I have downloaded the XDA omni rom for A500:
Freshly built Android 4.4.2 ROM based on Omnirom KitKat !
"The Team 'IconiaHD' is proud to present a new ROM for your Acer A500 or A501 tablet.
This small team is composed of:
- HenrikE: A200 owner, responsible for an unofficial CM-10.2 build for the A200
- Doume: A200 owner, experienced linux developer
- macia10: A501 owner, tester"
The omni rom installs easily using TWRP ver 2.7 by Thor. Once I followed the OP recommendations all stages in the installation were clear. The rom runs well after the second and third boot. I even used ART. Here is my take so far: rom is fast and smooth. Browsers load pages fast, even high image content sites (CNN). Videos on youtube work flawlessly, wifi signal is very strong. I was able to load all my apps and have them run well. A very nice and responsive rom on the acer a500. Google play store works right off the bat. A few minor issues though: google music play app has a bit of chopping of the music playback. Netflix did not work for me as the app would force closed on me. I tried the netflixfix as recommended by the OP but it did not work either ( I am waiting for the next fix as suggested by the OP). Other than those two minor issues I can't wait to try the updated versions of this omni rom as it adds a new life to this acer a500. I am very happy to see that there are developers who continue to get value for us by implementing optimized roms on the a500. Thank you for your great work.:good::good::good::good:

Anyone running this on the N7100?

I'm filing a report with the moderators to put this into device-specific forums, as you're issuing a report against an unofficial build that, to my knowledge, no one involved with the bringup has attempted to get merged officially. (I'll check with the merge guys tonight on that...)

Further Update on XDA OMNI for Acer a500 (unofficial)
I have been running this rom for the past few weeks. Here is what I have noticed. I hope that this will help further the development of the rom. I am attaching the logcat information.
a). Recent update from Google Play Music fixed the audio glitches I was having before.
b). Chrome Browser runs well has problems playing videos, causes browser FC (flash issue?). Lightening Browser works well.
c). Occasional window change results in zoomed icons in the apps section.
d). Netflix still FCs.
e). Network Location works on my Acer A500.
f). Youtube works without any issues.

Thanks for the report! Interesting that network location works for you. It seems to work sometimes and sometimes not, would be nice to figure out why..
The latest versions of netflix don't work, even with the fix applied. Try version 3.1.2 instead: http://gsmandroidapps.com/download-netflix-3-1-2-build-1142-apk/
I haven't seen the problem with zoomed icons, does it happen often?

You're welcome. The Netflix 3-1-2 build works after installing and subsequently rebooting! Thank you. The zoomed icons happens infrequently and occurs only when I go into the apps windows from the home screen. It seems to be more of a lag issue when switching windows. I installed Apex launcher and the lag has decreased significantly. In addition, the zoomed icons are no longer present.... so far. I have decided to use Dalvik runtime as the Art function is not compatible with some of my apps.

omni rom for acer A501 by HenriKe
I have tried to flash this ROM several times andi keep having issues. I am on Acer 501.
Op still says to use the 4-27 build for 501 as the 4-29 build has issues.
Issues I have at multiple force reboots. (Kernel panics). Also if data is enabled then WiFi will not connect. I know I should have saved the last_kmsg but just sipped and restored previous ROM.
Still waiting for the fixed 501 version to be posted.
As stated here = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52709444&postcount=109
Some tweaks that make this Rom smooth.
I would like to suggest the following tweaks that will make your experience with this rom smoother. Make sure you have a complete backup of your a500 current system. Use these at your own risk.
Before installing rom:
1. Wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, "real format" data (very important).
Installation:
2. Install rom, install mini-gapps, install super user
3. Boot up rom. Set up Wifi, Set up Google play services.
4. Reboot.
5. Make a complete back of your new omni rom.
Tweaking:
6. Use "interactive"; "sio", "set on boot"
7. Set cpu to max to 1200 Mhz and min to 456 Mhz
8. Reboot
9. Install Nova or ADW launcher. Have at least 3 screen windows . Set look and field to “faster than light” (Nova)
10. Install "prop builder" editor
11. Edit the prop file as follows (see attached image):
dalvik.vm.heapmaxfree
12m
dalvik.vm.heapstartsize
12m
12. Reboot.
13. Run a benchmark app and compare. I got an Antutu score of 9036 (see attached image) up from 7700. Overall system is more responsive.
14. If all goes well, make another backup with a different name.
Good Luck and enjoy.

I think you have a typo. dalvik.vm.heapsize cannot be set to 12m or it won't boot. Maybe you mean from 384mb to 128mb ?

Problem waking up
Hi,
I installed this ROM, and everything seems to be working well, expect waking the device from sleep.
It sometimes happens, after the tablet is not used for a while and is sleeping, that the power led is on (white), but the screen is black. If you try to wake the device by pushing the power button, nothing seems to happen. The only option is to power it down by holding the power button, and powering up again. Very annoying!
The device is not docked and not connected to mains power.
I disabled daydreaming, and it seems to happen less frequently, but not 100% sure.
I suspect it has something to do with the tab waking up by itself to do some syncing, and somehow getting stuck.
Any ideas?
How can I try to debug this?
Any help appreciated!
You have the infamous Sleep of Death (SOD). It is/was a common problem with certain a500 motherboards. I don't have the SOD issues.
You should contact the XDA iconia HD development team at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705989
I am still a junior member and I don't have privilege to post on their blog, yet.
You may try these (make a back up of you current omni rom first):
1. Ensure that the wifi is kept on during sleep. Go to Advanced settings in the wifi options. Click on check box to set scanning always available.
2. Edit the buildprop file to set the wifi_supplicant_scan_interval to 0 sec.
Cons... decrease in battery life. May not be a significant amount.
If the above settings don't work for you, check the links below.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm also still junior, so I can't post there either
I never had any SOD issues before, not with the stock ICS and the 3 other ROMs I tried before.
Putting scanning always available didn't solve it, but haven't tried the buildprop yet.
Problem is that is is very intermittent: sometimes the tab runs for about 3 days without hanging, then it happens within the hour...

The Iconia Team HD just posted an update for their ROM. You may try that one and see how it goes. Another developer also posted another a500 omni ROM version 4.4.4. light. Try both and see which one works best for you.

Awesome. I noticed also that sometimes the screen does not come on with one single press of the power button (most of the times it does) when the Acer a500 is asleep. Sometimes, you just have to watch the power button and press until the white light comes on and the screen comes alive (there is no reboot, it just takes you back to the lock screen). I use to think that it was an sod but all is well.

I'm seeing the same thing: the tab won't come alive and I think "****, an SoD again", so I press long to force a power off, and after a few seconds, the screen comes alive! Weird...
For the rest: awesome ROM, much better than the previous one I tried (don't remember exactly which one it was)!

Just had my recovered A500 setup as you mentioned... Yes, it's running OK.
However, AnTuTu (v 5.7.1) just keep failing...after it ran up to around 75-76 %. What ver. of AnTutu are your running (since I notice your screen looks slightly different from mine)?
I found this ROM to be the most stable ROMS available for the A500.

UPDATED 18-FEB-2011
==========================
beta 06
==========================
update to gingerbread 2.3.2 - Compiled from AOSP, CyanogenMod, other online sources and I wrote/tweaked/swore a bit too. Coding with gingerbread is like playing a nasty game of whack-a-mole.
now compiling with updated toolchain optimized for tegra / cortex-A9 processors
includes Clemsyn's kernel (Pershoot's works too)
includes gapps and working 3D maps
removed most of the overt CyanogenMod graphics and branding to avoid confusion with their official builds
reverted memory naming: internal storage is emmc, removable sd-card is sdcard. Sorry for the flip but this is the future for tablets. Apps should be reading the mount points properly regardless of the device type or naming scheme.
USB connection (via UMS) mounts to /sdcard and no longer makes the fs unstable (I hope). If you don't have a removable SD card then ADB still mounts to internal storage.
bunch of behind-the-scenes code and framework optimizations for stability, smoothness. Still not as fast as froyo but waaaay better than beta05. YMMV.
Special thanks to the real devs and gurus: clemsyn, gojimi, pershoot, rothnic, roebeet
This will probably be near the end of my involvement with the 2.3 codebase. Tablets like this really need the architectural changes in honeycomb (3.X+) especially real SMP. Also when looking for performance tweaks I keep running face-first into the fact that the PROPRIETARY nvidia drivers {spit on the floor} make their own superchip look like a Z80 on a hot day (yes, it's a Zilog reference. yes, I'm old). Also... There's only one of me.
INSTALLING: READ CAREFULLY AND OBEY.
save the bittrix-beta...zip to your internal memory
use CM .8 and install the zip
when the install finishes, stay in CM... wipe data/factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik, stay in CM...
install the zip again. Failure to do this means wifi won't work unless you flash a standalone Clemsyn or Pershoot gingerbread kernel.
reboot.
USE NOTES:
First boot may ask what startup to proceed with - either will do - i pick "startup wizard" (it doesn't run the wizard, but you have to pick one...)
The system will feel a bit slow the first time as the system is busy parsing/precompiling the java files. Things get much faster as you use it.
Google app framework is installed. Your best install for the individual apps is to load them yourself from the market. The first-time app picker is hit/miss.
Market won't show installed apps until you buy one.
Camera is borked for now.
This should be considered as an experimental build, with all the usual disclaimers about turning your tablet to slag, crossing the streams, starting a game of global thermonuclear war, etc. It's not an official CM release. Editing the source and messing with the module packaging feels like I just leaned a bit too far down the rabbit hole. Please be patient with me, I have a day job.
Changelog:
19Jan initial release - Compilation from 19Jan CM7 git
21Jan beta02 - new merges, updated kernel, fixed: USB, Angry Birds
22Jan beta03 - newest CM7 base plus first source edits! framework text now displays "tablet" instead of "phone" in spots, fixed camera orientation. Set screen dpi to 120 (match actual panel) from 160.
23Jan beta04 - x-y screen metrics and scaling. Some text should appear visibly sharper now if rendered correctly. Removed cell & phone system files. Internal memory is now /sdcard, removable memory is now /sdext.
PC should now see both internal partitions over USB cable. pull-down menu (drag down the top statusbar) has soft buttons to toggle wifi, bluetooth, location, and sound (CM7 feature).
24Jan beta05 - fixed mount points, changed framebuffer timing to 70Hz, no more cell signal indicator, UI fixes, added "never" screen timeout option, enabled dock settings (can't test, I don't have one, YMMV)
18-Feb beta06 - update to 2.3.2.
without further ado...

Updated kernel: Clemsyn now supports gingerbread with his kernel builds. Support for most TLA and FLA is included. In the event of issues you can just reflash the bittrix beta. They're at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895825
Updated kernel: Pershoot is cooking up some amazing kernel goodness - I think I saw eye of newt and a stick of dynamite in one of the .conf files his thread is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903505 - he provides the extra functionality modules as separate files, so the more adventurous among you can roll-your-own (so to speak).
Official CM7 Betas: GoJimi's official CM7 beta is going strong. It's mostly from the same codebase and will give you the same look and feel. If you're at all squeamish about trying new builds I recommend using it instead. it's at post#18 in this topic... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10733279&postcount=18

Downloading now!
And I was about to go to sleep.....
Hey thanks. Any way you can provide known issues? Is wifi, bluetooth, the g sensor, camera, adobe flash etc working? Also, do you have quadrant scores and screen shots?
Got it flashed. Seems VERY fast.
So far I've noticed the following:
1. Camera is sideways
2. No audio on speakers until I plug/unplug headphones.
3. Phone APKs appear to be loaded? I'm showing a little cell phone signal meter.
4. Wifi works fine.
(more to follow)

1. Also noticed that camera orientation is incorrect.
2. Micro SD properly mounted in /sdcard now.
3. Internal storage is now in /emmc
4. Settings properly shows storage for internal and microsd
5. Can't mount storage on pc
6. Can confirm that 3d Maps is working.
7. Haven't been able to get Quadrant to run completely
8. Wasn't able to restore Angry Birds from Titanium Backup
9. No fancy power off screen animation
First time using Cyanogen Mod, so some of this may already be known.
Legend, thanks!! Giving this a crack now
Edit: As stated in the first post the drive mappings are different - external SD is /sdcard and internal sd is /emmc
This has implications for Titanium Backup when you try to restore your USER DATA (user data only, don't restore system data)
Copy the contents of /emmc/titaniumbackup to /sdcard/titaniumbackup using Root Explorer or similar.
Titanium will now see all of your old backups.
Rockplayer wont play movies in Hardware Decode mode. Software decode mode is jerky.
Coming from VEGAn 5.1 I find this rom a bit laggy
Flash not working on the sites I tested - www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/
It's a great first effort and still worth booting up to see it. Might go back to TnT Lite for a bit

Here goes... My first (successful) attempt at compiling from source. This is Cyanogen Mod 7.0.0RC0 compiled from the latest sources as of this evening. It's a real-live taste of gingerbread This uses Bekit's 2.6.32.9 kernel and brings things up to Android 2.3.1
Use CM .8, wipe data & cache, and install as update. If you're installing over TnT Lite: failure to wipe the user data will give you never-ending tap n touch keyboard FCs.
You'll need to install the market (see below).

ISSUES: Angry Birds won't install, sound may need plug/unplug or widget toggle, no file transfer to PC via USB (won't leave debug mode)...

Regarding the Angry Birds not installing issue - something in the crypto loop device probably isn't working for apps that try to install to SD. That's what Android tries to put on /sdcard (or /emmc in this case? not sure how this gets handled with the changed mount points). Could also be crap in /emmc (specifically, in the .secure or .android_secure, whatever it's called directory) from a prior ROM install that needs to be deleted. Or using a kernel that's not compiled with all the right options (make sure you're using a kernel that's known good from other installs - clemsyn or pershoot's kernels, or the kernel rothnic compiled for Vegan 5.1beta should all be good).
Also Roebeet, Rothnic and Gojii all dealt with the sound issues on TNT Lite and Vegan, so might be worth asking them about how they resolved that.
Not sure about the USB sticking in debug mode issue, you'll have to dig around and figure that one out.
reminds me very much of zpad clean 3, which i love but has auto brightness missing.
however, it seems as if cifs isnt built in. is there a cifs.ko i can insmod in this rom?

Thanks! Knowing where to look is my biggest problem. I really only started this so I could make my USB GPS work in the car, and expect the real devs will be along shortly with stuff that's not so experimental. This is literally the first working OS I've ever compiled
I have installed it and very nice. I am coming from vegan and robeet is really nice and will help. they are working on a new platform right now as well.

LOL ROE i was just talking about you..... Yeah its pretty nice Iam at work so i cant play with it but so much but can you make it faster quad scores like 1045. the gapp functions is sweet as well. Plays movies a little choppy but i have to see once i load everything up. USB/sdcard2 detection is good money.
The update.zip is completely ripped out, which is actually quite nice from a modding perspective.
Some of the reported issues are things gojimi / rothnic had dealt with on the VEGAn build, so the fixes might be similar. As for me, I'm all about packaging. Right now I just want to look at this and get a feel for it.
I'm assuming that the big issue is lack of hardware acceleration? I'll know for sure once I test it - this is again something that gojimi wanted to work on once he had his Gingerbread rig setup.
EDIT: Yep, video acceleration is not there. Sounds like this is all still "alpha-code" stuff, so keep that in mind. Just nice to see this next step, but definitely not a replacement for your Froyo build (yet).
Wow bit Great work!!
Cant wait until some of the issues are ironed out which I am sure will be done very quickly with the dev team we have working on this device!
any screen shot or something? Eager minds are waiting..
Congrats on Compiling Your First ROM
Congrats on Compiling Your First ROM! I love seeing others trying there hand at compiling. You can learn a great deal about the Android system and how it operates. That being said. This is not an official release of Cyanogen Mod 7.0.0. We should be careful when posting our non Official releases of CM7 as it can cause confusion for the uninitiated.
Here is a link to the Official BETA 1. http://vegantab.gojimi.com/download/update-cm-7.0.0-Beta1-Harmony-signed.zip
This Official ROM still has alot of the same issues as the original ROM but is using the proper kernel, etc. This is brought to you by Bekit and Scepterr and the rest of CM development team (myself included now... though I haven't done anything as of yet.... just got my Development Machine up and running).
Also for the time being until I can get the fix into CM7 this will fix the speakers so they are on at boot. Install it like you would any other app. There is no launcher link to this app... it starts at boot fixes audio and then kills itself till the next boot. http://vegantab.gojimi.com/download/audiofix.apk
Again... Congrats to the original poster for compiling cm7! hopefully we will see you join in on our development discussions!

One thing you could start looking at is merging in the performance pack considering that cyanogenmod is at ~2400 quadrant without it. I am curious if there would be any change if you can get it working with CM.

Yep, I start throwing stuff in there to see what sticks.
There's no /lib/hw section -- I wonder if that's a 2.3 change? EDIT: Never mind, brain fart.
Hi,
Since I'm not yet able to post directly into the main thread, I'll post some opinions and experiences here.
The original Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364411
Current setup:
ROM: NEXUS MV 2.12.25
Kernel: GLaDOS 2.5 CFS - 3.0.8
So far, great ROM at all.
No reboots, no crashing apps...
But there are some things a bit annoying:
- On the NSTools, the "backlight dimmer" function only disables the capacitive buttons after the selected time, doesn't change anything in the display (I really don't know if it's a bug or not);
- Most of the times (not always) when I press the button to lock screen, after the animation the screen "flashes" and only after that I hear the "click" sound, but I think it's more a kernel issue than a ROM issue;
- The Assasin's Creed Revelations Game doesn't load the Main Menu completely, only the title appears and I can't select anything. I've reinstalled it and the problem still occurs, but I don't know if it's a ROM problem or some crazy incompatibility.
And also I'd like to send my suggestions:
- I've used another ROM (wich I really don't remember exactly what was) with a launcher where there was an option to prevent the apps menu to slide into the widgets, it would be nice to have it here too... (don't know if it can be implemented on ROM or only on the Launcher)
- I miss an option to enable/disable 3G data connection on the top menu of the slider, like CM7.
I can't think on any other thing to add for now...
The ROM is really fast and stable, thumbs up to MarkVis
Keep the good work!
I've noticed some serious problems after updated to NovaLauncher beta 7. Whatsapp hangs many times during use and system says "low RAM" when I try to send pictures via whatsapp.
I've changed back to beta 5 and still had some hangs and crashes.
I really don't know what's the relation between Nova Launcher and Whatsapp, but I'll try the new GLaDOS v.2.8 to see if I have any changes.

Also doesn't work with AOSP+ ROM, same infinite loop...

This is the intended functionality, to turn off the capacitive buttons LEDs off, not the backlight/SAMOLED for the whole display

Common problem with the brief flash while locking, most people have it and i'd imagine some a bit worse than others. The click and similar sounds on my Nexus S have always lagged to some extent, nothing has changed for me (though i turn all of this off anyway).
- The Assasin's Creed Revelations Game doesn't load the Main Menu completely, only the title appears and I can't select anything. I've reinstalled it and the problem still occurs, but I don't know if it's a ROM problem or some crazy incompatibility.
Lots of apps are still not updated (or won't be updated) for ICS, something which we may have little to no control over. This sounds like one such issue.
And also I'd like to send my suggestions:

Pretty sure some launcher replacement apps can do that, and roms like CM9 alpha probably offer this.
- I miss an option to enable/disable 3G data connection on the top menu of the slider, like CM7.
Extended Controls and Widgetsoid provide this functionality in nearly the same way as CM7/CM9
I can't think on any other thing to add for now...

Guess those ROMs have some modifications which break that stock framework file, the same one works perfectly on my stock ICS. I'm sure the updated file will be added into some ROMs as standard soon.

Yeah, I've noticed some things of your answer after a good time reading... hehehe
And at some part of the main threads (need to search again), somebody posted about how to end the screen flash after pressing the lock button, I've just didn't tested yet.
But thanks for the reply, I keep reading the threads and testing almost every new ROMs released to see if the deep idle correction is already implemented or not hehehe
That's just a bluetooth fix though, if you turn bluetooth off deepidle should work perfectly fine. This would only really be a problem for you if you use a bluetooth earpiece, headset or car loudspeaker.
I always keep bluetooth and gps disabled unless I need them, but even this way I only got the TOP=ON deep idle, not TOP=OFF.
That's why I was trying that fix
I'm starting to think that's the GTalk's camera thing...
Post updated to reflect current version.
OK.. I'm mainly posting this here because my PC is too low to post in the dev thread.. and I think its best to leave that thread to dev discussion...
First impressions:
Installs quite smoothly and pretty fast.
My install method (in case its needed later)
- Back up and copy to pc
- Complete wipe to stock gb. Root gb and install cwm
- Copy ressurection 8.1 zip to SD card
- Reboot to cwm
- Format data/cache, dalvic cache, system and battery stats
- Reboot to cwm
- Select resurrection 8.1 zip and install. Takes about 5 min
- Reboot to recovery and factory reset (probably not needed but did it to be safe)
- Reboot normally and let system boot up. Takes 3-5 min on first boot
Now on to the fun stuff... on first boot I set up language, clock wifi account etc.
I selected and only use nova... I like it better than trebuchet.
Gmail notification crashes Google accounts right off the bat. This is persistent throughout 3 installs. Seems to work fine after initial crash.
Once SD card scanning and such finishes, i disable fast dormancy (*#*#9900#*#* for menu) thenI reboot normally.
Open market, works fine.. install some primary apps... titanium backup & pro key.. better battery stats, root explorer and LCD density monitor pro.
Set dpi to 160 to give me better screen real estate.. then reboot normally
I'm about 11.5 hours on battery and 83% battery with light to moderate use.. I disable mobile data stuff unless I need it, and generally keep wifi active most of the time..
Overall most things run very smoothly. Some apps don't seem to close properly when killed but I assume its due to those apps.
System does get laggy if a lot of apps are open and sleeping.. I use ATK pretty often to keep things smooth...
Problems I've run in to so far...
This one is pretty big I think... when using flashlight from notification panel, if I leave it on until it times out, my phone completely freezes and I have to long power press to reboot or remove battery to get system rebooted. This is persistent and replicated every time I tried.
Gmail app crashes about 30% of the time. Seems completely random. I'v disabled Gmail notification due to this.. (doesn't crash google accounts like above, just the gmail app)
When holding phone I can feel a very very faint vibration coming from the back side up near the camera.. it pulses about once every 2 seconds. You have to very lightly touch the phone to feel it.. like barely touching it. Not sure if its just mine but its very noticeable if you hold it right. Not sure what's causing this.. doesn't seem to affect anything and phone isn't overheating so I can't give more info...
Random reboots are something everyone is aware of so not commenting there. Nova does hang sometimes for 5-10 seconds. Probably due to this being a dev release and such things are expected.
I'll update more if/when I run in to other issues that people haven't really commented on...

android.acore process keep FC..really disturbing..
it bcoz of auto sync and i hope someone have a fix on this
I think v8.2 is the best among Westcripts ROMs. because of the least FC.
V.8.3
Flashed since yesterday , very stable , no FC's at all, however there is an USB problem , PC won't recognise the devised the way it was in previous versions. Nevertheless I believe it's a ICS bug as I found same behaviour in other Roms as well.
Not bad so far using 8.3
I noticed in his dev post he said that official ICS doesn't have blue coloured wifi/signal bars but I've used my friends nexus & his definitely has blue coloured wifi/signal bars when in use.
Everything else seems pretty smooth at the moment.
Looks like this problem with blue bars has been resolved in 8.4 Currently downloading (check change log).
Not being funny, but is there not a thread in the Development section to discuss this rom, surely creating another, just fragments the chefs build

Downloading/Installing 8.4 now
SMe too.. I have flashed the new version and it seems fine. I haven't checked the GPS yet. What I want from this rom is
T9 dialer in aosp theme
Full screen call id like aosp
Aosp boot

Well actually, that thread is supposed to be for development discussion only; not for general Q&A 'how do I do this or that' like it has been. Which means, if people actually adhered to the rules, using this thread for all the 'HALP' posts would likely make development a lot easier for those working on this particular project. The less spam he has to sift through, the more actual development related posts he can focus on.
Not to mention, as I stated in the OP of this thread, I wasn't able to post my bugs there because of my post count.. So i posted them here, along with some other info (like how to install) about the release.
If only everyone who tried to play forum police actually knew what the dev forums are supposed to be for........

Do any of u have the issue with notifications having a 'grey background'? I've had this since 8.3.
Also how can I change back to the stock bootanimation?
Thanks.

No issue with the notifications that I've seen so far on 8.4
To get the Samsung boot animation back, do the following:
if you have 8.3 or an earlier version, extract a copy then navigate to extracted file > system > media
copy bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to your sd card
in root explorer, navigate to your sd card > hit menu and multi select. Select the above to files then click copy/move.
Navigate to /system/media > mount R/W > paste.
Remove bootanimation.zip
set back to R/O and reboot phone.

Temporary fix posted by kevjef420:
go to market and install these three apps. ex dialer, ex dialer ics theme and ics adw theme by kovdev.
set the ex dialer as your main dialer in dock. open setting for ex dialer and select ics theme. then long click on the ex dialer icon in your dock and click edit and select adw theme pack and then find the ics blue phone icon.
now you have a very functional t9 dialer that is very similar to the miui dialer and it works great. I am very happy with the results. this is a good fix untill somebody comes up with a t9 fix for asop dialer.
I've flashed 8.5 and set language to German but somehow it's a mix of German and English!?!
Anybody with same problem or similar?
Navigation from Google Maps keeps force closing everytime i have GPS signal. Maps works fine. What could it be?
Thanks in advance!
v. 8.6
Just installed 8.6, really fast and smooth. Hour in use, no more process stopped.
I am not sure why but in one app's browser and in stock Android file browser I get unusual wide slider. It was normal on 8.4, but changed on 8.5.

Hello everybody...XD
I've been trying the "new" port of Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS), from the following topic:
[DEV][WIP] Ice Cream Sandwich Port (AOSP/CM9)
And after some weeks of dayly usage of build 4 with Update 1 i've decided to make a review of it.
The original post has a list of working and not working features, so first of all i'm going to comment and complete the ROM issues:
Bluetooth: It's not possible even to turn it on, so if you really use the bluetooth, forget it.
Wifi AP: The native tool doesn't work at all. The ROM includes the app Wifi-Tether, through this app you are able to turn on the Wifi-AP, other devices can see and connect but that's all, you can't actually use the internet .
Calendar: In the raw ROM it's not possible to syncronize your google calendar account, it can be solved by installing the GAPPS: link GAPPS...Thanks Halco (it also fixes a google+ app issue)
Camera(Photo): You can took photos but you can see them only after they are saved, through the gallery app, i mean the camera app has no live preview of the photo, only a black screen.
Camera(Video): You can't record videos period.
Videos: You can't watch videos, even youtube videos, youtube crashes when it attempts to reproduce the video.
Games: Forget every application which demands high processing .
Issues I've faced during usage:
Sometimes the phone crashes when you remove the power cable;
You cannot natively sync your facebook contacts (I've used this appfacebook contact-Sync.=P);
Sometimes all of a sudden the phone freezes, and you need to reebot it ;
It can take a bit to open the App Draw if you join the Apps and Widget Tabs, if you face this slowness go to Settings->Laucher->App Draw and uncheck Join with Apps;
The Data Usage (a native tool that keeps a track of your data usage) doesn't work;
Those were all the problems i had with this ROM, but all the other amazing Ice Cream Sandwich features are fully operative, so if you just like me don't use those missing tools go ahead it is a legendary SO with dozen of little features that make all the difference, all with an smooth interface...XD
Well this review is my attempt of a useful way to say thank you to the Developers...

i've just installed...soon I post my experience
actually you should use latest openFIMG update with arakmars G3mod kernel. it improves overall performance and data usage feature works with the new kernel.
general assumption: when doing a review you might want to say some positive stuff about the ROM as you only said which features don't work. overall performance is good on ICS though trebuchet launcher consumes a lot of CPU power (but it's version 0.1, so there will be improvements anyway). there's no word on battery life, too, which is quite good for ICS.
[edit:] oops I was to slow
Good review, but to many problems,i will instal it in the future,ICS is amazing,
I like to add some more bugs

I like to add some more bugs,
- During the call when you press any key to interact with IVR the phone call goes to mute.
- Phone became very slow when you using is continuously.
A lot of faults but not much said about the features that are working so just thought I would go a bit further....
Widgets in appdraw
You can now view all widgets in the app draw without having to add them to the home screen, this is a staple feature of ICS and has been ported beautifully, it gives you a grid size in the draw too so you can see sizes.
Folders on homescreens
You can pile apps ontop of eachother to create folders so you can have all your messaging apps (whatsapp, fbmessenger, smmsmms) in one place. just click on it and it will open the folder to make your choice. it makes finding things quickly very simple, especially if you have alot of apps.
Apex Launcher
Apex launcher is a replacement launcher for trebuchet and helps run the new OS butter smooth. it also a little more customisable and user friendly and runs the best on this port. if you want fast and smooth, download it and push it to system/app for all functions
notification bar
the notification pull down bar on the port is alot more customisable than anything on GB or earlier OS's. add a weather option to it for a really sexy look.
Once installing the new gapps, they work absolutely fine, still a few syncing issues but all in all a decent attempt, the calendar especially is cleaner and more user friendly than previous builds.
extended power menu is working brilliantly, can go straight into download or recovery mode which i believe is now touch screen if i remember correctly... (please correct if wrong) and connecting to wifi is fast and reliable. There are many more things that really do show a huge amount of promise in this build, it is clear that given a little time and help with resources, these dev's are going to pull off what i personally didnt think possible. ICS ON G3!! D
Did some testing
I tested a view tastes of CM9. Was quite happy with the latest builds, however discovered a small issue that makes it a bit difficult to operate. I will describe it, hope this helps the developers.
First: Wifi, data is all working quite well, calender worked as I needed.
After flashing the rom CM9 systems work fine for about a day, after that when the phone goes into sleep you can wake it up, however the digitizer does not show any sign of life.
The screen however is fully functional, buttons operate.
After some random button pressing the digitizer migt start working, sometimes a reboot is the only solution.
However after a reboot sometimes it operates for half an hour and shows up problems with the digitizer again. I had this on both the G3 phones I owe (use one for testing).
Why it operates the first day after flashing without a problem is a little weird.
For the moment I'm back on Dutchmod 5.3

Hi all. Your android solution may be here. I have installed most of the recent android builds available. The below build from konstakang has worked and for me has a good functionality and minimal crashes so far.
http://konstakang.com/devices/rpi3/CM14.1/
I have tried the more recent Oreo 15.1 build but this one has a better display performance. There is a bug with not being able to change the wallpaper but will check with konstakang how to get working.
I tried the build before looking into over clocking but a revisit greatly improved performance and less lag by editing config.txt. Accessed config.txt from a root search via Nautilus after flashing the downloaded image via etcher. Only added
force_turbo=1 #Voids Warranty!
boot_delay=1 #helps to avoid sdcard corruption when force_turbo is enabled.
I didn’t go any further with over clocking as this seems to make the difference. Not seen the CPU temp more than 70c yet. Check out the below link.
https://haydenjames.io/raspberry-pi-3-overclock/
Finally to get things up and running no need for the play store at all so I wouldn’t even bother. It only causes major crashes and Aptoide is sufficient. I have root access from the settings menu and have downloaded quick root reboot. Chrome and Showbox along with mx player. All working. CPUx gives stats such as core temp. Will be able to get terminal access also from app download. The media apps do seem to shutdown occasionally but i hope a wifi dongle upgrade add-on will sort this out.
http://en.aptoide.com
Hope this helps someone and let me know if have the same or different luck. Big up to the developers and website authors!
I tried the 8-10-17 build, and I could any apps I installed would crash immediately. I could not get the resolution to fit my TV screen either after changing resolutions in the boot config. Have you ran into any issues like this?
I had problems with older builds from the same source and others. Even paid for one from Exton but he's a rip off merchant. Try this one that I had in the op.
http://konstakang.com/devices/rpi3/CM14.1/
Read the FAQ about root access and download quick reboot from Aptoide.
As I said it works reasonably well. Try the over clocking and apps from Aptoide. Also reboot a couple times I've read makes a difference with things crashing. If you find an app continuously crashes then uninstall and try different one.
My TV displays fine. 49inch 4k. I guess if yours doesn't from first boot then could Google for the correct config.txt script. This newer build seems to detect the TV resolution but don't quote me on that.
I wouldn't go for the newer konstakang Oreo build as was laggy but of course give it a go if you like. Konstakang builds seem to be the best on the net so far and I've tried loads since the new year. See what the next one is like as well as he's pretty up on current development.
is this a stretch img?
Not sure what you mean by stretch?
I'm guessing this is also for the RPi 3B+?
This was done on the pi3b. I don't know if it's works on the newest model.
