Install APK in recovery mode - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to install an APK file to a Verizon galaxy S5 with OK3 in recovery mode? maybe with ADB....
Yeah pretty sure this is a very noob question but I had to ask...
you may wonder why he wants to do that?.. well my stupid phone I got from Ebay is locked in the samsung account screen.. I know that using an OTG cable can install an APK but I don't have one so I was wondering if there is a method to do it.
Many thanks

adb push
If that plan fails, just flash a recovery image using Odin.
If you don't know what any of that means, no problem. Just start reading up here in the forums.

Questions About the Dev Editon VZW S5

I was thinking of going ahead an ordering the Dev S5, but how easy is it to root a dev edition phone.
I've never owned a dev edition phone, so would it be as simple as downloading something from the app store or adb fastboot a custom recovery, then flash a root zip? Also is the bootloader already unlocked or do they just make it where you can unlock it, but it still comes locked at first? I'm just trying to figure out what the steps would be when the phone arrives to get it rooted.
Does the anyone know if Asurion would cover the phone? When you activate it, does it just show up as a Galaxy S5 or something different?
Also for anyone wanting to buy the Dev S5, you can just sell your normal S5 on ebay, and the get the Dev S5 for like $50 more, at least that's what I did.

Root is easy as it comes already bootloader unlocked. It is unlocked at the factory. To root, basically flash Odin image of a supported custom recovery (you can try Philz Touch recovery - as long as it supports the S5) or download an app from the play store which can flash a custom recovery as long as the S5 is supported. Then reboot into your Custom recovery and flash this zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip
Bingo, you are now rooted!!!
Once you accomplish root, the next step you should immediately take is dd all partitions!!! I mean all!! Make a back up of all partitions!!! There are no official ODIN images available for the DevS4 or DevS5 - all images have come from the community. We have rooted our devices and backed up the partitions in case something goes wrong and we need to recover. Again, back up system, cache, radio, modem, aboot, recovery, etc etc etc....all!
Request: Once the Developer Editions are in hand and rooted. Would someone be willing to dd all of the partitions and host them? I have a DevS4 and being that I will never see an update to KitKat, I would be interested in seeing if I can upgrade using the partitions from the DevS5 (all but ABOOT).

Remote Root Services

A service has said that they can remotely root my ATT Galaxy S4 that is on version I337UCUFNC1. Has anybody used them before? Is it safe ti use them? I don't like the idea of somebody accessing my phone with all the private info it contains.
Thank you,
Jeff

if you can't root it yourself using towelroot, then you dont need a rooted phone. it doesn't even require a pc, its all done on your phone. i was able to hook up my elevator guy quicker than he could get me to the 7th floor.

I have never heard of towelroot. Can you provide some more info on it?
I had a S3 that I Manually rooted, but the locked bootloader on the S4 has scared me from doing it.
Any info would be great!
Thanks!

I was able to use Towelroot to get root access. I used the root checker app and a file manger to verify this.
I do have (2) questions if anyone can help:
1) Even after rooting, I could not delete any bloatware. Any tips to do this?
2) Is it now safe to install a custom recovery like TWRP? Or will this conflict with the Locked Boot Loader?
Thank you,
Jeff

1) Make sure you used SELinux Mode Changer as that will interfere with some root apps.
2) You cannot install TWRP, CWM, or any other normal recovery. If you look in the development section you'll find Safestrap, which is an alternative for our locked bootloader. You'll be limited to only Touchwiz ROMs and the two mostly functioning Google Edition ROMs in the dev section.

Not to be rude, when you ask these kind of questions, you need to read more by searching.
1- confection to ? has nothing to do with root whatsoever. Troubleshooting that would be great start. By insuring drivers.
2-no root without pc. Odin is safest bet instead of trying other apps or methods outside xda. Not taking the warranty in mind here.
3-you can't use stock recovery for anything that is called useful. No you can't flash roms with it, nor flash supersu.
4-twrp is a great recovery that you need and should use. It's easy and does what it should.
You can't root without ?.

You could use an app in play store to flash twrp but again you need root. Root requires ? as far as I know.
What ? du you have? Only one USB port? Ask a friend or family to borrow their ?. Takes only 10 min.
Pc isn't a problem. My note can connect to pc. I see malfunction note when I connect to pc. Windows don't recognise this phone. I'm sure it isn't drivers problem because every other phone is OK with my pc.
Thanks for help.
You can try root your note 3 using the towel root on this link https://towelroot.com/ press the λ button can install it the you can use the app to gain root access it work for me when I was on kit kat it's completely safe try it .It might work on lollipop too I don't know

geia!towel already tried, without success!now with kingroot my phone is rooted!
thanks everybody!
now i think i can use flashify to add custom recovery?

Root question.

I unlocked my bootloader and tried using my pc to root but something is wrong with drivers or adb or something and at this point im giving up on that. So my question is could i just use kingroot then install flashify then install twrp then install magisk? Or am i crazy and this is impossible?
Thanks for your time.
I, and everyone else on this forum, will not recommend using Kingroot.
You're better off trying to fix your current problem. As a matter of fact, somebody said OnePlus provided fastboot drivers with the phone. They should be somewhere on the driver partition which pop-up when your phone is plugged into the PC.

I second this
I don't think King Root works on this phone but even if it does I would stay away from it. King Root is as close to malware as any program I have ever seen people willingly install. There's a step by step guide for rooting and flashing on the OP5. The OP of that thread is really good about answering questions when people run into problems. If you post what is going wrong for you in that thread I'm sure he will be able to help you.

SM-G950F Root

Ok, I have rooted Galaxy S4s and 5s, usually the T-Mobile versions. I just ordered a used SM-G950F off ebay. It did not say if it was Nougat or Oreo.
Been searching, and have not found my answer, so I hope someone might be able to send me a link or advise me.
Want a rooted S8. Stock rom would be ok, but I would prefer custom down the road.
This is how I have been rooting the S4s and 5s
Put SuperSU zip on phone.
Then flash TWRP from Oden and not let it reboot. Do a battery pull, and then start the phone to recovery, then flash the SuperSU from TWRP.
Can I do this with the S8 ? (SM-G950F)
Thanks!
Come on you gurus, just take 1 minute and help me out ..... ffs
or maybe I posted the question in the wrong place, or your bored with the question.
I was a mod on another type of forum, I posted a sticky ... you dumb asses

But seriously, I heard about a bootloader, (version 2?) that if I try to flash twrp might brick my phone. Have not actually pulled the trigger on buying a SM-G950F yet, but want to know if I can attain root on this device if its on android V8.0
I did try searching, but it just sits there with no results no matter what I put in the field. Might be because I am in Alaska and my internet SUCKS!
I am at the point I would pay someone like $20 via paypal if they know what they are doing and they want to give me Tech Support

The process I've followed is as follows.
Now please take into account that I flash twrp and part of that process is that data partition needs to be formatted, so make sure anything that's needed back it up.
Have a look at some roms, download one to your memory card.
Flash twrp via Odin, you will need to wipe data in twrp and return to twrp.
Flash the Rom in twrp as normal.
Now if you want just root, flashing cf-autoroot via Odin is the of other choice, flashing magisk or supersu will involve twrp so like I said earlier you'll end up wiping data.
Hope this helps in some sort of way
Thanks! I have been searching for hours in my free time to see if I can do this. I just read in a few threads that if the phone is on Oreo it would have a locked bootloader. I went thru that helping my buddy root his ATT 337 S4. Almost bricked his phone.
I will be starting with a new phone, dont care about tripping knox. Just want root so I can use titanium backup to freeze/uninstall any of the bloat. I would get a costom rom after root eventually.
I will get a SH-G950F ordered. I just didnt want to get the phone and not be able to root. Almost ordered The SH-G950U and its got snapdragon, and I read thats not the best version if I have a choice.
I love my rooted S4 but its kind a turtle so need to move forward.
Thanks So much for your help sofir786 !!!!!
