is to power it down by holding the power button, and powering up again. Very annoying!
The device is not docked and not connected to mains power.
I disabled daydreaming, and it seems to happen less frequently, but not 100% sure.
I suspect it has something to do with the tab waking up by itself to do some syncing, and somehow getting stuck.
Any ideas?
How can I try to debug this?
Any help appreciated!
You have the infamous Sleep of Death (SOD). It is/was a common problem with certain a500 motherboards. I don't have the SOD issues.
You should contact the XDA iconia HD development team at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705989
I am still a junior member and I don't have privilege to post on their blog, yet.
You may try these (make a back up of you current omni rom first):
1. Ensure that the wifi is kept on during sleep. Go to Advanced settings in the wifi options. Click on check box to set scanning always available.
2. Edit the buildprop file to set the wifi_supplicant_scan_interval to 0 sec.
Cons... decrease in battery life. May not be a significant amount.
If the above settings don't work for you, check the links below.

All the best.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm also still junior, so I can't post there either
I never had any SOD issues before, not with the stock ICS and the 3 other ROMs I tried before.
Putting scanning always available didn't solve it, but haven't tried the buildprop yet.
Problem is that is is very intermittent: sometimes the tab runs for about 3 days without hanging, then it happens within the hour...

The Iconia Team HD just posted an update for their ROM. You may try that one and see how it goes. Another developer also posted another a500 omni ROM version 4.4.4. light. Try both and see which one works best for you.

Updating to 4.4.4 seems to have helped: haven't had the SoD issue since!

Awesome. I noticed also that sometimes the screen does not come on with one single press of the power button (most of the times it does) when the Acer a500 is asleep. Sometimes, you just have to watch the power button and press until the white light comes on and the screen comes alive (there is no reboot, it just takes you back to the lock screen). I use to think that it was an sod but all is well.

I'm seeing the same thing: the tab won't come alive and I think "****, an SoD again", so I press long to force a power off, and after a few seconds, the screen comes alive! Weird...
For the rest: awesome ROM, much better than the previous one I tried (don't remember exactly which one it was)!

Just had my recovered A500 setup as you mentioned... Yes, it's running OK.
However, AnTuTu (v 5.7.1) just keep failing...after it ran up to around 75-76 %. What ver. of AnTutu are your running (since I notice your screen looks slightly different from mine)?
I found this ROM to be the most stable ROMS available for the A500.
