Double Tap FPR to sleep? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to use the FPR to double tap to sleep?
I am aware of all the kernel wake and sleep options for this device and the implementations ROM's have put in place but, it would be nifty to sleep the device with the FPR.

Ah glad to see this suggested as well, I've been wondering if this would be possible as well!

Very easy way to stop battery draining on TF101

Hi guys,
Please be patient with me, if this method is already well known, but as I neither found it here nor at one of my preferred german forums, I'll post it:
Since I updated from Honeycomb to ICS I have been extremely disappointed about the battery drain. My transformer never got to deep sleep, etc. YES, I KNOW there are several threads about this, talking about cpuspy, autoflightmode and so on, BUT for sure in my case and also for many many others the deep sleep problem hasn't to do anything with wlan...
So I tried several custom roms (actually I'm running Revolver 4) because I knew from the past, when Honeycomb itself has had this annoying problem, Revolver did it for me.
Well, Revolver 4 didn't...
So I did the following, please read carefully and don't only check IF this value is set at your devices and discard:
Go to developer settings (I'm german, may be my description doesn't match exactly) . There should be a point "display always on" or equal. The checkmark is NOT checked, when first installed stock or Revolver BUT for some reason I don't know, the transformer doesn't recognizy it's empty state. This is why it never sleeps and always wakes on mouse movement, etc. So you have to do the following easy steps: Check the checkmark (in words: ENABLE display always on) and directly after that (no need to switch to homescreen first) DISABLE it again.
This should solve the annoying problem with deep sleep and battery drain.
You can test it by turning off your display, wait several seconds, maybe up to a minute, and try keypress or mouse movement. You may NOT have the cable plugged in, it only works if on battery usage. The trasformer now should not wake up and after refreshing cpuspy stats you should see some seconds more deep sleep.
I hope this has helped someone as I for myself spent hours with autoflightmode and so on until I found out this simple and a bit strange trick.

This explains why I never had this problem but other people say they did. The first thing I did after I upgraded was go into the settings and played around with all these settings to make sure everything was what I wanted. So, without knowing it, I solved a problem before it even became a problem.
Good job in noticing this!

I discovered this by pure chance. After I noticed it I installed several times fresh stock, fresh Revolver, fresh Revolution HD. In all cases it has been the thing with the display setting. So I thought it to be worth to tell you here.
I didn't inform ASUS or some of the great developers of custom roms here, because I also can't believe it to be that easy. I know from OLD programming languages, that you have to declare a boolean in a function to be true or false state, otherwise it will be ignored, but I hardly believe Java / Android would have such old problems. So I just hope my trick will work until someone verifies this to be the original problem or will supply us with a better workaround.

I think he's talking about this,
1/Settings
2/Developer Options
3/Stay Awake option
4/If this option is unticked then tick it
5/Now untick the option immediately
6/Return Home
7/Test it.
Anyway this worked for me. Thanks OP
This doesn't seem to have worked on mine. I might try flashing a different rom.
Also doesn't seem to work for me.
Tried the OP's suggestion, then I had my tablet turned off. Before turning off the tab battery was at about 83% and the keyboard battery was at about 30%.
Boot up tablet and now tablet battery is at 94% and keyboard battery is at 3%.
Seems the tablet was being charged while it was off. This has never happened before. Running ARHD Rom.

Hey folks,
I'm sorry if it doesn't work for all, but when talking about "turning off" and "rebooting" it would be interesting to know what exactly you mean.
Do you really turn off and reboot the next day? I for myself use to short press power button, this isn't really "turning off" the tablet. It sets the tablet in deep sleep mode after about 30 seconds (so you could easily resume your work by just a finger stroke during the first seconds when the screen gets dark, but if you don't do so, it will fall asleep).
The keydock of course loads the tablet while "turned off" (same as while awake) if its capacity is more than 3%, that's absolutely normal behaviour, so if someone didn't see this before it is CAUSED by the bug: Of course if there is just 216mhz mode with higher power consumption over night than capacity, it won't look like something has been loaded at all.
I then short press the power button (i. e. the next morning) again and the tablet wakes up.
So I really wonder why someone (apart from those who have the draining bug) should really restart the tablet.
BTW: Yes, I definately mean the point "stay awake" which here in germany is described as "display will never fall asleep while loading". I think the problem is the following: This setting is visually set to "not active/disabled" while it is internally set as "true". So if one doesn't touch this after a fresh ICS installation, every time we are docked, the tablet "thinks": Okay, I get loaded (by dock), therefor I just darken the screen but don't really turn it off, and while screen is on I cannot fall into deep sleep and have to stay at 216 mhz all the time"
If then the user itself enables and disables the checkmark, it is internally set as false and everything works fine (at least for me).
Only thing I still dislike: While plugged, my tablet will stay in 216mhz mode all night long. I don't know why but this doesn't matter too much for me, as the power it gets while plugged is much more than the consumption it uses to stay at 216 mhz so my tablet is although fully loaded during some hours. As I told you in my first post, you cannot test this (neither touchpad awake nor deep sleep mode) while plugged. You need to test this while on battery usage.

Cutterfly

Dear OP
Wasn't meant to knock you in any way, it seems your method is working for many people.
When I say "turning off" I mean shutting it down completely, rather than putting it in standby.
I was under the impression that when the tablet is completely shut down no battery should be draining from the dock.....

Um, yeah, as said, deep sleep is automatic. The only reason sleep would be interrupted would be wakelocks. If you're having problems with the device waking too often (Settings->Battery will show this) you can try Better Battery Stats in the market or here on XDA.
However, why I fly, I tend to just turn **** off.

MotoACTV as a sleep tracker

I am a bit put off by the fact that motorola hasn't implemented a sleep tracker into the motoACTV. Given that they are pretty much all the rage nowadays with fitness trackers (ie. Fitbit zip and one, Jawbone UP, etc).
Im wondering if anyone has tried to use their rooted motoactv to run a sleep tracking app from the market place and how it worked for you? I just downloaded SleepBot (unless you have another recommendation) and am planning to try it tonight. However that app is meant to be ran on a phone, while plugged in and set near your pillow. It uses the phone's accelerometer to monitor your tossing and turning in bed, the phone's microphone to monitor your noises/snoring/sleeptalking and also requires the phone screen to be on during the whole time. That last part is what has me worried. I don't think that the motoactv has the ability to keep a screen lit, albeit the app dims the screen for you, for 8+hrs.
It would be nice to have software built into the MotoACTV like the jawbone UP does. Anyone have some input?
Tried sleepbot app. Didn't work. The screen size doesn't allow the whole app to display once in sleep mode tracking motion. The wake up button gets hidden and the app gets stuck in the tracking mode rendering pretty much useless. Tonight um trying sleep as android. This time I tested it during tracking and confirmed the app fits the screen or can be scrollable.
I was surprised to wake up and have 60% battery left.

The actv has a built in sleep tracker. DPRom has it enabled. The software is in all roms that contain the stock firmware, but the app may be disabled for some as it doesn't come with an icon to launch it. In those cases, you may be able to manually launch it using a file explorer or something. It is called "SleepAnalysis.apk".

That sucks. Hopefully they haven't completely abandoned it. I've used it the past 2 nights. It works well. Maybe they're planning to release a new smart watch and launch the finished product of the sleep analysis then. And then xda peeps will port it to motoactv!
A couple of issues I've run into with the current state of the sleep analysis is that you must be at least 80% charge before starting because over the course of your sleep it discharges by about 75%(this might be because of root and rom). The tracker works when screen is off unlike a lot of sleep tracking apps on the market for smartphones. Also it usually states that I'm awake for 1hr and been awaken 7-8 times during my sleep. I don't know how true that is. The graph is hard to read due to screen size as well. I'm sure there was going to be a syncing deal with it. To export to phone or pc.
A few things I want to learn is how exactly the motoactv knows when I'm in deep sleep/ light sleep, and what sets it off to say I'm awake. Also want to know what's the optimum way to wear it. With wrist strap or clip on hip.

Funny, I turned on marathon mode to save battery and tracked my sleep last night (which I only got 4 hrs). Turns out that the 3 second refresh caused me to be in "deep sleep" for all four hours which is bogus.
On the up side it finished the night with 80% battery which is a drastic savings over being on normal battery saver.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Well after a week of using the native sleep tracker, I've gotta say it isn't very good. I was hoping it'll give me me info sheet the initial 7 nights. But nothing. You can't view previous cycles, only the overall score. But this was to be expected because it's largely unfinished. It's a shame though. And the android Market is lacking beyond sleep as andros or sleep bot.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Are they on the market for another android device? If so, download it to that device, titanium backup, then copy the backed up apk to your computer and sideload it to the actv via adb.

Yes they are. They work but they're heavy on the battery.
As of late, the native sleep analysis application has begun to force close every time.

It does not work very well at all, it tends to drain the battery of the motoactv during the night. The app recommends you plug your phone in during use, so it is pretty power hungry.

Are there any reliable Alarm apps that have been updated to work properly with Doze?

It seems all the major alarm apps (Gently, Timely, Xtreme, etc.) that I know do NOT work properly with Doze, and if the phone is not plugged in overnight, the alarm might not go off.

After running into the problem with Xtreme, tested a few apps... and found "I can't Wake Up! Alarm Clock" which has similar options to Xtreme and does work with Doze (per your additional question, also when not wall charger is not plugged in).

Am I crazy, or does that "can't wake up" app not let you choose a custom alarm ringtone? That's not good at all lol
So, I know it's part of the point of the app, but... Is there any way to completely disable the whole sleep tracking and sleep cycle stuff in Sleep As Android? I don't really have any use for it, and from what I understand, not only does it not work properly with Doze unless you use the workaround (which drains even MORE battery), but it also doesn't work on Tempurpedic mattresses. So it's completely useless to me.

Just tested Gentle Alarm, set it for 5 mins into the future, left on a night stand without external power, worked as advertised. I do have the checkbox telling it to ignore the phone state set. It is possible that I did not let the phone site long enough to trigger doze.will test it tonight.

always on display?

Does anybody know of a method or app to add always on display? I tried an app from the app store and it worked well but killed my battery. Probably because it disabled doze and kept the phone awake... Anybody have any input on this?
That function doesn't work exactly perfectly on the Axon but I am using ACdisplay with some success. The always on thing isn't going to be exactly what you'd see on a Motorola device though. If you want the wave to wake feature as good as it gets, try ambient display through xposed but it's still iffy and ACdisplay has much better notification layouts imo.
This is one of the things that really bugged me about this phone at first, especially with the tiny, barely visible LED notification light. Not good synergy.

I tried that one actually. I liked the idea but the power consumption was pretty crazy. Had to uninstall. Maybe others will have better luck.
What you need is a way to allow the CPU to go into deep sleep without turning the display off. I believe this is hardware dependant, though.
All recent moto phone have their own low-power CPUs specifically for ambient display and voice commands without requiring the CPU to wake.
Oneplus devices support gestures while the device is in deep sleep, but this is a hardware feature built into the panel, which is why these gestures are not customizable.
The problem with both of these is that they're hardware-specific, so unless ZTE has made provisions for always on displays, active display, off screen gestures, etc, theres going to be a pretty significant hit to battery when using apps that do these things.

Sweet. I doubt the always on app uses whatever process the s7/g5 use to do this, is this something kernel related?
Thanks for the input everybody. If the Snapdragon 820 can support low power use like some of you suggested we may see this feature in cyanogenmod? (hopefully ZTE actually helps...) otherwise custom roms built on ZTE's base maybe. Although I doubt ZTE will add the feature to the rom in future updates.

I've seen this app before. Might try it out.
Yes, glance plus

It's awesome, plus your phone thinks it's on the lock screen. So you can shake whenever glance is active to turn on your flashlight.
Double tap to wake works WAY better.
Is also compatible with fingerprint unlock.
I use this on my Axon, haven't noticed any battery drain

I can't figure out how to get the fingerprint working!
When it's on, you can't unlock with fingerprint, you have to wait until the screen is fully black

That's strange! I haven't had that issue.. It just immediately unlocks for me.
I would try uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling? + maybe another reboot? (I'm no tech expert.. But I'll reboot a phone till magic happens lol)

That's strange.. As I'm able to do exactly that.. Sorry man.
I am using this app. The clock goes away after showing for a few seconds. It seems to happen intermittently.
