Just wondering, my phone detects that Wi-Fi is on even though it's not. Is that normal? If not, is there a way to fix it?

What do you have your location mode set to? I believe in "high accuracy" the WiFi, even if off, will still try to tell your phone where you are

I've just done a ROM upgrade to 1.66.707.1, and now my Wifi connection kees enabling itself.
I'm sure that I missed something to make it not connect, but what?
Anyone here who might have a clue what it could be?
Thank you.
Hmm that sounds like something I have seen before. I had a similar issue when I had the hd2 12 button action screen installed. Do you have that?

No.. I've not installed that.
I'm also not using Stocks, Weather, Internet time sync and so on, and I thing that if I would, the phone would use the gprs option.
Tomorrow, I'll re check all applications that I'm running to see if I've missed a setting.
Im just curious.
When you disable/enable wifi do you use the comm.manager or another program???

Switch the phone into airplane mode (in the comm manager) and the startup wizard should popup. Just run through that process.

Maybe put it in airplane mode and restart it. It sounds like the issue that some others have had after installing 1.66. It runs the setup wizard in the background, and that automatically starts wifi. My biggest concern if this is the case is that your phone isn't set up to work on the network yet.
Try it anyway and see how you get on.

Okay.. I've put it in "Airplane mode", turned off and back on the phone.
Still not setup wizard.
Did the same thing again and soft reset. Still no setup wizard.
I'm going to give it some more runs, but if no luck I will install an other ROM (custom one), to see if my problem is gone.
I'll report back if I know more.
Thank you for your input.
re: isn't set up to work on the network yet
It is.. All my network connections are working fine.
I think is an issue of Wifi Toggle.
I had the same issue and stopped using it.

I will uninstall Wifi Toggle, and see if this fixed the problem.
If so.. To bad.. I really love Wifi toggle.
i dont have the wifi toggle other than the slider under settings?
and i also have this problem
it only happens when i turn the phone on , once i have turned it off it stays off until the next time i turn it off then on.
So I've noticed this problem with my SGS3. When I drive into work, I turn off the wifi radio (or whatever the term is) before heading out. As I am driving down the road, the status bar will suddenly show the wifi network discovered icon, so I go into settings and see that Wifi has been enabled again. WTF.
Anyone else having this issue? I don't want my phone constantly scanning for wifi access points and turning on my wifi radio when I have specifically disabled it. Is this a known issue?

Yes, and I should have put that in the thread title. Thanks.
I actually turn that option off but it seems that the battery wouldn't last me as long when it was on.
DUDE I've been wondering the same thing.
i keep thinking maybe its me hitting it by mistake but its def turning itself on
I have just received my note 3. When i checked my battery stats, I noticed that the gps is always awake although I had disabled every single location access. Here is the screenshot. Any ideas?

You have to disable one more thing.
Go to: "Settings->Connections->Wi-Fi" and press the Menu button. Click on "Advanced" tab.
There you will find something like "Let/Allow/Permit always to scan" or sth. My phone is not English so i don't know what there originally writes in English but it is something like "Let/Allow/Permit always to scan".
If you UNCHECK this option, your wifi won't be awake all the time, anymore.

Thank you for your help, that option is already unchecked. In fact, the issue is not about wifi. The GPS is awake because of some reason. I could not find why.
Battery drain due to GPS?
I could not find anything about the gps online. Does anyone have any ideas? Why would be the GPS awake all the time although the location services are completely off.
i am not an expert but can it be a false reading? because also it seems your screen is on while your phone is not awake? as i said i am not an expert but that is a condition i never saw on my note 1.
It is a bug with battery stats from my own experience ...The gps is not on but it shows it as on in the battery stats.
Try rebooting the phone. The gps bar will probably stop increasing until you turn it on again.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
problem solved?
Apparently, the reason was "Remote Control". When I turned that off, the gps was finally deactivated. The battery life seems to be better now.

That would make sense as I believe remote control is a security app.
When launched you can track your phones GPS co-ordinates and it sends them to you remotely.
Hence why the GPS would always need to be on?
I think you can still locate the phone via Google. I left the google location service on and the GPS battery drain is not back again. I am very relieved now

Hi, I have the same issue. Can you explain what you did? Is it an option in settings or an app?
Sorry for being late

I have deactivated remote control from the security preferences in the settings menu.
So this so-called "Smart" Wi-Fi is getting to be a pain.
It pops up when I am in car mode, and other times when I have specifically have TURNED OFF Wi-Fi.
Why on earth would a Wi-Fi-related app even run when I have done that?
Any way to get rid of it or is that the only way it manages Wi-Fi?

Just turn it off, settings, then more, then applications manager, then find it and turn it off.

I cant open your link but i would reccomend a clean flash/factory reset:fingers-crossed:
Go to location settings, advanced/ scanning settings and turn off WiFi scanning
