I am looking for a list of bootloader versions that you have seen for the 5X, if you know of the bootloader versions and the builds that they came with, it will be greatly appreciated. We are working on bundling bootloader updates in an OTA and require some help with researching how Google does it on this device.
I have seen 2 different versions. The first version was included in the first 4 nexus factory bullhead 6.0 mdb08x (x=changing letter each version).
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a7e9fdmmsjzswae/bootloader-bullhead-bhz10i.img?dl=0
Now the second version has changed from bootloader version bhz10i to bhz10k and is included in the last two 6.0.1 versions and this is the last january to date bullhead factory image mmb29p. Both 6.0 and 6.0.1 have a identical size but someone should check out then with a hex editor and see what the microscopic change was...

Don't forget bhz10m for march on-wards but the bootloader like the radio is not rom dependent like the vendor is.

Actually, the bootloader is a huge part of the ROM, it is where your encryption keys and other bits are stored, if you don't update bootloader you can be leaving your device open to some risk/vulnerabilities. https://source.android.com/security/trusty/

Correct but you are not required to update it like the vendor is all I was saying.
I'm definitely in the camp of applying all files if they are updated.

Thanks for pointing to Trusty. However as a build result for generic-arm64 I get only lk.bin. How does is fit to the bootloader.img, where we have few partitions: sbl1, tz, rpm, aboot, pmic, hyp, keymaster, cmnlib, sdi, imgdata?

Bootloader is not open source iirc, the trusty portion you are building is kernel side that just supports the other parts.

Could someone with the original Japanese version of the Fx0/LGL25, not the unlocked international version, dump some partitions for me? I'd love a full dump, minus EFS surely, but just the aboot, boot, factory, laf, modem, recovery partitions would be cool.
A dump from the original shipped firmware from Dec. 2014 would also be nice.
Thanks!

Any idea for what device the image ATHENE_AMZ_MPJ24.139-64_65_cid50_amz.tgz on https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=s...les&flid=72578 is meant ?

Maybe Amazon?
I appreciate everybody's help. However I can't tell if the the correct firmware listed is for US XT1644 FIRMWARE. I see I have the correct build. I have as of yet not unlocked my device. However I want to load my own backup all my images using dd command except data. Upload and post links for the United States build, as I just don't see nothing. Any help to the stock build United States build XT1644 would be great? Thanks
Also when unlocking the my device is there any issues I will run into, off the top of your heads?

9 is the latest firmware for the US model. im not sure what the very bottom one "harpia" is for?
I have bought mine unlocked and it is "retus". It has the MPJ 24.139-48 fw. Radio is M8952_70009.08.03.45R ATHENE_RETUSA_CUST.
If I check the update it says it's up-to-date.

yup but .9 is the latest. it has fixes for battery and the phone. i flashed it via fastboot on my XT6144 and it works great.
Well, the -49 (not 9) it's not to be found on Moto US website or OTA, it just appeared here like magic and the change log (supposedly) here. So I am not sure about it's provenience and that the fixes are not a placebo.
Anyway, I understand the "itch" to install it. Because I am so tempted myself
LE: Well, I did it. Flashed the MJP24.139-49 on my XT1644, I am restoring the apps now from backup.
Are these TWRP flashable or fastboot?
Yes, fastboot is avail after you unlock the bootloader on Motorola site (loosing the warranty).
I have booted into TWRP to root (SU systemless method), but didn't actually flash it (because I don't plan to switch to CM at this point).

I'm already on CM but there's the bug preventing me from receiving calls unless I turn off LTE. I'd prefer to not lose root and don't have access to a PC, so if I can wipe and flash this in TWRP, that would be perfect.
No, you can't, you need the standard recovery to get back to stock. Then you can root as I said.
As for CM13, I had used it (beta and after that nightlies) on one of my previous devices (Asus, based on Snapdragon 615, 64 bit, 3GB RAM)... but it was too unstable to use as a daily phone. Always something to be "fixed" and very often something else was breaking. Disappointed...
Security Patch Level
Can someone who has flashed the -49 build confirm what the security patch level is? Just wondering if it's the same update India and Europe received OTA.

XT1524, sorry
Got this too but couldn't install it because my Bootloader is unlocked.
It says Fingerprint mismatch in recovery console log after it tries to install.
I forgot what exactly stopped it so i tried anyway LOL
Although mine is the XT1527 From Telus Canada CID 14
I captured the blur package too if someone knows how to patch it to install.
But.. i have Squid's kernel running and i am fairly certain that would over-write his kernel.
I posted here to let people know it's out.
I looked for a Firmware.zip for the version but couldn't find one.. yet.
Who ever is making them needs to do one up for the Telus version 24.71.4.en.ca

Yes you can but you have to reflash whole stock firmware (the currently installed one) available for your device
It worked for me earlier when upgrading from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 then to 6.0
If you OTA update your device in the state it is now (that's twrp+squid kernel) it might end up hard-bricking the device

Yup.. i posted the wrong thing earlier.. it has nothing to do with the bootloader.
I was running Marshmallow on my XT1527 with the unlocked bootloader and Squid's TWRP + Kernel and SuperSU + Custom Bootlogo / Animation.
So what i did was restore all the stuff stock then the OTA update installed fine.
I already had the firmware from when i downloaded it here a year ago.
THEN..
I thought hey know what ? Since i already made a TWRP back up.. lets use it !
After the OTA update was back on i started putting the custom stuff back on..
then i went into TWRP and restored only the DATA partition.. bingo had all my app's + settings still
Still running great and stable and yeah it was December 2016 patch level.
No idea what volte is but i think it was just an update for security.
I am currently fighting with rooting this update.
I just installed this
XT1527_SURNIA_RETCA-TELUS_6.0_MPI24.71-4_cid14_subsidy-TELUS_CFC.xml.zip
( OTA after reflash to 6.0 )
I am putting my info and trials HERE
Thanks for the info. Mine didn't pop up the update, but checked and there it is.

I know this thread is a bit dated but I just searched and found it, as I was curious what the difference in the file names where. Mine is a g5s plus, but it would still pertain to my curiosity. The file I'm looking at are nps and npss.
Thankyou for your simplistic and straight forward answer acejavelin. It clears things up good.
I didn't want to download an india version of the rom, so this helped me a lot, ty ty!
My wife has moto g5plus reteu device. I looked into "About Phone"
She has android 7.0 with August 2017 patch.
This is not the latest. Am i right?
I was trying to search for latest update but it says its latest.
If not, how can i manually update it.
Is it possible to download the latest patch as zip and flash it with stock recovery.
Thanks
Has your device been tampered with (unlocked, reflashed stock) before? If you're fully stock, that should be the latest version. I don't know what's the current version for your software channel though, I'm on RETUS.
Npns25.137-93-4 january is the latest for EU.
Normally it will be available in the updater in settings: "about phone".

As Knutselmaaster said that the latest is the January patch, that must mean that you either didn't flash the correct firmware for your country, or something went wrong with flashing. Reboot into your bootloader and check if your software status says "Official."

Alright, that's a good sign. I can't really help you too much since I don't have a RETEU device. I'd look into finding the correct build number for RETEU, find the firmware file, then flash the firmware and test your luck.
I'll hook up into this thread, as my stock software status says modified. Does:
1. Flashing TWRP
2. Flashing Magisk
3. Solving service and 4G problem by not erasing modemsts
influence the software status? I have all above, but I'd like to get OTA somehow. Now I'm with november's security update.

As far as I recall, the firmwares released for EU were:
NPN25.137-33 (Jan 2017) > NPNS25.137-33-5 (May 2017) > NPNS25.137-33-11 (Aug 2017) > NPN25.137-93 (Nov 2017) > NPNS25.137-93-4 (Jan 2018). Brackets indicate the associated security patch, not necessarily when they were released.
Hopefully one of those firmware is on your wife's device, from what you've mentioned, the likely candidate is NPNS25.137-33-11.

1)Flashable on locked bootloaders - if it was modified, then the bootloader would block you from flashing and/or booting. We've seen users being able to flash this okay:https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75703702&postcount=22
2)The description text file mentions 'release-keys', so this firmware is likely signed with Motorola's cryptographic keys.
3)Users appear to have no issues with this build. Bear in mind this build (NPNS25.137-93-4) is mainly for EU (retEU/retGB), US (retUS) and Asia (retAPAC) devices as seen from OTA updates, you may flash this build onto devices from other retail software channels but you may not receive future OTA updates.
