Hi there,
Like many others I have a 4K TV that resets/flickers occasionally when I turn it on/connect it to the Shield. This issue only happens some percentage of the time, so the fix for me is to just unplug HDMI and plug it back in repeatedly until the TV stops resetting.
I'm able to detect when the TV is in this bad reset/flicker state because logcat helpfully tells me 'SecureHdcp_PollFailure', but I can't find a way to reset the display without walking over to it and physically reconnecting HDMI.
Anybody know of a way to essentially reset the display, or simulate unplugging and plugging in of the device programatically or via the terminal? (My device is unlocked/rooted)

I have a strange issue with my TF101, that I've just noticed. When using the HDMI output, if I put it to sleep and then I try to press the power button again to wake it up, it resets, as if doing a power cycle. If I'm using the HDMI output, I put it to sleep, I disconnect the HDMI cable and then I am waking it up, it works just fine (no reset). Is anyone else having the same issue? I'm wondering if mine has a hardware fault, and then I could have it replaced (I'm also experiencing some light bleeding).
I'm running the latest official ROM (3.1), stock, no root. I've confirmed the issue only when using the tablet itself, but I would assume the same problem exists when docked.
I did some more testing and the issue doesn't seem to be consistent. Instead of connecting the tablet via the sound system (Onkyo HTX-22HDX) I tried connecting it directly to the monitor (HP LP2475w) and that worked just fine (a bit of delay when turning the tablet screen, but nothing major). I then tried connecting it again via the sound system, and this time it worked to get the tablet out of sleep mode. So at this point I'm unable to reproduce the issue, although I didn't change anything.
Anyone else experienced the issue with the reboot? If so, how ofter and with which setup?
After using the Q, I typically just turn off the television or switch to another HDMI input. I have noticed that if I let it sit for a while, like a day or more, it loses connection to my wireless and also my television no longer sees it as a valid input source so I cannot switch to it. The only way I have been able to get it working again is to reboot the Q. Anyone else having this indefnite sleep problem? In some cases the lights on the Q turns off and in some cases the lights are still there but same outcome with no response.
Do you have one of the routers that Google has stated specifically have issues? I had a Netgear router that was on the list. I replaced it with a new Asus AC router and haven't lost connection in over a week. The Asus router is the best one I have ever owned.

I do lose wireless connection to it from my phone/tablet, however it is the fact that it is unable to register itself as a valid video device to the television is what is more concerning. When I toggle through my television's input sources, it doesn't show up anymore until I power cycle the device. I try to leave it on constantly, maybe no one else has been doing that? I'm using all the supplied cables that came with it including the hdmi, so I don't believe it to be faulty cabling or anything. Maybe I just have a faulty device if no one else is having the same issue.

Today I had the same exact issue. There was no HMDI output at all. I tried plug out and in the HDMI cable and power it down and up and still nothing. At the end I had to do a factory reset wait for some minutes and now it is working again. I also leave mine plugged all the time and I just change to another source to watch or play some games. After the factory reset I noticed that the device lights turn off when it goes idle before they didn't, they used to be on all the time. I wonder what is going on and there isn't a lot of documentation about this gadget.

I guess it is the price we pay for early users. I was just checking if this behavior was suppose to be "normal". It is weird though that you had to do a factory reset to get it to work again. For me, I just unplug the power and plug it back in and it works again. But it is a bit of a nuisance to have to power off and power on before each use after it has gone into its "idle" mode. I have yet to find a way to turn it on via its app or BT or any other comms. I'm just glad it's not only me

I'm in according with your thesys
Hello,
I've potentially bricked my Shield TV and want to see if I can salvage it from it's current state.
What have I done to the device
I unlocked the bootloader
I opened the device and took out the HDD
I replace it with an SSD (which data i cloned from the HDD)
After that the Shield TV wouldn't boot up. I connected the old HDD to no avail. The HDD was working fine before.
I know can't get the device to boot up in fastboot. It still turns on, as indicated by the green led.
What have I tried
Cold booted the device (turn it off and seperate it from power for 15 - 20 minutes)
Used the controller (Pressing A+B) after inserting the power cable to get into fastboot. Controller rumbles. Nothing happens afterwards.
Hold the "power button" on the device for 5 - 6 sec to get into fastboot. Doesn't work, just turns the device off.
Connected the Shield TV to my PC and then try to enter fastboot. Device is detected by Windows as "Unknown usb device". "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
I'm pretty stuck at this point. Is there any know way to revive my device?
Or is it simply bricked beyond repair?
Best regards
Same thing happened to me. Nvidia support emailed this procedure. Worked for some, not for others.
-> Unplug all the cables and keep the device off for good 2-3 minutes.
-> Plug the Power cable, controller through USB (Wired) and Ethernet cable to the ATV. Do not connect HDMI cable.
-> The device will power on. Keep it idle for about 5 minutes and keep tapping A button on the controller. Continue tapping for about a few seconds.
-> Now leave the device is this state without the HDMI cable for good 15 to 20 minutes and plug the HDMI cable.
-> See if the ATV displays any output
Hi @Makenshi2k have you managed to fix it? I have the same situation
@qqhorus tried your solution but it didn't work for me

Unfortunately no. The device is bricked.
I haven't found any way to restore it.
I recently went to use my Nvidia Shield Pro (500gb) and the unit powers on and stays on but there is no video or image displaying. I've tried it on my 4K TV, PC monitor and a 720P monitor, different cables, and still nothing. I've gone through the different procedures to reset and get into fastboot and nothing has worked. When I connect it to my PC or laptop to try and get into fastboot, I am not sure if it is being recognized as I don't see anything populating on the PCs to show that it is connected. Are there other procedures to hard reset? Is there somewhere I can send it for repairs? Thanks!
same problem : ( any solution ?
Same problem, just happened this week. System was working fine, then one day turned on, the system lite is sold green. No picture on the screen. Unable to access safemode or fast boot.
Last update installed a was a few days ago before the issue.
I have no mods or unlock. My systems is 100% stock Shield TV Pro 500gb
Happened to me last night. Black screen on my 4K TV, but it works fine on my other 1080p TV. Nvidia customer support claims there's on known issue, but it's coming up on their forums as well...guessing it's a software thing?
Had the same problem but no video also on a 1080p TV I contacted customer support and got a RMA done on my unit.
Hmm... interesting, my dads is doing the exact same thing... Anyone find a solution yet? I get no video and solid green light. I have tried everything I could find online to get into fastboot or whatever but no luck.
My 2015 Shield Pro died a few days after the 7.2.2 release. Not saying that was the problem, just that was the timeframe.
I can turn the unit on by unplugging the power brick, then reattaching power. Green light turns on but doesn't drop to the lowest brightness after a bit as previously configured. Has no HDMI output and can't hear the fan nor the drive spin up, doesn't respond to pings.
What I can do though is turn off the Shield by holding down the power button for six seconds. Remote and Controller, no effect.
Out of warranty and I haz a sad.
Same problem powers on and off, green light lit but no display, when I hook up to pc it shows apx
Hello,
i got the same problem, powers on and off, green light lit but no display, when I hook up to pc it shows apx !
I searched a lot and did not find a solution. It must be a software problem.
I hope that more people with the same problem comment on this thread !
in my case it is the ribbon cable (the HDD is not powering up)
Sadly I haven't found a way to buy this POS https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=537879306182
ribbon cable is just not good enough to provide power to a hdd over time. swap that drive out for low power ssd
I have a 2017 shield tv with this problem. Plugged in the green light comes on then nothing after that, no change at all on screen or to the light. I have several Shields and swapped things around, working cords, power supplies, working game controller, working USB keyboard etc. No fast boot and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in to it.
Folks,
kids got a T580 tablet which, by this morning, all of a sudden didn't wake up anymore. They've been playing games, apparently the device was at 21% battery. Now I can't enable display anymore. Restarting by holding POWER and one of the Volume buttons pressed doesn't work either. Connecting the device to a Linux laptop via USB however shows me a Samsung MTP device connected. Unfortunately rebooting via adb doesn't work, adb claims the device is unauthorized and (with the display off) I also can't change anything about that. Device is not rooted, running latest OTA update firmware. I'm running out of ideas... any suggestions on how to eventually revive the device? Known behaviour?
Thanks in advance,
Kristian
Known? not to me, but I'm new to the A.
Could it just be dead battery? If wall charger doesn't charge it, try usb port linux box, it's a slow charge that way, very slow, but it does work.
Let us know updates, unusual problem...

Thanks for your feedback, greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, battery seems out here. More insights: The device has WiFi on and actually also an IP address assigned. Connecting it to the laptop, I see an MTP and a modem device, and the device also shows up in adb devices. Even hard reboot using POWER +VOL-DOWN apparently seems to work, by then (still connected to the laptop) the MTP and modem device will disappear for a few moments to finally reconnect. Just all the time the device stays dark, I can't even do anything with it using adb because I can't get it authorized without a display connected.
Really strange. I have never so far seen something like that. Any more insights welcome. Especially, is there a way to enable something such as screen mirroring (I have a chromecast around) without physical access to the device? It's pretty difficult to do anything right now without being able to interact with that thing...

Pretty much seems like a screen failure. If it's kids I'd say likely been knocked and probably needs the screen connector/s reseating.
Try to open back cover it's very easy, after that disconnecte all of flix cables (lcd ,battery camera,...etc) and connect them again finally press power button it will work 100% .i did it many times

I will kind of second this. The devices have a tendency to freeze or what we call deep cycle discharge. And many times a simple battery disconnect solves these issues.
We have this issue on the s8 s8+ and pretty much any device it can but more of a pain on a non removable battery
A ittle late and maybe too simple, but my wife's did this and the brightness had somehow gotten turned completely down, to the point of not seeing anything. I fixed it by randomly swiping left to right until I hit the bar.
